- - WhisperClan
hi there! this isn't meant to be some full-fledged, fancy clan, but i don't want it to be some lawless place, either. think of this as more of a semi jump-in where there's more guidance and details, but the overall atmosphere is still relaxed. there will be some basic territory descriptions, an overall plot, and a few rules to abide by, but other than that it's a free for all here and i do hope you enjoy it!
- - -
RULES i. no powers or unnatural looking cats please ii. please keep genders even iii. a prefix may only be used once at a time iv. lgbtqa+ are wholeheartedly welcome v. no need to be on every day, but reliable activity would be nice
- - -
JOINING just a basic description like you'd find in the books is all i ask for. do designate what rank your character is. you may add any extra information that you'd like. deputy rank will become open at some point in the role-play, so if you're interested in that position please let me know. currently not accepting apprentices.

TERRITORY whisperclan territory is made up mostly of rolling prairie land, flat and untamed; however, there are patches of woodland dotting throughout the territory to make for a fine mix of diversity within the territory and other animals that coexist with the clan. im not basing the territory on any specific area, so prey wise and predator wise anything goes. want your cat to run into a wolf? go ahead! want some chickadees on the menu? fine by me. camp. a heavily protected set of tunnels underneath the ground out in the prairie. the stream. the most popular area for cats to get fresh water near camp. thicket. a patch of woodland in the eastern area of the territory. flatstones. an area of large, flattened rocks north of camp. star cave. a deep set of tunnels southwest to camp. this is where medicine cats go to communicate with starclan.
- - -
PLOT the last four seasons have beenharsh.there has been little rain, causing random dust storms to sweep across the land. the grass is dry, everything is drying up and withering away. prey is scarce, and now even cats are starting to succumb to the drought. cats are afraid to start families in these conditions, the youngest cats now senior apprentices. it seems as if the very land is trying to drive the whisperclan cats away, and just when a much needed storm full of rain rolls through, all hope is lost when instead of the storm being the clan's saving grace, lightning starts a devastating fire that causes the last remaining survivors of whisperclan to make a difficult decision - stay in the home that has been theirs for generations, or flee and hope the world outside their niche has mercy on them.

The morning started off as dry as ever.
That's how every morning had been for the past four seasons. Terribly dry and much too warm; the air was still and nothing seemed to want to move, not even the cats that made up WhisperClan. It was like the dry stillness made moving hard, made even breathing hard. Nothing wanted to do anything, and quite frankly, Applestar didn't blame them. She hated seeing her cats so slow and unmotivated, but she had come to the hard realization that there was nothing she could do about the weather. She hated the fact that her Clan was growing weak, and that even she herself was starting to succumb to the pressure of it all, but she had to push through. She was strong. She was strong and so was WhisperClan.
The leader was pulled out of her thoughts when she noticed the morning patrol that consisted of Hareleap, Heatherstorm, and Chickenflight returning to camp. Her heart fell when she noticed none of the cats had returned with prey.
Hareleap only deepened the disappointment when he padded over to report to Applestar. "We couldn't even catch a single scent of anything out there," he sighed. "And the ground is only getting drier. I'm not even sure how much longer the stream will be able to hold up."
That had been a worry for Applestar for a long time now. The stream had somehow provided water thus far, but with each passing day it seemed to grow smaller and smaller... Applestar sighed. "We can't give up now, though. Surely this dry spell will lift soon. StarClan can't withhold a good rainfall forever." Or she hoped. She could see her own doubts reflected in Hareleap's gaze, but the tabby tom said nothing as he turned and walked away, Heatherstorm and Chickenflight still at the deputy's side.
Applestar only continued to feel her heart sink as she watched the trio walk off into the heart of camp. Please, StarClan, WhisperClan needs your help more than ever right now.

