Taboo opened both eyes now, seemingly no intentions remaining of following through with his challenge. Rolling his eyes, the tom became slightly annoyed. "Well if Peaches is just gonna complain all day he might as well take a nap," he stated in third person, rolling onto his back once again. "Unless Peaches wishes to join him?" he purred.

He chuckled softly, closing his eyes. "You're so weird, Peach. Sayin' you're gonna take a nap an' 'en just standing there-" Taboo teased, the tense feel about him almost immediately dissipating into the lake air. "You ever tried firsh?" he meowed, relaxing in the sun.

(I totally didn't realize I said firsh instead of fish and I absolutely CANNOT breathe)
Taboo let out a little purr as the she-cat rested her chin on him, the warm of her along with the sun making him sleepy. "Mm, Tabs is going to change that some day..." he mumbled, letting out a yawn. "I wonder if birds can fly when they're wet. Wouldn't it be fun to see one struggling to fly? Priceless," he chuckled, glancing out at the lake and resting his eyes once more.

Dawn and Maple The she cat strode confidently through the undergrowth, over roots and around rocks. She felt like she was going the right way, It must be just...there! Dawn suddenly turned a sharp left and gazed out into the field. They were not that far from the group of cats, but far enough to not hear what they were saying. In the field there were several clumps of burdock growing near the treeline. Dawn curled her long fluffy tail up in satisfaction and looked over her shoulder at Maple. "Let me know if you need help, I'm going to go try to catch some food." she said cheerily before slipping off a little ways into the field, picking up the scent of mouse.

Peach tried to contain her purring at his comment, absolutely loving the idea of Taboo doing something special just for her. Her eyes slowly begin to shut and she relaxes even more, almost beginning to drift until the tom's voice pulls her out of her sleepy daze. Her ears perk and she blinks lethargically, following his gaze at the lake and frowning a bit. She'd never really watched any living thing struggle before, and part of her didn't think she'd like her. Glancing back to Taboo once his eyes were closed, Peach hesitated before finally responding. "It might, could be an easy kill." She commented, trying to think of it in a survival way. This wasn't like her twoleg home, food wouldn't just magically appear in her bowl anymore. She has to defend herself out here, but at least she had Taboo by her side. Peach couldn't imagine being out in the wild on her own, only leaving her home because she knew she'd be following Taboo who seemed to know what he was doing...to and extent.

The tom shrugged as best he could in the position he was in, letting out a soft, affectionate growl. He wasn't sure if his inquiry had made Peach uncomfortable, but he knew she was hesitant to answer. Taboo stifled a yawn, growing drowsier with each breath. "Might as well rest up. Maybe we can go see the flying lights tonight," he added quietly, already starting to trail off into sleep.

(you're all good!)
On her way back, Maple did come across some dock leaves, recognizing its tangy scent. With the small bundle in her jaw, she emerged back at the creek clearing just in time to watch the fiery orange tom confront Lightning. Everyone around here seemed on edge, she wondered what had set it off in the first place. Maple cleared her throat and padded past Flare to join Lightning's side. "This is burdock, if you chew up the root it should help with your infection. It's mainly used for rat bites but I'm pretty sure it'll also help with your infection." She told the she-cat. As far as she knew, none of these cats really knew any healing techniques, and while her own knowledge was scarce she did know the basics. Maple bit off a couple of the roots and chewed it until it into a pulp, wincing at the bitter taste, then carefully spread it on Lightning's gash.
Then her attention went to Flare where she grabbed a couple of the dock leaves. "Um, I brought these back as well. they're dock leaves and it should help heal the scratch on your face." Maple told the tom with a hesitant smile. "I'm going to have to chew it up and put in on your face, is that okay? She asked him, thinking it might be best before she just went ahead and did it. She also was planning to use it on her paws, they still ached and were terribly cracked from the days of travel she's had the endure so far.

Lightning couldn't help but roll her eyes. She didn't want to admit she was staring, but she wished that he knew that's not why she was looking at him. Shaking out her pelt she sighed. Perking her ears as the she-cat returned. For some reason Lightning felt a twinge of jealousy when the she-cat spoke to him like that.
Looking away from them she focused on something else, she didn't want to be a part of this conversation or this group right now. She felt like snapping back at the Tom but instead just muttered under her breath. "That's not what I was staring at mousebrain." She said quietly, unless they were focusing on her they wouldn't hear. She wasn't one to look for a fight but she was always ready for one. Letting out another sigh, she began to groom her wound.
She glanced up when the other she-cat walked up to her. Lightning glanced at the herbs, she knew a little but not too much. "Thank you. What do I do with them again?" She asked quietly. She misheard what she-cat had said. 'I really hope these help my wound and fast' she thought as she glanced at Maple again. She really needed to hunt. She hadn't eaten since two days ago an she needed to go hunt for something, even if it was just small.

