Foxpounce ;; Camp ;; Whiteshell ;; Voidastral ;;
Foxpounce couldn't help but feel annoyed. All of her words made sense, and she was entirely right. But Foxpounce hated being wrong. He would go to great lengths to avoid being wrong. This tom was very much confusing - he was rash which made him prone to mistakes, and yet he hated making mistakes and being wrong. It was an endless, temperamental cycle. "I only want to bring as much prey for the clan as possible," he mumbled before taking another bite of his mouse. His pelt felt warm from the heat of his temper, but it cooled as a forgiving breeze swept past and ruffled and whiskers. "Besides - a mouse is a mouse and a fish is a fish." He swiftly finished his lunch and rose to his paws with fierce determination. "We could have a contest? Down by the river, see who can catch the most?" He was setting himself up for failure, but perhaps a healthy blow to his arrogance would prove beneficial. He looked at Whiteshell with amber eyes that were alight with the thought of a competition.

Whiteshell had to think that one over. She'd never been the type to really compete. And competitions of food was maybe even a bit foolish too. It wasn't catching for the clan then, it was catching to win. But, she hadn't a thing to do and Foxpounce seemed only to get more fired up about things everytime she spoke. At this point, the cream pelted warrior figure's that saying yes and perhaps letting the tom win is enough. Not that she believe she can win. Catching fish takes time, not spastic paw swiping. "That sounds perfectly fine with me. Do we want to set a limit then? Like first to three prey wins." She offers up the option, if he took that then maybe she would try. Three fish wasn't too bad. And no, she didn't have to hunt fish, maybe it was just to prove some kind of point about it. Whiteshell didnt think too hard on it.

Satisfaction soothed the tom as Whiteshell agreed to his prey-catching competition. The young warrior clearly had some apprentice tendencies, if he thought catching prey for games rather than survival was more fun. He licked the mouse and kneaded the ground in anticipation, his eyes ablaze with the prospective of the hunt. "First to three wins - but I'll catch more!" His tail swept quickly over the ground. He waited until the she-cat had eaten her fill of lunch, then he walked a circle around her, buzzing with a apprentice-like excitement. "Come on then, let's go!" All of his temper seemed lost as he bounded to the camp entrance and turned his head back to ensure Whiteshell was following. The stream was not to far away, and Foxpounce hoped that the twolegs hadn't invaded their fishing sanctuary either.

Even making a limit didn't work for Foxpounce. It seemed Whiteshell was stuck with the stubborn tom wanting to catch way over the limit. The cream warrior finished her fish, picked herself up and followed after him calmly. She couldnt help but still smile, she had to admit that his excitement was a bit infectious. Whiteshell caught up to the tom and soon they were out of camp and on their way to the stream. "You know," she started "that this competition is sort of disrespectful to the prey. So I think we should just leave it at three. Even if you find more, it's an apprentice's mindset to chase it." She tried to be nice about it. It may have come off as snarky or even condescending. And maybe it was, but the warrior thought she ought to tell him before they got there. Maybe it would change his mind? She hoped so.

Foxpounce ;; The Stream ;; Whiteshell ;; Voidastral ;;
Foxpounce had padded quickly towards the stream, although his ears had remained perked and his nose twitched intermittently as he remained aware of his surroundings. One could not be too careful when twolegs were about in their territory - especially the tempered tom who was prone to bursts of anger when inconvenienced by the twolegs. He twitched his ears at the molly's words and he turned his head away from her, considering her words. When he turned back, his eyes were defensive and he flicked his tail back and forth. "We'll just see who catches the most." It was like her words had rolled his pelt as though it was water on a ducks wing - but this tom used it to fuel his determination. It he could be difficult, it seemed he would be. Nearing the stream, the sound of it gently rippling was peaceful, and the tom bounded the last few steps to the waters edge. Some fish sensed his shadow and immediately darted away.

Whiteshell let out a quiet snicker, shaking her head as the tom went on. Whatever, at least she tried to convince him otherwise. Difficult might as well be a synonym to his name. "I guess we will." The white warrior stepped up to the stream, her shadow spooked few fish. Though most seemed to have already split from Foxpounce's arrival mere seconds before her. Whiteshell took a seat just mere steps from being emerged into the water. Whatever may push up on the shoreline hit her paws and soaked the fur. She didn't mind all that much, her focus was on the fish. Her shadow was over the stream, which is the opposite of what she wanted at the moment but the warrior figured it was a little extra to cross the stream so her shadow faced the grass.

