Hey everyone! I’m bored, so I decided to make this thread where everyone can ask me any questions they want and I will answer them (as long as I don’t think they’re too personal).
I’ll just tell a few things about myself to hopefully inspire some questions if people can’t think of any: - I am a wildlife rehabilitator - My hobbies (that I sadly don’t have much time for) include birding, drawing/coloring, reading, watching TV, and playing video games - I have/have had many pets - I am going to be an ornithologist - I’m really interested in genetics

I have a few, I'm sorry if you've ever told me the answers to these before, I don't really have the best memory, anyway.
1. Do you have any pet birds?
2. When it comes to genetics, is there anything unique about bird genetics, like there is with cat genetics, like for instance, if a mother cat carries the black color gene, and the father carries the red color gene, the sons will all have the black color gene, and the daughters will all be tortoiseshells? (inheriting the black and the red color genes from each parent)
3. What is your favorite TV show?

(inheriting the black and the red color genes from each parent) 3. What is your favorite TV show? I don’t think I’ve told you these things before! I have a pretty bad conversational memory though, I forget what I’ve told people all the time (which annoys my friends a lot in real life). 1. Yes, two Zebra Finches, Sydney (female) and Melbourne (male). I actually got them to breed them just for basically a small genetics experiment, but all of their eight chicks they’ve had so far have died, so that hasn’t worked out so well. I think it may have been because they were young and inexperienced parents, so I’m probably going to let them try again later this spring/summer. 2. Yeah, it depends on the bird species though. Since there is little individual variation in most wild bird species, little research has been done on their color genetics (genetics studies with wild birds primarily focus on how genetically distinct certain species/subspecies are from each other and other phylogeny-related things). My favorite color mutation in wild birds are albinos/leucistic birds (I’ve seen five in my life, an all white either albino or leucistic Red-tailed Hawk, a leucistic female Northern Cardinal, a leucistic American Robin, and two leucistic House Sparrows which I actually raised). Domestic birds on the other hand have more interesting genetics, since they have a bunch of different color varieties in many cases. The example you gave with cats is a sex-linked gene (red/black color is on the X chromosome in cats), and there are genes like this in birds. However, in birds the chromosomes are Z and W instead of X and Y, and female birds are ZW (instead of XX for mammals) and male birds are ZZ (instead of XY) so it’s basically backwards of how it works in cats with the sex-linked traits. The Fawn and Chestnut-flanked White are examples of this in Zebra Finches (I know their genetics the best because of my pets). 3. The First 48, it’s a show about homicide detectives trying to solve murders. I like its format better than any other similar shows I’ve watched, plus it’s currently on season 21 and there are tons of older ones that I haven’t seen for me to watch. I like true crime, if I wasn’t going to be an ornithologist I’d probably want to go into law enforcement. I’m a rule-follower, and I feel like I’d enjoy the challenge of trying to solve crimes. I’m perfectly happy with ornithology though, and I wouldn’t pick law enforcement over it, but I still like watching shows about it on TV.

IvyfalconI love the Australian themed names, I'm sorry that none of their chicks made it, but it's cool that you actually managed to get them to even have babies. That's really interesting, that the male and female chromosomes are kind of flipped from mammals. That shows sounds awesome, I love crime shows, I think my favorite true crime show to watch is Forensic Files

Zebra Finches are one of the easiest birds to breed in captivity, which is one reason I picked them. I think I’ve seen Forensic Files once or twice but I forgot what channel it was on in my TV and I haven’t seen it since.

I used to have two parakeets as well, but they didn’t live for very long for some reason.

what's your social security number?

what's your social security number? If you could learn to do one thing perfectly, what would it be? Ooh, hard question, but very interesting! I think I’d probably go with being able to splint small animals’ (mainly birds) limbs perfectly. I’m sure this seems like a very strange answer, but as a wildlife rehabber this would be SO SO helpful!! I’m still trying to improve upon my skills (and this is my ninth year to do this), and I usually end up doubting myself and feeling like I’ve accidentally made the situation worse. My reasoning: The first thing I thought was being able to always get bird identifications correct first try, but then I thought that it would making birding less enjoyable since there would be no challenge whatsoever (even if it would mean I wouldn’t embarrass myself by making stupid identification calls and I wouldn't have to deal with the frustration of occasionally seeing a bird I can’t identify for some reason or another). Then I thought about maybe being able to play Solitaire or solve a Rubik’s Cube perfectly every time, but then I realized that the skill would make that so boring for me and it would basically be just a cool party trick to impress people with that had no practical usage. Then I thought maybe being able to win at a multiplayer game all the time, like I don’t know, poker or something, which I guess could be useful because I could win a bunch of money with that skill but to be honest I’ve got to pick the selfless thing for animals.

Thats an interesting one to say the least. I personally would want fluency with every blade type so I can just swordfight people. That'd be fun.
