Hoenn was warm. Sinnoh certainly was no wintry wasteland, but the ferocity of the snows that swallowed up all things green and plummeted the temperatures were enough to drive anyone south for the winter, and Hoenn's climate called forth anyone who needed an escape from the cold. The gentle, sweet-smelling spring of Floaroma Town had been the most difficult thing to leave, but the way gardens flourished in the quaint little town of Dewford was convincing enough.
That, and it was a tremendously quiet little home. The only sounds were waves lapping against the shores, wingull calling in the distance, and the occasional chatter drifting up from the pier. Breeze, who was currently lounging in a sun-warmed patch of grass and thinking about nice weather, mumbled something incomprehensible to the Pokemon snoozing beside them. The small, fluffy togetic simply rolled over and huffed - a sound that most likely would have been "Hush, I'm sleeping!", if it could speak. He was near about there himself - he only wanted to stay awake a moment longer to enjoy the feeling of the sunshine.
It would be easy to drift off. Excitement came fairly exclusively from trainers challenging the gym or making a quick visit to catch Pokemon and explore the little seaside town. As far as Breeze was aware, there were no new trainers on their way or having arrived, so they decided it safe to sneak a midday nap before heading back home. Surely they wouldn't miss anything?
Although, he had a tendency to be wrong about those sorts of things. . .

Traveling between regions was no easy task. To adjust to a new place's customs, to learn where everything is located... it's stressful to say the least. But it was worth it to meet new people and new Pokémon - or at least, that's what Mizuki thought. Living in the mountainous and frosty Sinnoh her whole life, visiting a tropical place like Hoenn was somewhat of a shock. It had been a while now, but she didn't seem to be getting used to it at all...
Her next stop on her journey to see all there was to see in the Hoenn region was Granite Cave - a labyrinthian tunnel just north of Dewford Town. At the Pokémon Fan Club in Slateport, she had overheard talk of rare and interesting Pokémon in the cave, and immediately set out from the nearest dock. After all, caverns certainly were familiar to her roots.
As the ferry pulled up to the beaches of quaint island Dewford, Mizuki tossed her bag over her shoulder and took a breath of fresh air. She waved behind her as she stepped off of the boat onto the wooden boardwalk. A peculiar-looking Eevee followed intently, hopping down the steps to catch up to her. She looked around briefly in the middle of town to gather her bearings, before quickly pulling out a PokéNav and glaring down at the map screen...

The sharp blare of a boat's horn jolted Breeze out of an otherwise peaceful sleep. Even his Togetic, adoringly named Vanilla, hopped upwards, fluttering its wings and peering over to where the ferry was drifting towards the pier. He could hear the rush of water as it sidled up along the boardwalk and the captain's cheerful, booming voice from on the deck. He shot a surprised glance in Vanilla's direction, who gave him a curious tilt of its head in response.
Breeze rose slowly, stretching and mumbling something about feeling achy (yet finding no correlation in having slept on the ground), before Vanilla settled on his shoulder and the two of them took off towards the boardwalk. It was a swift run, save for the few times he nearly tripped over himself, and he skidded to a halt in front of the newcomer, spraying sand in all directions. They still felt somewhat silly and dizzy from the nap, but Breeze thought (or, hoped more like) that a good impression was within their grasp.
"Hello!" He chirped, throwing his hand out and offering it to shake. He sneaked a glance down at the fluffy, odd-looking Eevee that Vanilla had hopped down to greet and gasped, interrupting his own introduction. "You've got a shiny Eevee? That's amazing!" He dropped to his knees and reached to give the little Pokemon a friendly scratch under the chin. "What's their name? And, oh, uhm - " He grinned sheepishly as he stood back up. "Welcome to Dewford Town. . . I'm Breeze," He pointed to the Togetic that was back to fluttering calmly just above his head, "And that's Vanilla - it's nice to meet you!"

Mizuki looked over, surprised, at the person who rushed over to greet them. "Oh! Well, hello there. Um, I do..." She glanced down to her Eevee, who was already excited to meet new people. "You're definitely not the first one to have noticed. Her name is Rainbow." She leaned down and picked her up, placing the fluffy chirping Pokemon on her shoulder. She smiled and looked back over to Breeze. "Thank you very much... My name is Mizuki, but some people just call me Zoey, if you prefer." Mizuki held out a delicate hand to Breeze's Togetic, brushing its feathers lightly. "Vanilla is a sweet name for a Fairy-type like that! Do you two live around here?"

