welcome to panthera. this role-play is a shifter based role-play. two kingdoms, oncia & leogris, lay within the lands of panthera. panthera used to be one kingdom, but many centuries ago, a war broke out between the feline shifters. the leopards and jaguars on one side of it all, while lions and tigers were on the other. no one knows, at least the story has seemingly faded into history, as to why the war broke out in the first place. however, it doesn't change history that there was in fact a war, with many losses and more than it's fair share of blood shed. ever since then, the hatred between the kingdoms still thrives centuries later. each kingdom has their respected royal family, each kingdom has been taught that they will forever hate their neighbors. they know they will forever share panthera but they will never come to terms of peaces or agreement to become one kingdom, ever again. there has been no war since the great war five centuries ago, and the terms of their agreements have remained civil. no fights, besides common disagreements at royal meetings. however, something seems to be stirring between the two feline kingdoms, there is a sense of restlessness, but why?
roleplay status -- this is an one x one between Feathertalon & appzy
all ideas in this role-play are feathz & i. we do not claim credit to feline shifters but we do for the names of the kingdom and the characters within them. the formatting is mine. the banner is from a friend.

Alice Sondai princess of leogris
There had once been a time when the idea of being Leogris’s next queen was appealing. That had been years ago, though, back when Alice had been young, naive, and simple minded. Back then the role of queen had been nothing more than a fancy title that actually stood for “can do whatever she wants”. Back then in her young mind doing whatever she wanted meant staying up way later than her bedtime, being able to eat as many sweets as her stomach could handle before eating the main course, or just simply being able to make and follow the rules she came up with and deemed necessary at that particular time. But over the years, over time that she had spent learning more about the deep rooted ideologies of politics and understanding that the world wasn’t as simple as her young mind had once thought, she had learned that being a monarch wasn’t at all like that. Instead of being reassured that being next in line to the throne was freeing, Alice Sondai had found that it was actually quite the opposite, and she hated it. She knew deep down that she should be lucky that, if anything, she had been born into the Leogris Kingdom’s royal family. When it came to the reigning family of Leogris the rules were a bit more slack than that of the Oncia Kingdom. In the land where tigers and lions ruled supreme daughters of the king and queen could ascend to the throne; across the borders in Oncia that wasn’t so much the case. Alice didn’t know where the rules went wrong there, but only male children of the monarchs could ever take over the throne. In her current predicament, though, Alice supposed her own kingdom’s allowance on female heirs was both a blessing and a curse. It was a blessing in the sense that Alice was an only child. Even after having wanted another child or two, Alice’s mother had never been able to have more than just her daughter. Had they been the Oncian monarchy Astoria’s inability to produce a male child would have been a terrible outcome. A close relative would have been chosen to ascend to the throne, or, if the worst had to happen, Alice’s father would potentially be pressed to seek out another wife that could produce a male heir. Luckily that would never be the case for Leogris. Yet all of that was a curse in that Alice had to be the one to take the throne, she couldn’t just pass it off to some younger brother or sister. And so, instead of facing her destiny squarely and doing what was expected of her, Alice had made the incredibly stupid decision of running away from her chosen life path which was what led her to where she was currently.
The gentle echo of crickets and frogs were already drifting through the darkening woods. Nightfall was still another hour or so away, but some of the night’s creatures were already stirring awake. Carrying the sound was a gentle breeze with a crispness about it that warned of a cold night. The skies were clear and open to the earth below, but not even that would cause a chill over the land to falter. Alice was in no rush to beat the night, but she knew she had to find some place to stay for the night before the temperature dropped too low. She could handle the night, the tiger inside her was well versed with the blanketing darkness, but it was the cold that urged her onward. And the fact that she hadn’t had a decent meal since last slipping away from her quarters within the castle and fleeing, taking with her a powerful bay roan Ardennes mare from one of the stables. It was mostly the large draft horses that the shifters kept. They were large and sturdy, and they had the courage of even the bravest of lions. They never once shied away from the people that owned them like smaller horses would. Thoroughbreds, Arabians, and even horses such as Lipizzans would tend to shy away from the touch of a shifter, at least a predatory one. They were able to smell the predator within, making them hard to handle and even easier to spook. Draft horses weren’t as easily startled and handled themselves with a sense of bravery that was desired in a horse. By now she was sure even the powerful mare needed a break and some good food in her. Between that, Alice’s own hunger, and the encroaching cold, the crown princess of Leogris knew it was best to stop and seek out some form of shelter for the night.
So far in her travels she had been lucky in that nobody she had come across during her travels had interrogated her beyond simple questions that she had simple answers for. If she continued laying low and not drawing any attention to herself then she could get away from everything she had grown up around. She would make her own life out here, probably grow old in some old shack in the middle of the woods where nobody could find her and only coming out into civilization when she absolutely needed to. It didn’t sound all that appealing, but right now it was a lot better than anything she would have to deal with had she stayed in Leogris and became its queen.
After what had to be another fifteen or so minutes of riding the mare down a worn path Alice could see that the trees were thinning and a faint light was flickering up ahead. She drew in the mare’s reigns to get her to slow down. Perhaps there was a small village or town up ahead that she could stop at for the night. Alice had seen a few more people going up and down this particular path on their own steeds, and coming upon what seemed to be an occupied building outside of what she was assuming to be a town was a reason for the heavier traffic.
As the tiger shifter neared, she looked the place over with a quick sweep of her amber gaze. Already there was a good amount of horses tied up to posts outside the building, and upon further inspection Alice realized she had traveled straight to what looked to be a tavern or, even better, a small inn. A faint smile pulled at her lips; luck was on her side for the night it seemed. She could stop here, grab a meal, and then ask around if there were any nearby places she could stay for the night or if there were any rooms here for her, and by the looks of it this place was a good one to stop at if it already had this many people so early on into the night.
Before long she had stopped the mare near one of the empty posts and quickly got herself up and out of the saddle and down onto the ground. She gave a quick stretch, body weary from all the traveling she had done as of recent, and once she had her horse secured she made her way inside the inn.
Immediately she was greeted by the sounds of chatter and the smells of food and alcohol. For anybody looking to stop somewhere that wasn’t busy, this wasn’t the place to be at all, but Alice found it comforting. She had always enjoyed social interaction, and while she had grown fond of the horse she had stolen from the stables, she couldn’t quite hold conversation with the equine. A bummer, really, she was sure the horse had a lot of interesting tales to tell.
Talking to her horse aside, Alice focused her attention on what she had come here to do.
Far enough inside the Oncia territory, Alice felt comfortable that nobody would know who she was. As she made her way to the bar, she pulled the hood down off her head that she had been using to obscure her face a bit better than just going out there without anything. She gave a light shake of her head, letting loose curls of her dark hair go free after having been cramped inside the hood for so long. After all be traveling it was nice to finally let herself go and feel a bit more like a person again instead of some runaway. Which, yeah, she was a runaway, and she had made herself one, but that didn’t mean she had to enjoy the whole feeling of it. Getting away from her role as queen was freeing in and of itself, but that didn’t make the overall feel of running away any easier.
Pushing away the complaints of her whole ordeal, Alice focused her attention back on the bar, leaning up against it and letting herself relax ever so slightly upon its edge. She cast an amber gaze around, checking out the nearby people that inhabited the inn. Mostly common folk that had come in after a hard day of work was what Alice could gather from the initial sweep around the area now that she was situated in one spot. In the shadows of the corners she could make out men and women that seemed to hold higher ranks than just the typical worker. Alice couldn’t help but pull her lips up in the faintest of smirks at the sight. While this particular inn and tavern - she had never actually stopped to look and figure out the name - didn’t seem too shabby, it sure wasn’t a high class, elite one, either. It was still an establishment in which people of high ranking would feel ashamed about if they were caught inside. That was why they were lurking more in the shadows, but they still weren’t doing a very good job of remaining uncovered. Perhaps they had tried to make themselves look more like a commoner, but there were still signs of them being above all that - the way they moved, the way they held themselves. The signs were all there. Alice had spent her whole life in the presence of high ranking personnel, she knew one when she saw one.
”What can I get’cha?”
The voice startled Alice back into reality. She turned, amber eyes instinctively narrowing as they landed on a gruff looking older woman. Despite the roughness to her she seemed pleasant enough, welcoming and easy going, but Alice could already tell that this bartender was not one to anger lest you end up on the losing side.
With a quick movement Alice took out a few coins. She didn’t even make an effort to count how many she had pulled out, but she knew it was more than enough to cover whatever she was given. Alice didn’t bring a lot of money with her, but her definition of “not a lot” was completely different than most. She very well had more coins on her right now than every person in this inn made in a payday. ”Give me your most popular,” she responded as she placed the coins on the counter for the woman to take. ”And would there be any open rooms by any chance?” She inquired.
This certainly caught the bartender’s eye. Alice noticed how she eyed the coins with a hunger she couldn’t hide. Though the bartender didn’t let this get the better of her as instead of snatching the coins away like it seemed like she had wanted to, she reached out and picked them up into her grasp in a gentle manner. ”I’ll get that right out for you.” She then shook her head, a look of pity crossing her features before something like amusement flashed in her green gaze. ”’Fraid we’re booked for the night, but there’s a few places not too far down the trail that welcome weary travelers into their homes, and if that fails,” she turned to grab a mug from a nearby counter, ”come back here and we might have something open then. Can’t remember going a night without some fool getting thrown out.” She then handed Alice the mug after filling it with what she presumed to be some type of ale. ”I’ll get the food right out.”
”Thanks,” Alice murmured, taking the mug into her hand and pulling it toward her, taking an experimental drink before deciding it was alright enough in taste that she would go ahead and drink it. She was a bit bummed at the fact that the inn was already booked for the night, but she could make do. The bartender seemed honest enough when she mentioned friendly and welcoming people open to travelers down the road, and there had been nothing but truth in her words when she explained that there would be an open room within the coming hours if all else failed for Alice. She could handle that.
It wasn’t too much longer before the bartender came back with what looked to be some kind of stew for the runaway princess of Leogris. Once again Alice thanked the older woman for her work and quickly wolfed down the meal and drink. Now that her hunger had been taken care of, Alice decided she needed to resume her journey. Night was now upon the land, and as she stepped outside she couldn’t stop a shiver from passing through her as a chilled breeze danced through the air. If she wanted to get out of this cold before it really got to her she needed to find a welcoming house soon.
Alice was quick to mount back onto her horse - who she really needed to think up a name for. Luckily somebody had set out hay for the horses while she had been inside the inn, and the roan mare seemed much perkier and ready for another ride down the trail now that her own hunger had been sated. Taking the reins she had untied from the post into her hands, Alice clicked for the mare to start walking. Once at a steady pace, Alice pulled her hood back up over her head and bundled into herself as much as she could, determined to get out of the night and into somewhere warm before the temperature dropped even lower.

