When faced with love, a decision must be made. Do they follow their hearts? Or choose their Clans?
There's tension between the clans... The Clans are growing hungry as the talons of leaf-bare grasp on. There is ever-growing tension between the clans as they fight for more territory to support their clanmates, and talk of a battle makes the forest feel colder than it already is. Yet, in all the tension, is a budding flower of hope. A romance that is unexpected and dangerous, but cannot be ignored. Jackdawstar and Tansymist meet, initially as a coincidence, but it soon turns purposeful. Their love makes them inseperable aside from the fact that... he is a leader, and she is a warrior from the opposing clan.
The Leader:
Jackdawstar - a tom with a long, thick coat that is black in colour but with reddish tinges to the ends of his pelt. In the sunlight his pelt will glow as though it is red, but in the darkness he appears like a shadow with nothing but his round yellow eyes to give away his appearance. Jackdawstar was a young warrior when he was made deputy and it was a great honor indeed, Jackdawstar had doubted himself greatly. Now, moons later, he has learned to trust his leadership ability and believes that whatever happens StarClan will guide his paws. Jackdawstar is a loyal tom, so when he falls in love with a molly from another clan, he feels divided. As a leader, he simply cannot leave his clan, but as an individual his heart yearns. A kind tom with an understated sense of humor, he can only hope that StarClan will protect him and his clan.
The One He Loves:
Tansymist

So I had two different thoughts on how they could meet, lemme know what you think! One would be a sickness and Tansy has to accompany the medicine cat to bring/fetch herbs from other clan, orrr my other thought would be that the clans are nearly/are at war and there's lots of truce discussions that Tansy accompanies, perhaps she could have a close trusted relationship with her own leader to make things more dramatic etc.
Tansymist - a brown tabby she-cat with a bright white chest and underbelly. Her vivid yellow eyes remind of her flowery name. Tansymist is a trusted warrior to her clan's leader, with a brilliant mind for problem solving and a steady, ever confident demeanor. When she falls in love with Jackdawstar, all her plans of serving her clan fall to the wind as she throws her usually collected self whole heartedly into a love she cannot have. She is determined to place Jackdawstar first, but her highly valued position leaves little room for secrets.

[ oooh! I think if the clans are having a dispute (possibly about territory, because maybe its leaf-bear and prey is scarce) so Jackdawstar sees her a few times there, and then they start to talk. They can meet properly because (being leaf bare) Tansymist can be sent to get herbs that grow at the border, and Jackdawstar sees her when he is hunting alone. He is kind enough to not attack her despite the tension between the clans, and it can grow from there? ]

[ Sweet! I'm just going to put in some filler characters for my clan, and you can do the same if you want. edit ;; i had a lot of spare time so i added links to all the side characters (just got a few more to go) + family ties, but you dont have to. also just ask if you want me to throw a few filler characters in the clan too! i feel like we can rp the side characters interchangeably (so we can both use all the side characters) because it just helps keeps things flowing
Thinking about territories and stuff, I was thinking it could be a similar situation to the RiverClan and ThunderClan border in the old territories. Both hunt in forests and are separated by a river. There are stones to cross on one end of the river, and a fallen tree towards the other end of the territory. Where the steppings stones are, there's also sandstone that are flat and perfect for sunning (like Sunningrocks) that the cats fight over for territory and hunting rights. What do ya think? ]

All sounds good to me, I agree as well with the interchangeable use of side characters. Here's a preliminary list of the other clan, I'm going to finish it off tonight!:) I've gone ahead and made Tansy the daughter of the current leader to make it more tense, the little background I have for her right now is that the current deputy is very old and she is favourited to become the next one, and since her father is old as well it would make her position very close to being the next leader, so it would be a much bigger deal for her to betray her clan at this point. Thoughts?
Yes I think to keep it nice and simple with a disputed territory portion of the border like a Thunder/River, we can make clan tensions more complicated along the way too!

