Mallory pouted. "Aw, Tor, don't be like that. I'm sure everyone will love him! Right guys?" She smiled at the guys, but the look in her eyes made it clear that if they argued, they would officially be on her shit list, and that was a place no one wanted to be.
They all nodded.
"Oh, for sure."
"Probably."
"I like all guys."
Mal turned to Cambry, who was the only one who hadn't spoken yet. "Cam?"
He chuckled. "I'm sure he's great. But I'm also sure I speak for everyone when I say you should bring him around sometime before the trip. Gotta make sure he can handle our brand of crazy before subjecting him to two straight weeks of it."
Mallory considered, then nodded. "Yes, that's understandable. Tori and I will convince him to come bowling with us next weekend. Right, Tor?"

(Okay! I'll start it. ^^ )
For the hour, Tori sat between her best friend, Ian, and Cambry, only half-listening to everything being said. If there was one thing she was good it, it was biding her time and finding the best opportunity to excuse herself. It came in the form of her finishing her second drink of the evening. Finally, with a valid excuse, Tori signed to Mal that she had to go to the bathroom and gave the other girl no time to put up any kind of reply. Why Mal would refuse her that, she didn't know, but she had already done plenty of things she shouldn't have. Finding a reason for her not to go to the bathroom wouldn't have surprised her. So, as quick as she could, she first when to set her empty glass on the bar, picked up her phone, and then headed upstairs to the bathroom on the main floor. There was one on the level they were at, Pax had went off to claim use to it, which she was also thankful for. That just gave her a reason to remove herself entirely from the group for a few minutes at least to clear and organize her thoughts.

Thanks, girl. I feel like it would have taken an age and a half if I'd had to start that. xD Mallory didn't object to Tori leaving for the bathroom - when you had to go, you had to go. She would probably be getting up to go herself sooner than later. In fact, as soon as Pax exited the basement bathroom, Mallory gave Ian a kiss on the cheek, told him she'd be right back, and stole the bathroom.
A few minutes later, long enough that the boys wouldn't notice the women disappearing, Nicole slipped from the room and headed upstairs, where she leaned against the wall across the hall from the bathroom door, hands behind her back, and waited for Tori to appear.
I feel like this is really crappy work, but whatever. xD

No problem. Any time you need me to write more/skip/start, just let me know.
And it's fine. It takes some time to get into new characters. It looks fine to me, and I'm the master of crappy replies. XD
It didn't taken long for Tori to finish up in the bathroom. As much as she would have loved to take half an hour and feign sickness so she could go home, she knew that wouldn't have helped a thing So she took the five minutes that was normal to simply prepare herself for whatever else Mallory might pull while they were here. Upon opening the door, the woman was surprised to see Nicole waiting outside in the hallway. From previous experiences, interactions with Nicole alone hadn't been very pleasant. Either the woman had something to discuss, or she was simply here for the same reason she had been. Really, she didn't care. Without giving her any kind of acknowledgement, she tried to slip back down the hall to rejoin join the others.

She had heard it all before, but that didn't mean Nicole didn't have a way of flaring her temper. Tori could handle the taunts and the jeers of being a mute. Back in high school, it hadn't been as smooth of a process, but she had learned from her mistakes. She could handle people who didn't understand what she had been through, what she still went through, because it was her battle alone. The nightmares couldn't be explained, and even if they could, they wouldn't know the full impact. It drove her to a breaking point once, but she learned that they were tolerable compared to the creatures of her dreams. However, being called a liar wasn't something she was willing to take from anyone, especially not Nicole. Back off, the woman warned, doing all she could not to just reach out and hit her. Even if Nicole didn't know the exact signs, she should have been able to get the message from her body language and glare. The need to defend herself was growing stronger.

Tori wasn't exactly sure what irked her the most about Nicole. It wasn't her words, for the most part. It wasn't the fact that she was part of the "popular" clique, even now out of high school. Yet the longer she spoke, the more Tori just wanted to knock that grin from her face. She wouldn't stand to be called a liar, especially when she was forced into a lie she didn't even agree to in the first place. No matter what she could have said, it wouldn't have matter. It was Mallory's lie, not hers. She was innocent on all accounts for that matter. However, her hand didn't seem to think on that logic. No, instead, her hand reacted on the anger and whatever irritation was seething in her. The young woman didn't even realize what she had done until the sharp smack of her hand slapping across Nicole's face filled her ears. There was no remorse, but there was no satisfaction in it either. Despite how much she had longed to do this, slapping the other woman hadn't actually made anything better. Was it worth it? That could be debatable. Was she sorry? Absolutely not.

When Tori's hand whipped out and connected with Nicole's cheek, her reaction to it was genuine. Her head flew to the side with a gasp, her eyes shut tight. She lifted her hand gingerly to her cheek, already reddening from the hit. But when she opened her eyes and turned to look at Tori again, there was no surprise or pain in her eyes, only a satisfied triumph. Then she blinked, and the expression was instantly replaced by stunned surprise. There was even a sheen of tears in her eyes, and her bottom lip trembled. "You're going to regret that," she whispered, and while the words held a threat, her tone was the shaky, breathy one of someone trying to hold back tears.