Fallon Ayres apart of grayson's trusted inner circle - ♕ - she overcame everything that was meant to destroy her.
“Why though?” She stood there with her arms crossed over her chest, her ponytail disheveled and her face in a perpetual scowl. She was thirteen and already had more than enough attitude to fill the entire room. A larger male was standing in front of her, he was clad in armor and his face wore a mask of little patience. His hand was on his hip where a considerable sword laid, hanging in a dark sheath.
“Fallon. Don’t test my patience,” his words were clipped as he looked down at her; she was just a little thing and her head was tilted back in defiance. “He’s busy, you shouldn’t even be bothering the prince during his lessons anyway.” Fallon stomped her foot with frustration and turned on her heels, throwing a vulgar gesture in the knight’s direction. He let out a bare laugh, the only thing that broke his bleak façade, and paired it with a quick shake of his head. It was probably due to the fact that a thirteen-year-old royal should not be throwing that kind of words or gestures, but of course, she was never doing what she was supposed to, never doing what a lady was supposed to.
Just as Fallon turned on her heels, the door opened behind the knight. A boy walked out, his copper eyes landing on the girl. He had messy black hair that fell over his forehead and a sharp jawline that looked almost unreal on a kid his age; he looked aged, older than he was. “Cousin,” he purred as the door shut behind him, clearly ignoring the calls of his name behind him.
Fallon’s cool blue eyes filtered over his shoulder to the door, where muffled shouts came from. A wicked smile pulled at her lips, “ditching already?”
The sixteen-year-old boy let out a chuckle, “I simply came out here to see what the commotion was. It is hard to pay attention to my lessons when someone is right outside the door causing havoc.” His copper eyes danced with laughter and his lips were pulled into a small smile. Just as Fallon opened up her mouth to dispute his accusations, the door swung open.
“Prince Grayson, your lesson is not over.” The stern voice belonged to the lady standing in the doorway. She was dressed in a simple black and white suit, tailored to her feminine body, her arms crossed over her small chest. Her face wore an expression of utter annoyance, but it hardly fazed the two younger children standing in the hallways. The knight had his head duck from the exposing smile that was pulling at his lips. The lady casted a sideways glance at the knight, scoffing at him.
“Maggie, I am aware that it is not over,” Grayson said lazily as he met her fierce gaze. An apathetic smile laid on his face; Fallon was quite the opposite, a dangerous grin lit up her girlish features. Her own black hair was pulled into a ponytail and it bounced back and forth as she tilted her head in a mocking and almost rude way.
This caused Maggie to frown even deeper, which only made Fallon purr with excitement. “Be careful, your face might get stuck like that,” the black-haired girl laughed as he turned on her heels, giving a derisive wave of her fingers to the tutor and a wink towards Grayson, who was already on his way through the door without another word to the three in the hallway.
“Why do you always antagonize everyone?” A small voice came as Fallon rounded the corner. She almost slammed right into a boy, his dirty blonde hair looked like a mop on his head and his eyes wide with question.
She let out a huff as she came to a sudden stop in front of the boy, “I do not; I think those History and English lessons are pointless!” Biting her lip, she let out a sigh. “Don’t be a buzzkill, Beryl.”
“I’m not, I was just asking a question,” Beryl gave a quick shake of his head. He was younger than Grayson but older than Fallon and a lot more of a rule follower than either of them. He peered over her, given that he was already a good few inches taller than her, “have you seen Sapph?” In Beryl’s hands were of course several herbs. He loved learning medicine, but that was to be expected considering his mother was the royal medicine advisor for the court. He was always trying to learn new things.
“No, why would I? I’m not his mother nor am I his keeper,” Fallon rolled her eyes as she started to walk around the boy.
Beryl let out a dramatic sigh, clearly annoyed with her words and the bite that accompanied them, “why are you so wound tight today?”
Fallon ignored him and kept walking. She didn’t want to talk about it. It wasn’t like she came from a good life, no matter what people thought. Grayson knew, and of course Beryl and Sapphire knew but she still didn’t like to talk about it. Why would she want to talk about her abusive father and her weak mother? Why would she want anyone to know about the fact that she was shipped off to Oncia to possibly marry someone that would bring more attention to her own father’s kingdom? She had visited Oncia four times a year until this year, the year of her thirteenth birthday, when she was no longer welcomed back home until she found a suitable male. Basically, her father wanted someone to mount her, produce offspring to continue in his footsteps. Little did her father knew, regardless of the guards and spies he sent to watch over her, that she had no intention of ever returning to his kingdom and never intended to wed or love anyone. Ever.
“Ever since she permanently moved here, she’s been so sour,” a velvety voice came from behind them. Fallon peered over her shoulder and flung yet another vulgar gesture at the approaching male. A devilish smile broke out on his angular face. “Hi Beryl, heard you were looking for me.” The son of the infamous royal guard master looked deadly as he stood there, dressed in all black
Beryl just shook his head, “we have our lessons after Grayson’s, let’s not make Maggie any madder than she already is.” He casually looked at Fallon, who looked everywhere but at the medicine boy. Sapphire rolled his eyes before bidding a quick farewell to Fallon, who also ignored him just as she did Beryl. She was very clearly no longer in the mood.
She watched with her icy blue eyes as her two … best friends, yes, her best friends, walked down the hallway towards where she had just left. Luckily for her, her lessons were in the morning because she was a lady and would have to spend the rest of the day doing other things such a learning how to be, well, a lady. A thirteen-year-old girl shouldn’t have to live with these responsibilities, rules, and regulations but of course, she had little to no say in her future. She hated it; she often wished she was born into a lower-class family, but she knew that would come with its own set of problems. However, if that was the case, she never would have met Grayson, Beryl and Sapphire. She had no idea who they would truly mean to her as the years went on.
“Fallon, hey, Fallon,” a sharp jab to her rib pulled her out of consuming thoughts.
Fallon let out a quiet hiss as she stared at the male who jabbed her. “Was that necessary?” Her wild blue eyes focused on the familiar look of white-blonde-silver male. He wore his familiar devilish smirk as he shrugged, “you were pretty out of it for a moment there. I had to get your attention somehow.”
The male sitting across from them was watching them intently, “I tried to tell him not to touch you but why would he ever listen to me?” His warm gaze landed on Sapphire, who just offered another casual shrug.
“Why did you need my attention so desperately that you needed –” her voice trailed off as she noticed who Sapphire was looking at. Beryl remained facing them, his face down and his hair covering his gaze. He was trying to look inconspicuous, which only worked so much when you looked they did – immaculate, proper, and spoke with grandeur -- and you were in a tavern outside of the castle walls.
Grayson was away, visiting a neighboring kingdom with his mother. They had some business to attend to that the rest of them didn’t have the privilege of knowing. However, Grayson normally filled them in when he returned from such things but until then, the three of them were exploring the kingdom – keeping a watchful eye without announcing that they were from the royal court; they had made themselves look like they were simply higher class, those that lived inside the castle walls, but not literally inside the castle walls. They dressed in their diluted clothes, which were still nicer than most of Oncia subjects could afford.
Fallon narrowed her eyes as she watched the bar. A girl had walked in and right up to the bar. There was something about the newcomer that clearly made the boys curious. She tilted her head to the side, observing the female as she pulled back her hood; the girl’s dark hair become unruffled when the hood gave way. Fallon pursed her lips; her own silver hair was poised with soft curls.
Sapphire let out a low whistle as the girl laid a bunch of money onto the bar. It meant nothing to the three of them as they had their own amount of wealth, but it was surprising to see someone else display a fortune. “I haven’t seen her face in the walls,” he purred slightly, making the comment more about her fortune than her actual face. Most of them knew the high-class families or at least knew of them and she most certainly did not fit into any of them, or to be more specific, she didn’t look like she belonged to any one of them. So, the question was, who was she?
She was conversing with the bartender, but whatever she was told was not what she had been hoping for. This become apparent as she left the bar, soon after she finished her drink and food. With the girl making her way out of the tavern, Fallon got to her feet, and ignored the surprised look that Beryl gave her as the stool scooted across the wood floor. She gave both the boys a wicked smile and pulled up her own hood around her silvery hair.
“Seriously...” Beryl mumbled behind her as he too got to his feet and started to follow Fallon into the cold night. Fallon tightened her coat around her as she climbed onto her gorgeous Clydesdales, all three of them rode stunning Clydesdales, which were draft breeds that they specialized in. They may not have been the largest breeds of draft horses, but they were by far royal family’s favorite.
"Curiosity killed the cat," Sapphire purred.
Fallon patted her mare’s neck, ignoring the comments both of the boys made. They would follow her anywhere. Her mare was gray with white markings on her face, leg and body, she gave a shift of her head as Fallon’s hand left. “Come on, River,” she ushered the large horse forward. Her icy blue eyes watched as Beryl climbed on top of his bay Clydesdale and Sapphire upon his brown Clydesdale.
River took off into a soft trot into the night, and it was within moment’s that the trio were behind the girl, who was riding her own draft horse. Who was this girl?
Ushering her horse forward to come up alongside the unfamiliar face, their horses paced each other now. The boys stayed further behind, keeping their own pace but their distance as well. “Are you headed for the Castle?” The silvery voice of Fallon purred into the air. They were plenty far from the Castle and it was at least another day’s travel, but curiosity got the best of her. Maybe the high-class girl wasn’t going to the castle, maybe she was just making her way through their territory, maybe she has no idea where she was headed because she was most certainly not from around here.
The trio needed to head for their shelter for the night because the tavern was not their choice, they were just stopping for their horses rather than themselves. Their selected rooms were just ahead, about a mile. Fallon looked over her shoulder, making eye contacts with the boys behind them. Beryl gave a wry smile, while Sapph kept a crooked grin upon his sharp face. Her cool eyes fell back on the other female upon the horse, an eyebrow raised, waiting for the girl to answer her question.
Fallon gave a genuine laugh, she was ready to be home.