The cat who looked and smelled like she belonged in the forest and didn’t go simpering to Twolegs every night had returned, brushing past him and offering some burdock root to Lightning. The tom was aware of her muttering something under her breath--probably in response to his jab--but she thanked Maple nicely and then asked again how to use it. Flare rolled his eyes, a purr of laughter trembling in his throat. How feather-brained could a cat be? Maple had just spent several heartbeats explaining its use, and it had all apparently gone right over Lightning’s head. Honestly, it was a root! What else could you do with it? Flare stiffened in surprise as Maple then turned awkwardly to him and proffered some dock for his wound. Should he accept? He didn’t think he had ever been offered help by another cat before. Never. He was self-sufficient. He could definitely take care of himself. Nodding grudging thanks to Maple, he meowed, “Thanks, but I’m not a kit just out of the nursery. I’ve had wounds before. I can deal with it.” He knew would probably appear obnoxious to cats who were used to congregating in big, friendly groups like this, but it wasn’t anything personal. It was called survival.

Maple was almost surprised that Flare rejected her offer, and while the long cut on his face wasn't severe at the moment it could get worse if he didn't take care of it. The tabby narrows her eyes at him, noticing that dried blood was still matted to his face. "Well you're sure being stubborn like a kit just out of the nursery." She replied. "Always thinking they're ready to be independent, that they don't need to rely on anyone anymore." Maple went on. "But you're right. You're not a kit, you're a grown cat that has a large scar on his face that looks like it's just barely stopped bleeding. If you don't want help I understand, but I also don't think you want that scar to end up looking like her leg." Her head nods to Lightning's root-pulp covered leg, the smell of infection still in the air. She gives one last glance to Flare, pushing to dock closer to him before turning to Lightning once more. "You chew up the roots into a pulp and spread it along your wound, it should get rid of the infection. It kind of has a bitter taste to it so watch out for that." Maple smiled softly, not seeming to mind explaining it to the she-cat again, but hoped there wouldn't need to be a third explanation.

Flare stiffened, too surprised to offer a retort as Maple berated him for acting like a kit and turned away with a huff to patiently re-explain to Lightning how to use the burdock root. Were all she-cats this bossy, always trying to mother other cats? He wouldn’t know, not having had much experience with them, except for the few mangy alley she-cats who counted themselves among Scrap’s followers. Grumbling audibly, the tom reluctantly licked a paw and cleaned off the dried blood on his face. When the wound was clean, he chewed the dock into a pulp and used his paw to smear it into his cut. Catching Maple’s eye, he meowed a grudging, “Thanks,” Flare then turned his head to see how Lightning was getting along while licking the bitter pulp from his paw. Had the flighty female remembered Maple’s instructions long enough to apply the poultice?

Maple turned at Flare's thanks, noticing that he had applied the pulp himself. To say that she was surprised would be a bit of an understatement, not thinking that the stubborn tom would actually listen to her. She smiled nonetheless and dipped her head. "Of course, it's no problem." She replied before noticing how he'd turned to look at Lightning. Maple then took this time to finally pad to the creek's edge and lap at the water for a moment, finally able to quench her thirst, almost forgetting about how parched she was. She also took her time in rinsing off her paws, washing away the tried blood from her cracked pads. The cool water felt like such a relief, and she wanted to stay in the low-leveled water for a few moments more but pushed herself out anyways.
Joining Flare again, Maple sat down and gathered the rest of the leaves. "So, what's your name?" She asked him as she chewed the herb into a pulp and began to use it on her sore pads.

Lightning felt her skin burn under her pelt. She appreciated the she-cats help. Giving her a nod, she completely ignored the tom. She chewed the root up, ignoreing the bitter taste it was creating. She applied it to her wound carefully, wincing in pain. She almost let out an amused purr when she scolded the tom. But she twitched her whiskers instead.
Lightning sighed as her leg already started to feel better. She was relieved that she could heal now. She hoped that she could get going soon. She felt her stomach growl, almost making her cringe in pain. She wouldn't be alive to see herself heal ifnsye didn't hunt soon! "I have to go" she murmured before turning to walk in the other direction. She didn't want to be fussed over, she felt bad for the others when she did. She hated feeling weak.

Dawn showed up back to the ragtag group of cats just as Lightning was leaving. The large she cat had two mice dangling from her jaws and set them down in the she cat's path. "There you go," she said simply, her nose twitching at the scent of the burdock pulp on her leg. Dawn noticed Maple rubbing something on her paws but it didn't smell like burdock. She wanted to ask her what it was but that grouchy tom was near her. She sniffed in disdain and left Lightning with the mice, finally heading over to the creek.
Dawn was happy to finally make it to her original destination and peered cautiously into the water, walking slowly along the shoreline. She certainly wasn't going to get wet unless she had to. She was looking for something nice to bring back to her Twoleg, when she gave the young woman gifts Dawn always got a treat. And she liked seeing her Twoleg grimace and squeal in the way they expressed their happiness.

Lightning thanked the shecat quickly before the cat wandered off. She was surprised by their generosity but felt like she was stealing from them. 'Just accept there help once and then when you feel a bit better, leave.' She thought to herself as hee mouth watered. She crouched down and ate the two mice hungrily. Letting out a small purr when she laid down, the cats only a few fox lengths away from her. She felt a little wary at first, feeling vulnerable.
She curled up tighter before glancing over at the others. "Why is everyone here. I haven't scented any cats in days. And suddenly everyone shows up." She muttered to herself. She couldn't help but meet the firey toms gaze. Only for a moment before looking down.