𝐇𝐚𝐳𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 thank you so much for joining! there's no length requirement or anything like that here, so you're more than welcome to jump on in! i think it would be really fun for Flurrypaw and Applestar to be sisters if you're open to that idea!
(That sounds great! c: I bet they’re both really happy that they have each other, since I would imagine that they lost quiet a few family members due to all the misfortunes. :c One of my warriors is also very open to mentor Antpaw! I really wish I could get started but it’s super late and I need to get some sleep. D: I would love to start tomorrow though!)

awesome! and yeah, there's been a lot of death recently, and I'm sure that's made Apple pretty protective over Flurry these last couple of moons. they're relationship is gonna be really fun to flesh out! and if you have any other suggestions on relations, i'm totally open to hear i'll put Crowhop as Antpaw's mentor if that's fine with you! that's fine, sleep is totally more important c; can't wait to kick this off tomorrow!!

The gray tabby had just been about to part ways from Hareleap and Chickenflight when a familiar voice grabbed her attention. Her ears swiveled forward as she recognized Moonshadow. She had to admit to the fact that she wasn't in the best of moods, not after the complete failure of the patrol she had just come back from. The territory was dry, there had been no prey whatsoever, and now the stream seemed to finally be withering away. Things were looking even worse than they had been in the past seasons, and even Heatherstorm had to come clean and say she was worried. It frustrated her that she couldn't do a single thing about all of this. Usually when a problem arose she would attack it straight on with claws unsheathed and fangs bared, but she couldn't exactly go into battle against a drought. For as impulsive as she was, even she could step back and think that through and realize what the results would be.
Despite everything, though, she let out a sigh and decided the best course of action right now would be to respond to her fellow warrior. She was annoyed with the current state of things, but she shouldn't take it out on her Clanmates who had to be just as fed up with everything as she was.
Moonshadow's question was answered first with a shrug as Heatherstorm padded over. "About as good as any cat can be in this weather," she replied with a huff. "Unfortunately there's nothing to be overly excited about."

Heatherstorm couldn't help but narrow her eyes at the other molly's cheerful nature. How could a cat be so peppy about all of this? The land was drying up and cats were dying of starvation and dehydration. Things weren't exactly at their greatest right now. Surely Moonshadow could see that. "What's there to be pulled up about then?" She questioned perhaps a bit too sharply. She wasn't in the mood to be all butterflies and rainbows right now. "Being cheerful isn't going to get us through this." If anything being perky was just another thing to add onto Heatherstorm's list of ever growing nuisances. She had no problem with Moonshadow, Heatherstorm just...didn't think it was in the right place to be so cheerful given the circumstances the Clan was facing.
Moonshadow was getting a bit annoyed, but she tried to handle. “Well, if we’re even more bad about things then we already are, we’ll die. Now we would be thankful for being alive,” she mewled through her bare teeth. She got this was hard, but they couldn’t be sad about it! They had to push through with a good attitude.

Sure, she could understand the fact that a warrior needed to keep a positive outlook on things, but that was getting harder by the day, by the minute really. And after coming back from a patrol that had been anything but fruitful, Heatherstorm just wasn't in the mood to look at things on the bright side. "I'm not ungrateful that I'm alive, but I'm just saying now isn't the time to be like some naive apprentice. Things are bad, Moonshadow, and we can't continue to parade around camp as if nothing is wrong." Heatherstorm was trying not to get too snappy, but she could feel her ears wanting to lay back against her head and her tail-tip was starting to give a few annoyed flicks against the ground. She was already known as a cat with a sharp temper and a fiery spirit. Heatherstorm wasn't exactly one to be tested.
Moonshadow finally got angry. She wasn’t a perky apprentice, she was a warrior trying to survive. She pinned her ears back and flipped her tail around. “Look, I know you aren’t the happiest cat here, but it’s for the apprentices,” she hissed between her bare teeth. “Do you want them to be like that?! They do what we do. We’re not angry, they’re not angry. Okay?” Moonshadow explained. Moonshadow wasn’t sure if Heatherstorm could argue against the apprentices’ giant, fearful, sad eyes, but she knew she wouldn’t.

