Needlefang | tags: ashwind, anyone at the vigil The skinny tabby tom watched sadly as Cinderflower gave her last farewell before he was buried alongside his mother. The tom gave a sigh of sadness, looking down at his paws. He knew if he thought too much about how unjust the situation was, he'd get overly emotional, and the tom always had a need to keep it together in front of the other cats of the Clan, even in situations like these. Needlefang padded forward as Cinderflower retreated back to her spot, looking sadly down at the brown apprentice's body, now cold and lifeless. His legs shook as he looked down at Acornflight, overwhelmed with sorrow all of a sudden, too much to handle. The tom blinked sadly, his eyes watering with the oncoming threat of tears. Poor Acornpaw. The apprentice could've gone so far, done so much, but his life was taken abruptly by a hawk, of all animals. A vicious hawk. Needlefang boiled with anger at the thought. He hadn't known the apprentice well at all, but for such a young life to be taken hit him harder than any loss they'd had recently. The tom shut his eyes for a moment, fighting back tears. What if that had been him as an apprentice, his life taken forever, void of all opportunities? What if that had been him, gone within just seconds, an entire life stolen away simply because a hawk needed a meal? "Acornflight was a great warrior," he said simply, his sad eyes resting on Pintail as he spoke. The tom gave a sorrowful shake of his head before returning to where he'd sat before. Wildfur | tags: everyone at the vigil
The big tom watched sadly as the scene unwinded before him. Wildfur couldn't believe all of this had happened so suddenly; in just a day, things had changed so much for the Clan. Hadn't they lost enough already? Wildfur shook his head in sorrow as he listened to Cinderflower, then Needlefang's words about the young apprentice, now a warrior in death. Had StarClan been more merciful, or fate itself, for that matter, perhaps the apprentice would've lived and become a warrior in life, not after his passing. Why must life be so cruel? Wildfur shut his eyes for a long moment, praying to StarClan that such a thing would never happen again to the Clan. Heatherpaw | tags: πΉπͺπ»π½π΅π π¬π΅πΈπΎππHeatherpaw listened intently to her mentor's words, wanting nothing more than to get things right; that was all she asked for. She had been so close to making that catch; even if the fish was small, or if her technique was bad, it would still have been progress, which was all she longed for at the moment. Heatherpaw nodded to Gingerglow as he finished speaking. Her blue eyes rested with intensity on the flickering lights bouncing off the river's surface, scanning underneath the water for silver bodies flitting by. Unfortunately, it seemed that she had scared off all the fish earlier; the ones that swam by were merely dark shadows in the deepest depths of the river, far from her reach. The she-cat sat back on her haunches, looking sadly down at her paws. No! I can't mope about this! The she-cat rose back up as quickly as she'd sat down. She had to get this right! What would moping about it do? A new fierceness in her eyes, the she-cat moved to the side a bit; perhaps there would be more fish in different places nearby now that she'd stuck her paw in the water, effectively scaring most of them off. Heatherpaw's ears pushed forward at Gingerglow's words, the young she-cat suddenly more alert. The older tom seemed alarmed. Now distracted from her hunting, the she-cat stepped aside and peered over his shoulder. The tom walked off towards what she could barely make out as the silhouettes of many cats, led by a smaller shape up ahead, who carried another silhouette on his back. Heatherpaw padded forward after her mentor, squinting her eyes and trying to make out the scene happening before them. Was thatβ¦Pintail? She moved closer. On his back was Acornpaw, lying limp and motionless. Heatherpaw's heart instantly plummeted. "Acornpaw!" she wailed, breaking into a run. He couldn't be! He couldn't be dead. Without even waiting for her mentor to speak, the she-cat rushed forward towards the scene, her heart heaving. This couldn't be realβit couldn't be! Acornpaw was one of her closest denmates; her brother, Slatepaw, and Heatherpaw herself had both grown close with the young tom lately. Was this even real? Countless thoughts seemed to enter her mind, all at once. She couldn't quite fathom what was happening. Was her friend really dead? The she-cat stared in horror at the young tom's body as she neared the vigil, still in denial. "Acornpaw?" said the she-cat in a hoarse whisper. "Please wake upβ¦" Heatherpaw sank down to her chest, burying her head in her paws as she crouched down on the riverbank. He's gone.

