As you all know, there are many cats who have had their pelt colors changed, do you think this change was for the better or the worse?
Here are my thoughts.
Tawnypelt - originally, she was described to be the same color as her mother, I think this pelt color would have fit her name better, rather than her being a tortoiseshell.
Birchfall - originally, he was described as grey, I think this pelt color would have been better than light brown, since birch trees are grey, and Ferncloud could have a kit that takes after her in appearance.
Shellfur - originally, he was described as white, now he's a tortoiseshell, I actually like this pelt color change, because of the name pun.
Crowfeather - originally he was black, now he is dark grey, I think black would have been better suited, given his name

I don't really pay attention to the pelt colors of the background characters, I just take their name and imagine what pelt color I think would best fit them lol

Tawnypelt and Crowfeather retaining their original pelt descriptions would have been nice since it better suits their name. Though, I personally like tortoiseshell Tawnypelt a lot.

Tawny's pelt color change never resonated with me tbh because her name didn't work with her description at all. When I drew her once I made her a mostly ginger torbie with dark brown patches so that she matched her name better instead of the other way around like I've seen other folks do. Like, she was described with a pelt similar to her mother (Granted, Tawny is a different color than golden but point still stands, she was supposed to take after her mother originally), might as well make her more like that.
Another pelt change was Tigerheart being golden like Lionblaze as a kit or paw but then changed to be yet another Tigerclone. That annoyed me because god STOP with the dark brown tabbies. =3= So when I draw Tigerheart I give him a lighter sorta "honeyed" brown tone instead of just making him just another dark tabby tom like Tigerstar and differentiate him from the others.
Both instances could've gone without the changes tbh because really, such design changes shouldn't even happen in the first place! Pick a look and stick to it, otherwise your books look very first-draft-y as if you hadn't settled on something yet until later.

HollyfallDo you know why they changed her into a tortoiseshell? BrindlefernOoh, that sounds like a really pretty pelt color for her, it partially keeps her current design, and it makes it fit her name better, and ties into her looking like Goldenflower. Speaking of looking like Goldenflower, it's a bit ironic, how Sasha had a daughter who looks more like Goldenflower, than Tawnypelt does lol. I completely forgot about Tigerheart originally being golden, it'd be interesting, if he was golden, but had black stripes like a tiger. Agreed, especially in the case of Shellfur, but at least he's not a main character like the other two mentioned above.

Chicken Vicky mentioned on her facebook that Tawnypelt should have always been tawny/ginger, so I'm guessing she, as the editor at the time, forgot her original pelt color, made her a tortoiseshell, and realized the mistake later on.

Oh, that kind of sucks honestly, it would have made her more unique, since there's like only a handful of tawny cats, and tortoiseshells are basically a dime a dozen, and it would have made her look more like Goldenflower. However, the funny thing is, being tawny/ginger, she wouldn't be genetically correct, but being a tortoiseshell, she is lol

There's also Mapleshade, who shares the same fate as Tawnypelt ... of being described as a ginger she-cat, only to accidentally be shown as a tortoiseshell, which then stuck. :-P