Okay, I'll type up a starter and we can dive in! ]

[ this is longer than my posts usually are, but i was just wanting to set the scene a bit better. also i included the two other clans but they are pretty irrelevant - its just so it makes more sense for them to gather together. ]
A breeze that buffeted the black leaders coat attested to the fact that leaf-bare had sunk its talons into the territories. He felt a shiver run down his spine, but it was not from cold. This gathering would be one that brought more problems to the clans, but there was naught that Jackdawstar could do to prevent it. If he succumbed to MarshClan and allowed them to steal the Smooth Rocks that ran along the border of their territories, then they'd seem weak. Leaf-bare was the season that BrambleClan relied most on the Smooth Rocks - prey gathered onto the flat surfaces of the rocks to warm themselves and gave amble opportunity to be caught. Glancing over his shoulder at the array of coats behind him, he saw determination among the eyes of his Clan. They would not stand around whilst MarchClan threatened their territory, so Jackdawstar would make sure MarshClan knew about it! Feeling a surge of resolve, Jackdawstar looked down to the clearing where the Clans meet to discuss their moonly going-ons. He could see ShadeClan and MoorClan gathered below already, their shapes mingling.
"Let's go," Jackdawstar flicked his tail and headed down towards the clearing, his yellow eyes narrowed as he saw Rosestar - a lithe tortoiseshell, that lead ShadeClan - and Breezestar - the tabby tom who lead MoorClan. They both stood perched on the Monster Shell, which was a hollow shell of a Twoleg Monster who was long dead which the leaders stood upon to share their news. Beside him, Nettlefang flattened his ears.
"What will you say?" asked the dark tabby, but Jackdawstar hesitated. He hadn't exactly thought of what to say, only that he did have to say something. Jackdawstar opened his mouth to reply, but a ginger she-cat bounced over from ShadeClan and took Nettlefang's attention. Without waiting for Nettlefang to turn back, Jackdawstar slithered away to the base of the Monster Shell. He glanced to Feathersong, the beautiful silver tabby was touching noses to the other medicine cats and began talking.
His eyes drifted to the thicket at the top of the clearing as MarshClan appeared, instantly, his gaze narrowed as he watched Elmstar walk in the lead. Okay, Jackdawstar... now's the time! His paws tingled with anxiety and he waited patiently at the base of the Monster Shell as the other clan descended. His yellow gaze moved from Elmstar to the white deputy that walked at his shoulder, then to the white and brown tabby that padded nearby. He recognized Tansymist, the daughter of Elmstar, though he'd not really spoken to her. Swallowing a lump in his throat, Jackdawstar nodded slowly as Elmstar approached. "Greetings," his voice was surprisingly firm despite the wavering in his gut.
Jackdawstar turned and leaped up onto the Monster Shell, feeling his stomach lurch as his back paw momentarily slipped on the smooth outer shell, but his front claws scraped against the metal and he quickly straightened up, giving his chest a few licks. Rosestar and Breezestar began the gathering, talking of apprentices becoming warriors and other non-issues going on within their clans. When heads turned to Jackdawstar, the tom stepped forward. He would almost blend into the darkness under the night sky if it weren't for his bright yellow gaze that now shone with tenacity.
"We've noticed more than ever before the lingering scents of MarshClan on our territory," he began, his voice firm and his eyes turned to Elmstar, "leaf-bare is no time for BrambleClan to be nice. If we find any hint of your patrols on our territory, there will be no mercy!" His face scowled, and yowls of agreement sounded from his clan below - giving him a boost of confidence. "We'll be having extra patrols along our border, so make sure you stay on your side."

