IntroThere is something in these woods-
They say if you pick a trail and follow it, it will lead you to what you need. It's not always what you want. You have to walk through the darkness- every pawstep will be terrifying, that is fact. But true courage is continuing on despite your fear, is it not?
There are whispers in the wind, murmurs in the rustles of the leaves, heart beats in the chimes. It can be overwhelming to those of even the dullest of senses, and there is good reason to be afraid. This place will hurt you first-
Before it can heal you.
And the creatures that live here understand that. And you, some part of you, must have as well, right? Otherwise, you wouldn't have found your way here, miles into the deep and wandering. Trusting the path to take you where you need to be. Your breastbone beats with frantic hummingbird beats, your fear tangible in the air. You try to comfort yourself through bravery- this is nothing compared to what you came from. You could handle this- you couldn't go back. Every step you take is unfathomable, and for the briefest of moments, your nightmares get the better of you and you turn around. There is nothing but black-wood behind you, around you. You are so terribly lost, and you are afraid.
But no matter where you look, you cannot find your way back to the open plains you'd come from at the edge of the forest. It has you deep in its clutches and there is no turning back, but you stray anyway. Feel brambles tear through your fur as you flee your chosen trail, the branches clawing their fingers against your skin. There is a roar in your heart, in the trees as they creak and groan about your failure. Sounding the alarms for the keepers of the land to bear down your back, and if you focus past the blood rushing in your ears, it feels like hot breaths on your heels. There are teeth coming for you, because you strayed.
" Breathe. "The voice that speaks seems as clear as the daylight you're so desperately searching for, it stops you dead in your tracks and you are left, heaving and panting and shivering, in the middle of trees that know you, but you do not know. Your heart is an anvil in your head, counting down the seconds to your death that was surely to come soon, so very soon. And you close your eyes, brace yourself for it- But nothing comes. Except for the voice, again,
" You are not the first to fall victim to the fear, and you won't be the last. Just breathe, and look. You will see what you are searching for here. Don't let the darkness fool you- it is your friend, not your enemy. "You are afraid. But you blink open your eyes open anyway, slow, wary-like. There is nothing but ebony around you, barely the silhouettes of trees visible, and you shake in your skin as you wish you'd stayed on your trail. You see now, understand now, that it would have taken you where you needed to be, if you'd only trusted it. But you obey the voice, you do as you are told. Slowly, you look around, letting your breathing slow, letting everything slow down. It takes a moment, but in the corner of your eye, you see it-
Above you, there is indeed, a cloud-laden blue sky stroked with sunshine in a patterning of gaps in the overarching trees. It looked like someone had taken claws through an inky-black curtain, threading holes, to show the sky on the other side .
The sunlight, the weak rays that they were, teasingly stroke your face and say- See? There is nothing to be afraid of, silly!
" Much better. "The voice sounds closer now and, when you squint and search, there is something that glimmers in your vision. There is a pair of eyes- no, multiple eyes- all around you. A sweeping glance and they look like stars studding the night, and you wonder, if this is what it would be like to stand in Silverpelt's embrace. There is someone closer to you than the rest, gaze brightly-lit like twin candles in the dark, like sap-resin backlit by a sunset's vermillion glow. They shift, come closer still, and in your vision there swims a head, a body, that appeared like the dawn and the dusk had come together into one. Every step was like watching the darkness become corporeal, like the black itself was a part of her, and she of it. She appraises you, looks you up and down, and there is silence for a long stretch. The other eyes only blink. You manage a shaking swallow and her smile is not unkind, and there is something like exasperation in her eye, like she was peering at a child. Like this was not the first time she'd done this. She leans forward, close to your face, to stare directly into your gaze, and you find you cannot move nor look away. A beat. And then she pulls away, slow. " ... How about you come with us? We will take care of you before you continue your travels. Or you may stay, we will see. "You try to form words, try to explain, as she turns her back on you and flicks her tail, and you grapple with getting your tongue untied as you watch the constellations around you shift and disappear into the inky-black. But before you can manage anything, she tosses a look back over her shoulder, speaks quietly- " You are not the only traveler who has not repaid their debts. "The curve of her maw is sincere, knowing, and you cannot speak. She beckons you to follow as she merges once again with the darkness and you hesitate a moment, glancing at the little pieces of the sky you can see through the canopy. It seems to smile at you. And you follow. And you follow. AboutAs the battle for the soul of NightmareClan ended and the spirit of the forest was banished, the surviving warriors reached the decision to begin anew. No longer was the forest plagued by their worst fears, and no longer did they have to fear the monsters that lurked in the shadows. To move on, they decided, change was needed. And so they changed. NightmareClan died, and in its place rose the Vipers of the Lilies.
Five generations have passed. The island has changed. The Clan has new blood. Countless stories have been lost. The past has been forgotten. The forest seems to have shifted to a new path of helping lost travelers find their way. But just because history has been forgotten, doesn't mean it never happened.
The nightmares are returning, and nobody knows how to stop them. Rules• Follow forum rules • Don't godmod or powerplay • Keep it clean • Be nice to everyone • Kit stealing is cool just ask first • Use some form of parenthesis to separate ooc and rp • If you aren't part of the Clan keep spam to a minimum Code• Defend your Clan. • The leader has the final say in major decisions, though everyone may share their input. • When a cat dies a silent vigil will be held for one night. • If you find that your path leads away from the Clan, your decision will be honored. • If you leave the Clan, you must keep everything about it a secret. Only those who are meant to find us, will. • Upon finding strangers, watch them until the time is right to reveal yourself and offer assistance. The forest will tell you when. • Do not try to falsify or alter a Clanmate's path. This goes against the will of the ancestors and is punishable by banishment. TerritoryThe forest is located on a small island in the ocean about a mile from the southwest tip of South America. The island used to be whole, but due to a recent earthquake and a couple tsunamis, the island has now been divided in two. Tsunami Island has, over the years, been rendered unreachable by the cats. The camp is in an open roof cave. It used to be just a cave, but eventually the roof collapsed, so now the camp is open to the sky. The tunnel leading into the cave is big enough for two full grown cats to walk through side-by-side comfortably. There is another tunnel hidden behind the leaders den, of which only the leader knows about for now. Landmarks• Cliffs: The entire island is surrounded by cliffs. Most parts are steep and dangerous, but some parts are climbable. • Sandy Patch: Area by the river where apprentices can battle train. • Storm Pool: A small pool formed after the tsunami. Good source of fresh water and fills up when it rains. • Tsunami Island: Used to be part of the main island, but got broken off during the earthquake. Unreachable. • Dark Stones: A few black rocks that create a small cave in the center. This is where the medicine cats and the leader speak to the ancestors. • Shipwreck: An old pirating ship that crashed into the cliffs during a storm moons ago. It is more than half submerged and inaccessible. All twolegs aboard it died, though some cats survived and made it to the island. Joining FormWe are always accepting new members. Please post your joining form on the Joining Page. We will be more than happy to get you up to speed with what is going on in the rp. Prophecieswip Plotlines• It's been five generations since the great battle where Night was banished and the forest cleansed of him and his nightmares. Over this time, history has been forgotten and nobody remembers NightmareClan. Now, however, apprentices are beginning to see things in the forest that shouldn't exist outside their darkest dreams. Cicadapaw, Blinkpaw, Sunpaw, and Birdpaw (wip) are these apprentices and they need to figure out what is going on.