pssh, heather's just a little hothead xD
Now that was probably the dumbest thing Heatherstorm had heard all day. For the apprentices? Really? And here she had thought Moonshadow at least had some sense in that thick skull of hers.
The gray tabby snorted, rolling her eyes, no longer hiding the annoyance that was coming off her in waves. "For the apprentices?" She asked through a hiss. "Moonshadow, the apprentices are almost warriors now, and we can't treat them like they're kits. Surely they have enough sense to realize they can act without following our every pawstep." Seriously, there was no reason to hide anything from the apprentices, not when the youngest of them were now almost at the age to become warriors.
There was a long moment of Heatherstorm glaring toward the other molly, fur bristling ever so slightly. She shook her head, letting out a huff. "Besides, it's not like they don't already know what's going on as it is," she pointed out. Any cat could see how bad things were right now. That wasn't a secret in the slightest.
Moonshadow was getting MAD. Heatherstorm had pretty much just said, who cares about your apprentice? “Uh, they look up to us, Heatherstorm! And Hazelpaw is a new apprentice, Heatherstorm!” Moonshadow hissed. Hazelpaw had obviously seen the tension between the two cats, and wandered over. “Moonshadow, is everything okay?” She asked, her voice squeaking. If warriors would calm down it would be, Moonshadow bitterly thought. “Just stop acting like this is the worst thing ever! It’s not! Right now, it’s the best, because we”re alive, we’ve made it this far, and I’m not going to give up one bit of hope.”

"I'm well aware that they look up to us," the gray tabby pointed out. "But we really haven't had any new apprentices in moons. Most are just a few training sessions away from becoming warriors, and warriors make their own decisions." She could have had said more, but she stopped when Hazelpaw padded over. Even if she was as annoyed as she was, she couldn't quite take it out on the younger molly. Hazelpaw hadn't been the one to step on Heatherstorm's last nerve, after all.
With the appearance of the apprentice, Heatherstorm did manage to calm down if even just a smidge. It wasn't much, but she was able to flatten her fur and take in a deep breath to keep her from unsheathing her claws. "I wasn't asking for you to give up your hope," she mewed in a voice calmer than before but still laced with the fiery annoyance she had flowing through her. "This is one of the worst things we've had to deal with, maybe not in all of the Clan's history, but for us this isn't suitable. Cats are hungry, thirsty, and snappy, and that makes it hard for me to be happy about that." Maybe that would at least calm Moonshadow down a bit. If anything Heatherstorm hoped it would keep claws from being unsheathed.
Moonshadow kept unsheathing and sheathing her claws to warn Heatherstorm. “Come on, Hazelpaw,” Moonshadow hissed, her eyes narrowing at Heatherstorm. “But-“ Hazelpaw started. “Hazelpaw,” Moonshadow bitterly said, flicking her tail.

A huff came from the gray tabby as she continued to stare Moonshadow down. She noticed the other molly unsheathing and sheathing her claws, a clear indication that she wasn't exactly in a good mood anymore either. But that was okay. If anything Heatherstorm was willing to let this little incident slide. She had nothing against Moonshadow in the long run, and she'd hate to be the one to give the other female a scarred ear because she couldn't stop herself from cuffing it. Times were tough, and adding infighting into the mix would only make things worse. Heatherstorm was rash, but she could at least think things through from time to time.
She remained silent, copper eyes watching Moonshadow and Hazelpaw for a moment more. There wasn't anything else for her to say, and she was sure if she let herself speak again she'd be unable to calm herself down like she had just done. Perhaps it was better to let things settle between her and the other warrior before trying to start anything else with her for now.

Heatherstorm's ear gave a twitch at the sound of Moonshadow's voice. For a second she wondered if the other warrior wasn't quite done arguing just yet, her body already growing tense with the potential onslaught of a new quarrel, but instead she was met with a calmer tone of voice. Moonshadow didn't sound completely over the whole thing, but it was better than an outright snap.
The gray tabby relaxed. She was still annoyed, albeit not as much as she had been earlier, but she was able to hold her tongue and keep from sparking any new flames. "It's nothing," she replied with a nonchalant shrug. Heatherstorm looked away from the other female. There really wasn't anything more for her to say, and by keeping her response short she was certain nothing that could be taken the wrong way would slip out.
