rainclan is one of [four clans | link to joining page] that make their home in a decently sized and diverse portion of australia. extremely religious and connected to nature, rainclan makes their home in the rainforest off the coast of the bay and below the mountains. their territory is cut by several small rivers and streams that flow down from sierraclanโs territory, while the main river, known as the alligator river (or simply the gator river) separates them from bayclan.
rainclan cats are known for being essentially jacks of all trades. they are skilled at both scaling the tall trees in their territory and also braving the freshwater rivers and ponds scattered about. this can lead to some cats in the clan having an almost superiority complex towards other clans. rainclan is also an extremely prideful clan, rarely resorting to accepting help from outsiders and always trying to support each other from the inside.
the clan itself is very diverse; despite their proud nature, they have a lot of mixed heritage. many of them have sleek fur and short coats, although long fur is not uncommon. tabbies, spots, bengal patterns, and other coat markings are very common in order to blend in to the trees.
the diverse ecosystem they live in requires rainclan cats to be quick on their toes; facing threats such as cassowaries, snakes, and large birds of prey requires a quick wit and even swifter body. however, there is also usually an abundance of prey as well, including small mammals and reptiles, as well as fish in the rivers and ponds.

you inhale, and get a whiff of clear air.
the smell is reminiscent of fresh rain, fresh water, and fresh life. the trees around you shake in the wind. the warm breeze, carrying the familiar scent of a storm, ruffles your fur.
your main goal is to find shelter before the downpour starts. you've been in this area for a few sunrises now; you know how temperamental the weather is here.
you also know you have to be careful. there are wild cats here. you've heard about them from acquaintances you've met on your travels.
they can swim upstream faster than a fish.
they climb like tree kangaroos but aren't half as docile.
you don't want to face the business end of their claws. they aren't friendly to face in a fight.
the thought gives you the shivers. but you shake off your fright and trek on.
you wonder for a moment how you haven't visited the location before. the trees are a verdant green. the sound of rushing water drowns your ears, and the earthy smell of dirt floods your nose. in fact, the whole forest smells alive. alive, visceral, moving and changing.
and the rain starts.
the drops are slow at first but they come. you shake your fur as you feel the wet fall onto you. you're not sure if you could tolerate this kind of environment. as the rain gets heavier, your senses get distorted. you're away you should be keeping watch for the clan cats, but all you can here is the rain, and it's all you can smell as well. you mutter a curse as you realize how numbat-brained it was of you to let yourself get so disoriented.
and before you know it, you're pinned to the ground. you catch a growl from above you.
"who are you?!" the voice hisses.
you stammer back in reply. "i'm just.. i'm just a traveler, okay?!"
"why are you on our territory? if you're a traveler, you know it belongs to rainclan."
"i know, i'm sorry, i just... these forests have been talked about so much. i wanted to see what all the talk was about."
the cat relaxes its grip. "oh, really. well, i do have to bring you back to our leader for trespassing."
you swallow.
"...so you'll end up seeing more of the territory. i guess in a way you'll be getting what you came for." there's an amused purr in the cat's throat.
a few more sturdy looking cats make their way out of the bushes to surround you and escort you back to their camp.
the first clan cat looks back at you. "and who knows. our leader might be merciful." there is a playful glint in their eye. "you look strong. maybe you'll be allowed to join us."
you want to respond, but as you open your mouth, the cat meows back, "don't get your hopes up too high, though," with a wink.
you wonder what you've gotten yourself into. |

cause of final death; tree fell on him during a storm.
bio; rainstar was always the leadership type; he was noble and honorable and selfless, at least, that's how the legend goes. privately, he had more flaws than he wanted to admit, struggling personally with fits of rage and mania. he struggled to keep up his image, but held his clan together through difficulty and prosperity. he kept his composure throughout his life but always hoped to die young so the burden of old age would never get to him. his wishes were granted; he didn't survive long enough to have his brain wracked by dementia or illness. the first rainclan medicine cat said that his death was tragic, but symbolic of the renewal of the clan, as it happened during a storm. rainclan legend is that he lives on in every storm since his death.

bio; following up the clan founder might've been a difficult task for any cat who wasn't acaciafur. intelligent, always one step ahead, and constantly planning, this cat stepped up his game when his leadership drew near. acaciastar was a cat who had everything planned out, from his first life to his last life. he didn't want there to be any missteps in his leadership, and for the most part, his reign was one of the most peaceful, quiet times in rainclan history. rainstar did well starting the peace, and acaciastar did even better keeping it. he was a smooth talker which aided in his quest to keep his clan safe. most of his lives were lost to either illness or predatory animals.