Leader
Eclipsestar | 30 | She's beauty, she's grace, she can and will punch you in the face. Despite her title and the implications of such a grand name, she is rather small in size, but still well-muscled, broad-shoulder and with an attractively graceful figure. A caliby, her pelt is a golden-orange tabby shade marked by black patches all over- there is very minimal white dabbing stomach and legs, and she has burning, pale golden eyes that appear almost white. A natural leader, she does everything for her clan and is a well-known protector, but also a responsible and relatively friendly feline who likes to spend her days overseeing her clanmates or mingling amongst them giving advice and keeping up on the gossip. A young single mother, she takes all of her duties very seriously, and tries to keep a good eye on everyone in the clan and beyond. She fears losing her children, Foxpaw and Cicadapaw. She is a descendant of the ancient NightmareClan cats, Coldstar and Mouseclaw. | ᴘ å s ᴋ ᴇ ʟ ɪ ʟ ᴊ ᴇ »
Deputy
Waterstripe | 45 | A pale grey tabby and white tomcat with light green eyes and long white whiskers. Waterstripe is a noble cat, loyal and proud to defend the code of his Clan. He has lived no where else in his lifetime, and knows nothing beyond what his Clan and its island has taught him, making him naive at times. He is often sought out as a mediator, less because he is good at keeping the peace and more so because he becomes so interested in the new information presented by both parties that he is genuinely fascinated by the opposing sides. This also means that the poor cat is indecisive when it comes to forming his own opinions, though it does not affect his ability to serve out his duties as deputy under Eclispestar. His worst fear is being caught in an unfamiliar environment with his Clan depending on him. | Moonstar of ValleyClan
Medicine Cat
Mousefall | Mousefall is a small brown tabby tom, with stripes blending down his side into spots on his belly. His right eye is white and clouded over completely, which means he has less depth perception compared to fully sighted cats, and is slightly less effective at hunting and fighting because of it. He’s relatively new to the clan - he showed up shaken and wounded on their doorstep about four moons back, and immediately began trying to make himself useful by using his considerable medical knowledge for the good of the clan. He doesn’t speak much about his past, preferring to live in the present as much as possible, but he has eluded to a “tragedy” that brought him to his current position. He’s naturally a cautious, timid sort of cat, and somewhat insecure about his position in the group, but he is a genuinely kind individual who seems to seriously want to fit in and help his new clanmates. His worst fear is war. | <Raintalon>
Medicine Cat Apprentice
Sunpaw | 8 | A golden, feathery furred cat. Their muzzle, chest, right front paw, and underside of their tail are white. Dark brown spots cover their body, and a solid line follows their spine from the base of their skull to the base of their tail. Their eyes are a burning orange gold that always seem a little too intense. Sunpaw is all long limbs and regal bearing, though anyone who knows them knows that their appearance is deceptive. A decided chatterbox, Sunpaw is easy to get along with. They love talking and joking and are always ready to smile. Believing in second chances for everyone, Sunpaw does their best to always find the silver lining and trust in others because they truly want to believe that everyone has some good in their heart. They fear the Ancestors deciding that they aren't fit to be a medicine cat, as that has been their dream all their life. Their sibling is Patchpaw and they are descendants of the ancient NightmareClan cats Foxflight and Silencedcry. | Iceclaw
Warriors
Sleepyspider | 20 | A near-black smoke cat with dark russet-red tint that is covered in piebald white patchwork that is heavy on his stomach and chest but keeping his face dark with very pale, almost white blue eyes. Another tall boy, he has a good muscle-mass to him, and his large ears tend to flop over his forehead. This guy could spent all day lounging in a wheat field, watching the clouds float by. Laid back and a natural tease, he tends to be a sweet-talking flirt, but is overall one of the most aloof and hard-to-read cats you've ever met. His reputation for being mysterious and intangible far precedes him. He fears dragging a good cat down the "bad path" with him. He is distantly related to Cicadapaw, Foxpaw, and Morningpaw. He is a descendant of the ancient NightmareClan cat, Foggedgaze, and the banished spirit Night who possessed Scarsoul's body. | ᴘ å s ᴋ ᴇ ʟ ɪ ʟ ᴊ ᴇ »
Cougargrowl | 45 | A masculine of huge stature who easily towers over the majority if not all of his clanmates. Over this figure runs a coat of velvet skin and medium, kinked pelage that briefly thickens during the wintery moons, that notably puffs out at his muzzle like a mustache-beard, and overall looks like messy curls. The color is a soft lavender-cream grey that is solid throughout his coat, broken only by piebald-like white fountain spouts of markings that envelope his chest and splash beneath his chin and on his paws. He has soft olive yellow-green shaded eyes, one of which is near swollen shut with scar tissue (though he can still see). At his throat starts a massive, long scar that curls from one side of his jugular to the other to then travel over the left side of his neck and continue to bow around his shoulder and end behind his left shoulder blade. Other various scars shade across his body. For personality, Cougargrowl has always been dubbed the quiet protector. Passion simmers beneath his refined and gently aloof exterior and he is incredibly perceptive and knowledgeable. However, he is difficult to understand or get to know with his enigmatic tendency, and he has been known to be blunt and stern. A salty sea dog through-and-through, he tends to want to be by himself near the ocean, and tends to be sarcastic and crass in speech. He fears losing someone he loves again. He came from the shipwreck long ago with his crew and joined Vipers of the Lilies because of his admiration for Eclipsestar and the clan's shrouded history and strange woods that peaked what's left of his adventurous spirit. | ᴘ å s ᴋ ᴇ ʟ ɪ ʟ ᴊ ᴇ »
Lichenspot | 26 | A muscular, lithe tomcat with amber eyes. He has thick black fur with a white chest, underbelly, paws, and tail tip. Lichenspot is a newer warrior, and is desperate to prove himself to his more experienced Clanmates. His brother from a younger litter, Blinkpaw, is one of his main priorities. Lichenspot is fiercely protective of his brother, even stepping on Blinkpaw’s toes and attempting to control his life. This is a common behavior for Lichenspot, as he has an arrogant streak that makes him believe he knows what’s best for everyone else, contrary to what they make think themselves. This arrogant side of the tomcat is tempered by the fact that everything Lichenspot does is because he cares... although he may care a bit too much. Lichenspot’s worst fear is losing his brother. He is a distant relative of two ancient NightmareClan cats, Moonfrost and Grassstorm. | Moonstar of ValleyClan
Ferngaze | 21 | A slender dark grey-brown she-cat with brilliant green eyes. She has faint tabby stripes and a black tail tip. A newly minted warrior, Ferngaze still retains the optimism and excitement of an apprentice. This is clear in her friendly, bubbly personality. Ferngaze believes no cat can do wrong, and this is her downfall as she may shower her kindness and affection on a cat who is less than deserving of the young cat’s loyalty. Her worst fear is drowning thanks to a swimming incident when she was an apprentice. | Moonstar of ValleyClan
Pigeonflutter | 60 | A fluffy bluish grey tabby she-cat with light blue eyes. Her tabby stripes are faint, only a few shades darker than the rest of her fur, and both front paws are white. Pigeonflutter is a well-established warrior, and tends towards the more traditional side of things. She dislikes extensive change as it disrupts the flow of her life, which she sees as strictly planned out. This can make her quite small minded, resistant to new ideas, but it also means she is one of the fiercest defenders of the Clan’s values and has mentored several apprentices because of this. Her worst fear is heights. | Moonstar of ValleyClan
Saltsong | 39 | A stocky, short furred blue/gray she cat dusted with white. Her ears and muzzle are scarred, as are her shoulders. Her eyes are deep blue. Saltsong's bite and bark are both equally as bad. She has a very short temper and generally prefers to be alone as she finds company grating. She came from the shipwreck and stayed because she didn't see any way to get back to life on the sea, and also because she didn't want to leave her few friends alone with these strange cats. At heart she knows she belongs out on the water and she misses it terribly, not that she would ever admit it to anyone except perhaps Cougargrowl, as he's the only one who would understand. Before the ship crashed, she had been one of the cats the crew kept around to keep the ship free of rats and other pests, and a favorite especially of the captain. She fears never getting to return to the ocean. | Iceclaw
Cocoafur | 37 | A small tom speckled with all shades of brown. His eyes are a deep brown. Cocoafur has a very sweet, caring disposition. Likely one of the easiest cats in the Clan to befriend, he is always glad to lend a helping paw to anyone. He would have been a medicine cat had it not been for his severe aversion to blood and injuries. While he does harbor a bit of guilty about not being able to help his Clan in that way, he has dedicated himself to being a peacemaker of sorts, and helping his Clanmates find their paths. He fears severe injuries and death. He is a descendant of Ebonystar and Breezeleap and brother of Aspenfrost. He has an interest in Cougargrowl that borders on a crush | Iceclaw