Alice Sondai princess of leogris
With the night came less people traveling down the trail. This was good in the fact that Alice wouldn’t have to hide her face from as many people, but bad in the fact that there was less of a chance for her to stop somebody and ask which houses were open to weary travelers. She assumed it would be the few scattered down the road with faint lights still flickering on from the inside, but she didn’t want to push her luck if the household had left their flames still burning for the sake of reading before retiring to bed or finishing a late night’s supper. Perhaps if she saw no other souls down the well worn path she would take her chances. Usually Alice wasn’t this wary of stopping and asking for assistance, but here in this land she held no prominence to the people. To them she was just a stranger, somebody that could turn on them just as easily as they could turn on her. Even worse was, on the off chance they somehow figured out who she was, there would be an uproar and a considerable amount of questions and accusations for why the Leogris crown princess was inside Oncia borders. That was something the tiger shifter wanted to avoid at all costs. She wasn’t here for trouble, she wanted to make that clear.
The first sign that she was no longer alone came in the form of the mare’s ears twitching forward. Alice took note of the equine’s shift in behavior, her gait slowing ever so faintly in knowing that she would possibly have to step off to the side to make room due to her wide frame. The mare wasn’t startled in any sense of the word, she was simply preparing herself for what was to come; the runaway princess reached a hand out and gave a quick pat against the Ardennes’s powerful neck.
It wasn’t long before Alice picked up on the rhythmic steps of horse hooves not too far down the path. She turned her head to look over her shoulder, her complete attention onto the oncomers now behind her, amber eyes narrowing ever so slightly in the dim light of dusk. As expected the trio - she could now make up three different silhouettes heading her way - rode atop powerful horses, each a different color of the Clydesdales breed. All three were stunning horses, but Alice much preferred her Ardennes. Even if the bay roan wasn’t Alice’s actual horse, she had grown fond of the mare in the days of their travel. The princess had not taken her actual horse along with her due to suspicion from her family only growing if they found Alice and her main horse to be missing. Not taking her own horse would perhaps buy her more time than she would have been alloted had she taken her silver chocolate dappled Percheron mount. She hoped that at some point she could return to her kingdom long enough to reunite herself with Xerxes, but for now she had to do without the stallion’s presence. In her absence he would be well taken care of, and that alone calmed her need to take him back for herself for now. She had much more pressing matters to concentrate on after all.
Before Alice knew it the three newcomers had strolled their own horses up alongside her own. She noted how it was the other female in the lead with two young men keeping more to the back. It was an interesting dynamic, and it only intrigued the Leogris princess even more. In her knowledge of Oncia roles it should be the other way around with one of the males in front and the young woman kept in the back, but that very obviously wasn’t the case here. Interesting, the tiger shifter thought to herself as the faintest of smirks pulled at the corner of her lips.
Unfortunately the smirk was soon wiped from her face when the other woman spoke up. Even though her voice was a honey smooth purr in the night the mere question itself sent a sliver of tension through Alice’s body. She didn’t like the sound of that question, asking if she was headed for the castle.
Taking a deep breath of the crisp night air, she did what she could to steel her nerves; rather than let the question eat away at her she chained herself back down to reality and met the other woman’s gaze with a sure and steady gaze of her own. ”Merely passing through is all,” she replied, voice just as steady as her gaze and as smooth as the woman’s had been. ”I haven’t been to this part of the land before, I wasn’t aware the castle was close.” Alice could tell that this little village was not one that made its home directly outside the castle walls, but she had noticed a fair amount of higher ranking people within the tavern earlier. Paired with that and the question from the girl Alice could only assume the castle was within a day or two’s travel from where she currently was.
Pulling in the reins of her horse, Alice had the roan slow her pace and fall more into step beside the other woman and her gray Clydesdale. ”If I’m being honest,” Alice started, having come to the conclusion that she could be open about the fact she was an aimless traveler, ”I’m looking for a place that will house me for the night. Unfortunately I wasn’t quick enough to have any luck with the inn.” There was a drop of annoyance that added into her voice as the words slipped off her tongue. The bartender had said to come back within an hour or two and there would more than likely be an open room, but Alice wasn’t fond of the idea of staying out in the cold for that much longer. She was already drawing into herself even more with each gust of wind. ”Would the three of you know of any place nearby that would welcome a young woman and her horse?” For all she knew these three could lead her astray, take advantage of her being out of her league here and rob her blind or even worse, but she liked to think of herself as somebody who could read the intentions of others and something about these three told her they weren’t interested in seeing any harm befall her. And besides, should they try anything they would have quite the surprise when a powerful tiger made itself known - three against one wasn’t fair and she would more than likely end up on the losing side of things, but Alice was determined and stubborn, she wouldn’t let the odds against her stop her from at least trying.
It was her question that then had one of the males speak up from the back, his voice more than a ghost of words in their softness. ”Why not stay with the three of us for the night? We’re one short, we have the room.”
This elicited a snort from the other male. ”Let a complete stranger stay with us? We know nothing about her,” he pointed out, words sharp as his pale blue eyes flickered between the blond male and Alice.
”Should you welcome me I will be honored and grateful, but if it causes too much of a stir I’ll remain on my own,” Alice replied with her head held high and her voice as steady as ever. The male who clearly had his feathers ruffled about this all eyed Alice with a sharp stare.
”Sapph, I doubt she could harm us by staying the night,” replied the blond with a soft voice as he reached out and placed a comforting hand on his friend’s arm.
The one known as Sapph let out a low huff, but he didn’t shrug off the other male’s touch. ”Fine, but Fallon gets the final say.”
Fallon. So that was the other female’s name. It was nice, elegant but simple, and from what Alice could garner from her already it was a well fitting name. But fitting name or not, it was now Fallon who held Alice’s fate for the night within her hands and Alice was curious to see which path, rejection or acceptance, she would be set upon.

Fallon Ayres apart of grayson's trusted inner circle - ♕ - she overcame everything that was meant to destroy her.
Fallon kept her lips pursed as she watched the scene unfold. The girl had asked a valid question, which made Fallon blink in surprise – surprised that she had yet to find some place to settle down for the evening, especially now that the sun had disappeared into the horizon and was replaced by the beautiful moon that graced them now. It was rather warm today, the fall weather adorned them with beauty such as leave changing, moderate temperatures and low wind chills, however the sun took that with it. The moon brought soft winds with low temperatures and being out on the road at night could get very uncomfortable.
The silvery haired girl subtly tilted her head as she observed the girl. If she didn’t know that she should have been off the road a little sooner than this, it had to mean that she didn’t often travel. Another hint that gave her away was the fact that she flashed so much money at the bar. It was one thing to wear something nice, or even try to subdue said nice things with older clothes, but it was another thing to drop that kind of money in a tavern. People pretended not to notice, but they did. They also would notice that she’s travelling alone, maybe that is what sparked the interest in Fallon – not for her money but for the fact that she was alone and being alone in these parts were not the safe.
As much as she adored Oncia, she would never turn a blind eye to the problems within its borders. They were a rich kingdom, but only within certain walls. The others suffered in poverty, something that Grayson often shared his opinion of and his father wanted nothing of it. The old ways often got in the way, the way of their grandfathers – it was a new time and the King and Queen were not so keen in changing their ways.
A smirk pulled at Fallon’s soft pink lips as she listened to Beryl and Sapph bicker back and forth. They may not look like siblings, the blonde versus the white-silver, but they most certainly acted like it.
“Fine, but Fallon gets the final say.”
All three pairs of eyes landed on her, she did not balk. “One night,” she shot a glance at Beryl, who simply just shrugged with a grin on his face. He was such a softie.
Fallon looked at the female, “if you’re going to stay with us, I think it’s only fair to ask what your name is?” She asked, giving her a sideways glance, as she pulled on the reins of her gray Clydesdale. The mare nickered with acknowledgement as she started down the road once more. She didn’t wait for the answer from the female, as she was starting to feel the bite of cold nipping at her skin. The warm clothes she wore would only last so much longer.
Leaves crackled under the mare’s hooves as they set down the road towards the inn the trio had planned at staying at. Beryl made the comment about being one short, which had made Fallon frown. Grayson was supposed to be exploring the land with them this time but had gotten dragged to the meeting instead. They were going to grace the land with the crowned prince presence because it seemed that the subjects of Oncia were getting wary of their crowned royals. Grayson was the one most adored, as he had a gentle heart when it came to his people. He was a little rough around the edges with an attitude that is normally frowned upon by royals and high-class members, but around the commoners – he was a breath of fresh air.
Fallon had once again got lost in her thoughts and realized that as her horse nickering brought her back to reality. She tugged at her hood a little more, her eyes flickering shut at the cold breeze that made its way through the woods.
Just as a shiver went down her spine, the familiar light of an inn appeared in front of them. It was a large wooden cabin, the front entrance was well light with two lanterns, and the windows were fogged over from the difference of temperatures. The smoke from the fireplace could be seen as it entered into the crisp air. The inn, itself, was not very large and normally barely had any rooms available but as soon as the innkeeper got word that Fallon and the boys were coming, she made sure there were two rooms available.
Fallon led the group over to the accompanying barn; the scent of hay filled her nose as she climbed off her large draft horse. She patted River’s neck, as a small red-head boy came out of the shadows of the stalls. “Beryl!” The boy bypassed Fallon and ran right up to Beryl as he was climbing off his own horse.
“Hi, little Peter,” the blonde purred as his feet hit the ground. The small boy hugged his side and then back off with a warm smile, eyeing everyone but particularly eyeing the unfamiliar face on the Ardennes.
“I’ll take the horses in, get the saddles put up, feed and water the horses,” he said, in quite the chipper voice, as he grabbed the reins of Beryl’s horse and Fallon’s horse. He eyed Sapph, “did you bring the candy you promised last time?”
Sapph let out a laugh, “kid, you never have any faith in me, do you?” The white-silver haired male slid off his horse and reached into a saddle bag, grabbing a small clothed bag. His slender fingers slowly opened it, revealing a bundle of cream-colored candy. “Penny made it especially for you.” Penny was head of their kitchen back in the castle and she made fantastic food, everything from savory to sweet to candy even.
Fallon watched with a smile on her face. Sapphire was one of the most sarcastic and untrusting people she had ever met, where Beryl was kind and protective of the group. The both of them were complete suckers for kids like Peter. They were well liked amongst most children they came across. Peter and his mother, Jilly, were one of their favorite people to visit when they did these kinds of adventures. They always took care of the group, and they were especially fond of Grayson.
Peter walked up to the unfamiliar face, he was slightly wary but for the fact that she was accompanying Beryl, Sapph and Fallon – it might she had to be okay. “I’ll take your horse, Miss,” he said with his free hand outreached. As soon as the reins were in his hand, he turned and gave a quick smile to Fallon. “Mother is waiting inside for you guys.” With that, he disappeared into the stables with the four horses behind him.
Fallon turned on her heels and walked into the inn, and into the welcoming arms of Jilly. She was a plump red head with a warm smile. “Hi Fallon,” her voice was soft as she wrapped her arms tightly around the smaller female. She looked over her shoulder, her warm voice filling the air, “as always, it’s nice to see you boys. I’m sad Gray isn’t with you guys this time around.” Just as she spoke, her body went a little tense against Fallon, right before she released the silver haired girl. Fallon knew without even turning around what caused Jilly to pause in her warm welcoming. “Well, who is this?”

