What do you think are some of the most forced, chemistry-less romances in the series? Tbf, the romances post-TPB were pretty lacking. I'd have to go with LionCinder and ClearStorm.

I sometimes feel like Bramblestar x Squirrelflight is this to an extent. BluexOak and LeafxCrow too, but I do have my own theories as to why this may be the case, which is why I don't mind either of them that much.

Bramblestar x Squirrelflight
Leafpool x Crowfeather
Pebbleshine x Hawkwing
I don't understand these pairings where they hate each other, and then they become mates, it's kind of lame.
I can kind of understand Lionblaze x Cinderheart, because they probably bonded over losing someone close to them.

CrowLeaf, LionCinder, HawkPebble, ThunderViolet, OakBlue, ClearStorm...
BrambleSquirrel definitely counted as this later in the TNP arc and OoTS end and further.

I know people like it and its not as bad as some relationships, but ThunderViolet. They felt really forced and there was no chemistry.

I want to believe that they only paired up Thunder and Violet Dawn because they felt sorry for him. It happened so suddenly and it's hard to believe that he actually loves her even though they have kits.

I would have liked more build up to make it believe it, rather that the spotting this she-cat and instant love. A lot of the DOTC relationships are underwhelming.

I heard somewhere that Violet Dawn was originally intended to be introduced earlier (I think in A Forest Divided or something?). Idk if that's true or not, but if it was, then that meant that she could've been a more fleshed out character for at least a book's worth and ThunderViolet would probably at least be given some time (Not too much but some), maybe not even getting together until near the end of the final book, or maybe even some time after? Heck, She to me READS like a character that was supposed to be introduced earlier even but then plans changed so she's shoved in with him (IK DoTC's romances can be not great but it does have a few good ones and if the Mains are gonna have them I want them to be good ones (Well excluding Clear Sky that is)). Idk. I don't like rumors but that one suggests missed potential which would suck. x.x Shit man, him and Lightning as a couple would be less forced in comparison.

I wonder why the majority of the romances are so meh/bland/unlikable. It's clear the Erins are capable of writing decent and pretty wholesome romances (FireSand, CrookedWillow, DustFern, BrackenSorrel), so I wonder why the authors often falter.

They’re good at writing more lowkey/normal relationships

FireSand: I still think her suddenly falling for him after he saved her, and Fire being easily oblivious about her feelings until someone pointed it out was utterly stupid. FireSpotted: The fact that this pairing still had a leg when they barely interacted when they were both alive, and even after Fire had kits with another long-standing mate was hilarious to me. LionCinder: They go on one walk in the forest then suddenly he's head over heels for her why? LeafCrow: Sees Feather in Leaf, says he saved Feather when he saved Leaf, suddenly blurts out his feelings for her and puts her on the spot??? PebbleHawk: It's a watered-down version of BrambleSquirrel from TNP. YellowRagged: He literally treated her like crap for the longest time. ThunderViolet: One look and swoon. ClearStorm: Literally the same as ThunderViolet. ClearStar: Ever dated your son's ex after her dad and his goons tortured you? BerryPoppy: From both sides it's weird. Her sister dies so she moves in on the guy she's liked, his mate dies so he moves in on her sister?? SparkLark: Don't know why this ever became a thing, felt weird and out of nowhere tbh. TwigFin: Basically watered-down YellowRagged that a noticed from a mile of away. OakBlue: A one time thing that was so unnecessary just for the means of drama. DoveTiger: LionCinder, but 10x worse, distasteful and neither characters are likable. They dragged other cats down with their foolishness, which spans over 12 books and a friggen SE.

OakBlue. Ugh, it was so unnecessary to bring this one in. Bluefur had more chemistry with Crookedjaw tbh. DoveTiger. Could've been okay but it was shoved down all our throats too many times.

DoveTiger was so forced (so was DoveBumble). They spent so long showing us how Tiger wasn't quite right for Dove, only to spend a series and a SE on getting them back together.
As for DoveBumble, Dove tried to love him or at least picked the right choice - but at least that was supposed to feel forced.

While I like it, ThunderViolet is definitely a victim of this. Tbh I felt she had better chemistry with Lightning Tail than him, and that's saying something. She either should've been introduced earlier, or just not have been a love interest for Thunder. Honestly it makes me think that her having her mate killed off from the start was so she was available for Thunder, and I wish that this actually did something to effect their relationship. Then again, I do prefer ThunderViolet over ThunderLightning considering I feel it is more of a brotherly relationship than a romance, imo.
Idk if anyone else has mentioned this couple, but JayHalf felt pretty forced during Sign of the Moon, and it has always felt as such to me since. All that book felt like with Jay's chapters just felt like more fanservice to the JayHalf fans and it was grating to read, considering the fact that it was unnecessary to make the characters feel OOC in the process throughout the book, especially Jayfeather and even Half Moon too, I think.

I completely forgot about Jayfeather x Half Moon I REALLY don't get that pairing.