bio; poor morningstar. her leadership started out stable, but eventually fell apart. she tried her best but thanks to spiderstar's reign in sierraclan, she grew more suspicious, more more paranoid every day. spiderstar's treachery forced her to close her borders and only allowed a few trusted warriors out of camp. not only did this mean borders went unpatrolled, but hunting and prey dwindled as well. as she aged, she began to lose what was left of herself even more thanks to a debilitating brain infection. eventually, the clan decided she was unfit to lead; but she lost her last life before her deputy, honeyheart, could force her to retire.

iv. honeystar | the drizzle

cause of final death; combat with dustclan
bio; rebuilding rainclan from what morningstar turned it into was a difficult job. there were many sick, starving cats, injured warriors from battles with spiderstar's cats, and distrust amongst clanmates. honeystar, while not perfect for the job, did her absolute best. she had to make some tough choices but she felt that her way was the best way for her to lead, even though she became a little unpopular in the clan. however, no rainclan cat alive during her reign can deny that without her, rainclan would have probably fallen to pieces. she was mostly just an average leader who had an unfair situation.

bio; echostar was the perfect followup to honeystar; loved by the clan, wise beyond her age, and leadership skills reminiscent of rainstar himself. she brought prosperity back to rainclan. however, it was during her leadership where cat culling increased in rainclan. in fact, the two deputies before fairywing both fell victim to this; disappearing without a trace. this angered echostar more and more until eventually she set off on her own private mission to find the bodies of cats who died, or try and save the ones who might still be alive. she paid for this mission with her life. after several days of their leader missing, rainclan sent fairywing off to recieve her nine lives.

vi. fairystar | the sunshower

cause of final death; fell off the cliffs on the bayclan border and into the sea, and then swallowed by a shark.
bio; fairywing was a brave cat, a good choice for deputy, but she was young and her deputyship was breaking the code- she had not had an apprentice yet when she was appointed. echostar saw potential in her. however, whatever she saw in young fairystar was cut short. fairystar's reign didn't last long (only a few moons), but while it did it was a confusing period of rainclan not knowing what was going on. pressured by senior warriors and her own deputy (and closest friend), she made the choice to go to war with bayclan, and she paid for it with all 9 of her lives. some cats still suspect there was foul play involved with her fall off the cliffs, but her only deputy, pelicanthroat, violently denies all these rumors. although it's been moons since her death, some say pelicanstar still mourns her.

bio; arrogant and cocky, he was fairystar's good friend whom she appointed deputy right away. he had feelings for her but never acted on them. he wasn't expecting her to die so soon, and the death of his best friend caused something in him to snap. he has never forgiven himself for telling fairystar to go into battle that day. now, he's not an evil cat, but he's definitely not nice. he hasn't done anything awful... yet... but the older members of the clan have their eyes on him. they're not a fan of his loud opinions and arrogant ways. |

f i r s t s t e p s
the most prominent feature of rainclan territory is its lush, viridian forests. ferns sprout out from the undergrowth, and trees covered in moss tangle up above. huge trees grow to heights cats couldnโt dream of climbing; unless theyโre rainclan cats, of course. smooth streams and hidden grottos litter the territory, leading to many excellent areas that are rich in prey. the clanโs territory is shaded and kept cool thanks to the darkness of the trees, especially in the summer and autumn. rivers flow down from the mountains to the north of them, and to the west lies the alligator river, which makes up their border with bayclan. to the direct south is the bay and cliffs that drop off to it. it is considered a dangerous area as some of the rocks are known to fall at random and should not be visited too frequently. to the east, the forest continues for a short while before it is cut off by a busy thunderpath. beyond the thunderpath is a bustling twolegplace.
e n t e r i n g t h e c a m p
the rainclan camp is tucked away in the far east of the territory, hidden by ferns and foliage. a small stream runs through the camp, a rocky ledge marking the area where the rainclan leaders make announcements. dens are made in the inside of large, unshaking hollow trees, in small natural and dug out dens covered and guarded by flora, and by big rock structures. there are plenty of small watering holes in the camp. camp map-
  l a n d m a r k s โ bellfrog lagoon โ a small lagoon located not far southward of camp. a popular spot with apprentices as there are many trees to practice climbing and the water is usually shallow enough near the banks as to not be dangerous. another special thing about the lagoon is the bioluminescent algae in it make it quite a sight to see once the sun falls. after dark, it's a special romantic location.