- Multiple Perspectives - New Leaf ; Sun-high
Dawn passed, and the warriors sitting vigil for Acornflight made their way back their dens, save Pintail, who slept noiselessly by his buried family. Scorchstar places his tail tip on the resting tomβs shoulder and left him to sleep in peace. Flicking his tail towards Cinderflower he quietly dismissed her to the medicine den for herbs and rest. Scorchstar himself went to his own nest, only to find his mate, Ashenpool already curled up and asleep. Quietly, as not to disturb the pregnant she-cat, he lay down beside her with his body wrapped around hers. It felt like the dark ginger tom blinked and it was already sun high. Good thing I dismissed activities for this morning, otherwise cats would be irritated at me for sleeping in. Scorchstar stretched his muscular legs, and padded out of his den, stifling a big yawn.
Making his way slowly to the top of the gorge, the tom drew a paw over his ear lazily. βMay all cats old enough to catch their own pray, meet me here at the bottom of the gorge.β The tom waited patiently for the cats to swarm out of their dens for him to address them. βThe time has come my fellow clan, to chose a new deputy. It has been far too long since Brightsky passed and Ashenpool moved to the nursery, and this clan is in need of more leadership... However... there are too many capable warriors and choosing one would be too difficult.β The dark ginger tom paused for effect. βBluepoppy, Gingerglow, Cinderflower, and Needlefang. Step forward.β

(Sorry, very quick post to confirm that I'm here!!! And RPing!!! ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/6575102/images/Zk1a5XUEHw6Q8FG1L5Qy.gif) ) Nightwillow had only just woken up, and slowly padded down to the gorge, joining the crowd. The elderly tom had been quite behind on Clan news, but he knew about the lack of a deputy in the Clan. All in all, he disapproved - they'd never gone this long without a deputy before, and he didn't like it. Stormwisp sat on his haunches towards the back of the crowd, listening carefully to the deputy choices. He thought over the names for a few moments, humming quietly to himself. Four capable cats - he approved, no matter which one became deputy.

Cedarthorn sat down along the egde of the gathering cats looking up at Scorchstar holding back a yawn. This was a strange way of picking deputy for the clan, would this be a norm for the clan or was this a one time thing, the four cats that were called were good candidates for deputy and would service the clan well.
Kestreldapple settled down looking up at Scorchstar make his acouncement about the next clan deputy, she made sure to pay close attention to each cat called up and knew this would be intersesting choice and events to unfold for the clan.
Mottelpaw padded out the Apprentice's den hearing Scorchstar's yowl and sat down as Bluepoppy, Gingerglow, Cinderflower, and Needlefang were called up by Scorchstar wondering how the choice for the next deputy would be made.
Sage slipped out the Nursery settling down at the back of the crowd releasing a soft yawn as she shock out her fur before looking up at Scorchstar as he spoke, the clan ways were certainly different then what Sage was use to living with other rogues but this was quite intersesting to see how Scorchstar would choose the next deputy.

Cinderflower // with the clan { too lazy to tag }
Cinderflower cocked her head to one side as Scorchstar called her name, but she padded forward nonetheless. It was a shock, that she was being considered for deputy. Briefly, a spiteful part of her wondered if this was only because of Acornflight's death the previous day. But she shook that off quickly. Scorchstar was better than that. If he'd been considering her for deputy, he would have been considering it for some time now. Acornflight wasn't her first apprentice - so it couldn't have been because of him that she was being considered. She wasn't too hopeful, though, to be named. The other three cats that had been named were great warriors. Needlefang especially seemed a good fit - at least to her.
sorry it's so short -.-'