Aspenfrost | 37 | A small tortoiseshell she cat with white patches. Her eyes are a golden brown. Aspenfrost is a touch colder than her brother, Cocoafur and fiercely protective of him. While she is still kind, she harbors a bit of wariness and takes most things with a grain of salt in order to try not to be fooled by others. She has a severe disliking for those who manipulate others, and would like to confront them if it didn't make her so nervous. Due to this, she tends to keep out of other cats' business because she would rather not know. She fears being betrayed and losing her brother. She is a descendant of Ebonystar and Breezeleap and sister of Cocoafur. | Iceclaw
Cricketfrost | Cricketfrost is an orange tabby cat with dark, almost reddish stripes and swirls that make up a truly striking coat pattern. They have some white on their chest and face as well, and their eyes are a dark orange that differs only slightly from their coat color. They have no tail, and tell anyone who asks about it only that it was “lost at sea”, though it’s not clear whether or not they’re joking. They’re tall, but slight of frame, even to the point of looking frail. They joined Vipers of the Lilies because they didn’t want to be separated from the cats they’d known on board the ship, but aside from that, they have yet to feel any real ties to the clan itself. They see the world in stark, neutral tones - as cold, gray, and violent - and much of their outward personality is an attempt not to emulate this. They’re very loyal to Cougargrowl, and would probably take off a cat’s head for him. Despite their warm, playful exterior, they have very little natural empathy. This results in being able to keep their head nearly effortlessly in the most stressful of situations, but the price of this skill is that they can be distant and tend not to bond on a deep level with other cats. Their worst fear is drowning. | <Raintalon>
Ryetooth | 25 | A large brown tabby tom with amber eyes. His canines are longer than average and are reminiscent of a saber toothed cat. Despite the fearsome appearance, Ryetooth is an old soul. He takes life slowly, making sure he has ample time to stop and smell the roses. He is near impossible to anger, and always appears to have a secret or a story lingering in the glint of his eye. He does not enjoy trouble or excitement, and would be most content with a slow, easy life that he could take day to day. He fears war. Brother to Liontail | Iceclaw
Liontail | 25 | Liontail is very large brown tabby tom with a fluffy coat and a bushy tail. He has dark green eyes. Gentle and a bit shy, some would say that Liontail was never cut out to be a warrior. He enjoys the company his clanmates, but often lags behind on their adventures, hesitant to involve himself in more than a superficial sense. He’s a bit odd, always lost in some whimsical line of thought that rarely makes sense to others if spoken out loud, which may be why his observations often go unsaid. He’s incredibly intelligent, and that trait combined with his slow and steady way of approaching the world makes him excellent at problem solving, if a bit of a disaster when it comes to combat. His worst fear is a slow death. Brother to Ryetooth | <Raintalon>
Shivermask | 20 | A lanky black and white tuxedo she cat. Her paws are white, as is her chest and a stripe up her muzzle. Her eyes are pale yellow. She is very jumpy and nervous, though she rarely speaks so as to hide her anxiety. When she does speak, it is incredibly soft spoken. She is extremely nonconfrontational, and will keep any secret, no matter how dark for fear that speaking it will come back to bite her. She feels most free when she is alone on the cliffs, exploring the old tunnels and caves. One day she wishes to leave the Clan and set out on her own, though she worries about leaving her sister behind. She fears being scrutinized. Sister to Moonflower | Iceclaw
Moonflower | 20 | A short-haired she-cat with black and white tuxedo markings, coarse fur, and a long thin tail. Her eyes are a dark olive green, and her claws are short and especially sharp due to her habit of sharpening them on everything around her. She’s a fierce warrior and quite confident, oftentimes trusting her gut above all else. She takes her loyalty to the Vipers of the Lilies very seriously and tends to love the idea of the group more than the individuals, so that she can lose sight of the trees for the forest. She has a sharp, dry tongue and a quick temper, and when she’s angry she’s like a tornado; fast and destructive and impossible to talk to. She fears losing control of herself and hurting someone by accident. Shivermask is her sister | ®Hawkpath®
Nettlefang | 32 | A long-haired cat with all black fur and huge, bright ice blue eyes that give them the impression of a midnight in the dead of winter. They have long claws and big ears, and their tail seems to move almost with a mind of its own, snaking into dens and brushing under other cats noses in a way that makes it very hard not to sneeze. They like puzzles, and other cats are as puzzling as it gets. Intensely curious and apparently little care for their safety, they love the thrill of hunting and the feeling of falling, especially when they learn something at the same time their paws leave the tree. Their mind and body seem to be connected: when they’re excited, they’re hyper and can’t sit still, when they’re upset you might not see them for days. Interacting with other cats is easy for them, as long as they don’t have to talk about anything they actually care about. Lucky for them, they don’t care about much, being new and having never spoken to Cougargrowl. They fear being paralyzed. | ®Hawkpath®
Badgerdusk | 30 | Badgerdusk is a large tom with thick, often messy fur and orange eyes. His main fur color is a plain tan color, with ruddy brown lynx points and a gray stripe down his spine. He has a ragged scar on his left shoulder and left thigh as well as nicks in both of his ears and three small scars on the bridge of his nose from fights as a warrior. Badgerdusk is a strong cat, in terms of personality. He is stubborn and doesn't give up easily, especially if another cat tries to tell him that he can't. He is relatively kind for the most part, and enjoys spending time with kits and apprentices alike. As long as you don't wake him up. Waking him up would be like waking up a badger and poking it with a stick. | Novice Creeps
Sunflowergrin | 25 | There is something about her that looks foreign, attune to nature and the woods surrounding the clan in a way that is difficult to understand, as though it created her and she it. Willowy but well-muscled, she has a compact and athletic figure primed for living out in the harshness of the forested island. Her base shade is something of a light russet-cream shade with ivories and sands, otherwise known as snow sepia, darkening slightly as points at her face, legs, and tail, like sunlight dappling the forest floor. Covering her body is a patterning of spotted rosette markings that are a dark seal in color- most notably, it dabs the edges of the lips, making her mouth almost cartoonishly black in comparison to the rest of her. There is a brush of white that dabbles her chin and her back paws, accentuating the brightness of her green eyes, both of which have a heavy clustering of yellow-gold speckles around the irises. This molly is whimsical and airy in her manners, though consistently friendly and a sweet-hearted cat, and a terribly hopeless romantic. Her tongue is as gentle as her soul, fiercely attached to friends and family, and she has an incredible passion for those in need and would willingly give herself for the sake of others- and, as such, she can easily wear herself out, become exhausted and stressed, and is prone to some instances of sharp temper flares. But there is something in her, beneath the surface, that speaks of someone dangerous who is capable of terrible things despite her outwardly warm appearance. She fears that her family comes after her and kills her siblings. Sunflowergrin is the oldest amongst her siblings, Dandelionblood and Hellebore-eyes. She and her siblings came to the clan when she was only 15 moons old after having run from their curse-believing, sacrificing zealot family. | ᴘ å s ᴋ ᴇ ʟ ɪ ʟ ᴊ ᴇ »
Dandelionblood | 25 | This feline looks, for all extensive purposes, someone exotic and with blood far away from the island's common gene pool. With a lean, muscle-corded figure, his stalking gait and well-set shoulders speak of high breeding, with a rounded face and wide-set eyes. His entire fur is marked like the setting sun, swathed in red- burnt oranges, warm browns, and scarlet spices that lightens a touch at the face and underbelly, darkening at the back of his head and dorsal line. Across this base pattern is what sets him apart- there are dark chocolate spotted rosettes covering him, creating a slight mask around his eyes- those of which are a bright golden shade that has a hue of blood-red around the edges. Quite a beautiful-looking cat, his personality is something... strange, to say the least, just like his siblings. Appearing regal and charismatic on the outside and in most social situations, there is an undercurrent of instability in his heart that seeps out the cracks. The truth is that he is incredibly neurotic and paranoid, plagued by auditory and visual hallucinations, and scarred from his childhood bloodshed he was forced to participate in. Although he can operate independently or on a team and is a relatively responsible and dutiful cat, he is sensitive and has consistent aggression issues, leading him to be unpredictable, volatile, and reactionary. For the most part, he can hide it behind a knowing charm and can keep a terrifyingly cool head under stress, but once specifically and particularly set off by something, he can skitter off into the abyss and become a liability for a period of time. The things he believes "following him" become real and destroy him; essentially succumbing to his own paranoia and unable to return. Dandelionblood is the middle child amongst his siblings, Sunflowergrin and Hellebore-eyes. He and his siblings came to the clan when he was only 15 moons old after having run from their curse-believing, sacrificing zealot family. | ᴘ å s ᴋ ᴇ ʟ ɪ ʟ ᴊ ᴇ »
