in a galaxy not so far away, the force is at work
◌ INTRODUCTION ◌
For the sake of brevity, here is what the roleplay is about: The main inspiration for this story is obviously star wars. There will be jedi and sith and lightsabers and space ships. But we wanted to do something that was a bit more accessible to everyone and didn't require a ton of star wars knowledge. For that reason, it will take place on earth, more specifically during ancient times. We thought it would be fun if we imagined how the ancient cultures (greek, roman, egyptian, chinese, etc) would have interacted if they had access to greater technologies. It's essentially a war/intrigue roleplay but instead of fighting with swords, they get lightsabers. It won't be very historically accurate and it won't be very faithful to star wars lore. The main idea is to have fun and do something a bit bizarre!
For the record, all characters and plots in this roleplay will be 100% original. We will not be using historical figures nor star wars characters.

◌ EXPECTATIONS ◌
- 1. This is a semi-advanced to advanced roleplay. There's a time and a place for short responses, but this is not that place. Please expect to write several paragraphs for each reply!
- 2. Don't be a stickler for lore/history. I'm going to be honest, I am not a star wars nerd. I don't know everything about the world and have no intention of being fully accurate. It's great if you are and want to join this roleplay! But if I remember correctly, George Lucas created Star Wars with the intention of being accessible to all kinds of people. All I ask is that this roleplay is approached with a bit of creativity and openness.
- 3. Please use unique characters! No real people from history or canonical characters. But you're obviously allowed to draw inspiration from either.
- 4. Follow the forum rules, be nice to people, yada yada yada
- 5. Stick around for as long as you can! I understand that it's a busy time of year and muses change or whatever. So you're forgiven if you poof. But please don't join with no intention of contributing to the rp.

in a galaxy not so far away, the force is at work
◌ BACKGROUND ◌
Preface: 500 years before the story begins, the planet Earth was predominantly occupied by the Jedi. It was treated as a sanctuary for art, culture, music, and philosophy. Its many countries had strongholds and capitals dedicated to preserving the most precious aspects of humanity. But it was not long lived. An invasion of the Sith sparked dozens of wars across the ancient world. Entire cities were sacked and burned to the ground. Palaces were pillaged and ships burned in their harbors. Today, it is a world divided. What once was a planet of peace has become one of war and conflict. The Jedi remain, but the are constantly antagonized by the growing power of the Sith.
- Rome: The predominant power in the Mediterranean is the Sith. The militarized empire has spread like wildfire throughout the western world. Small populations of Jedi can be found, but they live largely in secret. The powerful figures of Rome wish to continue expanding, with little regard of those in their wake.
- Northern Europe: Following the invasion of the Sith, many Jedi escaped to the colder regions of northern Europe. There they were able to find allies in the Vikings, and expand their number. They remain now mostly where the Sith cannot reach them, but they are gathering numbers in hopes of putting up a fight. That being said, certain Sith have infiltrated the northern regions and it is questionable whether the battle will ever move south.
- Egypt: At this point, Egypt is largely controlled by Rome. That being said, it is one of the oldest areas that was once held by the Jedi. Many remain, some even strong enough to maintain control without the interference of the empire.
- Other: There are many other important civilizations in the ancient world such as the Chinese, the Maya, and countless others. Some have Sith or Jedi among their ranks, but others remain untouched.

◌ EXTRAS ◌
Plot: The main plot centers around the conflicts between the Viking Jedi and Roman Sith. They have recently declared war against each other, and our characters are caught in the crossfire. Subplots will be added if/when we think of them.
Things to note:
1. Non-human characters are welcome. If you want to make a character from a different planet, go right ahead. They can come from a race from the canonical world, or one that you've made up. 2. If your character comes from a region that is controlled by either the Sith or the Jedi, they don't have to belong to that group. If you want to do something unexpected, go for it! 3. We're gonna play fast and loose with history. There are going to be space ships. So, like, you have my permission to get crazy.

