Finally had my first Coronavirus-Related Panic Attck(tm) because several stores ran out of pet food as well and I started freaking out about how i'd feed my cats and had acctepted I'd Starve to feed my furchildren first Dakota reminded me Hyvee might still be open, and thank god it was and they had cat food, so we got more than we needed but enough to make me not feel worried about if my cat's could eat over the course of... however long this lasts.

I text my mom today to let her know my surgery went well, and she started panicking about the store thing. Said she sent my brother today and they were completely out of Spaghetti-o's for the granddaughter while she was home from school the rest of the month. Now I told her 4 days ago when our store had run out of canned goods and rice and whatnot (the cleaning supplies ran out for her a week or so ago), but she just shrugged it off as "This is [hometown], that madness won't happen out here in the boonies" (I live in a big city 12 hours away from her). Then I told her both my and my husband's jobs may soon be at risk since KY does everything the west coast does only on a delay (like her town to my city), and she legit had the first anxiety attack I've ever seen her have, all through texting.

Look after yourself first. It wouldn't be unreasonable to expect seven or eight weeks of shutdowns and a period of residual effects on business afterwards. Unless by very small, you mean less than four employees, the business already paying federal and state unemployment tax (VA exempts the smallest of small business, the federal government doesn't). The guide I'm looking at says the exact circumstances are muddy, which makes it sound plausible for government, but that how much the business pays for unemployment benefits is variable, and the payment is made to the unemployment insurance fund through taxes to spread it out over several years. The way I understand it, if the business goes under, it will almost certainly be because of lost revenue, not because of partial unemployment benefits, because they'd be paying (at worst) something like two months' of benefits over the next four years or so. The paper work, on the other hand, looks like a devil to work with. But it's probably worth it. thankfully, a press release from my state today mentioned that businesses would not be penalized for unemployment claims during this time, and my dad gave me the numbers for his workplace today as well that illustrated it wouldn't have been more than something like a $5 increase, if at all (i'm likely the only one who qualifies at my workplace anyway) so i'll be going forward with a partial UI claim with no worries now after all! thanks for your words, even before i got these other two pieces of info, your explanation made me feel much better. luckily, i think the business will weather through this, they've weathered through tough periods before, like the recession, i was just a bit worried about the owner exercising the leverage she has over me because she reluctantly honored my request not to hire anyone else so i could work full time. normally she's understanding, but idk i get anxious about silly things.

We just recently got cases here. We are up to 21 now I believe. People are insane; taking advantage of others, fighting in the grocery store, high panic, bad mood, stressed, etc..
Grocery stores are out of supplies, my job is making very irrational decisions about serving customers, my college has no idea what they are doing despite what they say..
Situations like these really bring out the true nature in people. I believe when this is all done, the world will be a different place. Not sure if it will be good or bad.

This is a perfectly reasonable time to be anxious. I hope the place does survive, everybody is going to need some chocolate after a month or two of this.

I received an email from my school today saying that after an extended spring break, we’re going completely online for the remainder of the semester. Well, at least that means I could try getting more hours at work.

At this point, sugar-coating what is going on is not helpful.

Geez, the store shelves are so barren. No toilet paper anywhere. We managed to find a six pack at the drug store and that's it.

If anyone is looking for some good reading material for right now, the New York Times has an article where they asked some female authors what books are comforting them right now. They have a pretty good list there, so that might help anyone who is either bored or needs something to distract themselves. Also the Good News Network has a bunch of, well, good news! It's always encouraging. The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago is posting about their animals over in the Twitterverse, so that's adorable. They're letting their penguins explore different parts of the aquarium and are posting pictures and videos of them in the process. They're great to watch when you just need to see something good in your life.
I know right now is a really tough time, so hopefully these little things help out.

On Saturday when I went to the store, I was surprised to see the cereal aisles full. I think the news announced the next day made some announcement about pasta, cereals, canned goods, etc. to be something to stock up on.
Not sure what my stores look like right now, but my sister told me the pasta aisle is empty and so is the toilet paper, paper towels, etc. have not been restocked.

I just got back from the store, we decided it might be time to stock up on what we can, because there’s y’all of a 30 day forced quarantine in my state, and our Walmart was EMPTY. I nearly cried, not because of MY personal lack of food (granted were doing pretty good) but because of all the other people who are less fortunate and might not be able to get the things they need because people are buying unnecessary things.... :/ like this is the lunch meat.. or was I should say...

My state has now forbidden gatherings of over 10 people. If you violate the law, you can be put in jail or pay a fine. I now know how the Hogwarts students felt when Umbridge was in charge.

I'm super late to this thread, but I wanted to chip my two cents in. I was supposed to move out today, but my province is on lockdown. Non-essential businesses are closed- which means my rental truck's deposit was sent back this morning, and now I'm stuck until it's lifted. The only silver lining (is this even a silver lining? honestly?) is that I still have my job, as I work at a pharmacy... =/ Gotta catch my W's somewhere, right?

read an article in the WSJ where people admitted that they were only buying non-perishables (rice/beans/pasta/etc) and don't even know how to cook them sad world. maybe people will actually see the value in basic living skills now.
our supermarket is mostly okay, although we live in a bougie area. Potatoes, bread, poultry, pasta, and canned goods are mostly out but they restock daily. my sister had to go to sprouts at 7:30am to get my mom her sprouted bread, though.

Felt kinda backwards honestly.

You can use baby wipes in lieu of toilet paper.