Alice Sondai princess of leogris
As much as she hated to admit it, Alice was not a traveler. She had travelled before, but never like this and never into unknown territory. She had been on many travels with her parents through the lands of Leogris as they visited cities outside the castle grounds for various reasons. Yet even then the journeys had never been exactly like this - instead they had been in the comforts of a royal carriage or wagon, none of the royal family needing to go upon horseback for the sake of getting to their destination. The only ones that had been on horseback had been the guards following along in front, beside, and behind the carriage, and Alice could vividly recall staring out at the guards on their horses when she hadn’t been too busy taking in the scenery of the world outside the grounds she knew. There had been a few times, especially when she had been no older than five or six, when she would turn to her parents and question them on why they weren’t out there on their own horses. She would simply get dismissed, her mother or father telling her it wasn’t the role of the royals to ride like commoners. Of course, as she grew up she had been taught how to ride and how to wield the untamed power of a horse, but this was her first true time actually using that knowledge for such a long journey.
There was something in Fallon’s gaze, or perhaps just the way the other female held herself atop her own horse, that told Alice that she was starting to be figured out, or at least, she wasn’t making it hard to hide the fact that she wasn’t just some typical, every day peasant out on the roads. It was true that the tiger shifter wasn’t exactly hiding this fact, but she wasn’t outright flaunting it. The money thing back at the inn had been the only time Alice had flashed a hint of her status out in the open on purpose like that, and it seemed as if that had done her in. Of course, she could just say she had been lucky in some sort of gambling match far off somewhere else, or that she had recently come up on the fortune of a late family member and now she was taking her and her newfound riches somewhere far off. But she supposed that as long as there were no questions asked she would have no answers to give. There was no point in bringing something up that wasn’t asked about lest she heighten suspicions for being the guilty dog that barked first.
The runaway royal remained silent as she allowed Fallon to decide whether or not she could join their party for the night. If she was accepted she would take the offer with nothing but respect and appreciation, but should she be declined she would accept the offer with dignity and grace. For as much as Alice was known to have something of a sharp tongue and a roughness to her, she knew where she stood in this unfamiliar land. Right now she was the subordinate, the follower. Her place right now was not to give orders or declare that she was in the right, this wasn’t her land to exercise such powers upon. For now her place was to receive and take what was given. For once the power was not in her hands, but rather in the hands of Fallon and her group. It was something Alice was unfamiliar with, but she could play the part for as long as he needed.
Muscles that she hadn’t even realized were taut relaxed and loosened the moment she heard Fallon’s answer upon the night air. “One night”. That was all she needed.
Relief now washing over her, Alice gave slack to the reins once held tightly in her grip. The mare shifted underneath Alice, knowing the signal of needing to continue walking. ”The name’s Alice,” she replied smoothly in response to being asked. She had decided way before now that giving her true name would be easier than coming up with a fake one to use throughout her travels. Alice was an incredibly common name and even just back home she knew of at least three other girls that had been given that same name. Now if she was asked for a last name she knew she needed to use a completely made up one, and she had already been running through a list of possible last names she could use. She had settled on three, and if she was ever asked for a last name she would give her final answer, but that was a worry for another time.
Setting her mare’s pace to the gait of the group, Alice followed along. Now that she knew she had a place for the night the chill no longer bothered her as much as it had, perhaps her body knowing she was soon heading for somewhere warm. ”Thank you,” Alice broke through the noise of leaves crunching underneath hooves, ”for the hospitality.” She meant the words. Without the kindness of Fallon’s decision Alice more likely than not would have been stuck in the cold autumn night.
For the rest of the way Alice rode in silence. She followed alongside the other woman and the two men that accompanied her, saying nothing more and allowing the sounds of the night to come to her. There was the sturdiness of the horses’ hooves upon the ground, and every so often between the chirps of crickets came the haunting call of an owl from deep within the woods. There was a peacefulness to the night, nothing that told of something out of the ordinary. Had it not been for the chill in the air the night would have been a perfect one.
Luckily it wasn’t much longer before Alice noticed a light in the near distance. She perked up at the sight, glad to see that the end of this journey was near - or at least, the end of tonight’s journey. She would be setting out again tomorrow, but that was still hours away. Right now she was going to focus on what was happening now. The smoke billowing from the top of the cabin promised warmth inside, and it took everything in Alice to not click to the mare to go faster. She had to remind herself to stay alongside the trio since she was the guest here and not the other way around.
Managing to keep herself in stride with the others, Alice followed Fallon and the two men along as they guided their horses toward a well kept barn where already she could see hay was well stacked and ready for the horses. At the familiar scent of hay the Ardennes mare let out an eager nicker. It wasn’t long before they had made it to the barn and Alice was following suit in dismounting her horse. Within the time it took her to get down on the ground, a little boy with a mop of red hair came running out, clearly excited to see the group, specifically Beryl. Alice stood her ground and allowed for the young boy to greet the trio that he was familiar with. She offered a warm smile when he came up to her to take her horse for the night. ”Thank you.” A flash of amusement danced across her visage as she added, ”Keep Louisa in check, she’s a good one, but perhaps too smart for her own good.” She kept her words light and humorous, not wanting to truly worry the boy. And it was also in that moment when she decided on a name for the mare as well. Louisa. It was a fine name for a fine mount.
Once the horses had been seen to, Alice turned to follow Fallon, Beryl, and Sapph out toward the inn. There the little boy’s mother waited, taking no time in pulling Fallon into a welcoming hug. Of course, it wasn’t long before the woman noticed the newcomer’s presence. Alice noticed the tautness in the plump woman’s body, but she paid no offense to it. Alice was a stranger. Of course she was going to get a less than warm welcome compared to what Fallon and the boys received. ”Alice,” the princess greeted with a nod of her head. ”Fallon has kindly offered me to stay for the night, but should that cause any problems for you, Miss, I will continue on my way with no hard feelings.” Fallon had given her permission to stay, but it only seemed right to ask the red headed woman for sanctuary as well. If Alice was to lay as low as she could, she needed to keep herself in the good graces of others, and already she found the thought of upsetting this woman who seemed jovial and kind to be bitter and something she would much prefer to avoid.

Fallon Ayres apart of grayson's trusted inner circle - ♕ - she overcame everything that was meant to destroy her.
Jilly just gave her a warm smile in return, “of course you are welcomed.”
Fallon gave a taut laugh as she turned towards the small living, the fireplace crackling from newly placed wood and the smell of smoke filtered through the small space. It felt more like a home than a small inn. This is probably why it was on the list of Grayson’s favorite places to visit when he left the castle walls. Jilly had been running this inn since they were just kids and they had been visiting once or twice a year since they were able to leave the castle walls on their own. At least, it seemed like Jilly personally liked them and not just for the money they brought to support the inn – Grayson made sure to take care of the mother and son, even against his father’s wishes. Fallon liked to think Jilly truly liked the four of them regardless.
The plump red head looked at the boys before letting out a soft voice, “you two are in your normal room down the hall.” She turned towards Fallon, where her back was facing the group. Fallon’s eyes were on the fire, watching the flames dance.
“Zoning out is becoming her thing,” Sapph mused, his own eyes settling upon Fallon’s back. She tilted her head over her shoulder and gave a vulgar gesture in response. “Oh, so didn’t expect that one from you, Fallon.” The male said, mockingly.
Jilly stifled a laugh as she watched the two tormented each other back and forth, “well, Fallon, your room will not be your normal, now that you have a fourth joiner with ya.” She shrugged apologetically; she couldn’t give them three rooms, right now. Normally, Fallon got her own being that she was the only female in the ground, and Beryl and Sapph always shared a room. Grayson, of course, got his own as well. Tonight, she didn’t have the extra rooms to spare. It was cold out and there were quite a bit of travelers passing through the territory. It was almost time for the Fall Annual Ball at the castle, which meant more people found themselves wandering closer and closer, because more royals came to the castle for such an event.
Fallon nodded her head, politely. She knew that meant she was sharing a room with Alice, but of course, she was grateful to have a place to stay and grateful for the hospitality.
Just as Jilly was opening to say something again, a smaller woman came out of the closest room and her face was in despair. The inn keeper quickly excused herself after pointing down the hall towards the bedrooms and where the shared bathroom was across the hall.
Fallon nodded towards Alice and the boys before walking down the hallway. She got to her door and opened it, leaving it cracked for Alice to come in. She walked over to the bed along on the right wall – the blankets were pulled back; the pillow was fluffed up. She looked around, observing the room – not the room she was normally in when she stayed in the inn, but it was just as comfy as any other room.
Hanging up her coat, and taking off her knee-high boots, she flopped onto the bed, very un-lady-like. Her silvery hair fanned out around her head like a shattered halo and she let out a long exhale, releasing the tension that she hadn’t known she was carrying around. Her eyes were on the ceiling. Alice had yet to enter the room.

Alice Sondai princess of leogris
Relief washed over the runaway princess the moment the plump woman welcomed her presence into the inn. No longer did Alice have to worry about the hungry claws of the cold that lay just outside the inn’s walls. She could get a good night’s rest and be completely recharged to continue her journey in the morning. Same for Louisa. The mare would be well taken care of throughout the night, and Alice was sure she would be more than ready to get out again once morning came. The both of them would be off to a great start in the morning, well rested and recharged.
Once again Alice found herself thanking somebody for their hospitality toward her. She nodded toward the innkeeper with gratitude in her eyes. ”Your hospitality is very much appreciated.” She meant it, too. This woman could very well throw her back outside for the night. She didn’t have to give Alice a place to sleep and rest up for the night, but she was doing so, and that was more than Alice could have hoped for. Here nobody knew of her true status, and that meant anybody could treat her like a low class woman. They could see her as a beggar or a thief and cast her out, but so far that hadn’t been the case. It was more than appreciated, and Alice only worried now when her luck would run dry.
While everybody else was being settled into their respective rooms, Alice took the time to look around and check out where she would be staying for the night. Even if this was a one time thing, she wanted to make sure she knew the layout of the inn she was staying in. Just in case of an emergency Alice wouldn’t be stranded in a completely unknown place, she would be able to find a way out and quick. As she swept her gaze around she found it to be a rather comforting inn; it had a homey feel to it, warm and gentle as if nothing bad had ever happened inside its walls. It seemed well protected as well. Sure, guards weren’t posted everywhere, if anything Alice hadn’t seen a single guard in the whole vicinity, but that didn’t mean none were out there hiding and waiting for anything to happen. Then again, her suspicions about Fallon, Beryl, and Sapph could be wrong in that she assumed they had something to do with Oncian royalty, or were at least of higher class. Their clothes were dull in color, but that could be easily arranged as a facade. It was how they held themselves, how they spoke, that made Alice wary that she was perhaps dealing with people that knew the royal family personally. The only one out of the trio that didn’t quite fit the royal vibe Alice was getting was Beryl. He was more or less the weak link out of the trio if she was being honest, the softy, the one that would rather hunker down than stand his ground. Not that she had anything against it, but if she had to take a guess on anybody out of those three not being connected to royalty or a person of high standing through blood then it was him.
The tiger shifter was pulled out of her thoughts when she heard the voice of the innkeeper break into her reverie. She remained silent throughout everything else, not wanting to somehow say something that would end up getting her kicked back out into the cold. That was the last thing she wanted, especially since she knew it would only get colder as the night grew older.
Without any words still she followed after Fallon to their room. Once again she made sure to keep an eye on everything that she walked by, taking in the scenery of it all. It wasn’t long before she made it to the room, moving the door open to slip inside. She shut the door behind her, glancing around the room before setting her gaze toward Fallon. ”This is a rather nice inn,” she commented, wondering if she would get any luck in starting a conversation up. Usually she wasn’t this awkward or bad at conversation, but she had to play it safe here. One wrong word from her and it could be all over, and that wasn’t something she wanted to handle at the moment.

Fallon Ayres apart of grayson's trusted inner circle - ♕ - she overcame everything that was meant to destroy her.
Fallon watched the ceiling, her eyes unmoving from the spot they were fixated on. She was tired, exhausted from a day of traveling from the outskirts of the territory. She couldn’t wait to get back home to her own bed, where she didn’t feel like she needed to be on edge all the time. The inn was safe, of course it was, but that didn’t mean the tension and worry left her body so easily. It wasn’t like they were in any danger, traveling like they were, but at the same time – the wrong people finding out that three of the crowned prince’s closest friends, and practically family, were riding around the territory – their lives could be made hell within seconds.
Her eyes fluttered shut, but not before she heard Alice speak. The unfamiliar female had closed the door but hadn’t made her way away from the door just yet. She must have been taking in the looks of the room.
The room itself was cozy. Two twin sized beds laid on opposite sides of the room, both lining parallel with the walls. The beds were made up with a sheepskin laid across a thin sheet and a fluffy pillow was placed at the end of the bed. There was a singular window that was placed between the two beds, accompanying drapes laid on either side of the window pane. It was open, and you could easily see into the evening sky, the small flickering of the stars, the passing of distant clouds and the distinctive rays of the moon were shining through. There was a matching sheepskin rug between the two bed, and as soon as Fallon had taken off her boots, her toes had wiggled in awe of its’ softness – it never got old, no matter how many times she stayed in the inn. Each room was accompanied with sheepskin, courtesy of Grayson — of course, however, no one knew that because the four of them. He had left them at the doorstep a couple years ago, never telling Jilly that he was the reason for the surprise gift of rugs and blankets made out of soft sheepskin.
“Yes, yes, it is,” a soft smile pulled at Fallon’s lips as she sat up on her elbows. Her eyes falling onto Alice’s face. “It is especially nice for this area, considering we are still quite a distance from the castle walls.” Which was entirely true, the closer they got to the castle, the more upscale things would become. Not everything, but things got considerably nicer.
Fallon sat up completely, deeming how her previous position was uncomfortable after a few moments of propping herself up. “So, I’m curious,” the silvery haired girl tilted her head, her icy blue eyes pinning Alice. “Where are you visiting from?” Her cold gaze travelled down her outfit, clearly, she was not of a lower class stature – she was dressed too nice and her manners, well, they were most certainly too refined. Fallon was simply curious as to what made people want to visit Oncia so badly, especially when there was so much of this world to go see.
She even knew that the Kingdom of Leogris was a beautiful land to go visit, especially since their kingdom ran a little different from Oncia, then most kingdoms, including the one Fallon was born into. Maybe one day, Fallon would be lucky enough to visit a kingdom that allowed females to rule, one day but that day was no time soon. However, things were changing in the Kingdom of Oncia, especially now that Grayson was becoming of age.
Fallon pulled herself out of her thoughts once again. She was tired, it was really that simple but she needed to figure out the girl with whom she was sharing a room with tonight. So, the blue eyed girl pushed herself to stay awake.

