So....I noticed during my reading of MV/PC/TR/CP that there are a lot of in-battle deaths/near-deaths. Like seriously. Birchface and his apprentice Flowerpaw got killed due to Appledusk (this was most likely an accident though). In Pinestar's Choice, Pinestar is saddened and states how he hates have to watching Clanmates die in battles over borders and whatnot. Tallstar says to Jake that if he hadn't left WindClan he would've killed an opponent in battle by then. Shrewclaw and Brackenwing die horribly in a fight against ShadowClan. Tall and Shrew also try and brutalize Cedarstar. In Crookedstar's Promise, TC and RC are make comments about how they're gonna bathe the rocks with the other Clan's blood, and Hailstar kinda just goes into a daze and almost kills Reedfeather.
I don't know, I just thought it was strange since killing is not considered very honourable, according to the Code (correct me if I'm wrong), unless the cat is outside the Code or as a last resort. They (sort of) toned down the battle deaths after TPB, but I don't really mind the deadly fights, it makes the Clans seem more like the animals they are, if that makes sense.
(PS: Merry Xmas! <3)

Actually the current clans are more true to real life animals. Most animal fights are just a lot of bluster and bluff, actually getting to a lethal fight is rare due to risk of injury on both parts, so often scuffles aren't really serious.
Still, I agree, it adds far more tension.