[Shade and Moor are cool with me it does make it easier to imagine as old forest territory clans-esque then:) Sorry this took so long! I wanted mine to be long as an intro one as well]
Tansymist took in deep breaths, her outer demeanor had retained its habitual confident, collected appearance, but inside was a different story. She had begged her father to honour the borders as they were now- not as he imagined them to have been before she was even born. Before the Gathering, as they journeyed toward the neighbouring clans, she and the swiftly aging Cloudypool had tried to break Elmstar from his usual cocksure rhetoric of their true ownership of the whole river and beyond- including Smooth Rocks. "Focus your news on our two new apprentices. And Morningcloud's kits." The intelligent she-cat had suggested this breathlessly behind the MarshClan leader as a way to make BrambleClan forgive their trespasses. Her clan had a burgeoning number of apprentices to care for, and the loss of Barleykit was enough to sway the coldest of hearts.
But now, as she tensed her claws nervously beside their deputy, all she could do was try her best not to make any eye contact with the worryingly staunch yowls of BrambleClan warriors. Please, she found herself praying to the dark BrambleClan leader after he finished speaking. Don't give in to Elmstar like this, it's exactly what he wants. Typically, Elmstar had been open with her about his decisions as leader. She was a clear choice to replace Cloudypool's failing state, and he wanted her to be ready. That had changed lately. Elmstar claimed Jackdawstar was too kind to do anything about Smooth Rocks. He laughed at the thought of any retaliation from BrambleClan, and if they became angry, all the better for the MarshClan leader. Regaining Smooth Rocks was something the leader would gladly see his last life be spent upon. Her father was too old to be starting a war: a war that Tansymist dreaded with grim foresight she herself as leader would have to finish.
She had been lost in her thoughts and already Elmstar was the final speaker. "Our clan has named Sparkpaw and Rubblepaw as new apprentices under their mentors Pikescale and Hawkheart." Tansymist wasn't yet ready to let relief creep in. She held her breath as the old brown tabby continued. "Morningcloud and Toadstripe have welcomed Ryekit and Oatkit." Tansymist's yellow eyes scanned her father's demeanor. Something in his face clouded as he continued speaking about his lost grandkit, chilling Tansymist's hope. "Barleykit did not survive her first moon." This was not the pity evoking that the warrior had hoped for. Elmstar powered onwards instead of leaving his announcements there, a dark, unfriendly grimace as his expression. "MarshClan has not breached our borders with BrambleClan all season. We have remained in the territory that has always belonged to us. And will continue to do so." Though her supportive clanmates still nodded and yowled approvingly out of fierce loyalty to their long reigning leader, Elmstar's words were terribly confusing. Though they sounded in agreement with Jackdawstar's request, anyone who had been listening to Elmstar the last few moons knew what he truly meant by territory that had always belonged to them. They weren't words that would incite a war, but they didn't calm the fire.
Tansymist quelled the shock from her face. She hardened herself once more, keeping up the image of a supportive trusted warrior, third in command to her father. Cedarstem, their medicine cat, seemed unaffected, and detached, as normal. Cloudypool showed just a little emotion as Tansymist herself did. She kept her head high, trying to maintain a gaze above any other clan's cats. How could she confront them and stand by Elmstar's words with conviction? Perhaps with luck, she could melt into her clan's pelts without any crossed interaction.

[ all good! i'm just posting between studying so take ya time! ]
Jackdawstar waited tensely as Elmstar stepped forward and he struggled to keep the fur flat on his shoulders when Elmstar began - Jackdawstar couldn't help the anger that rose in him when the dark tabby leader started without acknowledging Jackdawstar's threat. The black tom pressed his claws against the roof of the Monster Shell and he glanced down to Nettlefang, who was oozing with fury. Beside him, even Kestrelclaw - the wise and thoughtful tom - had eyes narrowed with exasperation. Jackdawstar met Kestrelclaw's gaze, momentarily ignoring the great tabby leader as he continued speaking. It was when Elmstar declared that they hadn't trespassed that furious yowls erupted from the clearing again. In particular, the ginger tabby tom Foxpounce leapt to his paws, "I've scented you myself!" He hissed - Foxpounce was renowned for his intense temper, and Jackdawstar flicked his tail to silence his clan. Reluctantly, Foxpounce sat back down, but his ears were flattened against his head and he hissed to the MarshClan cat that was unfortunate enough to be seated next to him.
"Whether you've been crossing the border or not, you've been warned." Was all Jackdawstar said in reply, the hint of a growl sounded in his throat. His exterior remained composed, except for the fur that bristled around his neck. "We will not tell you again." The threat seemed to have calmed his clan as they nodded agreement. Jackdawstar realised that Elmstar would not back down from such a threat, and he wondered if he had in fact inspired the unforgiving tom to challenge him now. Only time would tell, but as Jackdawstar stood and leapt down from the Monster Shell, he knew that his clan would be ready. He glanced to the MarshClan deputy, his eyes alight with determination, and he nodded slowly.
As his clan began to gather around, Jackdawstar noted that he himself would have to patrol to the Smooth Rocks at dawn. Any sign of weakness would surely seem like a warm welcome to Elmstar and there was no way that Jackdawstar would let that happen.
Jackdawstar bounded out of the clearing and back up to the brush, towards BrambleClan territory. His clan bounded at his heels, and at the edge of the clearing he turned his head and stared back at the clearing, his yellow eyes as bright and clear as the sun. Finally, he turned and slunk through the bushes. He could hear his clan gossiping among themselves, but he did not indulge in listening. Instead, his paws tingled with a sense that something was going to happen soon. In his stomach, he felt nervous, but more than that, he wondered what tomorrow would bring.
[ then we can skip to dawn - when jackdawstar and tansymist can meet o: ]