Hey man given that vikings came after the roman empire fell, would it be feasible for me to have a character that is a knight from what is essentially medieval europe? I'm not quite sure how much land this version of rome has conquered, so I'm uncertain if it'd even be plausible for medieval europe to exist]

Okay first of all, as an avid Star Wars and ancient history fan, I feel like I gotta join this. Second, I’m about to go work on my characters but before I do that, am I allowed to make a bounty hunter type? Or a Jedi that isn’t viking? Also this looks really cool btw)

[ Woohoo! Welcome! Absolutely, both of those ideas are great. You can pretty much make any type of character you want. I just gave the backgrounds of the various regions to have some sort of structure, but beyond that peeps can get creative. And thank you! 𝕾𝖙𝖔𝖗𝖒𝖗𝖆𝖌𝖊 gets most of the credit because star wars vikings were her idea initially <3 ]

◌ MARCUS SEPTIMIUS LECTOR ◌
ROME // eveningAs the sun waned, and the sky was stained with red, the rumbling of ships sounded across Rome. Marcus Septimius Lector’s sprawling house sat at the top of Palatine Hill. From there he watched, under the cover of his portico, as dozens of ships appeared on the horizon. Each arrived in an instant, in a flash of white light.
“Twenty six, twenty seven…” he counted under his breath. His dark eyes searched the sky, seeking the final three ships. They didn’t come. The rumbling sound of engines lulled, replaced only by an eerie silence. He leaned his weight against the nearest column.
“Your excellency, Legion VI has returned from Norway.”
Lector’s gaze stayed trained on the sky. He toyed with the ring on his right index finger, spinning it around and around.
“Your excellency?”
At last he looked to the droid. It stood six or seven feet away, its mechanical face unreadable, frozen in a mask of blemishless gold.
“Thank you, DXIII,” he said simply. He watched as the droid bent into a bow, then retreated inside. Lector waited several long moments before following. Aided by his scepter, he walked along the portico in the direction of the atrium. From a distance, he might be mistaken for an old man. His gait was arrhythmic and his back slightly hunched. His lean body, though broad shouldered, was teetering on too thin. His face, however, betrayed his age. Young still, especially for a man of his wealth and station. Handsome, perhaps, though not in the way his marble portraits would suggest.
As he walked, he heard a spaceship pass overhead. Various droids and slaves bustled about. A female lyre player looked up from her strumming, her delicate robes flitting in the evening breeze. Her lips drew into an alluring smile at the sight of the Emperor. He returned the gesture through a half hearted tightening of the lips.
He was greeted by Julius Severus, a Senator. The older man quickened his pace to match the long, jolting strides of the Emperor. He breathed loudly from his mouth as if he had run up the hill in a hurry. “Twenty seven of the ships returned, my liege.”
“Yes,” responded Lector in a clipped voice.
“You’re displeased?” inquired Severus in a high-pitched voice. “I would have thought twenty-seven would thrill your excellency. Only three were lost. The Senate projected upwards of four could be brought down by the northerners, your grace. Casualties against the Vikings could have been much w-” the senator trailed off, uncomfortable in the Emperor’s silence.
Lector refused to put the old man’s mind at ease. The point of his scepter continued clicking along the mosaic floor. Eventually he remarked, “Six months of these attacks and our numbers only wither. How many Viking ships did we destroy? It seems that each time we wage battle against them, their strength only multiplies. If the Senate were to practice restraint, perhaps we could think of a more measured plan of att-”
“The Senate will not.” Severus responded mindlessly. When he realized the severity of his tone, he whimpered slightly.
“Leave me,” demanded Lector. If he had looked back, he would have seen Severus stand still for several moments before scampering back down the hall, chin tucked and eyes sharpened.
By the time he reached the atrium, which was on the other side of the house, several men were waiting. They were scattered about the large room. One was seated on a bench and nursing a wound to his arm. Blood stained the white robes under his armor. Two others, standing with lightsabers in hand, looked up upon the entrance of the Emperor.
“Emperor Lector,” one of them sputtered. “We’ve returned from Norway. Our retreat was swift, so there is no way of knowing the number of casualties until we count the remaining men.”
“Is Cerularius among you?” inquired the Emperor. He searched the young faces for the familiar visage of his primus pilus.