Lighting rolled her eyes at the tom. He was so grumpy! Why was she still here? She could be long gone by now. At least through the forest. Lightning sighed and rested her head down. She decided she would leave by dawn. It was almost nightfall and these cats were annoying.
Lightning yawned before beginning to groom herself. She was impatiently waiting for her leg to heal. Wanting to leave. Where did these cats come from? Why did they suddenly all gather here? She was fine judt being by herself! She would have made it somehow! Feeling her pelt prickle with unhappiness she gazed off into the forest, twitching her ears, a loud sound started. Almost like running. She hissed, "dog!" She yowled before struggling to her paws. It was too close. "I'll distract it. Hide! "

Flare shrugged dismissively as Maple hesitantly offered a pleasantry in response. She didn’t have to try to hide the fact that it wasn’t a pleasure to meet him; he certainly didn’t. “I’d say the same, but I’m not in the habit of lying,” he mewed curtly. The tom stood up and stretched until his spine straightened and his chest fur brushed the ground, feeling his aching muscles loosen underneath his pelt. It was then that a waft of breeze brought an alarming scent to his attention: something harsh and strong and bitter, smelling of blood and rage and unbridled fury. A faint flurry of barking echoed in his ears, steadily growing louder as distant crashing pawsteps accompanied the racket. “Dog!” Lightning yowled. Flare allowed himself a brief moment to snort in contempt as he sprang up from his relaxed position, claws pricking the ground. Did she think their noses weren’t working or something? The next thing Lightning said was even more blasphemous. The cat couldn’t even walk, and here she was, apparently believing that she would be the hero that saved them all. “Are you mouse-brained? Get away!” he snarled at her, flexing his claws. There wasn’t time to cuff Lightning around the ear and drag her to safety; she would have to take care of herself. Flare nodded to Maple as she nudged Lightning away with a more gentle reproach then what he had in mind and take up a stance beside him. Two cats were better than one when it came to these brutes. He should know. He fought one practically every moon with Scrap and his gang.

Flare*** is such a jerk XD))
Lightning growled in frustration. "It would be better I die injured than you both die." She spat before limping back to her hiding spot in the tree. She curled up, upset and miserable. She didn't need these cats! Especially Flame! She sighed as she watched the firey cat with Maple. 'At least they get along well' she snickered to herself. She couldn't believe they were making her hide! She heard as the dog neared, bracing herself she saw a hound dog trot into the clearing, his nose to the ground. Until he saw the cats. Letting out a howl he charged them.
Bracing for the worst she watched the cats carefully. If they needed help she was going to help distract the dog!

(I know, right? I have the most fun with characters everyone hates XD)
“What do you mean? After the dog killed you, it would definitely come after us!” Flare yowled after Lightning as she finally disappeared into her hole. It was then that a big brown hound dog burst into the clearing, barely catching sight of him and Maple before launching itself at them. Flare flashed out a paw and raked his claws across the dog’s muzzle, slicing open its nose. The dog yelped and stumbled back before a fierce light entered its eyes and it lunged again. Flare glanced at Maple, then growled to her below the dog's frenzied snarls,
"I'll take one flank and you take the other! Just slash, duck, and weave!" Darting to the side of the dog, the fiery tom slashed the dog's flank and sprang backward, counting on Maple to score the dog's other side before the dog could retaliate by attacking him.

Dawn was intent on her work, not paying attention to what the cats were saying. Her eyes scanned the water meticulously, until suddenly- there it was! She dashed a paw in to try to grab the shiny object but it rolled further out of reach. She gave a hmpf, not excited to be getting her long fur wet, and triple checked her position before plunging her head into the icy water. As soon as she felt her jaws lock around the stone she shot her head out of the water, viciously shaking the water from her fur. She let the stone fall to her paws and began quickly washing her fur, grumbling about how long it would take when a howl chilled her to her bones.
She whipped her head around and saw the dog charging, not having scented it due to the water. Her fear was tinged with irritation, Twolegs always let their dogs run loose here. She usually just tried to run back home or wait up in a tree until it left but she saw the group of cats still on the ground. What are they doing?? Surely they're not going to fight it! Dawn had no idea how to fight a dog, she just got to safety and hissed at it until it left. But it looked like that injured she cat was still on the ground and the others wouldn't leave her. Dawn could care less about the tom but Maple was being brave so she should try to be brave too.
Just as Dawn was about to act she watched in bewilderment as Maple and the tom began attacking the dog! She had never seen such ferocity, except that one mother cat with her kits. There was no way she was getting involved with that, not that she would be any help anyway, so she went around the group to stand with Lightning. Dawn fluffed up her fur, her fear helping, making the large she cat look even bigger. She began yowling and spitting, hoping the sound and sight of her, along with the two crazy cats attacking it, would drive it off.