[looooovely stuff :D]
Tansymist tried her best to think only of the task before her. She plucked small yellow flowers from the nooks of the Smooth Rocks with her teeth and gentle piled them beside her paws. The yowls of defiance from last night's Gathering still rang in her ears, and her, helpless to diffuse the situation, neither a deputy, nor a medicine cat, nor a leader. She needed to think of this place as her territory to feel safe. This was not an easy task, as the very ground seemed to seep with doubt, and the perceptive she-cat was unable to believe her father's rousing claims of their rights.
Her mind flashed back to the aftermath of last night, Elmstar's unbothered apathy toward Jackdawstar's clear warnings, Cloudypool's weak sadness at his leader's foolishness, and her own silence. Cedarstem's impatience only aggravated the situation- why the medicine cat needed herbs from Smooth Rocks the very next day was absolutely unfounded, it was like he was never tuned in to the tensions the clan experienced, always with his mind in the stars. Tansymist volunteered to fetch the herbs. Perhaps it was her own pride, but she truly believed she could handle the mission better than any other clanmate. Efficiently, silently, and confidently. That was how she conducted herself always. And thankfully, she had managed to leave behind clumsy Newtpaw without damaging his feelings too much.
How fitting that the herb should be tansy, little golden blossoms that Cedarstem named a cure-all for a variety of ailments. If Tansymist left before the sunrise peaked too high, she would evade the dawn patrol, and her scent would blend with that of MarshClan cats who had indeed been trespassing as of late. Elmstar had convinced them all so thoroughly that they owned that scrap of prey rich land, how could any hunting patrol neglect to send at least one careful cat out to it every so often. She held in a sneeze as beads of pollen caught in her nose. Efficiency, silence, confidence. She stood by her father, she stood by her clan, and what she was doing was perfectly within her bounds.

Returning to camp after the gathering was a headache to deal with. His clanmates were furious with how nonchalant the MarshClan leader had been, so much so that Jackdawstar basically had to stand in front of the camp entrance to prevent them from invading the MarchClan camp right then and there. It had been exhausting, yet when Jackdawstar fell into his nest, he could not sleep. He had informed Nettlefang that he would be patrolling the border the next morning at dawn, but Jackdawstar left earlier. His mind mind was restless and he thought he'd feel better after visiting the border himself. It was not hard to leave camp without stirring anyone, as they were fast asleep.
As he reached Smooth Rocks, there was a change in the bitter leaf-bare wind, sending the breeze towards him. Raising his head to take in the scents, he noted a hint of MarshClan. As if! He thought, digging his claws into the frozen ground beneath his paws, it's been less than a day and they are already on our territory! Not knowing whether it was a patrol or a lone cat, Jackdawstar crouched into the brush and moved silently towards Smooth Rocks, not wanting to be detected. He would not be able to face an entire patrol of cats, but he could definitely scare off a lone cat who may be particularly defiant of BrambleClan.
Edging closer, Jackdawstar could make out a cat moving about the crevices in the rocks. His pelt felt hot with anger as he watched the white and tabby. She didn't appear to be hunting for prey, but instead was stealing their herbs - which was equally important during this tough leaf-bare. Jackdawstar glanced to his left where one last fern sat before the Smooth Rocks, which offered no protection on their sand-stone surfaces. He slithered forward, then took a deep breath. He bunched onto his haunches and sprang, leaping at the she-cat who was invading his territory.
His claws were unsheathed as he barreled into her side, having the element of surprise gave him the upper hand, and he pinned her down to the icy surface of the rock, which had yet to be warmed by the sun. "What are you doing on BrambleClan territory?" He spat. His claws were still unsheathed, but he did not want to cause injury. More than anything, he just wished the MarshClan would hunt on their own territory, and leave him be. Jackdawstar had always been a softer leader, and he knew that was why Elmstar was taking advantage of him now.

