Hello, and welcome to The OTD Pagans Thread (TOPT). This is, of course a place for followers of Pagan belief to chat, share, and learn from one another. It's not in any way exclusive to just followers of one or two things, however. Anyone is welcome to converse and learn from one another in a respectful manner. Even people questioning their beliefs, people who are just spiritual and don't follow any path, people who just want magical resources to study, or simply wanting to know more about the paths and about the people who follow a different way of thinking. So what is Paganism? The word pagan as it is used in this thread refers to a follower of any religion that is not one of the Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism, or Islam). Frequently this means the followers of native Earth-based religions. Today, the term is used as a self-identification for people who seek to revive and liive in those ways. Paganism is just as diverse, if not far more so than it's Abrahamic counterpart. And today with new branches of Pagan belief still sprouting up, continues to grow and develop into many paths, and the revival of others, such as Wicca, Hinduism, Shamanism, Celtic polytheism, Asatru, Heathenism, Kemetcism, and many, many, many more. Some Pagans do magic, some don't. Some are Polytheistic, and some are Monotheistic. Some may mix-and-match Gods and Goddesses and the mythology of many religions, possibly even including Abrahamic ones. 1. Respecting the Earth and the things that dwell on it. 2. That we are here to teach and learn from one another. 3. We are following the path we were meant for and honoring our deities or ourselves. This thread also accepts anyone unaffiliated with religion or spirituality who just do magic and are only here to learn. You do not necessarily have to be pagan to be here. RULES OF THE THREAD: Forum rules are to be respected, as always. Read Them Here Questioning is always welcome. Making fun of someone for not knowing something or asking something to purposely fight about it is not. Keep swearing to a minimum, and definitely don't swear at other people here. Fighting and ridicule won't be tolerated AT ALL. Conversation is open, it doesn't always have to be about paganism. This is only a place to find friends. If someone has a problem with a user or situation in the thread, bring it up with me or the mods. Have a blessed day.
If you want to be on this list, just say so, tell us the path you follow, and maybe a few details about it. KEY: X - Active Member X - Hiatus/Unknown X - Inactive Member

The Pagan holidays across most traditions and practices are known as being the days of the Equinoxes or Solstices, and known by several different names. Here, however, I will mention only the most popular and basic 8. Some paths have more, some have less, and some go by the same holiday under a different name. These are the most common you will hear about under Wicca and Eclectic Paganism. Note that some of these links have more information than others, these were simply the best I could find for each. Glad to have it back, honestly. I really need to get into the swing of things. I've kinda ignored anything spiritual for so long it feels foreign again and that hasn't really been good for me emotionally.
I'm currently reading my own tarot but it's just turning into getting myself roasted. Thanks, deck.

Wow, really?? That long?? And pretty good timing, tbh. I bought myself some new crystals today, and I’m considering buying some tarot cards.
So, how have you been??

I wouldn't consider Hinduism to be a form of paganism.
Paganism has a lot of interpretive aspects to it. So does Hinduism, but its very structured in terms of scriptures, religious institutions, and practices, holidays, etc. You can't pick and choose fundamentals without inherently making it something else.
Its like how Greek/Roman mythology is not paganism (in the new usage of the word), yet they're not Abrahamic at all.
Also jeez, I could only imagine how much trouble someone could have gotten into for making a thread like this on the old forums.

Thats why I explained paganism in the broader term. Because it is. Pagan doesnt mean "not a part of organized religion" it just means someone who isnt abrahamic.
And yeah, these threads wouldnt have been allowed before but they are here. Though I do remember a semi-spiritual thread back in 2014 i was in for a little bit. Most of that one was just. "im having a hard time, pray for me" though.

Odd timing; I just recently started to get back into my more "spiritual" side, if that makes any sense.

Heck, I just realized most of my crystals and candles and stuff are in the garage...>.> Most of mine are at my mum’s place :/ I found a new age store about ten minutes from my apartment, though, so I’m starting to build up my collection again, but it’s annoying not having my full collection. I’ve got a real nice chunk of Amethyst at home that I’m missing pretty keenly at the moment.

I just finished unpacking most of mine from the move.
My new closet has also been perfect for an altar space because its got this weird kind of step up cubby thing and a low shelf. So I've put a bunch of books and things on it and put the rest of my supplies in the cubby.

Ooh, that sounds very nice! I wish I had convenient altar space. I just have to arrange all my stuff across my shelves.

I barely even have space in my room for my own feet, let alone an altar

I recently began checking out Buddhism after someone from my college invited me to a meeting last week, and I might go to another one tomorrow if I'm feeling well enough to go.

I never did get to go to the one temple in town that I wanted to. Tell me how it goes and what it's like! The only buddhist i know doesnt openly talk about so it would be great to know some firsthand things.

The type of Buddhism that I'm referring to is Nichiren, which basically focuses on individual empowerment and inner transformation in order to be happy in life. According to the person who's basically the leader of my local branch, they consider it to be a bit more like a philosophy and it's possible for me to practice both Nichiren and another religion should I choose to. Practitioners chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo for a few minutes using beads in front of a Gohonzon with eyes open, and it apparently costs $50 to become an official member, but that's more for the subscriptions (such as newspapers) they give out.

That's pretty cool and versatile. Some branches of the satanic church do that too from what I know. Honestly individual empowerment is just a basic useful life skill. It's one of the things my therapist drilled me on the most because I used to be always so self-defeating and a pushover. That's probably why I like it so much. Right now I'm doing work with my shadow self. Trying to just come to terms with some of the worst facts about myself nobody else knows and bring them out safely. It's led to a lot of uncomfortable conversations with some of my closest friends as well as uplifting ones.

I'm trying to work on it myself as well, and I'm hoping that Buddhism will help me with that as well and I'm glad individual empowerment is helping you too. Also, there's a book I got last week after the meeting called The Winning Life: An Introduction to Buddhist Practice if you want to learn more. It cost $1:00 at the center, but you can actually download the full PDF on their website or just watch the video. www.sgi-usa.org/memberresources/introducebuddhism/winninglife/index.php