Boulderclaw | 40 | Boulderclaw is a short furred tabby tom with no tail. He likes to tell kits that it was trapped under a boulder and he had to claw it off, which is how he got his name, but anyone from his generation knows he was just born that way. He prefers ground hunting and fishing since his balance isn't so good but will do what is necessary for his Clan. He is often out on patrols or helping with the upkeep of the camp but his favorite place to be is anywhere quiet. Sometimes he feels the weight of everyone's expectations on him and likes to take some time to be alone. He fears someone being disappointed in him. | Kermode
Apprentices
Cicadapaw | 7 | A pallid off-white cat with a pointed, tabby striped, dark burnt orange-red face, right front leg, and tail with amber eyes. Thin, lanky, and tall, if he eats right he might fill out into a well-muscled warrior. At the moment, he's mama's little bugaboo! Clear-headed and intellectual with the terrible vice of anxiety and overworrying, he has a strong tendency to shiver and shake randomly and make unconscious noises of nerves. Regardless, he is smart as a whip and a natural leader- though perhaps a little troublesome considering his habit of breaking rules and not following orders He fears a scenario in which his worries get the better of him and he makes a lethal decision. Eclipsestar is his mother and Foxpaw is his sibling. | ᴘ å s ᴋ ᴇ ʟ ɪ ʟ ᴊ ᴇ »
Blinkpaw | 9 | A lean white tomcat with thick, glossy fur and bright amber eyes. He has irregularly sized black splashes along his back, tail, and legs. There are more black splashes on his face with several being around his eyes. Blinkpaw is a painfully optimistic cat, and this can result in him making simple mistakes that a more cautious - and realistic - cat may not have made. He tends to be a bit accident prone due to his joyful impulsiveness, and so he often winds up in the medicine cat den with some bump or bruise. He is incredibly naive and tends to leap headfirst into situations, asking questions later. While this can make him a bit annoying to a more levelheaded and thoughtful cat, Blinkpaw’s overwhelming eagerness for life can sometimes be refreshing, especially when times are tough. His worst fear is being helpless. His older brother from another litter is Lichenspot. He is a distant relative of two ancient NightmareClan cats, Moonfrost and Grassstorm. | Moonstar of ValleyClan
Foxpaw | 7 | A dark ginger tabby she-cat with amber eyes. Her throat, chest, and front paws are white. Foxpaw is a timid cat, fearful of most things beyond the safety of camp. She is particularly afraid of the water roaring beyond the island’s edge, and tends to steer clear of even streams that seem to be too wide or move too quickly. She is working to overcome her timidness, mostly because it also manifests as a stutter when she addresses authority figures or is expected to speak up for herself. Her worst fears are large crowds and cats expecting too much of her. Her mother is Eclipsestar and her brother is Cicadapaw. | Moonstar of ValleyClan
Birdpaw | Pure white she-cat with silky medium-length fur and sharp, clear blue eyes. Birdpaw is an ambitious, energetic, fiercely curious she-cat who experiences the world around her in rich color. She’s very independent and dislikes blindly following others, though she’s perfectly happy to be the one leading. Though she’s very intelligent, she has a tendency to run headlong into anything that looks fun or interesting, and seems to have a bit too much faith in her ability to stay alive for her own good. She thrives on attention and hates being left behind, so she tends to bond best to friends who can keep up with her relentless energy and sometimes overwhelming personality, as well as those who are willing to join her in even her most ill-conceived adventures. Her worst fear is illness, especially terminal. | <Raintalon>
Ducklingpaw | 9 | A pretty little thing with a notably shorter-than-average tail, this she-cat is a rare caliby-point, with the base of her short-length, downy-soft fur being a lightly shaded off-white cream color. Blooming against her face, legs, and tail is an asymmetrical accumulation of dark brown point that is striped in darker tabby pattern. Most evident, however, is the little kisses of orange and yellow that scribble like tortoiseshell pattern within the points, and the little touches of white the dab her chin, speckle her ears, and engulf her toes and tail-tip. Her eyes appear almost impossible with the vibrant striking shock of how deeply, brightly blue they are, like an entire ocean is trapped in her gaze, complete with flecks of azure, bluebell violets, powdered ice, and sky blues. But what is the most unique thing about this cat is her personality- in that, she doesn't act like a cat, and moreso like a dog. With a perchance for lolling out her tongue, wagging her tail, tendency to bark and whine, and a voice that rasps and curdles like a hound's, she is a very odd sight. Playful and wide-eyed, she seems to find happiness in being with others and favors making cats laugh at her antics and strange ways- alas, she often cannot hear that laughter, for she is particularly hard-of-hearing and usually depends on body language and reading lips to navigate social situations. By choice, she has become selectively mute and prefers to communicate with her weird noises, body, or not at all, unless the situation calls for elsewise. She fears being abandoned and left behind because of her disabilities. Her older sister left her in the hands of the clan when she was very young, and she does not know where she comes from. | ᴘ å s ᴋ ᴇ ʟ ɪ ʟ ᴊ ᴇ »
Heronpaw | 7 | A small, compact cat with medium short, soft silvery gray tabby fur and a pale, spring green eye that tends to go a long time without blinking. He has a white muzzle and white around his eye, and his stripes blend into each other further down his body, his tail ending up a darker gray than the rest of him. Thoughtful, quiet and observant are all adjectives that could be used to describe him, especially by cats who don’t know him very well. He tends to overthink everything, which can make it hard for him to act quickly and deal with stressful, high-stakes situations where his actions could cause harm. He tries to come across as cold and aloof, but the fact is that he cares too much. He fears being betrayed by someone he loves and dying before he becomes a warrior. He was born missing his right eye. | ®Hawkpath®
Patchpaw | 8 | A slight and vaguely off-putting silver tabby with a distinctively thin pelt and wide green eyes. Patchpaw was born as something of an anomaly among the clan, a strange little cat without an undercoat to keep them warm. This pelt anomaly often gives others the impression that Patchpaw has some sort of disease that effects the pelt. Growing up, Patchpaw was often teased or avoided for their unique appearance, but this doesn't seem to have had much of an affect on this bouncy and bubbly apprentice, who can often enough be seen haring across camp in a game of chase or even chasing their own tail out of boredom. Patchpaw is also surprisingly talkative, and usually follows behind their mentor or the medicine cats, chattering their ears off. As a kit, Patchpaw spent a lot of time in the medicine cat den, despite there being nothing wrong with them most of the time, save for getting chilled in the winter. They fear being abandoned because of their odd appearance. Their sibling is Sunpaw and they are descendants of the ancient NightmareClan cats Foxflight and Silencedcry. | Novice Creeps
Dreampaw | 9 | Jet black tom with missing right eye. His eye is blue. Long-ish legs. Deeply cares for the cats closest to him. Would rather be loyal than smart. Is rather smart though, he just doesn't use his head when he should. His worst fear is being lost - not like he loses his way, but that he will disappear from the world and leave his loved ones behind. Lost his right eye to a dog. | mintedstar/fur
Ripplepaw | 11 | Ripplepaw is a mostly black she-cat with orange markings on her face and two hind legs. She has a splash of white on her chest and all of her toes. Her amber eyes light up most when she gets to go swimming, she loves the water. She gets really excited when the waves crash during a storm, she just has to go and watch every time, even though it's dangerous. She enjoys clan life and is doing her best to become a warrior to provide for the cats who have been so kind to her. She fears being eaten so much so that she sometimes has a hard time killing prey. | Kermode
Chivepaw | 10 | Chivepaw is a large, long furred tom with blue eyes.He has a long tail and a scar running down his right front leg.He isn't a very nice cat to be around. He's grumpy and complains about almost everything. Some would even call him lazy. This can be used to his and his clan's advantage sometimes though. If he's woken up before he wants to be woken up he is even more grumpy and hostile. So if the camp is attacked or something of the sorts he'll bite the first cat he sees. He fears spiders. | 3XP Skeleton
Queens
Mistfalls | 22 | A thin, slight ebony-dark feline with some kind of depigmentation infesting her pelage, creating a spattering of asymmetrical, small flecks and spottings of white across her entire body. They accentuate the pretty heterochromia of her gaze- one eye green, the other blue. She came from outside of the clan lifestyle and was found on the border, pregnant and alone, and unwilling to speak of what had happened to her aside from that her home situation had been quite unsavory and she'd been desperate for help when she found out she was bearing children. Whimsical and moody, she often has the general demeanor of a sailor's widow peering out a window across the sea, waving a handkerchief to the departing ships. And then returning every day thereafter. It's all a bit sad and melancholy. She fears being found and punished by her previous group. She is currently pregnant with her first litter, though she has yet to disclose the father aside from the fact he had been in her group before she'd come to the Vipers. | ᴘ å s ᴋ ᴇ ʟ ɪ ʟ ᴊ ᴇ »
Mintface | 15 | A white cat with black mask of fur over their face. They have deep green eyes, the left one clouded by blindness. Their ears curl inward and end in tufts of fur. Their long fur often gets in the way and is pretty hot. They have a long tail, resembling a feather when it is raised. Their greatest fear is that they will have to live up to the expectations of others rather than their own. Was born with the blind left eye. | mintedstar/fur