Needlefang | tags: ashwind, everyone? The brown tabby tom stepped curiously out of his den. He'd been unable to fall asleep the night before, spending most of the time in his nest tossing and turning endlessly until he eventually fell asleep; that felt like only minutes ago. Needlefang's shoulders were sore and his head felt heavy on his neck, but the tom still padded out of his den proudly as ever as he approached the line of other contenders. To his surprise, Pintail hadn't been called. The smaller brown warrior was older than he was, and had as much as a chance as any to become deputy. With a sinking feeling, Needlefang remembered all that had happened the day before. Acornpaw's death had shaken Pintail deeply. Needlefang guessed he would need some time before he was back to himself, but even time might not be enough to heal the emotional wounds of losing an only kit. Blinking away his sad thoughts, Needlefang tried to focus on the positives. The tom had been seen worthy of being deputy by Scorchstar himself, which was a great honor. Cheering up a little, the tabby tom waited patiently with the other cats for Scorchstar's next move. Wildfur | tags: ?, πΉπͺπ»π½π΅π π¬π΅πΈπΎππWildfur's eyes opened groggily; shuffling to his paws, the big tom winced as he crawled out of his cozy nest and into the bright sunlight. The fluffy tom stared curiously at the scene unfolding before him. It was certainly unusual for a Clan leader to choose his deputy like this, but it would be interesting to see how things would unfold. There was certainly a good lineup sitting before them; Wildfur could see how it was difficult for Scorchstar to make a definite choice. Let's see how this plays out, he thought, making his way over to his sister, Magnoliabloom, and taking a spot beside her. "I wonder how this'll turn out," he mused to the she-cat in a low voice. Heatherpaw | tags: πΉπͺπ»π½π΅π π¬π΅πΈπΎππHeatherpaw heard her leader's call, but was even more reluctant than usual to leave her nest. The weight of Acornpaw's loss still bore heavily down on her. The young she-cat's eyes were nearly swollen shut from the tears she'd cried the night before; her heart felt like a stone in her chest. The last thing she wanted was to get up, so the she-cat tucked her head in her paws, feeling the tears welling up again, to her dismay. There were so many things wrong with what had happened, too many to even count, but what bothered Heatherpaw most was that StarClan had let such a thing happen, especially to a young apprentice. Heatherpaw knew just as well that it could've been her who died, but for unknown reasons, Acornpaw had been in the hawk's path at the wrong time. With a grumble, Heatherpaw rose to her feet like a shaky kit. She felt feeble and weak, as though she hadn't eaten in days, and her fur was ruffled all over the place. The she-cat certainly looked more unkempt than usual. Reluctantly Heatherpaw rose from her nest, her bones stiff and creaky like an elder's. The she-cat didn't even bother to groom herself, as rough as she looked. Padding slowly across the clearing and not caring who saw her, Heatherpaw found a place beside Slatepaw and sat wordlessly down beside her littermate. The tired expression in her eyes spoke more than any words could, she figured, and besides that, the she-cat wasn't in much of a talking mood.

Gingerglow | @ripper , ashwind, @ everyone at the meeting | camp
The time after Acornflight's death hadn't been easy for anyone in the clan. For Gingerglow, it saddened him to know such a young life was cut short, but also hardened his training of Heatherpaw. The normally lively molly was now sullen and unenthusiastic. His heart ached for his student, who had been close friends with Acornflight. Her faith had been shaken as well; Gingerglow was honestly worried for Heatherpaw. He needed to discuss it with Scorchstar and/or perhaps Poppyspots, if there was any way she could help.
The ginger tom was busy doing nothing, sitting outside of the warriors' den, when he spotted Scorchstar make his way towards the bottom of the gorge. His ears perked with interest as the leader looked prepared to make an announcement; Gingerglow had an idea of what it was about. He waited apprehensively, listening closely to what Scorchstar had to say. His amber eyes widened when he heard his name called, along with three other candidates. Never once had he expected to be a qualifier for the deputy's position. He wasn't necessarily surprised with the other choices; Bluepoppy, Cinderflower, and Needlefang were all cats he could picture as deputies. Although, he wondered if Cinderflower would be up for the job after what happened to her apprentice. But, then again, Scorchstar wouldn't have said anything about her if he didn't think she was capable. As for him; he was never an ambitious tom, but still is grateful for the opportunity. Even if he wasn't chosen, he would still appreciate the honor.
As he made his way towards where Scorchstar stood in wait, Gingerglow noticed Heatherpaw slipping out of the den to join her brother, Slatepaw. The grey she-cat looked worse than ever, sending a wave of saddness and guilt over the slender tom. He wanted to help her badly, but she wasn't giving him much of a chance. His paws moved to go an console her, but after remembering what was going on, the tom released a sigh as he went to join the other candidates.
Slatepaw | @ripper , everyone at the meeting | camp
Releasing a large yawn, the dark-furred tom emerged from the apprentices' den at an early hour. After a restless night of sleep, Slatepaw was exhausted, but at the point where he couldn't even try to go back to sleep. Dawn was barely creeping up the sky when he first arose, but he decided to wait in his nest a while longer. He kept a close eye on his sister, Heatherpaw, who was also dealing with Acornflight's loss in a hard way. They both were devastated and barely wanted to talk to anyone, but in honesty, Heatherpaw was worse than he was at this point. He had been able to let out his emotion before she had, who first found out when seeing the funeral procession arrive at the river.
Slatepaw wasted time grooming himself outdoors while the rest of the clan began stirring in their nests. Scorchstar was one of the first cats awake besides Slatepaw, who watched the elder tom make his way to the clan's usual meeting spot. Slatepaw paused his work and watched as Scorchstar opened his jaws and made an announcement. The apprentice couldn't help but frown; they were already naming a deputy and moving on from Acornflight's death. For some reason, that seemed unfair to him, but he pushed his opinions aside and slowly trotted over to the bottom of the gorge. He looked over when he suddenly noticed Heatherpaw beside him. He didn't say anything to her, only pressed his pelt against hers in silent comfort.
Magnoliabloom | @ripper | camp
After the burial, Magnoliabloom had left the vigil behind to go get some rest. She wanted to save the more personal moments for the cats closer to Acornflight, which did not include her. She had slept fitfully, though, her mind still focused on the day's events. It had been so normal; it appalled her how quickly things could change like that. It also made her contemplate the value of life in a different way; it never really occurred to her that bad things could happen to young apprentices, too.
The next morning found the white-furred molly being awoken by the rousing call of Scorchstar, announcing that he would be deciding the new deputy today. Magnoliabloom had gotten up immediately; she was in need something better to think about. She came to a halt where Scorchstar had instructed, looking over her shoulder when her brother settled down at her side. "Me too," she murmured, turning her gaze back to the four chosen felines. "I don't know who he's going to choose."

