“It’s not about you appreciating more, it’s wrong.” She then quickly dodged the lightning. If she got hit by any one of those bolt she’d be done for. “Besides, I’m just here because someone wants you dead. I’m just here to deliver the blow.” She decided to ignore the other tease. She looked for ways in as she fought with the beast, openings that would be fatal.

"Trying sooo hard to be something you're not." The Griffex tsked, feathers fluffing up. "But not being in the cities let's me hear a lot. Much is changing, and weak things like you won't survive the crossfire." As the bird went on, her injured wing kept sagging, not using any dangerous lightning.

Cally took a deep breath, blocking out the Griffex, knowing she was just trying to get to her head. She wasn’t about to fail because of some playground taunts. Humans weren’t supposed to survive the second things went bad with the monsters, but here she was.

The Griffex suddenly leapt for Cally, but she left herself completely open for attack, talons outstretched and letting out a screech.

Cally quickly saw the opening and dove into a roll under her, just barely getting nicked by a talon. She then ran, piercing the sword into the Griffex before taking it downwards a little. She was caught underneath the beast for a few moments, but quickly tried to get out of it before it took advantage, or fell.

The Griffex shrieked in pain, sailing over and tumbling by. Wounded badly, she got up with a limp, the flaming sword leaving some sort of festering wound like embers.

Cally felt a pang or guilt and sadness as she heard the shriek, but she learned from her training to push it down. She moved a little towards the Griffex before stopping, “weak little human, huh?”

The Griffex growled. "The forests tremble. Something is coming soon. Or someone, and hopefully all you humans will finally be wiped out."

Cally listened to her warning before saying, “Im sorry.” She said before going to deliver the killing blow.

The huge bird gasped with gaping jaws, lightning crackling a few times before she went limp. That left Cally free to collect the corpse to take it in.

Cally let out a breath before going to put out the flames covering her sword. She then set it down to cool as she called to Fatid and Remiel to help her with the body.

Remiel and Fatid walked in, looking around at the valuables before looking to the bird. "Skin her," Remiel said. "Since no one knew who this thief was, the feathers are technically yours to keep." And this one was full grown, so the feathers were of their highest value, and there was a lot of them.

Cally smiled brightly, but her face also looked slightly saddened. She did as she was instructed and went about skinning Griffex, making sure to not damage any of her feathers.

Fatid snorted as he watched Cally, smirking a little as he said "You realize you technically don't ever have to worry about money again, right? I still assume you'll take jobs at least though. Killing a Griffex will definitely send a message." Even though Cally found this one by chance, and unaware when taking the job, the birds were extremely rare and obviously valuable. Most hunters would be jealous of her.

Cally nodded, “I’m glad that I took the job.” She said, “the killing part is always tough for me, but doable. Especially when it’s a monster like this.” She looked to the other two, “here. Take one at least, there’s plenty for me already.” She said while gesturing to the feathers. She looked mainly to Fatid as she said, “I owe you after all.”

Fatid and Remiel each took one with a thanks. "Next little adventure is the tournament," Fatid grunted. "That way your boyfriend can show off for you." He chuckled as Remiel pushed him playfully. The angel said "Well, I do hope to impress Cally at least a little~"

Cally scoffed and rolled her eyes with a small smile, “first help me with this Griffex. That would really impress me.” She said teasingly as she continued to tend to the corpse.

Remiel laughed before moving to help her properly skin the Griffex, showing Cally what to do as not to damage any feathers. Eventually the bird was properly skinned, and Remiel offered to carry the body itself.

“Are you sure?” Cally asked, “that would be a huge help, but please let me at least help you.” She asked as she stored the feathers away in her pack.

Remiel smiled gently. He could easily carry the body himself, but decided to let Cally help him. Soon the trio was heading back the way they came, Fatid keeping an eye out just in case.

Cally helped him, looking proud as she walked. “So, do you two need to practice before to the tournament? Or are you just going to go right into it?” She asked curiously.

Remiel nodded, saying "Practice. We're supposed to meet Faugnar tomorrow to get some training in before the tournament the next day." He smiled a little. "You can come watch if you'd like. Fatid will be there too of course."

Cally nodded, “Sure. I’d love to watch if you two don’t mind the company.” She said, “and only if the third monster in your group likes humans. I would hate to ruin the practice.” She said. Some monsters could be really sensitive.

Fatid shrugged. "Faugnar doesn't really like anyone. Just don't bother or annoy him and he won't do anything to you." He would keep the thirst monster's backstory under wraps for now, cause Faugnar technically should've been someone's bounty target long ago anyway.

Cally shrugged, “alright, noted. I’m honestly excited to see you guys fight though. It should be interesting.” She said as they kept walking.

Remiel smiled a little. "Just remember we're not fighting to kill or anything, so we'll be holding back to a degree." Fatid nodded at that, adding "We all still want to win though, so it'll still be a show."

“I know that. If you killed you’d be disqualified immediately.” She said. “But still, I haven’t been to a tournament since I was little so it’ll be nostalgic in a way.”

Fatid snorted. "Disqualified? You'd probably be arrested." Eventually the trio made it back to the city and went to turn the corpse in.

Cally shrugged, “true. But let’s not try to think about that possibility unless it happens.” She said simply. She then focused on the task at hand as she went to turn the body in.

The monster didn't seem too happy when he saw the skinned body and losing out on the feathers. They were Cally's to have though, along with the bounty reward which was honestly obsolete compared to all the feathers she got.