Cats Outside the Clan
Rattlesnake | 10 | Brown tabby tom with long fur and amber eyes. He has a very long tail. Lithe and able to move around well. A loner who seems to be pretty decent and doesn't pick fights or stray into clan territory. Always has a glint in his eyes which makes other cats uneasy. He fears having his secrets discovered. | mintedstar/fur
Hollow | 34 | Hollow is a long furred she cat. She has long black and brown tabby stripes that accentuate the length of her fur. Her face and chest are white, but you wouldn't normally know that since she is so often covered in dirt and twigs. Hollow's olive eyes are usually twinkling with curiosity as she explores her world. She tries to be friendly to cats she meets but doesn't have the best social skills due to living on her own. She does get quite lonely and wants to make some friends. Her favorite spot to be is up on the cliffs, looking out over the island and the ocean, wondering what adventure awaits her next. She fears being trapped or physically pinned down. She is a relative split off from the clan generations ago. She has been curious about it from the stories her mother told her as a kit. | Kermode
Storm's Breeze (Storm) | 24 | Storm is a short furred calico tom. Most of the underside of him is white while his coloration covers his top half and three of his legs. He has blue eyes and a scar across his nose. He usually has a lazy smirk on his face and is rolling around in whatever patch of sunlight he stumbled upon. He spends most days wandering around, doing whatever strikes his fancy. He'll only interact with other cats if they're looking for fun and parts ways with them before too long. His worst fear is responsibility for another's life. He can't have children | Kermode
Stag | 23 | Stag is a small gray tom with short fur and brown eyes.He has a brown stripe down his back. He is very friendly and tends to talk a lot. For the most part he uses that to get out of tight spots, using his teeth if words fail. He fears water, fish, and poison ivy. He was traveling with a group of cats but was separated from them a few moons ago and by now he's given up looking for them. | 3XP Skeleton