Alice Sondai princess of leogris
Everything about this room spoke of a simple elegance that Alice was honestly finding herself to be enamored with. It wasn’t too out of the way fancy, but it clearly wasn’t just some run down room where even the lowliest of townsfolk would crash for the night after a night of having one - or more - too many to drink. It was comforting in a homey way, something that Alice found to be incredibly nice after traveling and settling for anything she could get during the nights. Just the night before this she had been lucky to have found an old cottage that had clearly not aged with grace. But the family inside had been some of the kindest souls Alice had met, an elderly couple who had been farmers in their prime, their son now taking over the duty of watching over them in their ailing health. Alice had felt a myriad of emotions go through her during her stay with the family - respect, admiration, sadness, amusement, a wide array of things. She had slept in the floor that night on a makeshift pallet of tattered blankets. Even if it hadn’t been the most comfortable, and she had to settle with going to bed somewhat hungry, it had been both a stark and humble reminder to her that not everybody, that most people, had not been near as lucky as she was when it came to birth status.
Alice wanted to say more about the room, perhaps even add how she was lucky to have ran into the trio back on the trail when she had. Or rather, lucky to have caught their attention just enough to spark curiosity within them that made them follow after her. Perhaps attracting attention to herself would be worrisome, as too much attention would raise heads, and too much attention would also put her under the cold, hard eyes of those willing to attack and steal and ruffle up lonely travelers, but luck had been kind to her in generous amounts and she had yet to run into any trouble. But before she could say anything more the other woman, Fallon, was speaking up yet again with that smooth voice of hers.
Those icy blue eyes had been looking over the clothing Alice had on. They weren’t anything of true substance, as simple of clothing as she could get within her own castle walls. They were perhaps a tad too big for her, but they worked well enough and stayed on her frame which was all she asked for. They were dull in color, a lot less flashier than Alice had ever been used to. The colors reminded her of the dull shades that a caretaker might wear, something that a royal nanny would use to clothe herself for the job ahead. Yet even still they were nice clothes, far nicer than the dull rags the low class would wear within either Leogris or Oncia.
Those thoughts aside, she had been asked a question. Luckily she already had an answer upon her tongue. ”I come from the town Azand. On a good day it’s half a day’s travel to the Leogris castle.” Alice knew if she tried to play it off that she was from a poor town or something of the sorts it wouldn’t work and she would only draw even more suspicion on her. Her clothes and manners were too prim for anything beyond more than a few day’s travel from the castle, and she had decided to admit to being from Leogris long before she had arrived here. The two kingdoms were not fond of one another, but travelers were typically allowed to go in and out. It wasn’t common, but it happened, and usually without any hard feelings involved.
After a moment of contemplation, Alice decided that if she was the one to open up about her reasons for leaving her kingdom behind first, she wouldn’t be seen as hiding or keeping something away. Of course what she was about to say was a complete lie, but she was well versed in trickery of the tongue, and she had no reason to worry she would slip. Her story was easy to remember as well, and she knew she would be able to recall it just as easy as she could recall her own name. ”Perhaps I was rash in my actions, but my family back home had wanted to wed me off to a man much older than either of our ages combined.” Which wasn’t an uncommon practice and it was something Alice found to be absolutely revolting. Even within inner circles of royalty that scenario would play out, young daughters being bought off to men that could very easily be their own father or even grandfather in age. Even in Leogris, where women had a bit more power, it was all too common. ”That man wouldn’t treat me beyond anything other than a tool for offspring and a clean house. Maybe I should have accepted my fate, but I know I’m better than just some under appreciated housewife.” Even if this was all some fabricated lie, there was a fierceness in the princess’s words and over her visage. She would never stand to be used for somebody else’s gain, that much was true. She wasn’t some frilly puppet to be used as somebody pleased. She was her own person and wouldn’t stand to be used, wouldn’t stand to be chained down. That was one reason for why she had abandoned her position as crown princess. After learning more about the role and what it had to offer, Alice realized she didn’t want to be chained to such strict rules and laws. She wanted to be free, wanted to be her own person, and if that meant running away and coming to Oncia then she was more than willing to do as much. Alice was her own person, and she would never, ever let anybody or anything push her over.

Fallon listened as the strange female talked about what she had escaped from. The silver haired female grew colder, her expression darkening, as the story continued. Hatred bubbled in her veins as Alice finished her history. She tried to keep her expression as blank as possible but it was devastatingly hard when she heard stories like that; why? Fallon had been suffering from a father like that since she was bone. She was always being primed for males to look at her, as if she was nothing but cattle to be breed. She was actually sent to Oncia to find a suitable male that Grayson knew, but thankfully, Grayson was dragging his feet on purpose when it came to that subject. When Fallon was ready to wed, Grayson would help her, but both of them knew that day would never come. She was never going to give up her freedom.
"I'm sorry to hear that," Fallon murmured as she watched Alice with cold blue eyes. "It's sad that it has become the norm in kingdoms like ours for women to be treated as if they are simply pawns, pawns that have face value." It didn't matter what tier of class you are from, most of the classes still believed in giving their daughters to men of a higher class, or simply giving their daughters to gain something whether that be land, social status or money. Some women came with dowry, some came with more land, some came with armies, and some simply meant they were no longer a mouth to feed.
Fallon sighed before falling back on her back, her arms crossed on her stomach. "Where will you go? A life on the run of not much of a life either," Fallon gave the girl a sideways glance. She let out a disappointed sigh, "please get comfortable, you're making me uneasy with you just standing there like a statue." She was blunt, always has been, always will be. Frankly, Alice needed to rest because there was no way her journey has been the easiest on her because running never was. Fallon was simply lucky that she never had to do that, never been subjected to running away but in a way, she did -- she just ran to another kingdom where she had strong enough allies to protect her. She was blessed to have best friends like Grayson, Beryl and Sapphire. They would never let her go anywhere against her will and she feels like she is forever in their debt because of it, even though Grayson said if she wanted to leave Oncia, he would arrange safe passage and a new life somewhere else -- however, that entitled her leaving her best friends forever and she couldn't quite stomach that yet.
Fallon hadn't changed out of her clothes that she had been wearing and decided that she was all too tired to do that. Taking off her boots and her cloak were enough of an effort, and at least she wore comfortable clothes because riding was always uncomfortable especially since higher class had to wear the stupidest of things to ride in, frankly.

Alice Sondai princess of leogris
Guilt snaked its way inside Alice. She noticed the change in Fallon, how the other young woman grew colder and harsher as Alice’s lie entered the otherwise quiet air. She could sense that her newfound companion shared many of the same opinions on this matter that Alice did, and she hated using something that Fallon seemed so passionate about in the sake of a lie, but she couldn’t just burst out with the fact that she was the princess of Leogris. It was something she was trying to run away from, something she didn’t want to ever admit to again. Speaking of it was the last thing on her list, and if all went smoothly she would never be caught in her lie in the first place. It wasn’t like she would ever see Fallon again after tonight. It was a pity, especially since Alice felt as if, should she have been granted more time with the other feline shifter, they could have been close friends given the time and effort. That was one reason why she felt the sting of guilt at her lie, but she couldn’t let herself stumble over that.
In the long run, though, her words weren’t a total lie. She hadn’t been running away from a forced marriage, but it would have only been a matter of time before that idea would have been brought to the table; princess or not Alice was still a woman, and women were expected to have a man at their side. Her suitors would have been men of high rank, the sons of respected royal guards and staff within the castle walls and surrounding towns. At most she would have the power to pick which male she found the most appealing to her and her individual needs, but at the end of the day she would still have to listen to him and do as he wanted. Even as queen she would be expected to give any husband of hers satisfaction to his needs. She would have to bend to his will, and bending to others was not part of who Alice was. Perhaps in the far future she would like to settle with a husband - or perhaps even a wife, she was no stranger to finding another woman pleasant - and step into the binding contract of marriage, but she would only do so with somebody who saw and treated her as an equal. She wouldn’t allow for anything less than that.
A sigh slipped from the tiger shifter’s lips. She shook her head before leaning down to slip off the boots she had been wearing. ”Perhaps one day things will change and women will no longer have to fear being shipped off to the highest bidder.” Her cloak was then pulled off, set aside to be picked up later when she needed it in the coming morning.
Free from the binding of her cloak and boots, Alice took heed of Fallon’s words and found it easy to settle onto the second bed. She couldn’t stop the faint chuff of amusement that slipped from her tongue. She found Fallon’s bluntness to be amusing. It was nice if she was being honest, a much needed refresher from all the forced niceness and politeness that she had to deal with. Not many people, especially a woman, would be so free with their words around her.
When asked where she would go, Alice let out a slow sigh, gaze drifting upward toward the arched ceiling of the room. ”Truth be told, I haven’t quite thought that far. I’ve no destination in mind when I know I should,” she responded in earnest. Her truth here was helping carve away some of the guilt from earlier, but she could still feel it gnawing ever so faintly upon her like a dog chewing a bone. ”Right now I’m an aimless drifter, and I suppose I’ll let fate take me to where I’m meant to be.” A subtle wistfulness drifted into Alice’s words as she spoke. It would be nice to know where she was going and where she would end up. It would be nice to know that she had a place to stay at the end of all of this, but there was another part of her, that adventurous and impulsive side to her, that enjoyed the unknown. That side of her wanted to see what awaited her in the grand scheme of it all and got defensive over the idea of a definite ending to all of this.
For now, though, she simply sank into the warm softness of the bed she was now lying in. It had been far too long since she had rested in something this comfortable, and even despite the interesting conversation she was having with Fallon, Alice could feel her eyes grow heavy and her body longing for a good night’s rest before the continuation of her journey in the morning.