The door didn't slam behind her, but she sure wanted to. Tori didn't slow as she left the house. In the fading light of evening, she walked as fast as she could down the street, heading back to her home. Emotions battled in her stomach, anger mostly, and she wasn't sure if she wanted to scream or cry more. Crying had never really helped much, and screaming surely would do no good. So she trudged on in silence, arms crossing around her. It was a good twenty minute walk from Cambry's house to hers, a fact she didn't seemed to care about until she had some time to cool off. With her anger slowly receding, the feeling of being followed began to creep over her.
This was why she never liked to walk home alone at night. Even if she stayed under the light of the streetlamps, she could feel eyes from the shadows following her. Paranoria made her believe things were moving just outside her vision. Faint echos rode on the normal, everyday sounds of city life that were not supposed to be there. She did her best to ignore them, but as the sun got lower, the harder it was to pretend those things weren't there.

(Okay! I apologize if it's a little lackluster. I'm not good with rping evil things. XD)
She was five minutes from her home, and Tori thought she had managed to outrun the creatures lurking about. The sun was just about to set, but a few minutes of darkness could be tolerated since she was this close. If she wasn't in these boots, she might have tried to make a run for it. That is, if she knew she wouldn't accidentally twist her ankle in the process. Just five minutes away, but the presence was stronger than it normally was. Fear clawed at her, which she tried to push aside. It was just her imagination. They would go way. Nothing was out there. Her eyes stayed focused straight ahead of her, too afraid to look anywhere else. Ahead there was a break in the buildings where a small public garden rested. It wasn't large, but it was decent sized and well lit. If she could just get passed that, then it would be a short distance home. Soon she'd be back in the safety of her -
Something reached out and took a hold of her arm before she reached the garden's entrance. Tori felt herself be forcibly turned and dread turned her blood cold. She looked up into a humanoid figure's face, if you could call it that. There were shadows swirling about the creature, but the eyes and grin were oh so plain for her to see. The eyes were a disturbing shade of glowing orange, black where white should have been. His smile was filled with jagged teeth and dripped with some unknown liquid. Drool at best. She didn't want to think of what the worst option could be.
"My, my, you are a hard one to get to," the raspy voice spoke, though she wasn't entirely sure if its mouth moved at all. "A powerful prize to be guarded. I have to say, it's not as much of a challenge anymore, but the reward is still well deserved."
Tori couldn't stand the thing. As soon as the voice stopped speaking, she struggled in its grasp. Kicks meet only air. The hold on her arms were as tight as vices. Before she could react, her body was moving downward. Her head hit the sidewalk with a painful thud. She opened her mouth in a silent cry of pain, quickly turning on her side and holding her head. She had to move. Had to get away. Home was just around the bend, and she could make it. The creature wouldn't follow in. They never followed her in anymore. Yet, before she could even haul herself to her feet, a searing pain tore down her arm. The voice above her chuckled.
"Not challenging to acquire, but that doesn't mean there can't still be some amusement," he stated, grabbing her by the back of the neck and hauling her to her feet once more.

By all the angels in Heaven, Michael had not been wrong about this girl. During the first month of guarding alone Ren had killed over a hundred demons. They were all low class, easy to spot and easy enough to kill, but still. A hundred? In one month? That was a lot.
Ren had been watching the girl go about her daily life between demon killings, and he couldn't for the life of him figure out what was so special about her. She was a Descendant for sure, but either her angelic parent had been hella powerful… or some angel broke the rules a couple generations ago and Victoria Sparks was a much fresher Descendant than usual.
Angels had been forbidden to… mingle with humans for the last three and a half centuries, so any “fresh” Descendant was the product of some angel who broke the rules. A rare occurrence for sure, for a servant of Heaven to break rules but… not impossible.
Things started to escalate three days ago when he killed an Iota demon who was after her. It wasn’t particularly powerful — just vicious — but considering he’d mostly been dealing with demons R class status or lower… It was a big leap, one made even more concerning by the Epsilon demons who were after her now.
Demons who could possess people were dangerous indeed, because while they were inside humans, Angels couldn’t see them. Possessing a human was also like wearing a meat shield, because Guardian Angels weren’t allowed to kill the human to get to the demon; it went against their whole purpose for being on earth. They may have been assigned to one specific person, but that didn’t mean the rest were less important. To an angel, every life mattered.
Even outside a human host, Epsilon demons were deadly, because they never travelled alone. They always came out in packs. If you were lucky, there were only ever three or four banded together and going after their prey. Ren had been guarding Victoria for a month, and if there was one thing she wasn't when it came to demons, it was lucky.
Well, unless you counted the fact she now had him watching her back. She was pretty lucky in that regard.
Then again, maybe his prowess was the whole reason this particular pack of Epsilon demons was so big. While counting to ten was as easy as giving someone a high-ten, it wasn't so easy killing off that many demons. At least, not when one had to do it in a precise and timely fashion, lest he fail in his job and let his charge die. Since it had already been established that that wasn't an option, Ren really brought out his inner badass while killing the shadowy bastards who wanted a taste of his Descendant. Well, not his descentand, but... Ah, whatever. He knew what he meant.
Only, his job turned out to be fairly easy after all. They’d underestimated him. They often did, demons. Ren was smaller than most of his brethren, and younger. The demons assumed this meant he was less skilled as well.
They were wrong. Every. Single. Time.
With a slash of his heavenly blade, Ren dispatched the last demon. Or what he thought was the last demon. But his magic was still tingling, warning him that there was another one nearby. Ren looked around, but when he saw no sign of the missing drmon, he muttered a curse and went to Victoria, figuring that that was were the bastard would be.
Bingo.
There was Victoria, being held by the throat by one shadowy Epsilon demon. It looked quite pleased with itself, while Victoria... Well, she looked terrified, and rightly so. She was seconds away from getting her face bit off.
Not literally, of course. At least... he didn't think so. One could never really be certain of such things, when Epsilon demons were involved.
Ren was several yards away, but with a thought he appeared right behind the demon, seconds before it attacked. Sensing his precense, it reared back with a hiss, letting Victori drop to the ground as it spun quickly to face him.
Not quick enough. Ren's arm shot out. The glowing blade sliced through the demon with a barely a sound. The demon seemed to hover fir a moment, motionless with shock, before it dissolved with a muffled scream.
Ren grinned smugly. "And back to hell you go."