Mintface licked at a paw, but was at once catch off guard as he heard Sunpaw raise past him, mere inches from his tail. He might have been a bit too close to the medicine den, but they had been to close to his tail. "Hey!" he said, raising it high as if that might protect it better. "Where are you going in such a rush? Was there a fire or something?" He snorted and lowered the paw he had been cleaning. Then, standing, he shook out his fun. For the most part it was white. Which was nice in snow, but if he had to choose he would have much preferred black like the mask around his face. It would have cleaned better. "I can never muster up that energy," he added. "Is it possible to add it to a herb or something so I can have that pep?"

I got distracted for a while, whoooops. Ignore me}
Blinkpaw’s eyes flickered open, and he was surprised to find shadows still looming in the apprentices’ den. How early was it? His mouth gaping in a wide yawn, he stretched out completely, accidentally nudging someone else in the nest across from him with his hind paws. He leapt up and hurried out into the main cave before whomever he had kicked woke up to yell at him.

Sunpaw jumped at Mintface's voice, looking back to find him sitting more or less right next to the entrance. "Nope! No fire," they chirped, turning and trotting back over to him. The question made them pause, cocking their head to the side as they considered it. Something for energy... maybe. They couldn't remember, but then of course it wasn't something they had ever used. "I don't think so," they mewed, deciding to ask Mousefall later. "Maybe you're just old?" The suggestion tumbled out unprompted, Sunpaw not seeming to notice that it might be rude as they caught sight of Blinkpaw. "Morning Blinkpaw!" they called, tail waving.

Blinkpaw stopped abruptly on his course towards the tunnel leading out to the forest, whirling around and nearly tripping over his own paws. Was it an older cat, prepared to scold him for trying to leave camp alone so early? Relief washed over him as he realized it was only Sunpaw. “Good morning!” he chirped brightly, heading towards the other cat.

