So would it have been?
Personally, I think it would have made for a more unique plotline. We see a lot of the four clans but we don't see how a clan might manage itself alone. We got a glimpse in SkyClan's Destiny and honestly there's so much potential!
Let me quickly list a few ways SkyClan differs from the four clans: - Daylight warriors - this is something that exists in SkyClan exclusively and it's interesting to see in SkyClan's Destiny. SkyClan's new and blooming, and from what we can tell by the end of the book, the daylight warriors are what old SkyClan needed - they needed to expand their vision to not just the cats who stayed at the gorge 24/7, but also to the cats who were willing to be part of SkyClan but also not leave their home. (And as of SkyClan and the Stranger the bias towards these warriors hasn't entirely left, so that's something unresolved.) - Open forum - I think this one many of us forgot, but let us not forget that SkyClan's members are more open to suggest new things or talk about their complaints during the full moon, their own version of a 'Gathering' - indicating that a lot of the clan gets to decide what they want to and they also get to talk about things they'd like to be fixed directly to the leader. That's not something we see in the four clans, if you think about it. (Of course, even in SkyClan, all decisions are made final by the leader. But in the clans it seems that the hierarchy is more solid than that of SkyClan.) - A close-knit family-esque community - the clans are communities, and they're all supposed to be family, but do we really see that continuing the canon arc? I personally think that the writers ended up forgoing writing about connections within the clan and writing more about the centric POV characters. (Now because I haven't read TBC or AVoS I can't say if this is the continuing conga line for all books; but I personally think that during OotS especially, this problem was bad.) In SkyClan I think there's a lot more of this sort of community building, what with the collective training sessions and projects and whatnot. [/spoiler]
Then again, these are my thoughts, and yours can differ. So what do you think? [/p][/p][/p][/p][/p]

I'm on the fence, leaning more towards no. I think the idea of a stand alone clan is pretty interesting, and I love the idea of Daylight warriors. However, I don't like the fact that SkyClan is excluded, Skystar worked HARD to get his clan cemented with the others, and SkyClan was the first clan to be officially a clan (I think) and I know that Skystar is a huge butthead sometimes, but just tossing his clan aside seems a bit insulting, not only to him, but to all SkyClan cats of the past.

Chicken - well, yes, that is true, and those are valid points. (Especially SkyClan being the first bit.) But at the same time, those are the exact reasons why old SkyClan fell originally. In the end they had to get more experimental to survive.

It just sucks that like...when something goes wrong it always seems to affect SkyClan, and when they disappeared, it seemed to affect ShadowClan. Why are all the S clans getting hate? Lol

I personally think that SkyClan should have stayed at the gorge. Mainly because five Clans just feels like too many, and the other Clans (especially RiverClan) lose even more focus with their inclusion from a narrative perspective.
I never really liked the idea of SkyClan as it is. They feel too much like ThunderClan in a lot of ways. The balance of the four Clans in the first series felt perfect and now I feel like there are two ThunderClans living by the lake. When SkyClan lived in the gorge, at least they felt different. They had their own customs (such as the daylight warriors) and they had their own troubles (like the rats, the rogue group, etc.)
If the Tribe of Rushing Water can remain by themselves, why couldn't SkyClan?
