One of my favorite science-related YouTube channels just uploaded this video, has plenty of fact-checked information and reliable sources if anybody needs info.

That's strange, because diapers were being hoarded over here. My SIL was not happy.
Also today is my anniversary and i can't celebrate it with my man. Corona is making this personal now

My state has now forbidden gatherings of over 10 people. If you violate the law, you can be put in jail or pay a fine. I now know how the Hogwarts students felt when Umbridge was in charge. "If you gather with over 10 people we'll put you in jail with way more than 10 people"
.... Yeah that makes sense.

Send help lol I haven't been sticking to my diet, I actually am just snacking on chocolate bark and cheez its as we speak BUT I have been filling in some of my gap-hours of boredom with a workout routine. Doing some stretches and sit ups, lifting some handweights, etc. At the very least it's something to do and keep active so you're not being a bum the whole time and it's all stuff to do at home so you aren't a hazard to anyone else.

Brindlebriar We go to the same uni but he went home halfway across the country for spring break and now we're stuck apart for a month again. we just did this over christmas dammit. if you're having issues eating out of boredom, try stretching out your meals ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ like a little bit frequently rather than a lot infrequently also i second stretching! it doesn't require much effort or energy so it makes it more attainable for a lot of people

Yeah, and like, a few of our part-timers are getting slashed right down to one four hour shift a week, so like I said, I'm not complaining, it just... is a lot to adjust to. Time management will be more crucial than ever, and I'll have to deal with more people than I'm used to.

Watching all these young people partying in Florida and not giving a shit about coronavirus is so ridiculous. Exactly. It's like they're ignoring the fact they can get it too.

So uh... has anyone here heard about how Trump tried to buy the company that's currently working on a covid vaccine and wants to keep it to America and America alone? Here in Germany we've heard/read about it for nearly a week and I'm wondering if it's even talked about in America. It's pretty effed up, after all.
As for people hoarding stuff like toilet paper: In some stores here there's a limit on how much you can buy of each product so people can't hoard all of it. Not in all stores, though.

That wouldn't even make it go away in America because people from other countries would still be able to bring it back if they didn't get the vaccine. Smh.

Doesn't really make much sense, right? It's a dumb move for so many reasons. Still, it's a little horrifying. We're all in the middle of a global pandemic. And this disgusting piece of shit tried to buy the vaccine under development for the US. Exclusively. There's low and then there's this. Still, did he seriously expect this to work? As you said, it's absurd.
But some sources claim that this apparently never happened. So I'm currently doing some more research about this. It's a mess, some sources claim it's all a lie, other's say it's true. On one hand it's been confirmed by multiple sources, including the German government, but then there are many sources that say otherwise, including CureVac staff. The source I got this whole 'Trump tried to monopolise vaccines' us usually very reliable but I'm not gonna ignore the fact that CureCav themself have denied those claims. So if this really is fake I'm sorry I brought it up. As I said the source I read this from is normally a reliable one.

Can I request we not get into political comments like which people in whichever governments may or may not be horrible people?
We all have different opinions here and I don't want this thread to get derailed.

Right. Sorry, Skypaw13. I'll keep it in mind for next time.
So any news on the situation in your countries? Many stores closed yesterday, restaurants already closed on tuesday. While no one here has to stay at home (aside from infected people and those who return home from a high-risk area), people are advised to do so anyway and only go outside if it's for groceries and stuff like that. I kinda feel bad for the children around here, playgrounds are closed off for now. Sure, they can play inside and it's for the best but it really sucks for those who used to spend nearly all day playing outside. Still, there are some idiots. Teenagers and young adults, meeting to hang out and party even though it's forbidden.

And this means I won't see most of my friends again until August

It's believed that more people might be asymptomatic than at first thought. Which is in part good, because that means the rate of serious cases decrease, but also in part bad because that means a lot of people spread it without ever knowing they have it. Based on data from China and South Korea, it looks like the asymptomatic rate of people who tested positive is between 30-50%. Which means that percentage of critical case rate goes down but overall case numbers go up.
Also, I read that for symptomatic cases, the critical case rate has dropped from 20% to 5% worldwide, but idr where I read that.

Virginia just announced that they're having a shelter-in-place until mid June. My friend lost his internship as a result. Do they really expect people to put their entire lives on hold for three months??