Mintface snorted. "I really don't think my age is the problem." But he was cut off a bit by Blinkpaw, who looked like he'd been heading for the camp entrance. "Hello Blinkpaw," he said to the apprentice, allowing a note of playful suspicion into his voice. "Did you get permission to exit camp or am I imagining things?" He coughed a bit, to hide the chuckle, and then glanced at Sunpaw. "Actually, weren't you heading out too before I called you back?" This wasn't some apprentice conspiracy was it?

Blinkpaw’s ears flattened slightly, but instead of sounding nervous that he had been caught, the young cat snorted. “Absolutely,” he retorted. “You know me, Mintface. I’m all about the... rules, and stuff.”

" Ohh, don't we know it. "There had always been something about the leader, ever since she'd been a kit, that had seemed simply a part of the nature around them. The way her speckled paws carried her weight towards the group like she weighed nothing but a feather's touch, an eerily perfect sense of balance in the sway of her limbs. How her cranium remained tall, sharp, as the burning bright of those candle-lit flame eyes twinkled in the dark visage- always knowing. How the shadows grabbed at the black patches, like petulant children unwilling to let her go from their embraces- and how the sunlight flickered warm and friendly upon the gold interwoven through her fur.
It was, to an outsider, perhaps both unnerving and comforting to see how well she fit in with the unknown.
Almost otherwordly- more creature, than cat.
But when the leader smiled, and one could see a crooked tooth and the unevenness of her charming grin, it became clear that she was just as cat as the rest of them- just better at hiding it.
" And therefore, you know your age isn't allowed beyond the camp boundaries without a companion, hmm? "There is something knowing in the gleam of her eye- It's clear she's had this conversation before.
But there is no scold to the tone, just a gentle reminder of stations and such. For a moment, the leader's eye passed over each of them, one at a time, with acute attention. With consideration. A pause, and then the delicately white-tipped tail gave a sharp flicker of motion, and from the shadowed corner of the wall nearest to them, there was movement. Something like sunlight dappling the forest floor, or a snake's earthen body slithering beneath the warmth of the day. Sunflowergrin was, by all accounts, a very pretty and exotic feline to have in their midst, as much as her personality was as well. To the apprentices- and Mintface- her smile was that lazy-honey drizzle she'd been named for-
To Eclipsestar, there was a respectful bow that seemed far too polite considering the feelings around camp, but a well-known occurrence from the trio of rosette siblings that lived in their midst. A voice, silken-sweet, murmured quietly a question- " Yes, madame? "The title made them both smile, as though they were sharing an inside joke, before Eclipsestar spoke again- " I am off to make my rounds. Blinkpaw, Sunpaw, since you seem so interested in going out, you are welcome to join me. Mintface as well. "To be asked to accompany the graceful leader on her journey throughout the edges of their territory was a question never taken lightly, one given usually to specific cats in the clan on the daily and only once during apprenticehood- some apprentices were not asked until their final moon. But, eventually, everyone would walk at her shoulder with her and see her as she was, amongst the wooded forest and sunlight and shadows.
A high honor, indeed, to see what their leader truly was.

Blinkpaw’s eyes widened a comical amount until they appeared to be bulging out of his head. He glanced frantically between Mintface and Sunpaw to see if they had heard the same thing and that he hadn’t imagined her offer, nearly trembling with excitement, before gazing bright-eyed at their leader. “Are you joking? That sounds awesome!” He stopped, realizing that he probably should watch his tone as his brother, Lichenspot, had warned him several times and added quickly in a much more subdued manner: “I mean, uh, I would be... honored.”

(OH HYPE we’re open :ooo
All my cats are open feel free to toss somebody my way!)
Birdpaw wandered slowly from the apprentices’ den, yawning and stretching in the barely-rising sun before collapsing to roll around in the dust. Then, she stood and shook like a dog, a cloud of dust billowing around her as she did. An odd ritual, but it it took the sluggishness out of her morning.
Now that her coat was a grayish, dusty version of its usual white, she sat down and looked around, ears pricked as she tried to see if any of her friends were awake yet. Then, she saw Blinkpaw and lit up, barreling towards the apprentice at top speed, with no real regard for the fact that their leader was also standing a few feet away. “Hey guys!!” she chirped, raising her tail as she neared the three of them. “What’s happening? Can I come too??”
—
Cricketfrost was passed out in the warriors’ den, upside down with one leg in the air and the other sprawled halfway out of their nest. Combine that with the drooling, and the half-open eyes rolled back in their skull, and it rather looked like they’d been hit by a Twoleg monster.
—
Mousefall had, in fact, been awake when Sunpaw left the medicine den, but he’d kept his eyes shut for several minutes after the apprentice had gone. There was really nothing to do yet, so he saw no harm in letting them run off to do whatever it was they wanted to do badly enough to ditch him. Once they were gone, he got up, stretched, and then began to putter around his den, dusting his supplies with his tail and mentally counting them in case he had to send the warriors out for something later. He liked these kinds of mornings - peaceful, quiet. Plenty of time to prepare before the first apprentice to rip a claw came barreling in.
—
Liontail had been awake for hours, but he’d barely moved in that time. He sat quietly on a log near the edge of camp, staring absently into the woods with seemingly no attention given to what was happening in camp. This spot was peaceful, he thought. Few cats came over here. So he could just sit, without anyone asking him what he was doing, or why he wasn’t at the fresh kill pile. It was a good way to start the day.

welcome Kermode and Protractor!) Sunpaw blinked. "Uh, no I was going with Blinkpaw," they said, nodding quickly at the other apprentice. "I just wanted to scare him, which is why I ran ahead." They winced internally at the sound of Eclipsestar's voice. Mintface they could probably get away with lying to. Eclipsestar not so much. Turning to the leader with a bright expression, they mewed, "Good morning Eclipsestar! Blinkpaw and I were just going to do some early hunting." Couldn't hurt to try, could it? Besides, they hadn't even managed to get out of camp yet. Their tail drooped slightly as Eclipsestar called Sunflowergrin over. Great. A chaperone. They were never going to get to enjoy the early morning cliffs now. Their disappointment quickly evaporated as Eclipsestar continued. Ears pricked and eyes alight with excitement, Sunpaw nearly bounced in place. Blinkpaw cut them off in an excited, then more subdued rush, reminding Sunpaw that they probably shouldn't be acting like a kit being allowed out of camp for the first time. "Yes, Eclipsestar," they said, still obviously pleased as they dipped their head. -- Saltsong blinked one eye open blearily, ears pressing flat against her skull at the sound of overexcited apprentices being incredibly noisy at an hour when any sane cat would be asleep. Squeezing her eye shut again, she listened for the sound of her own apprentice's voice. Nothing. Good. At least one of the apprentices had sense. Rolling over, she shifted to a more comfortable position in her nest only to find someone else's paw in the way. Grumbling under her breath, she was completely unsurprised to find that it belonged to Cricketfrost. Reaching out, she smacked a forepaw down onto their exposed belly.