Fallon Ayres apart of grayson's trusted inner circle - ♕ - she overcame everything that was meant to destroy her.
Fallon tried to keep her eyes open as Alice was speaking but she was truly struggling. She let out a soft sigh, her lips slightly parted, as the darkness known as sleep took her into the abyss. There was nothing she could do, nor was she trying to fight the sleep that was slowly taking over her. The long day of traveling had made her even more exhausted than she had anticipated, and part of her unconscious mind drifted into wondering about the boys across the hall. Were they as tired of she was? Were they ready to go back home? She was more than ready to go home, as much as she loved traveling with the boys -- she wanted to get back into a routine, back into the groove and of course, Grayson would be there. They felt incomplete without their crowned prince, even if he was temperamental and grumpy at times.
It seemed only moments had past by the time Fallon opened her eyes, the sunlight shining through the window and onto her tan skin. She blinked slightly, being blinded by the in coming morning rays. Suddenly, she was frowning as she realized it was way later than she had intended for it to be -- she wanted to get on the road at dawn, but yet her body had betrayed her. She must have been even more exhausted than she had thought.
She rolled over on her side, her eyes squinting -- she was honestly shocked that she was able to sleep with the sun shining into the room like it was. Back home, she had them put up curtains that allowed no sunlight to enter her room unless she wanted them to; she was incredible sensitive to the sunlight, in regards to sleeping.
Letting out a soft yawn, she raised from the bed and her feet hit the sheepskin rug. Her hair was a frizzy mess and she tried to comb through it with her slender fingers but there was a knot that not even her fingers could get through -- she must have slept harder than she had in a while.
Fallon looked over at Alice, who appeared to be sleeping and the messy haired girl walked out of the small room with quiet steps. She entered into the bathroom across from her room and looked into the mirror. Staring back at her were cold blue-gray eyes and a mess of silvery hair. She blinked softly before looking down at the sink, and turning on the water -- she quickly washed her face and fixed her hair with the comb laying on the sink's counter.
When she glanced back up at her reflection, she looked a little more put together besides the small bags that could be found under Fallon's eyes, which was a normal sight to see when she was traveling -- never did she ever sleep well when not in her own bed or in the safety of her castle.
She walked back out of the bathroom, not hearing any movement from the boys' room which meant they were probably still sleeping: Great, it was going to be a late start to the day.
Fallon entered back into the room, trying not to wake her roommate for the night; she was curious as to what her plans were for her traveling. Maybe she was going to leave Oncia as soon as she had entered or maybe she was planning to stick around, who knows.
She frowned as she sat on the bed and pulled on her boots -- they are going to get back into the castle right in time for their masquerade ball. It was going to be a busy couple of days, traveling back and then getting ready for the crowned prince to be shown off at the ball; of course, much to his parent's dismay, the inner circle was attending.
She laced up her boots before giving another soft yawn, wiping her sleepy eyes once again.

Alice Sondai princess of leogris
In any other circumstance Alice would have found it rude that the person she was talking to had fallen asleep. She would have been rightly annoyed about it and perhaps even go so far as to be passive aggressive to said person during any other interactions, but Alice could understand Fallon falling asleep at this time. The runaway princess had no idea what all Fallon’s day had consisted of, but if it was anything like Alice’s had been then she knew the other woman was exhausted.
Just as travel weary and tired, Alice allowed herself to curl up within the covers of her bed. Within minutes she felt her heavy, tired eyes give in to her body’s need to sleep. Before she knew it she had drifted off into a dreamless slumber, but even without a dream to occupy her thoughts through the night she found the sleep to be more than enough for what she needed.
If somebody had told her she had only been asleep for merely a few minutes Alice would have believed them without hesitation. She had been expecting to part her eyes open only to see the darkness of night still blanketing the room, but instead she saw the exact opposite. Sunlight was streaming into the room, making everything come to life with natural light.
Alice jolted up into a sitting position when she realized it had to be at least hours after dawn. That meant she was late to getting a start on the road again. She had meant to be out and resuming her travel at this time, perhaps hours away from this inn by now, but that very well wasn’t the case right now. The princess let out an annoyed groan. She had not meant to sleep this late, and she still had to get herself ready. She could already feel that her short hair was a tangled mess that would need to be taken care of. Another annoyed groan slipped from her lips as she pushed herself out of bed, almost wanting to just curl back up and stay inside the warm covers a few hours more, but she knew better than to do that.
Her amber gaze slid over to the other bed in the room as she stood up. Fallon wasn’t there. For a good minute there Alice wondered if the other young woman had left already and didn’t wake Alice to let her know, but those thoughts were pushed to the side when she heard the door to the room opened up. She looked over and watched as Fallon walked inside. Well, looked like she wasn’t the only one to have overslept. It made Alice feel a little better about her mistake.
”Morning,” she greeted, and then added with a bitterness to her words, ”if it even is still morning.” She hoped beyond everything out there that it was at least still morning, but Alice couldn’t be sure just yet.
Morning or not, though, she needed to at least clean up a bit. Unfortunately, she no longer had the time to spare for a full bath, but brushing out her hair and cleaning her face up would be enough until she had the chance to fully clean up. So leaving her roommate to her own devices for now, Alice made her way out of the room and to the bathroom right across the room. She quickly brushed out her tangled hair and gave her face a quick wash with water, and once she felt good enough she headed back to the room to get everything else ready. She was in the middle of slipping on her boots when a hasty knock tapped against the door that was then followed by a voice that she recognized as Sapph’s on the other side. ”You two up yet? If we want to get back to the castle in time for the ball we need to get going soon.”
A ball? Now that caught Alice’s attention.
”You have a ball to attend to tonight?” She asked Fallon, genuinely curious. She had attended a few of her own, all hosted by her mother and father, but she had never heard anything about Oncian balls. She was sure they were just as grand and fun, and she was curious to know more if Fallon was inclined to answer her question.

Fallon Ayres apart of grayson's trusted inner circle - ♕ - she overcame everything that was meant to destroy her.
The silver haired female let out a dulcet chuckle, her head was dipped as she was lacing up her boots. "It is still morning, I can only assume that it's mid morning, but definitely not early." Her own bitterness hung at the end of her sentence but amusement clouded most of it. It was nice to know that she was not the only one annoyed by the fact they had slept way later than originally planned -- not that Fallon knew what Alice had planned but clearly, they were on the same thought process ... get up early, get moving early, get to their destination sooner and hopefully avoid another cold night's travel.
Fallon could literally hear him walking towards their door before she heard his voice. He was never one for subtly, never one to respect someone's privacy or respect whether or not someone was sleeping. That was Sapphire for you. She rolled her eyes as she stood up from the bedside and made her way over to the wooden door that separated the room from the hallway, as well as Fallon from Sapphire.
"Didn't your mother teach you manners?" Fallon snapped at Sapph as she opened the door, revealing a plainly dressed male; a devilish smile crossed over his face as he made direct eye contact with Fallon.
"I think I skipped that lesson," Sapph bit back quickly, his sarcasm quickly matching Fallon's; there was no hesitation between the two, bickering came so naturally. He turned towards Alice as she spoke up after his original statement, which made Fallon turn her head back over her shoulder, her blue eyes gazing at Alice once more. "Ye-," Sapph started, but Fallon clicked her tongue inside her cheek, causing Sapph to wrinkle his nose.
"I am pretty sure that question was directed to me, so don't be rude anymore," Fallon purred sarcastically as she turned her body to face Alice once again. "Yes, it's our annual Oncia masquerade ball; I'm surprised you haven't heard of it.." The female trailed off slightly before pursing her lips, "I suppose if you're not from Oncia, you wouldn't know about it, right.."
"What I think these two mean to say is yes, we have a ball to attend but no, it is not tonight," a smooth voice sounded closer and closer as it approached from behind Sapph. The dirty-blonde male, Beryl, walked up beside Sapph with a crooked smile, "it's a ball where we were masks that represent our feline sides, and it's also to celebrate the Crown Prince's birthday."
"Yeah, what he said," Fallon said lamely as she shot both of the boys behind her a dangerous look. She was still uncertain about Alice, or what she was going to do. Why did she care if they had to attend a ball? She made it perfectly clear that she was nothing but a traveler and almost seemed to have no interest in staying in Oncia for any longer than she had to. It was fine if she didn't appreciate their kingdom like they did, she also made sure the trio knew that she was not an Oncia citizen.

Alice Sondai princess of leogris
As soon as Fallon spoke Alice could hear the bitterness in her own words. She was just as annoyed with herself for sleeping in late as much as Alice was. That was something of a relief if she was being honest. It meant they were both on the same page, and Alice wouldn’t have to worry about anybody slacking off and taking their time to get ready. Sure, she didn’t have to wait for Fallon and the boys to leave, but she didn’t want to just up and leave without some kind of politeness. They had treated her well and had allowed her to stay with them for the night, she wasn’t about to just up and leave them at the first chance she got.
Which, she didn’t have to worry about leaving before her hosts just yet when Sapph made his appearance and the conversation was soon turned to the topic of the ball.
Alice’s attention was instantly drawn to the conversation at hand. Throughout her life she had been curious about what happened beyond the borders of Leogris. She had wondered what life was like out there, how the people handled the rules that binded them, how they went about their days. She had been so curious about it all, so curious about the mundane things that happened in Oncia. During her journey she had seen a bit of that. She had seen farmers tending to their crops and livestock. She had seen children playing outside as their parents called them in for a meal. She had seen a lot of sights reminiscent to that of what she would find in Leogris, but one thing she had not seen, or even thought of until this very moment, was an Oncian ball. She could only imagine that they were just as every bit as grand as the ones she had attended. Of course, she would only be able to imagine what they were like as there was no way she would be invited to attend, but luckily her imagination was fair enough and could keep her content with ideas of what the ball was like.
Before she could dive too deeply into her own mind and thoughts Alice was brought back to the real world. She stood there and listened to what Fallon, Sapph, and Beryl all had to say, taking in their words and nodding her acknowledgement to show she was listening without butting in with her own words before they finished. She had thoughts formulating in her mind already, but she held back on saying anything.
A coy smirk pulled at the tiger shifter’s lips. ”So it’s an over grand birthday party?” Oh, her birthdays had been celebrated as well, but never with some grand ball. She had nothing against the ball itself, but she found it to be a bit...over the top for a prince’s birthday. Was their monarchy so spoiled that they needed this grand of a celebration to mark the birth of their next king? Alice would have laughed at the idea if she was not in the presence of company, and she knew better than to anger people just because she had different opinions and different ways of going about things.
Shaking those thoughts aside, Alice went on to ask, ”When will we be heading out? I intend on going a different path than the one you take, but I thought we could at least head out at the same time.” Of course, if they didn’t want to do that, then Alice had no qualms, but heading out at relatively the same time made sense to her in the moment.