Foxpounce ;; The Stream ;; Whiteshell ;; Voidastral ;;
The hot-headed tom watched the water so intently, that when the water lapped up at his paws, he jumped back with shock. He hissed through clench teeth and shook one of his paws, "I hate getting wet..." he mumbled to himself. Perhaps challenging a skilled fisher to a competition when he himself was not a good fisher but also was not a fan of water, was an idiotic idea. But that didn't stop Foxpounce from stepping forward once more - just outside of the waters lapping - and stare at the water with determination. He hardly considered his shadow scaring the fish, instead, he was rash to start pawing at the silver flutters in the water. The fish reflected in the sunlight above, but when he darted his paw into the water he missed them completely. Quickly, he became frustrated. His ears flattened on his head and the stubborn started splashing his paws about in the water, a sorry attempt to catch a fish.

Whiteshell // With: Foxpounce aether // The stream
Whiteshell watched her clanmate spastically grab for a fish. "All that splashing scares them away, you know that right?" she questions. She'd already moved a bit farther down the stream, just so Foxpounce's splashing didn't spook away the fish she'd be trying to catch too. The warrior took a moment to calm herself, then she began fishing the way her mentor had taught her. Claws out, paw in the water, hovering around. This was so that when fish became less suspicious or got curious, her paw was already in the water and swiping would be easier. It took a couple of seconds, maybe a minute or two before a fish tried to brave looking at what may seem like a white plant from here, seeing how her long fur was pulled in the water. When it was just close enough, she gave it a moment before swiping it, claws out in an attempt to hook onto it and slam it to the ground. It was an art, but nothing is done perfectly every time. It'd be likely her next two or three attempts would fail. Swift timing, patience and some element of graceful movement were all important here.

Foxpounce ;; The Stream ;; Whiteshell ;; Voidastral ;;
Foxpounce knew the she-cats words rang true, and he swallowed through a thick lump of pride. He sat crouched over the stream, staring at his own amber eyes in the reflection on the clear water. He scowled at his reflection before splashing at the water with his paw again and jumping to his feet. His intense stare moved to Whiteshell as she gracefully hooked a fish and threw it to the ground, finishing it with a swift blow. His eyes narrowed quickly and he opened his mouth as though to speak, but then turned away. He paced further down the stream and crouched down again. I can do it! I'm no fool! He thought to himself, his pelt itched with heat from his temper, and he defiantly watched the water. Fish darted back and forth, their scales shining in the sunlight. Such easy targets, and yet whenever Foxpounce swiped at one, he barely scraped it and it sped away. It wasn't long before the tomcat jumped to his feet again. "Fish-fools! I don't like fish anyway!" He spat at the water, his words were those of a foolish, hot-headed tom, and he stormed over to Whiteshell as though he were a ginger storm cloud. From the way his eyes blazed he might give her the impression he was going to snap at her, but instead he crouched beside her, his pelt bristling. "Show me," his words snappish, "how did you do it?"

Whiteshell // With: Foxpounce aether // The stream
The cream warrior could hear her clanmate from down the stream, yelling at the prey like they'd dealt some sort of personal offense. Maybe to his ego. She went back to trying to catch a second fish, but when she found a shadow approach near her she looked up. Whiteshell stared at Foxpounce, her eyes alarmed at first before settling back to calm. For a moment there she expected him to lash out, but instead, he took a seat. "Well, as I mentioned, you need to be patient with the fish. This isn't as thrilling as catching a mouse in the forest. It's more like finding a calm place before you attack." She looks back towards the stream, blue eyes following the little movements of fish "You need to be calm and still. The stillness is because you've got to be close to the water, enough that it can lap at your paws." she turns her focus back to the tom "You paw has to dangle out as still as it can and when some fish becomes curious enough, you swipe. The method doesn't guarantee a fish every time, but it's admittedly much better than your spastic, temperamental splashing." Whiteshell smiles a bit. Maybe that was her teasing him about it, a bit apprentice-like but she was allowed that every once and a while.