Her mind so wrapped up in clearing her thoughts from all that pressed upon her, Tansymist's surroundings faded into the background. For this reason, nothing but instinct guided her reaction to the shocking force that pinned her to the ground in a flash. She felt the precarious graze of unsheathed claws lightly threaten her pelt, and knew how real her situation was. She hissed and unsheathed her claws in response, returning the pressure on her assailant's shoulders and underbelly, but pausing from a pummeling defense attack when she recognised the figure that spoke to her.
Yellow eyes met her own. He was furious at her, and he was the very leader of the clan on whose territory she had trespassed. He could have killed her on sight, it was the least she deserved after the disaster of the Gathering last night, and it's not as if Smooth Rocks hadn't been deadly before. Perchtail was killed not too long ago in a spat between the clans, though it was still unclear as to how exactly he had met his end. They had suspected at the claws of BrambleClan, but Tansymist couldn't believe such a drastic attack could have occurred, not when the sharp fall of the river cliffs dropped off not too far from the rocks. Perhaps she was wrong, and Jackdawstar would kill her right there, with no one to see what had happened, it was a perfectly strategic move.
"Jackdawstar. I-" She nearly apologised. Her diplomatic nature was begging her to patch things right there with the clan. No, not yet...she needed to stand beside her father, at least so long as his last life clung on. "I was sent by Cedarstem." Blame the medicine cat who avoided their cross-clan duties, save her leader. "Did he not notify Feathersong?" Her heart beat hot in her ears as she waited for any movement from the tom above her. What could she do now but use her words?

Gazing down at his MarshClan victim, Jackdawstar realized who he had in his grasp. It was Tansymist, the beautiful brown and white tabby, who often walked beside her father towards the gathering. He hesitated, his unsheathed claws still grazing her shoulders, and his ears pricked at she stammered a reply. For a moment he considered her words carefully, and considered the idea of chasing her off the territory with a few wounds to remember him by. Alas, if he were to wound the she-cat, he was sure that Elmstar would raid there camp the next moment. He could not risk starting a pride-based war at this time, regardless of his own feelings towards the she-cat trespassing. If a war started, it would not be at his paws. With a small huff, Jackdawstar narrowed his gaze, "No," he mumbled in reply to the mention of Feathersong, "she did not."
Figuring that if MarshClan were planning on invading at that moment they would send more than one cat, Jackdawstar decided it would be safe enough to release her from his grasp. Slowly, with great poise, he stepped away from her and allowed her to rise to her paws, but his eyes were still glittering with distrust, and his claws remained unsheathed. "Why did Cedarstem send you into our territory? Couldn't he collect herbs from your own territory? Or Feathersong deliver them herself at the border - or even the next half-moon?" The black tom questioned with a flick of his long-furred tail.
Jackdawstar watched as her eyes flickered with many thoughts and emotions, but he was unable to understand it. Perhaps she was trying to figure out the best way to deceive him... but looking at her again - yellow gaze meeting yellow gaze, he couldn't believe that was the case. Jackdawstar's own eyes, next to the distrust, reflected the seriousness of his thoughts. The blazing fury had faded to a somber dullness. Though he stood tall and his claws scraped against the surface of the rocks, it was clear that Jackdawstar did not want to fight.