Breeze's grin grew impossibly brighter. "Rainbow's a great name!" He seemed to be very obviously resisting the urge to shower the little Pokemon in pats. Vanilla paused in hovering to stand precariously on the crown of his head, but he seemed rather used to it - seeing as he went on enthusiastically. "Mizuki! That's a nice name, too, and I don't think I've ever met any Zoey's before. Both nice names!"
He smiled when Mizuki brushed Vanilla's feathers and the Togetic chirped happily in response. "Thank you," He gave Vanilla's feathers an affectionate scratch, "And yes!" He whirled around to point to where the soft sands became lush green grass and a sparse gathering of short, leafy trees. The faint outline of a quaint little house, surrounded by flowers and berry plants, was visible in the distance. "We live just up there - you're welcome to stop by, if you like! What about you guys, though?" He and Vanilla both gave them curious looks. "Where are you from?"

Rainbow trilled hearing her name, and sat delicately on Mizuki's shoulder, fluffy tail swinging playfully. They both looked happy, but Mizuki didn't say anything more.
She peered over to where Breeze gestured to and saw a little inviting cottage surrounded by lush foliage. "Oh, that's nice! I do appreciate the offer, but to be honest, I'm just passing through right now... Um, I'll be sure to come back later, though." She smiled politely and folded her hands behind her back.
"Me? Ah, nowhere near here, actually," Mizuki replied, "I actually travelled all the way here from Sinnoh a little over a month ago. I'm just visiting, though... I came here to see new Pokémon..."

"No worries, no worries!" He said with a gentle clap of his hands. Vanilla nodded vigorously in agreement. "A lot of trainers pass through here for the gym or to catch Pokemon." Breeze made a vague gesture towards the direction of the gym, although he didn't point to much else - Dewford was rather small. "If you ever do stop by, though, both you and Rainbow are welcome to take what you like from the garden!"
They were content to listen quietly as Mizuki replied, but 'Sinnoh' sent off an orchestra of delighted alarm bells in Breeze's mind. "Sinnoh?" He cried, jumping forward so excitedly that Vanilla abandoned his perch atop his head. "What part?" He was grinning so widely it looked almost painful. Even Vanilla, who had settled himself more comfortably in Breeze's arms, was looking up expectantly. "We're from Sinnoh, too - Floaroma Town! How is everything? We moved here awhile ago now, but it's so easy to get homesick for the meadows sometimes! Did you ever get to visit them?" They had, evidently, not paused for breath even once and ended their sentence in a somewhat strained cough. "But, uhm, there are lots of new Pokemon to see then if that's why you're visiting," Breeze seemed to be settling back down, although it was mostly external - his mind was still buzzing with excitement at meeting someone from the same region as himself. "Have you gotten to see an Electrike yet? They're really cute!"

Her eyes widened in surprise as she listened. "You're from Sinnoh too?" A grin crossed her face. "I live back in Hearthome City, near Amity Square! Surely you've been there, right?" Rainbow scurried around excitedly behind Mizuki's head, chattering noisily. "I've been to Floaroma a few times, definitely - it's a nice change of pace from where I'm from... And so quiet, too."
"Hoenn has been nice... though I'm not sure if I can ever get used to the weather. I haven't seen a trace of fog since I got here!" She pouted and crossed her arms, before returning to a somewhat shy smile. "I visited mostly for the Pokemon, but truth be told, I've been getting sidetracked by the Contest Halls everywhere I go." Mizuki pointed over to Rainbow, whose collar was appropriately decorated with a spectrum of small ribbons. "I can't help it, I guess!"
She suddenly looked a lot more engaged at the mention of something unfamiliar. "Electrike? I don't believe so... what's that? Sounds like an Electric-type, to me."