Fallon Ayres apart of grayson's trusted inner circle - ♕ - she overcame everything that was meant to destroy her.
Fallon kept her expression as blank as possible, even though a hint of anger skidded through her. Sure, a masquerade ball was a little bit too grand for a birthday, but it was also a reason for the Queen to throw a party, which she loved to do. If there was anyone that loved entertaining, it was Rhea Kersey. Word had it, since it was well before Fallon's time, that the now Oncian Queen was from a small kingdom that didn't have a lot to offer the world. However, the crowned prince at the time decided that she was who he wanted, and despite the uproar of his own parents, he wed Rhea. It was a love story that Fallon grew up hearing, which may or may not have sparked her desire to chose her own husband, or bride, but her kingdom was not so ... forgiving in those aspect of things.
Rhea, the queen of Oncia, threw parties all the time because its her way of celebrating life -- yes, it came with the cost of money, but Oncia was not hurting for any money ... right now, but of course, that could change at any moment. This one was her way of celebrating her son, the first of their children and the rightful heir to the throne of their kingdom.
Alice made it perfectly clear about her thoughts on the party, on the masquerade ball, and well, Fallon could agree with her point of view. But if Alice ever got the pleasure of meeting Rhea, the gentler of the two rulers, she would understand her gracious attitude and loving demeanor that causes her to throw these kind of events.
However, it was neither the time nor the place to describe the rulers of Oncia to the stranger standing in front of her. After all, she was still a stranger, just one whom she shared a room with. Why would they need to justify their monarch's ways?
Fallon peered at the girl, with her messy brunette, caramel highlighted, hair and her curious eyes. "We should be leaving, in a minute, actually," she said as she turned her back to head back to her bed, grabbing the last of the things. They, being the trio, would grab an apple for the road and be on their way. What Alice did was up to her, Jilly wouldn't kick her out, that's for sure. However, Fallon kind figured she wanted to get going just as bad as the trio.
As she answered Alice, the boys had departed down the hall -- probably going to grab something to eat before heading out to the barn to grab the horses, and of course, give Peter some company before they departed for their trip back home.
"Well, it was a pleasure to meet you, Alice," Fallon gave a warm smile in her direction as she pulled on her coat. "If you want to grab breakfast from the open kitchen, Jilly would be more than happy to help you out but other than that, I wish you the best in your travels and I hope you find what you are looking for, whether that be a new home or a new adventure." She meant it, if Alice was truly facing what she said she was, then Fallon really meant it. She hated seeing other females forced into unwanted marriages, where they were not appreciated for who they are, where they are only cared for because they are females and, for the lack of a better term, breeding stock for their arranged marriage.
With her final words, she gave Alice a curt nod before walking through the open door and headed down the hallway.
Fallon could hear the faint laughter of her best friends in the kitchen, and the warm honey-like voice of Jilly. A warm cozy feeling washed over her as she approached the small dining area, "are the boys bugging you?" Fallon laughed softly, as she reached for a piece of toast sitting on a plate.
"Ouch," Sapph mocked as he accompanied his words with a dramatic eye roll; Fallon flashed him a vulgar gesture. Beryl quietly munched on a warm butter croissant, ignoring the two bickering back and forth.
Jilly gave a room-filling laugh, "well, I do hope you guys have safe travels back to the castle and please, make sure he accompanies you next time." Which all three of them nodded in agreement before bidding quickly farewells and heading out to the barn.
Another conversation, another farewell, with Jilly's son, Peter, and then they were off on their horses. "Let's go home, boys," Fallon gave a genuine laugh, she was ready to be home.

Alice Sondai princess of leogris
Alice knew very well to keep her thoughts hidden and to herself; fortunately she was well versed in keeping her thoughts to herself. It was part of being a princess, knowing how to hide her true emotions from anybody who may be looking for anything that shouldn’t be there. It had taken a long time for Alice to get the art of masking emotions down, but eventually years of agonizing and boring practice had won out. That didn’t mean she enjoyed hiding her emotions, that wasn’t the case by a long shot, but she knew how when the situation called for it; otherwise Alice liked to make it known that she was an expressive person. A rather expressive and opinionated one at that, but in most royal circles those two adjectives were not strengths nor were they desired. Even outside the royal circles many situations called for a mask and an expressionless visage. Topics such as a grand ball that the king and queen held should be spoken of in wonder and fascination - anything outside of that would not be tolerated and Alice knew that. So she held her tongue and put aside the expressions she could be making in favor of keeping the atmosphere civil and open. Maybe if she had more information on the kingdom and its rulers then her opinions on the matter would change, but for now she believed what she did and she would hold true to those thoughts even if she currently had to tuck them away. Her statement from earlier had been more than enough to get her thoughts across, but she knew to hide anything else and not continue on with the conversation. Besides, there were more important things at hand right now, like leaving before morning really did turn into noon.
Hearing that they would be leaving soon was a relief to Alice. She had enjoyed her stay at the inn for the night, and she had, overall, enjoyed the company and even the few minutes she had had with Jilly the night before, but the runaway princess was more than ready to be off.
A smile crossed her features when she heard Fallon speak up. She offered a nod of acknowledgment toward the other female. ”It was a pleasure meeting you as well. I wish you and your companions save travels, and who knows,” she started with a look of deep amusement in her amber gaze, ”maybe our paths will meet again in less rushed circumstances.” The chances of that were low, Alice knew that, but she wouldn’t say it was impossible to meet the other girl again. It would be nice as she had enjoyed Fallon’s company, and she was sure she would enjoy the other woman’s presence even more when they both weren’t rushing to leave.
After the farewells were made Alice made a quick trip to grab something to eat from the open kitchen. Jilly had been a wonderful hostess and Alice had made it known that she wished they had met under better circumstances as well. Once grabbing a quick breakfast to go and saying her goodbyes to Jilly, Alice made her way to the stables to grab her horse. Peter was there to help her and she gave her own farewells to the little boy as well once she was atop her horse. As soon as she was mounted up she clicked for the horse to go and off she went, back on the trail with ease.
The late morning had graced the land with a tinge of frost due to the cold night. The air was nippy for now, but the sunlight was thick and strong, and Alice knew it wouldn’t take long for the world around her to warm up into a comfortable temperature. The sky was clear, no clouds able to be spotted. Alice smiled. It was a good day for travel, and even if she had gotten a much later start than she had wanted if the day stayed like this travel shouldn’t be hard. She’d make up for lost time with ease.
Louisa was proving to be an amazing horse. As if she knew that they needed to make up lost time, the mare had set out at a nice pace, one that she could keep for a while but it was quick and smooth.
All was going well until a little after the sun had reached its zenith. Alice had reached a part of the trail that was flanked by tall, thick pines and cedars. The trail was still wide and well worn from other travelers, but it was covered in pine needles. At one point Louisa stiffened underneath Alice. Her ears pulled back and she gave a low snort of agitation. ”What is it, girl?” Alice leaned forward to stroke the mare’s neck and hopefully comfort her, but that didn’t seem to work. While Louisa had proved to be an amazing horse, the two weren’t completely bonded, and complete trust and reassurance had yet to be formed. Had there been a complete bond there Alice was sure what happened next wouldn’t have transpired, but there was no way she could have stopped it currently.
All of a sudden a thick bodied timber rattler shot forward in front of the mare’s hooves. It was large, potentially a giant female as there was no way she was anything under five feet in length. Fortunately she didn’t curl up to strike, but she had Louisa spooked enough that the mare reared back. She startled, giving one neat crow hop - Alice somehow managed to stay on - that landed her right in the tree line. The roan continued to stomp and move erratically, Alice doing all she could to get the equine to stop, but everything was in vain. It seemed like only seconds passed before Alice felt the mare give way beneath her and, with a sudden jerk Louisa was down and Alice came tumbling off her back. She rolled in the pines for a yard or two before coming to a stop. Luckily she wasn’t injured, a few scrapes and bumps and would definitely be sore in the morning, but she wasn’t worried about herself. She was worried about her mount.
As soon as Alice was back on her feet she rushed over to Louisa. The mare was still down, breathing labored and the whites of her eyes still showing. ”Easy, easy,” Alice breathed, slowly reaching out to pat the Ardennes. Eventually the mare settled enough for Alice to step back and assess the situation; she had to know just how bad Louisa was injured - there was no way she wasn’t considering she was still down and had yet to try and get back to her hooves.
It didn’t take long for the Leogris princess to realize what had happened - Louisa had jumped right into a hole and must have caught her foot. That was where she had tripped and tipped Alice off her back, and upon further inspection of the mare’s leg it was clear that nothing was broken, but a large chunk of the mare’s hoof had broken off and was now bloody. Immediately she knew there was no way Louisa would be able to comfortably walk until that hoof was tended to and grown back.
Alice let out a sigh. There was no way she was going to get back on the mare and force her to travel while injured, but Alice knew she couldn’t just stay out here on the trail for the rest of the day and, potentially, into the night. She glanced around. Surely somebody would travel down the road at some point today. It looked big enough to be a decently popular way to travel, so surely somebody would come along eventually and help Alice and her horse out.

Grayson Kersey crown price of the kingdom of oncia - ♕ - if i told you my secrets, you'd never look at me the same..
"Your majesty, we still have a day's travel back to the kingdom," the footman frowned as he answered the handsome prince's question. Unfortunately, the travels seemed to grow longer and longer as Grayson eagerly wished to stay within the kingdom walls. He knew he traveled for the benefit of his parents', so they wouldn't have to but he also hated doing it. Luckily for him, the annual celebration ball was coming up which meant no traveling for at least week time, which settled some of his restlessness.
"It's fine, Igor," Grayson mumbled as he looked at the men sitting on the back of the carriage, who both were looking at him with discomfort. The one who had answered him wore a simple outfit with a hat that covered his plump face. The other male was a bit larger and clearly in better shape but his face was of stone and he was basically mute -- at least, Grayson had never heard a word uttered for him. The two males were quite a pair but they were always his personal carriage's footmen. However, the prince tried to get them assigned to someone else because he never rode in the dang carriage, in fact, he hated it! He always felt he was suffocating within the small chamber and always rode his beautiful black clydesdale instead. His mother, the queen, insisted that even if he chose not to ride in the carriage, it shall still be apart of the traveling regiment. Also apart of the assigned team, there were three horseback soldiers, a horse drawn flatbed that hide supplies at the beginning of the trip that now was empty, and a small company of foot soldiers following the group.
Grayson's head shot up, pulling him from his train of thought, and he heard undistinguishable shouts from the front of the delegation. He ordered his own horse to push forward, past the carriage, and into the front of the line and clearly ignoring the shouts of protests from the soldiers behind him.
"Ma'am, are you okay?" One of the soldiers asked as he stayed on his horse; it was how they were trained. They weren't to dismount unless they knew there was no clear threat, a horse could take a lot more damage than that of a human body -- unfortunate, but true. Not all the soldiers were shifters either, some were born powerless but Oncia never discriminated.
Grayson's horse trotted closer before he pulled on the reins. A beautiful girl stood before them, and her injured horse was laying beside her. His cool blue eyes landed on the bloody hoof and a snake-like sound escape between his teeth. "Poor girl," the prince muttered. All the soldiers turned to look at him and he gave a soft shrug; she didn't scream danger but he has been wrong before, which is why he stayed behind the three other horse mounted soldiers. "Do you need help, m'lady?" His smooth and powerful voice sounded from atop his black beauty.

Alice Sondai princess of leogris
This was not good at all. Alice hadn't been prepared for her horse getting injured, and the more she thought about it the more she realized she should have been prepared for something like this. It just hadn't crossed her mind. Anytime she had traveled before this there would have been multiple horses, and if something happened to one there would always be somebody to make the situation better, but now Alice was on her own, and while she had a decent amount of horse knowledge, there was no way she would be able to fix the mare's hoof and get her sound again.
She hated feeling powerless. Alice had always been the type of person that stood up for herself, did what she wanted, and make the rules for herself as she went. She was stubborn and full of a fire that hated to be contained, and right now she was contained and stuck, unsure of what she could do. She'd have to wait to see if anybody would travel down this path before nightfall, and relying on that didn't settle right with her. Alice hated having to rely on others, but she wasn't dumb enough to try and push on. Louisa was too injured for that, and despite her independence and need to show that she could take care of herself, her horse's health came before her pride. Alice could swallow it down for Louisa.
With a sigh she made to sit down beside the horse, but just before she could the sound of hooves and wheels grabbed the princess's attention. Instantly Alice stood to her full height, amber eyes narrowing as she looked down the path. There, in the near distance, was a horse drawn carriage followed by a rather decent sized entourage. For a brief second Alice felt panic jolt through her. What if this was people from her kingdom coming to look for her? Had she already been caught? But no, the more she allowed herself to think things through the more she realized that this wasn't the typical search party, and this wasn't even people from her own kingdom. This had to be for a person important to the Oncia kingdom, and honestly, Alice wasn't sure if that was any better.
Once the initial panic had left her system, Alice held herself together rather well as she was questioned by one of the soldiers. She gave a nod. "I'm fine, but my horse...well," she stopped and gestured toward the mare who had yet to get back onto her hooves and was still laying down on the ground. That did worry Alice somewhat. A down horse was a dead one, and she'd hate to have to see Louisa be put down over something that could have been fixed if she had the right people.
It wasn't long until another man, this one being around the same age as Alice herself, strode forward atop a gorgeous black equine. The way he held himself reminded Alice of herself, and just his presence in general was commanding and powerful. If he wasn't the one this entourage was for then Alice would admit to making a fool of herself for assuming. "My horse is the one that needs help," she responded easily. There was no way she'd admit to needing help for herself, and Alice didn't think she necessarily did. Louisa was the one in trouble, not Alice. She wasn't the one with a bloodied foot after all.