Tansymist had expected this response from the leader. It was doubtless no fault of Feathersong's, as Tansymist knew Cedarstem's decision to order for herbs to be collected was likely nothing but impatience and irresponsible planning. This was exactly why she was glad it was herself gathering them, and not any other warrior, who would have been clawing and spitting fruitlessly by now. Gratefully, she felt the weight lift from her shoulders. With careful, slow movements, she got to her paws, standing as collected and peaceably as she could.
Tansymist was cautious as to how she replied to his line of very warranted questioning. "Tansy," she mewed simply. "As you know, it's only found in numbers along these crevices." She glanced down with her yellow eyes to the golden blossoms that poked through weeds by the stones. "Cedarstem believed these to be of critical importance, and...must have neglected to notify Feathersong. Cedarstem had other matters to attend to in the clan and could not leave," she lied, knowing full well the medicine cat didn't care to do his work for himself.
Their young medicine cat was beginning to be a problem. There was little Tansymist as a warrior could do besides follow his requests and try to make sure his irresponsible plans were carried out by her alone safely. However, this meant she ended up in situations such as this- all by herself. Maybe, she thought, it was time for her to accept that she could not solve all the clan's problems alone, but now was not the time to come to this realisation.
She had been lost in thoughts again. Words were needed to placate this situation, but it seemed as though Jackdawstar's initial threatening defensiveness had subsided as the two of them stood facing each other, his face betraying a thoughtfulness that his claws did not. "I'm sorry it happened this way," she offered. It truly was supposed to be a peaceful mission, but Tansymist wasn't foolish enough not to see what her presence looked like. Surrounded between her father and a zealous medicine cat, Jackdawstar seemed like the first reasonable cat she had talked to in moons. She wanted to explain everything to him, that the Gathering wasn't how her clan wanted it to go, that they really had been trespassing, but only because of the misinformation of one ancient tom. Disloyal. Her thoughts went against everything she knew of trust in her leader, her family, her clan. She hardened her face once more. No more information would slip through her, he was an enemy.

Staring at the she-cat, Jackdawstar felt himself become torn. Everything within him yowled that he should not let her stay on his territory for another moment, and yet he found himself pricking his ears to catch all her words. Jackdawstar hesitated, unsure whether or not he should believe what the enemy warrior said, and he thought silently as to why they had come to their territory now. Feathersong never mentioned to him before that she would supply tansy to MarshClan, so the other clan had to have another source of the herb. What made Cedarstem so determined to have it now and from his territory? Straightening up, Jackdawstar sighed. "Well... I won't do anything to you now but... but just make sure you don't wander here again. Even if Cedarstem asks, he really should be talking with Feathersong, not sending warriors into our territory." His words were spoken without a hint of aggression, just fairness. And was there any denying his words? It was simply the Warrior Code - medicine cats were granted safety, but warriors were not. Jackdawstar shivered at the thought of the dawn patrol having discovered Tansymist before he did. He knew that if Ivycloud, Kestrelclaw, or Nettlefang had stumbled upon her stealing herbs, she would have been torn to shreds. And yet there was a sense of uncertainty also. Was he right in talking to her, as opposed to chasing her off immediately like they would do? He had no reason to believe her words, but the troubled gleam in her gaze made him feel as she was being truthful.
Jackdawstar's fur laid flat on his shoulders and his claws sheathed. A sigh sounded on his lips and he looked past Tansymist to the forest as she apologized. "I'm sorry if I hurt you at all," he meowed softly, now looking sheepish - a strange feat for a leader such as himself. "I'll walk you back to the border though. The dawn patrol will be passing through soon and I'm not sure they'll be so forgiving..." his words trailed, as he was sure she already knew what would happen. He stepped forward, then dipped his head to pick up the sweet smelling tansy flowers. "You can still have these," he mumbled over his mouthful. He started padding towards the river which was a short distance away, and from the sound of it, the river was rushing quickly after recent rains. He glanced back to ensure the she-cat was following, and in that moment, he considered what a pleasant meeting it had been.
In reality, finding another cat on his territory always brought drama. But the she-cats swift apology and easygoing demeanor meant that he was able to remain peaceful. And if anyone knew anything about Jackdawstar, it was that he was soft at heart. As he padded onward with the sweet smelling herbs distracting him, the tom trod directly atop a thorn. He yelped - a short, loud sound - and dropped the yellow flowers to the leaf littered floor. It was just about the most embarrassing thing the tom could have done, but a small whimper left his lips as he rose his paw and saw the jagged thorn poking from his pad.