"Yes, yes!" Breeze was all but leaping up and down as Mizuki went on. "I went there once and it was amazing," They paused to catch their breath and squint into the distance as if gathering up old memories. "Amity Square is so pretty, and there's so much to do in the city!" A calmer, wistful smile overtook his expression. "I'm glad you enjoyed your visits to Floaroma! It's not the same, but Dewford here is calm and quiet like that, too!"
At the mention of the weather, both Breeze and Vanilla laughed sympathetically. "Yeah, it's definitely a change from Sinnoh. . . It can be hard to adjust, especially if you don't like this sort of weather!" He leaned back and sighed contentedly, face upturned towards the sunshine for just a moment. "It's definitely the best ever if you like summer-y springtime kind of days, though! And, oh - !"
He clapped his hands together again and began bouncing on his heels excitedly. "Contests?" Breeze and Vanilla each leaned forwards to peer at Rainbow's collar, both letting out enthusiastic crows of delight. "Wow, you two are good at them! That's so cool, though, we've never entered a contest before, but. . . They seem really fun!"
Breeze nodded. "Uh-huh!" They fiddled with the ribbon on their wrist and sighed apologetically. "I wish I had some pictures of one to show you, buuut, you can find them right outside Slateport, I think! There's tons of cool Pokemon to meet here though, too - ever been to Granite Cave?"

She shuffled awkwardly for a moment and kicked around the sand by her shoes. "Oh, we're nothing special, really..." She said in an attempt to sound humble. Rainbow, on the other hand, seemed delighted to be praised. "Um... If you've never entered one before, I think you two would make a good pair if you did. I think you would like it!"
Mizuki listened carefully to what Breeze told her, and rushed to pull out a small tattered notebook and a pencil from her bag. The Eevee peered over her shoulder curiously as she intently scribbled down Electrike's name, along with Slateport City's. She looked up with surprise when she heard Granite Cave brought up. "Oh, that's actually where I was headed! I heard from the Pokémon Fan Club it was a good place to check out." She smiled and put the notebook back into its pocket. "You've already been there, I assume?"

Breeze gave them both a friendly, lop-sided smile. "Wow, thank you!" He ruffled some of Vanilla's feathers, who chattered at him happily in return. "D'you really think so? I always like to visit Slateport 'cause of the market. . . But maybe we could stop by the Contest Hall next time!"
Shuffling over to get a better look at what Mizuki was writing, they mumbled a quiet, "cool!", as she scribbled in the little notebook. He had never really been that efficient himself - catching Pokemon or finding them tended to be. . . accidental, in his case.
Breeze blinked in momentary surprise before his expression split into another grin. "Yeah! I've been a couple times. . . I even met a really friendly Mawile in there once. You'll like it," He said with a little hop in the cave's general direction, "We can show you around if you want! Plus, there's all sorts of neat rocks and stuff to find in there, too."
With Vanilla back to fluttering above his shoulder, Breeze took another couple steps towards Route 106. "It's a fairly short walk - oh! By the way," He tugged at one of the straps on his backpack and pointed at the sound of messily stored Pokeballs bumping around, "What sort of Pokemon are you wanting to see?"

"Of course!" She grinned at them. "If you ever decide to, I'll be there - either in the audience, or performing myself."
Mizuki nodded as she listened to him talk. She seemed to be taking mental notes of what he said every few seconds, suddenly focusing intensely on nothing at all for a moment, before coming back to reality briefly. As they walked up the beach towards the renowned cave, she suddenly realized she had been asked a question. "Huh? Oh, well, hmm..." She thought to herself. "I heard there were Steel-types in Granite Cave, like you said. Um... My Metang doesn't really get along with anyone else, so I thought maybe that would help." Mizuki scoffed, a little bit amused. "But in general, I'm more of a Ground- and Dark-type person... and there's quite a few around this region. What about you? Are you a Flying-type trainer?"

With the zest of ten party-goers, Breeze flung their hands out and gasped excitedly, "Oh, whoa! Imagine if we got to be in the same contest! Would it be bad to cheer you two on if we were competing?"
Breeze shuffled his feet for a moment, dislodging sand and stretching to pick up and fiddle with a few seashells scattered along the ground as he spoke. He wrinkled his nose and brought one up to his eye as if he might find a Pokemon curled snugly within the tiny confines. Upon finding it empty, he tossed it over to Mizuki with a grin. "You've got a Metang? That's really cool! I know you said it doesn't like anyone else, but, well, do you think I could say hello someday if that's okay with you both?" He and Vanilla each gave her equally enthused, pleading expressions, although Breeze was already springing back into relaying the excitements of Granite Cave. "Ground and dark types! There's Sableye in this cave, you'll love them! Have you ever met one before?"
"Sort of!" They chirped at Mizuki's question, tilting their head side to side and bouncing on each respective foot. "I definitely love flying types - I wanna meet an Altaria someday, or - or a Tropius!" Vanilla gave his feathers a proud little ruffle as Breeze praised flying type Pokemon. "But, I really love grass and normal types, too. I've got a Leafeon - maybe she and Rainbow could be friends someday!"

