The state of Illinois has declared a state of emergency, but my college (located within Illinois, of course) is handing out 300 free tickets to a basketball game for this weekend. I would avoid that basketball game so hard.

is anyone else constantly misreading covid-19 as corvid-19 Honestly I spelled it Corvid for a while until I saw it was covid as far as diseases go I thought Corvid made it sound way cooler but that might just be because I love crows

My university's finals are all take-home/canceled. Next quarter's classes are also going to be online.

This evening’s developments have me pretty anxious with the virus reaching my area...
Tom Hanks and his wife have the virus now, and a Utah Jazz player unknowingly brought it to OKC so the NBA season is now suspended. A lot of local colleges and even public schools are starting to announce extensions to spring break and plans to hold classes online only afterwards >.<

I would avoid that basketball game so hard. That's my intention. All the same, I'm fully expecting to catch it from somebody who goes so that I can start showing symptoms just in time for my spring break on the week of the 23rd (which I think means it will be my responsibilty to travel and cough on every door handle I can find).

The university where I live currently announced today they're transitioning to online. (I'm not a student there but my roommate and best friend both are). I'm in 2 choirs and we've been given the whole "don't come to rehearsal if you're sick" speech but nothing cancelled/postponed yet.

it’s in the province next to mine as of last night. I’m starting to wonder if my university’s gonna go on lockdown before exams happen tbh
also seconding what other people have said: PLEASE go to credible sources for information. there’s so much misinformation surrounding this it’s crazy

I’d like to remind everyone that the amount of confirmed cases is not the same as actual infection rate. There’s probably a thousand people who have it and will never know it. Death rate is super skewed. Also, Italians have HORRIBLE health. This is a respiratory virus and most italians have pre-cancerous lung conditions from constant smoking. Of course Italy will have a much higher death rate. As far as sending students home, because we are such a bubble campus, we’re more likely to endanger people (our friends and family at home) if we’re sent back than if we all just remained put. The Italian government also took way too long to respond to the outbreak, and their healthcare system isn’t very good to begin with. I didn’t know about the smoking thing but I’m not surprised

I think there are 5 cases in my state as of now, with 4 of them being in the 3 counties surrounding mine. I wouldn’t be surprised if it spread to my city sometime soon, considering how more then half of the state’s population lives here. My brother’s college has been moved to online only, and I expect that my other brother’s college will do that too. I’m not sure about my high school, though, since it’s privately run and the head teachers can be... stubborn. Normally none of this would worry me, but I’m really worried about my grandpa. He’s living in FL right now until he comes back in April, and the area he lives in has TONS of tourists. He isn’t healthy at all, he had cancer about five years ago and still has complications from that.

there are around 700 confirmed cases in sweden and we had our first and only death yesterday. the government are honestly handling it pretty well, so i don't see much panic anywhere, just caution. legislation temporarily making large public gatherings (over 500 people) illegal was passed yesterday and they're in talks about modifying sick leave since we're being instructed to stay home if we get any cold symptoms, even mild. ive been home nearly 2 weeks straight because of mine since im always down for a long time, but for the most part things are going pretty much as normal tbh

our college is probably gonna extend swing break a week or so but i can't imagine they'd do it for longer than that
the vast majority of U.S. deaths from the virus were all from that one washington nursing home that got it first.

My college has officially moved to online classes, effective after spring break. Though I'll still have to go in for labs and stuff. Hopefully finals will be easier this way lol

The place I work at started doing medical screenings for all the staff. (We're basically asked some questions and required to stay home if we show signs of the virus.)
And people here started getting so much toilet paper and hand sanitizer, it's crazy.

Perhaps they have a pooping problem that requires a lot of toilet paper. (jk)
In all seriousness, it's strange. All it does is annoy people.

Why toilet paper out of all things to hoard during a pandemicI think it’s because if people have to go into a 2 week quarantine, they can’t leave their home. So they hoard toilet paper to last them long enough. Just a guess.