ummm - basically acornpaw died but cinderflower gave him his name before he passed, she brought him back to camp and the clan sat vigil, though heatherpaw/gingerglow were training when it happened so they didn't find out until they saw the clan bring acornpaw/flight to the river to bury him. the vigil happened, and now it's the next day and scorchstar has called a clan meeting to discuss his candidates for deputy. he chose four - cinderflower, gingerglow, bluepoppy, and needlefang

Juniperbush | Tags: Anyone | In Camp Juniperbush rose from her seat to join the clan's meeting. She was quiet and sat to the edge of the group, Juniperbush wasn't really one for sitting where she felt trapped in a way. Nothing against her clanmates, it's not like she didn't trust them or anything. More so, it was because she didn't like smaller or tight spaces. The color-point curled her tail around her paws once she'd sat and began to listen to Scorchstar's words. It'd be nice to have a new deputy around, she thought, someone to help Scorchstar definitely. Leadership seems to be immensely difficult at times if not then always so. Her eye's followed the leaders words to each individual candidate.Maplewing | Tags: Anyone | In Camp Maplewing's ear flickered at the call from Scorchstar. He lifted himself to his paws and took his seat in the crowd. It was exciting to hear about getting a new deputy, and as far as he could tell, everyone choice was worthy of being so. Maybe that was him being too kind. He'd never been the best judgement of character though, not to imply that the candidates were bad or had malicious intent in any way. Maplewing thought for a moment, he understood the leaders struggle to pick between four excellent warriors to eventual succeed him as leader. The tom was a bit glad he wasn't in the leaders place for now.
Tumblepaw | Tags: Anyone | In Camp A lively apprentice, Tumblepaw was quick to make his way to the meeting, sitting down as close as he could to the front. His eyes watched the scene unfold and Scorchstar speak up about a new deputy. Wouldn't that be so cool? To be chosen to help lead the clan! The apprentice knew he wouldn't ever get the chance, no matter how much he dreamed. Tumblepaw wasn't a good leader, never had been and probably never would be. It didn't sadden him as much as it used too, he knew his skills and personality would be useful somewhere, probably. Maybe? Hopefully so.Spottedpaw | Tags: Anyone | In Camp Spottedpaw sat wherever there was an empty space. She didn't care if she was in the middle, the front, or the outskirts of the grouping. She still felt happy to participate in the clan's activities. The leader began his speech and the apprentice listened. Since she was small, she'd always thought about maybe being the deputy one day, maybe leader. It was an unlikely idea but if she worked hard enough, it was possible. Though, nothing to Spottedpaw was impossible. She searched for the leader's chosen warriors in the crowd, all seemed to be very good choices.

Thistleleap looked at the cats scorchstar chose. Good choices, though like any other warrior he wished it was himself. He looked around, large build letting him see lots of the crowd. He looked at an apprentice reaching his head above the others so he could see. He stood up and squeezed past the others to reach the apprentice.β Tumblepaw, I know a better view.β He murmured into the apprenticeβs ear. He turned around and padded through a gap in the crowd. By a small thistle bush near the front he sat down, his pelt shielding him from the thorns. He continued to watch.

The cream colored tom looked to Thistleleap and nodded eagerly. He really did want to be able to see the whole thing! He stood up as quietly and nondisruptively as he could and followed the warrior towards the bush "Thank you Thistleleap" he whispers quietly. It'd be considered rude to just take a seat and not thank him, even if it was just a minor amount of help. The apprentice now sat and watched the ceremony from there.

βNo problem.β He whispered and watched the ceremony, his eyes flickered from cat to cat. He looked back at tumble paw, he could see through the gleam in his eye that this was an exciting moment for him. βExciting isnβt it?β He murmured softly as he remembered his days as an apprentice and how awesome everything was.