Mizuki laughed. "I don't know... I think it would be okay, but I don't know what the odds would be of that happening in the first place... Either way, I'll cheer you on too!"
She quickly caught the seashell in her hand, and almost seemed surprised that she did - coordination was not one of her strong suits. Inspecting it closely for a moment, she raised an eyebrow, before sneaking it into one of her jacket pockets. "I do! Um, well, I didn't catch it myself. It was given to me by a friend, and I think it's having a bit of trouble adjusting, is all." Mizuki gave a nervous chuckle. "It doesn't really seem to like anyone as much as him... but if you want to say hi, I'm sure it wouldn't mind the attention."
"I've heard of Sableye, but I've only ever seen pictures of them before I came here," she noted. "I saw someone with one back in Slateport just the other day. I used to be scared of them... but they're actually pretty cute in person!" As Breeze continued, Mizuki seemed intrigued by his type preferences - and Rainbow seemed to be getting excited at the mention of his Leafeon as a potential new friend. "Oh! Wow, it really seems like everyone's got an Eeveelution now..." Mizuki checked her notes again, and flipped to a particularly densely written page about them. "They're really a popular Pokémon choice. Not that I'd ever evolve Rainbow, though!" She reached up and patted the Eevee sitting on her shoulder. "I'd love to meet yours at some point, for sure!"

Breeze's resulting smile was blinding. "Thank you!" They patted Vanilla on the head and the little Togetic chirped a thanks as well. "Maybe I could tag along with you guys to Slateport next time you head up there, if you don't mind - we can enter the contests and cheer for each other!"
Nodding along intently, he sighed sympathetically as Mizuki explained the Metang's predicament. "That was so kind of your friend! I'm sorry your Metang's having trouble, though, it can be super hard getting used to all kinds'uh new stuff. I'm sure you two will be close as ever in no time, though!" He brought both hands up to his face and pressed the sides, humming a thoughtful little tune. "I'd like to, of course! Only if you're certain Metang's gonna be alright with it, though."
Breeze practically leaped upwards in excitement. "Right?" He made a wild gesture with his hands. "They're just the sweetest little Pokemon! Wanna catch one if we see one in the cave?" He answered with a good-natured laugh. "'Course! Eevee's an adorable Pokemon," He waved at Rainbow and smiled. He glanced at Mizuki's notebook again and could barely contain the enthused grin at the pages. "I can understand that, too! Vanilla here and I agreed he doesn't wanna evolve," He ensnared the Togetic in a hug as he spoke. "So everybody's got something in common, it looks like!" At Rainbow's excitement and Mizuki's agreement, both trainer and Pokemon were practically glowing. "Once we're out of the cave, you can meet her!"
Speaking of cave, the small group had happened upon the entrance during their conversation. The jagged opening in the rock loomed overhead, inky blackness of the interior spilling out into the sunlight. It was only a moment before Breeze began looking somewhat apprehensive.
"Uhm. Zoey," He turned to face her with wide eyes and a suspiciously sheepish expression. "I sort of forgot on the way over, but, uh, how are we going to see in there?"

"Sure! That sounds good to me. Though... now that I think about it, I was originally planning to head back to Slateport right after this..." She laughed it off somewhat timidly. "Um, but now that I know someone here, I might be sticking around a little longer. I just didn't plan to meet someone new today."
She shrugged and gave a sigh. "Maybe it misses him. I almost kind of feel bad..." She stared down at her shoes as she walked, a bit preoccupied by her thoughts. After a second, she finished her sentence and looked back up with a smile. "Well... I sure hope so! But I'm sure it would like you just fine."
"Oh, of course!" Mizuki answered cheerily. "I'll probably be catching one of everything in there if I can..." She nodded as Breeze spoke at length, an amused grin crossing her face as Vanilla got tangled into a hug. "Oh, are you sure? Well, I'm definitely looking forward to it, then!"
Rainbow peeped alertly, causing Mizuki to glance up and see the dark cave entrance overlooking them. The cold and craggy stone floors were bleak and uninviting - it seemed inhospitable to anyone but the Rock-types that dwelled there... Despite everything, she turned to Breeze with a smile on her face. "No worries. We can just get somebody to use Flash to light up the interior," she began, reaching towards a Premier Ball on her belt. "Though, I hope you're not easily frightened."