Tori wanted to scream. Every time one of these creatures had gotten close to her, she wanted to scream. Perhaps if she did, then she would wake up from whatever nightmare she had found herself in. Yet the fear sewed into her after all those years, the knowledge that no one was around, it stopped her. The words choked her as she stared pain and terror in the face time and time again. Staring into the orange eyes now, she wondered how long he would sty before vanishing. Whatever they were, they would never stay long. Well, she said that, but to her it always seemed like an eternity. Normally, they would appear, cause some kind of torment, and then leave. Then she would be free of their hold to find there there was no physical marks where the pain had seconds ago burned. After that, she would have a week or two of peace before the next one would show up.
There was a blur of motion behind the creature. Tori had just enough time to notice it before she was dropped. Her feet betrayed her, letting her fall back to the ground as her body shook. This was the feeling she hated. For as much as she knew how to defend herself, these creatures left her helpless, left her at their mercy. Nothing she could do could stop then, and no one she knew could do anything to help her. The young woman looked up to see why she had been dropped. Her eyes widened in surprise. Standing above her, she saw a man who couldn't have been any older then her, stunning in sight, wielding a glowing blade, and surrounded by the fading smoke of what once had been the creature that attacked her. Even in the shock and panic of the situation, a part of her brain was more than aware that he was handsome, but that thought was fleeting. Instead, she was worrying about where he had come from and what he was doing. This never happened. No one ever saw the creatures. So did that mean he was just part of the illusion too? Had her mind finally reached the point of conjuring up heroes of her own imagination?

With the demons thoroughly vanquished, Ren flourished his sword, then returned it smoothly to the sheath strapped to his back. Instantly, sword and sheath vanished, as if they had never been. They were, of course, still there, and would reappear as suddenly as they had vanished if he reached for his sword hilt, but blending in with humans was easier when he didn't have a big, gleaming sword strapped to his back.
At least, blending would be easier if he wasn't invisible to humans. Only...
He looked down at Victoria, glad to see she wasn't hurt, and that was when he realized she was looking at him. Like, at him, at him. As in, she could see him.
"Shit," he muttered, his gaze meeting hers. She still looked terrified; he just looked exasperated. "Damn," he said, adding to his 'shit' with the same bland tone. He looked heavenward with a sigh. "And here I was, thinking I was beyond such rookie mistakes."
Then a thought suddenly occured to him. If he had forgotten to make himself in visible to humans, did that mean his wings were on full display too?
A quick look over his shoulder assured him they were invisible. He loosed a relieved sigh. Having Victoria see him kill a demon was bad, for sure. But if he'd had his wings out as well, then things would have gone from bad to worse. Without wings, he could probably sell her some weird but believable story; with wings, well, selling her anything wouldn't be nearly so simple.

Tori watched as the man returned the sword to his back before it seemed to vanish. Okay so this was an illusion. Just another part of the nightmare that seemed to take her mind. Maybe the alcohol she had consumed was playing a part in it all. Who knows? All she knew was that she no longer wanted to be here.
The man hadn't made a move towards her. In fact, when he finally looked in her direction, he seemed surprised to find her there, made evident by the swearing. Yet still he made no move save for a look over his shoulder. As quickly as she could, she pushed herself to her feet, trying to ignore the fading pain in her arm. Once standing, the young woman stood there for a moment, unsure what to do. If this was an illusion, then would he too turn on her? Would he vanish now that the creature was gone? She would have run if she knew she wouldn't find herself on the wrong side of his blade. Illusion or not, she didn't feel like experience the pain of being stabbed.