Grayson Kersey crown price of the kingdom of oncia - ♕ - if i told you my secrets, you'd never look at me the same..
From atop of his horse, his blue gaze shifted from the girl to the fallen horse. Anyone could see that the mare was injured, but the extent of the injury was hidden in the pooling of blue around the hoof. Grayson let out a sharp hiss; it was no secret that a down horse was a dead horse. He kept his eyes upon the mare as he lifted himself from the saddle, swinging a long leg over the flank of his own black equine.
One of the horse mounted soldiers let out audible gasp as they watched their crown prince climb elegantly from his horse. "Sir, sir!" He exclaimed, pulling on the reigns of his own mount, causing the horse to block Grayson's path.
"It's okay," Grayson calmly commanded as he strolled forward towards the girl. He could sense her panic, she was more worried about her horse than she was about herself. That, in of itself, was a strange notion to me. Most cared about themselves, not the mounts they rode as they were merely a form of transportation within the kingdom. He was rather intrigued by her worry.
The soldiers bowed their heads but their eyes were trained upon the strutting male as he approached Alice. Grayson nodded to her, as if saying let me take a closer look - as if she had a choice in the matter. Regardless of his status, he tried to treat everyone in his kingdom with respect. He took a knee as he examined the roan mare. His large hand took her bloody hoof, running his fingers around the missing chunk. As if he was by himself, and not surrounded by his guards and a stranger, Grayson grimaced. "Poor girl, she is not going to be able to walk on this for a few days." His cool blue eyes shifted from the horse to the girl standing above him. He lowered the bloodied hoof before gracefully rising to his feet, his eyes never leaving Alice. She may not an immediate danger to him or his entourage, he has been wrong before, so he still maintain a safe distance and maintain a direct line of sight. "Well, she's not going to be doing much without the proper care." The dark hair male looked over his shoulder at the carriage before quickly glancing back, "we do have room on the flat carriage to haul your horse. Where are you headed?"
The soldiers looked uneasy as they watched their prince offer up their services, a few grumbles came from the carriage drivers. Grayson looked over his shoulder, narrowing his eyes in annoyance, before turning back to the girl. "I am sorry, I forgot to introduce myself," the prince smirked lightly, "I am Grayson."

Alice Sondai princess of leogris
Whoever this guy was he was important - too important. The way one of his guards acted as soon as he made his way off his horse told Alice everything she needed to know. This was a man who had a direct connection with Oncian royalty. This was somebody the tiger shifted needed to avoid, but Louisa was injured, and she wasn't about to abandon her horse. That was the last thing she would do.
Without meaning to Alice took a defensive posture, not daring to step away from her horse even as the man strode gracefully forward to get a look at the roan. Arms crossed across her chest she watched in silence, eyes narrowed. She had no idea who this man was - all she knew was that he was somebody of high importance - and she was in territory unknown to her. He could do anything to Louisa and she would have to simply accept it, and the idea that he could do anything to her horse and there would be no consequences sent a shiver down her spine. Alice couldn't detect any ill intentions coming from the man, but that didn't mean much. Somebody with high enough charisma could easily hide their true intentions, and considering how high of a rank this male had to be, his charisma had to be high.
In silence she stood, giving the man a little more space to check on the wounded mare that still lay on the ground. Louisa attempted to move as the stranger leaned down near her, but the mare faltered, simply staying put, a loud huff of air escaping her. It pained Alice to see the horse this way, agitated, frightened, but unable to get up and do anything about it. Such a strong horse, down because her rider hadn't been perceptive enough to what was right there on the road ahead. Anger toward herself bubbled up inside the princess. Had it not been for the man getting back up to his full height and speaking to her, Alice would have most certainly began to pace, giving away her frustrations to everybody.
She met the man's gaze, looking up at him with eyes still narrowed. While she appreciated that he was willing to help, this was still a stranger to her, a stranger that could clearly do whatever he pleased considering it was obvious he had the wealth to do so. "I was headed wherever the wind took me," she replied with a shrug, turning her gaze away from the man and back toward Louisa who now seemed as if she accepted her fate of not being able to get up on her own. A worried frown creased Alice's features. "But now it seems I must find somewhere to treat my horse. I assume you know where such a place can be found?" Alice turned her gaze back toward the male, worry still apparent on her face yet now with a dash of hope. She would be a fool to put all of her trust into this man and his entourage, but he was her only hope at the moment. A native to this land, he would be the one to know where to bring Louisa for the proper care.
It was then that he gave his name. Grayson. The runaway princess momentarily froze as realization hit her - was Grayson not the name of the Oncia prince? Despite the two kingdoms never intermingling much, if at all really, the names of those who were important were exchanged between the royals of each kingdom. If Alice remembered correctly the current king and queen's son - the heir to the throne - was named Grayson.
Alice shifted her stance, glancing back toward his party of guards. It was all starting to come together now, but rather than let it get to her, she snapped herself out of the panic that wanted to rise and steeled her nerves, standing tall as she dipped her head in thanks. She couldn't let herself appear fazed by the name - she had to play the part of somebody who would have no idea what sort of significance that name held. Besides, Grayson wasn't an entirely unique name. Perhaps this wasn't even the prince himself and merely a high ranking merchant that shared the name. Alice would certainly like to believe that was true. Dealing with a prince would be a whole new level of difficultly she did not want to deal with.
"It's a pleasure, Grayson. Louisa and I thank you." That was the truth at least. The tigress remained on guard, but help was help, and she'd do anything for the wounded mare. "I'm Alice, and, of course," she gestured toward the mare, "that's Louisa." Fortunately her name was common enough that it could be shared with anybody, and nobody outside of her own family and equine instructor would know of Louisa's name, so giving that away to this Grayson fellow would be of no consequence. No consequence at all.

Grayson Kersey crown price of the kingdom of oncia - ♕ - if i told you my secrets, you'd never look at me the same..
Grayson watched as the girl crossed and uncrossed her arms; she was displaying defensive behavior but that was predictable and somewhat expected in this situation. She was but a lone traveler in the vast kingdom of Oncia - she should stay on guard, regardless of who approached her. The crown prince ran his ungloved hand through his dark tussles before allowing himself to pull himself from his thoughts. Here he was critiquing the female's behavior, when he should be focused on getting back on the road. With the pace of the entourage, it would take them the rest of the day to get back to the castle and that was without breaks - which they were taking a big one right now.
So she was in fact traveling without destination, consider Grayson surprised. A pretty, and obviously well off, female wouldn't just be traveling with no end in sight … unless she was running from something. It reminded the dark haired prince of his spunky female friend - she too was running and had found shelter within the border of Oncia. Anyone else in the royal family may have questioned her motives, but not Grayson.
Her name slid from her soft pink lips with ease, and without much effort, she also introduced the fallen mare. Grayson felt his lips pull into a smirk, amused that she was so quick to introduce her horse - again, he observed the love she had for the equine and it was a strange thing to have occurred. Outside of his friends, and himself, no one seemed to have the same respect for the animals. "Nice to meet you, Alice," Grayson dipped his head with a formal respect before his cold gaze shifted to the roan mare, "Louisa is a perfect name for this beauty."
He heard a few shuffles behind him, the impatience of his soldiers wafting the area. "Sir, we need to get going if we are going to make it before nightfall," the head guard spoke as he rode up on his dark horse. Grayson nodded his head once again before facing Alice, his cold gaze swept over her well dressed body before reaching her eyes. "Our timeframe allows us little time to get you to any suitable timeframes, but we are headed towards the capital. I know of a good veterinarius," he spoke with authority as he strolled back to his massive black stallion. He glanced over his shoulder towards the soldiers, who immediately took action in sliding off their horses and gathering around Louisa.
The carriage driver yipped his own set of horses toward until the blanketed flatbed was lined up next to Louisa - it was going to take some effort to get the mare to stand up without putting weight on her shattered hoof. The soldiers didn't need any more direction as they shoved their own massive bodies beneath the large roan, and urged her to stand up. She started thrashing in fear and Grayson whistled loudly, grabbing everyone's attention. A quick and gruff command bellowed into the air, "Alice, please help calm your horse." Not that she probably wouldn't have done it herself, but Lousia was thrashing wildly and he did not need any of the men getting hurt; that would be another headache that he simply did not want to deal with. All he wanted was to get home.

Alice Sondai princess of leogris
Of course pleasantries would not last long. The shadows were growing longer as the sun began to lower itself closer and closer to the horizon. Nightfall would soon be upon them, and no telling what sort of nocturnal creatures made this forest their home. Grayson and his guards would be much more aware of what lurked in the growing shadows, but Alice was not, and she didn't trust staying out here any longer than she needed to - especially when her mare needed tending to as soon as possible.
With what little time they had left Alice knew she had no room to deny Grayson's offer of taking her to the capital. It was the last place she wanted to end up at, especially since she had run away from the royal life, but this wasn't about her. It was about Louisa. If going to the capital was the only choice they had now, then so be it. She'd simply leave once the mare was sound again. Plus, on the bright side of things, staying at the capital for some time would allow her plenty of options for stocking up her supplies before heading off once more.
Alice stood where she was, watching as the guards slid down from their seats and hustled toward Louisa. Even before the mare began to spook the tiger shifter was headed that way, her steps quickening when she could hear Louisa's breathing becoming labored and panicked.
She was already shooing away some of the guardsmen by the time Grayson called over to her. Had she not been trying to get to her horse she would have shot the man a glare, but her attention was focused only on Louisa, arms reaching out in an attempt to take the reigns that were still attached to the equine. "Whoah, easy girl. Steady," she cooed to the mare, careful as to not get in range of the horse's hoofs. "They're just trying to help." It took several moments, but eventually Louisa relented, looking too pained to struggle even longer. It was clear to Alice that her mare was still spooked, at least uneasy by all the strange new people that surrounded her, but the princess was finally able to get a hold of Louisa's reigns and halter, helping steady the mare as she finally pushed herself to her hooves. The mare refused to put any weight upon her injured hoof, but that was to be expected.
Once Louisa had settled enough as she could, Alice turned to the closest guard nearby. "I'm staying by her side to keep her calm. We need to move quickly, but at a pace Louisa can comfortably stay at." It was clear in the tone of her voice that she wasn't going to allow a pace faster than what her horse could keep up with. She realized they needed to make it to their destination as quickly as possible, but potentially injuring Louisa more in the process was the last thing Alice wanted.