Breeze had all but cheered. "If you're staying a little while, we can show you around!" He made a vague, flopping hand gesture towards his home in the distance. "You can get some berries for the journey and see the garden, if you want!"
Breeze scrunched his face sympathetically. Poor Metang, he thought with a frown. I'm sure Mizuki'll help it cheer up, though! He jumped out of his thoughts when she spoke and smiled contentedly. "Awh, I'm happy to hear! Maybe someday when Metang's ready we can all hang out together."
Blinking in surprise, he tried to run through a mental list of all the Pokemon in the cave. He could only recall a handful, however that was still enough to impress him. "One of everything? That'll be a lot - good luck!" Vanilla had wriggled free of the hug by that point and returned to his favorite position of fluttering just above Breeze's head. "Me too! The whole team loves meeting new people, so it'll be really fun!"
"Awh, 'course not!" Lied Breeze with the finesse of a toddler caught red-handed in the cookie jar. Vanilla made a soft, snorting sound in response that may have been muffled laughter. "Or, uh, not mostly - just a little!" He nudged at the Togetic good-naturedly and gave Mizuki a nervous smile. "You're a life-saver, though, knowing a Pokemon that can use Flash! I kinda thought we would've had to walk around in the dark."

"Oh! Oh, right, I suppose I could now, huh..." She seemed to have already forgotten that he actually lived here, and looked around almost confusedly at their surroundings before shaking her head. "If we still have time, I wouldn't mind if you showed me around after!"
Mizuki stared off into the middle distance for a second, eyebrows furrowed in thought as she put a hand to her chin. "Maybe not everything, but..." She took it away and scratched the back of her head with a crooked smile on her face. "As much as I can carry, right?"
--===-- She suppressed a snicker. "Well... I believe you. But don't blame me if this guy catches you off-guard." Mizuki gave him a smirk, spinning the Premier Ball on her fingers before catching it. "Believe me, I've done that before. Bumping into walls all day and night is the only reason why I even taught somebody Flash to begin with..." She took a step back, motioning behind her with her free hand for a moment. "Okay then! Come on out!"
Throwing the ball into the air with a flourish, it burst open in a flash of light. It revealed itself to be a rather menacing green Pokemon, one that stood almost as tall as her. Beneath its faux hat, sunken yellow eyes glowed like flecks of fire, its face resembling a hollow scarecrow's. Mizuki crouched down a little bit to reach its eye level and smiled. "Cacturne, would you mind lighting up the way through this cave for us, please?" She pointed towards the dark entrance in front of them. The Pokemon gave a friendly rattling hiss and slowly turned towards the direction of her pointer finger. With a high-pitched sound, the light from its eyes suddenly intensified tenfold, projecting a ray almost akin to a flashlight onto the walls of the cavern. "Thanks a lot, Cacturne!" She patted the spiky top of its head, and turned back towards Breeze and Vanilla, with her hands on her hips triumphantly. She tipped her head briefly, as if to gesture into the rocky interior. "Well? Everyone ready now?"

"We're all set then," said Breeze with a lazy smile. He tilted his head back and squinted up at the sun, wrinkling his nose as if he hadn't expected it to bother his eyes. "I'm sure we'll have plenty of time, too!"
Instead of tilting his head curiously, Breeze leaned his whole body to the side and glanced up at her. "Right!" He agreed contentedly, standing back up straight and stretching. "I'm sure you'll catch plenty, and even if you can't get them all, you'll still be meeting tons of new Pokemon!"
Breeze had, unfortunately, overestimated himself. Despite a love for most all Pokemon (and especially grass types), the moment Cacturne emerged he sprang back with a high, panicked yelp. Vanilla rushed to give him a reassuring pat on the head despite his amusement. Hands still covering his face, he peeked through his fingers and sighed in relief when it struck him that no, the Cacturne was not making nefarious plots to attack him. He shook himself to clear his head and recollect himself. He stepped closer and dropped into a tentative crouch in front of Cacturne. "Well, you're kind of a scary one, huh?" He grinned, head tilting this way and that as he offered a hand in greeting to the strange Pokemon. "I'm sure you're very nice, though! Thanks for the help, too." Standing back up again, Breeze nodded enthusiastically in Mizuki's direction, Vanilla matching his excitement right alongside him. "Yeah!" He crowed, fright forgotten as the two of them scampered into the cave without much warning.
Each of their heads popped out of the entrance after a moment, wide-eyed and excited. "Come on! It's really cool in here, you're gonna love it! I can already hear little Pokemon sounds, so get ready!"

