Secondhand embarrassment while watching a movie, that takes place where you live, because of how terrible the accents or whatever are?
I'm not trying to be judgmental or anything, but I was once watching a movie (I can't even remember what it was called) that took place in Oklahoma, and like most of the actors were from like New York, and around there, and they put on the most OVER the TOP southern drawlll.
I've lived in a few different regions of Oklahoma, like a good chunk of my life, I lived in the southern part of Oklahoma, like 30 minutes away from the Texas border, and no one even sounds like that there.
I suppose someone from Oklahoma might sound like that from the perspective of someone from up north, because I've had people from the north make fun of the way I say eight, wash, etc...but people do not sound like they did in that movie.

movies supposedly placed in Texas but produced by hollywood are always bad. they legitimately think that texas is one big desert. nevermind that's 4/5th of our state is green praries, hills, and forests. i watched a tv series about our supposed war for independence from mexico that depicted austin as scrubby desert. b**** that's like the greenest part of the hill country.
hollywood sucks
sincerely, a texan

I mean, when I went to Arizona and Mexico, I saw NOTHING but deserts there, however, I know that there's cities there as well. I think I heard once, that the reason Phoenix gets so hot, is because of the amount of concrete there or something? I don't even know. I can't even imagine Texas being one large desert.

Concrete has something to with it probably, since it reflects a lot of heat rather than absorb it. Idk how much though.

Movies that depict Kansas as a southern state. Like hello? have you been here? People talk with more northern accents, not southern at all, even out in the more rural areas. Also kansas may be flat but seeing it in movies where everything is just grass or wheat with no other vegetation is wrong. It's not like we don't have trees or something as well as a huge variety of shrubs and flowers.

I've actually never been to Kansas, but whenever I see a car with a Kansas license plate, I always say, "Well, they're not in Kansas anymore." (referring to The Wizard of Oz) Which would probably be infuriating to someone from Kansas lol

People always give Minnesotans the most exaggerated accents in movies and shows for some reason. I’ve traveled and lived in multiple parts of this state and to this day and I’ve only met one or two people who actually have a Minnesotan accent, and even then it was very slight.

Kentucky tends to get portrayed like we're all hillbillies straight out of the Hatfields vs. the McCoys. I live in a city, and it's really no different than cities in other parts of the country. My husband was born and raised here and has no southern accent, but for whatever reason, over time as I've lived here my southern accent has gotten REALLY bad (I irritate myself it's so strong sometimes).

Yum! Brands headquarters is less than a mile from my work, so yeah, guests sometimes ask about it, and sometimes people working there stay at the hotel...
I've been to the first ever KFC (his restaurant before it was KFC) in Corbin, it has a museum attached.
People that stay from out of town tend to get more excited that we have White Castle for some reason.

@ all the people saying their state doesn't have an accent:
everyone has an accent. it's much more likely that you're used to it in some way and thus don't notice it, because it sounds normal to you. Especially if they're subtle.

Or some that are true? I get asked if I own a horse a lot. I think there's definitely a stereotype that we're all hick ranchers, even though Texas has two of the largest cities in the U.S... we do hate californians. that much is very true.

I guess the best thing about White Castle is that they're open all night. The sliders themselves are meh, but that may be because they come covered in onions and I don't eat onions, and they only do a so-so job of scraping them off. The chicken rings are pretty good though.

Why don't you guys like people from California? Not the specific individual so much as the general population. They keep moving here in droves because we have a much better economy, cost of living, budding tech industry, etc. But then they try to implement the same policies that ruined California so much that they left in the first place and now are trying to ruin Texas in the process. gentrifying. also their driving SUCKS we don't mind californians who move and appreciate our state for what it is. hell i'm trying to marry one. actually, that's a good example--when i first told my mom i was dating a boy from my college, legit her FIRST question was "he's not from california is he?" (she's chill with him lol).

VIXENCLAWXD something I find interesting about Canada, is that it seems like some write in American English and some write in British English. Like, I talked this Canadian girl, and she spelled things like colour, neighbour, etc However, my Canadian friend spells things like color, neighbor, etc

Being from Illinois and not living in Chicago seeing that one city be treated like it's the only inhabited area in the state. It's a bit irritating to just be dismissed because you live outside of Chicago I'm sorry, I bet people from Springfield feel REALLY irritated. Also, people from New York who live in Albany, and people from Australia who live in Sydney and not Canberra.