" Sunflowergrin will get you more herbs. "
Soft, but crystalline- that was always the cadence of her vocals when she spoke, ever since she'd come to the clan shrouded in the woods. Or, moreso, it had taken her into its open arms, embraced her and the swollen stomach that bulged from her flanks where she stood, looking off and odd considering her thin and slight figure. Not the only odd thing- the white flecking across such a dark figure spoke of that, something underlying it all. And the vibrancy of her blue eye contrasted with the sharpness of the green one, riveted in solemn countenance upon Mousefall from where she hovered at the entrance to the medicine cat's den. Her blink was slow, calculated, but there was nothing but placid calmness in the sea of her gaze- and stating the obvious in her words. In the neutrality of it all, there was something, sad, but amused, sweetened, almost. Looking at him, mentioning the bengal on her tongue.Tilting her cranium slowly to the side, she peered out back into the depths of camp, expression back to unreadable calm. Looking, looking, for something- or someone. And as she perused quietly, her voice lilted gently again-" She's nice. "And odd too, but the queen didn't mention that part, that went without saying. Her and her siblings were some of the strangest cats that had come through the Vipers of the Lilies, though certainly not the most. And although Mistfalls had not been here long, she'd heard the stories. Perks of being an observant shadow, eh? She'd heard of the names who'd come in passing. A glance at Eclipsestar, a thought-
There was someone who had come through here, long ago, that had left his mark in more ways than one.
Had left their leader a little different than he'd met her. And left the clan with two new members than before he'd come.
And Mistfalls' mind loved to wander what it could've been.

Waterstripe crept past those still slumbering in the warriors’ den, careful to avoid tails strewn across his path. Voices reached his ears even before he emerged, and when he did, he noticed with surprise that there were already several cats scattered about the main cave. He watched with amusement as a trio of apprentices bounced about excitedly near Eclipsestar. She must be taking the group out on a patrol with her - no wonder they were all so excited. Turning away from the entrance, he noticed Mistfalls standing near the medicine cat den. With a slight frown, he approached the she-cat and dipped his head in greeting. “Good morning,” he said quietly. “Did you need Mousefall for something?”

Moonstar of ValleyClan Iceclaw ᴍɪsᴛғᴀʟʟ »(Oh gosh. Sorry y'all. Work was hectic. ) Mintface's whiskers twitched and there was something about the set of the fur around his mask which was a bit unusual for the reaction he might usually have. Was he amused or was he bemused. The light in his single seeing eye was enough to take the feeling the rest of the way. He wasn't impressed with Eclipsestar. This might have been something which would have garnered scorn from every cat who seemed enamored with the leader, but it was how he'd acted toward her since before he could remember and things hadn't changed now. "I could stretch my legs," he said, standing and stretching his leg as if it was an example. But his voice was tinted in a way which said that if he hadn't been bored he'd probably have refused the leader's offer. He padded toward the entrance, his long feather of a tail flicking against Sunpaw's nose as he passed. "Someone has to watch the apprentices." He nodded at Sunflowergrin, acknowledging the warrior, then went to stand by the exit.

Heronpaw stretched, rolling over slowly in his nest. He opened his left eye slowly. It was morning already...he yawned, then rolled over, trying to go back to sleep. Nope. It was still morning. After a long moment he sighed and gave up, rolled over, got to his feet and padded out of the den. A good amount of cats were already up. He headed for the fresh-kill pile, then paused as he caught sight of Eclipsestar near a few other apprentices. He slowed, listening. Maybe It was something he could get involved in? His mentor would want him to interact with the others, right?
—
Moonflower had finished her breakfast and and given herself a good groom already, and now she sat, her black and white fur sleek in the early morning sun. She wanted to go hunting today, but she wasn’t sure she wanted to do it alone. She could, but...today seemed too nice out to not have some company, even if she didn’t particularly like that company. Maybe she could get Shivermask to go with her, she hadn’t gotten to spend time alone with her sister in a while, and she missed her, She yawned. Or maybe she should find someone to spar with. Her paws itched to move.
—
Nettlefang was just slipping back into camp, leaves caught in their long black fur and no prey to show for their night walk. Because they hadn’t been hunting. They’d been doing almost anything else you could possibly do outside the camp at night - climb trees, hang upside down out of said trees, see how fast you could run - and they were just getting started.
—
Flintfeather was still fast asleep in the warrior’s den, curled in a tight, uncomfortable looking ball of short fur. His ears moved and his tail twitched as though he were dreaming, his throat moving like he was speaking only he made no sound. When his eyes began to move, his claws unsheathed and began to shred his nest (and possibly anyone too close to it).

Cricketfrost yelped loudly as Saltsong’s paw made contact, flipping over and rolling out of their nest completely in the process. “Whaaa-aaa?” they yowled, standing up, staggering, shaking the leaves off their coat like a dog, and then finishing the whole ritual with a loud sneeze. Then they sat down, flicking an ear as they noticed Saltsong and made the connection. “Oh, hello,” they said, tone light but unreadable as usual. “That was charming. You should talk to Eclipsestar about doing wake-up calls.”
—
Birdpaw bounced up and down on her toes, practically vibrating with excitement. “Yes!! That’s so exciting, I knew getting up early was a good idea - Sunpaw, you’re coming too, right? We have to all go together. Right?” She turned to Blinkpaw, searching her face for agreement.
—
Mousefall padded quietly towards the two cats who were now just outside his den, slinking towards them and raising his head to peer curiously in Mistfalls’ direction. “Hello,” he said, swishing his tail across the dust as he spoke. “Did you say you needed something?”