Mizuki chuckled as she saw Breeze jump in surprise in her peripheral vision. "Hey, I thought you said you weren't easily scared!" The Cacturne made a low growling sound as it walked over to her side, its Trainer giving it a friendly pat on the shoulder. It seemed to inspect the hand that Breeze held out towards it, carefully touching it in acknowledgment as to not prick him with spikes. "Don't worry, Cacturne isn't dangerous," Mizuki reassured him. "At least, most of the time..." She unnecessarily added the last part under her breath, with an impish look on her face, before shrugging her shoulders. "Well, no matter. Let's g--" Before she even got to finish her sentence, she realized that Breeze and his Pokemon had already ran past her, footsteps echoing throughout the cave. "Alright, alright! Wait for me, at least!" She quickly hurried after them, motioning behind her for Rainbow and Cacturne to follow.
--===-- Staring up at the stalactite-ridden ceiling, Mizuki slowly began to walk around Granite Cave with the others. She was looking back and forth meticulously between her surroundings, her notebook, and the PokeNav for a while, occasionally murmuring something inaudible as if to commit it to memory - before remembering that, oh yeah, she should probably... say something? She quickly stopped in her tracks and turned back around to face Breeze. "Well, this definitely is a lot more like the kinds of places I'm used to!" She smiled lightly. "Any idea where we should start, though? I can't seem to pull up a map of this place."

Breeze flashed a sheepish, although no less happy smile. "I might've stretched the truth a little," he conceded. He seemed to have already shed all his apprehension about Cacturne, however, because he was nearly jumping with delight when it calmly acknowledged him. He smiled gratefully at her reassurance, although he couldn't help the spark of worry at the last part Mizuki had tacked on.
Still, he could not find it in himself to linger on those worries, and as he leaned out of the cave with childlike glee, he grinned and waved at Mizuki and her team. "Don't worry!" He said, a little louder than he meant to. "We just wanted to see what it looks like, we won't go any further without you guys!"
As to not bother Mizuki while she worked, Breeze busied himself with exploration of the cave. Or, more realistically - in climbing on everything. While Vanilla fluttered and watched, he had chosen to make fruitless attempts in scrambling up every vertical surface within his grasp. It hadn't occurred to him that all his noise-making might be just as bothersome as showering his new friend with questions. At one point he had balanced himself precariously on one foot on a small boulder, hopping and wobbling in his attempts to stay upright. He sprang down from his perch when she spoke and bounded towards her.
"Uhm, well," he began with a nervous twist of the ribbon on his wrist, "I'm not really sure where to start. . . When I come here it's more of a, uh. . . Walk until you hit a dead end sort of way, y'know? But we can see now, so that probably makes a difference! I guess we just go wherever we feel like, if you want - or we can listen for Pokemon and follow the sounds!"

"Who's making all that noise?" Mizuki thought to herself. She glanced over to see Breeze attempting and failing to climb on top of a large rock, and Rainbow running at top speed in circles around it, collar jingling wildly, as if trying to start some kind of forbidden boulder ritual. She just as quickly decided to not look anymore.
"Hmm... well... there's a ladder leading underground over that way, from what I can see." She stood on her tiptoes and pointed over a rock formation, where, sure enough, there was a dark hole in the ground, leading into the maze-like lower levels. "That's probably where the rarer Pokemon are hiding. But if you don't want to get lost, I'm not sure if it's a great idea..."

Following Mizuki's lead, Breeze peered over the rocks, eyes widening when he saw the opening in the cave floor. Being a resident of Dewford, one might expect him to have intricate knowledge of Granite Cave's interior, however, most of his adventures were either in total darkness or incredibly short-lived. "Awh, nothing wrong with getting lost from time to time!" He chirped with the tone of someone who was most definitely going to get lost and didn't want to feel bad about it. "It makes exploring a little more exciting."
He and Vanilla scrambled over towards the ladder, although Breeze paused momentarily to grab a loose pebble from the ground. He gave Mizuki a curious look, rolling the little rock around in his hands. "Wanna go down there? I bet you're right about rare Pokemon, plus -" He paused mid-sentence and tossed the pebble to her. "Maybe we can find some cool stuff to collect!"

With a quaint smirk on her face, Mizuki thought over his words for a second before nodding in agreement. "Well, sure! You're right about that." Her gaze drifted somewhere else, into the middle distance. "Though... I would like to get back out again at some point. Let's not get ourselves completely lost if we can help it. Here..." She held up the notebook she carried, turning it around to show the pages. She pointed to a somewhat labyrinthine topographic map drawn in pencil, marked with symbols and various strings of writing denoting landmarks. "I'll try to make a map as we walk so we can find our way back to the entrance. I've already gotten the first floor, see?"
Watching Breeze make a run for the underground ladder, there was a moment where Mizuki almost thought he'd trip and fall in. That not being the case, she seemed a little surprised... Being tossed the small pebble as he spoke, she caught it in one hand, looking at it rather skeptically before putting it into the same pocket as the seashell from before. "Alright, you've convinced me. Come on, then!" She whistled and snapped her fingers for Rainbow and Cacturne to follow them, as they were beginning to wander off on their own. She turned back around and motioned with a nonchalant wave of her hand. "Go ahead, Breeze, you can lead the way."

Breeze tapped his foot and nodded. He supposed Mizuki was right - she had places to go, too. It wouldn't be a very good idea to get lost in a cave while on a schedule. He stifled a gasp when she pulled out the map, gaze tracing over the intricate lines, and while he wasn't particularly registering them - Breeze still found it mesmerizing. "Wow!" He breathed. "That's amazing you can just. . . Make that! I bet you never get lost, huh?"
Breeze and Vanilla were all but dancing around the ladder as Mizuki caught up to them. It was somewhat foreboding to peer into the darkness below, but the prospect of adventure (without getting lost and being able to see this time) had swept away his fears. "You really mean it?" He said with an excited bubble of laughter. "Thank you a whole bunch - I promise we won't get us lost!" With that he had twirled around on his heel, peered down the ladder, and then clumsily hopped down to begin scrambling to the lower floors.
As he reached the bottom, Vanilla hovering anxiously above his head, Breeze leaned away from the ladder and squinted in the darkness. Probably not that far, he thought with a mischievous little bounce on one of the rungs. He hopped off and yelped when he realized he had misjudged the distance, which sent him tumbling across the cave floor. Unharmed and a little embarrassed, he sprang back to his feet with Vanilla giggling at his side and called up to Mizuki. "Come on!"

Suddenly overcome by a wave of shyness, Mizuki hastily pulled her hand back and looked over the map herself. "Well... I guess so. I'm glad you think so..." She cracked a crooked and somewhat noncommittal smile, before snapping the notebook shut again. "I try not to get lost, but I have no say in the matter most of the time..."
As she rather nervously watched Breeze climb down the ladder, she looked further down into the depths and noted that she couldn't see the floor beneath it. She held back a grimace as her eyes widened, wondering if it actually was a good idea to do this after all. Meanwhile, her two Pokemon peered over her shoulders, intrigued.
However, hearing a thud as Breeze hit the cavern floor, she flinched and startled the both of them. Cacturne then stepped forward and looked curiously down the hole. Its eyes shined light down into the passageway, illuminating the seemingly endless darkness into nothing. Mizuki took a step back as she heard Breeze's voice echo from the lower levels. "Um..." She chuckled and cleared her throat. "Be there in a second! It's just that, uh..." She cautiously inched forwards and peeked down at him from above. "Heights... aren't really... my thing. I probably should have told you beforehand..."

Breeze wrinkled his nose sympathetically. "I guess you're right! Sometimes getting lost just sneaks up on you, huh?" He flashed a wide, toothy grin. "Hopefully not this time, though!"
The dawning realization of "oops" crashed over Breeze like a furious tidal wave. He squinted against the brightness pooling in from above, a worried frown etched across his face. Guilt clawed at him. He should have been a little gentler in asking - a little less noisy about urging everyone into the lower levels of the cave. A fear of heights could be a terrible adversary, couldn't it? Breeze edged closer to the ladder, peering up at his friend with wide, anxious eyes. "Uhm, hey, are you gonna be okay?" He twisted the soft edges of his ribbon in his fingers as he spoke. "If you want, maybe Vanilla can help you get down? He's really good at helping people stay calm. . . Or - Well, or I could come back up?" His voice fell soft as he went on. "I don't wanna make you do anything scary, and I'm sure there's plenty other parts of the cave to explore. . ."
