The Story Before Before there was the Clan of Golden, there were two 'clans'. One lived in a maze. One lived in a gorge. Both lived in constant fear that the other would attack them. Until, eventually, one side did attack the other. The clans dissolved into chaos and panic. A few cats, however, decided that the only way for any memory or trace of culture to survive was to leave the territories and venture into a new land.
And so, the Clan of Golden was formed.

Cover
Chapter 1 Begins...
Woot woot! I hope you guys understand why it took this long ^^; Shading and background are a lot of work!
For explanation: see first post
Fernstar, isn't that extreme? (Not to worry, there are reasons for this - although, yes, it is rather extreme.)
So since I won't manage to put this into the comic properly: Fernstar is a cat who has the general respect of her clan, but doesn't know how to make good speeches or enforce her own laws. But Owlclaw does. So he's deputy. Sunmask often pitches in to help out with writing out speeches (which doesn't always go well).
Introducing (properly and by name) Honeypaw! I also had fun doing backgrounds, you can probably tell!
Rock backgrounds! And, uh - Honeypaw's not in the mood for discussion.
Well what do you know? Also Honeypaw glares are fun.
We're not even in the main plot yet and we already have yelling
and thus ends the prologue! See you all at Chapter 1!
*trumpet fanfare*

Trivia, Bloopers, Fun Facts
MazeClan Features and culture
- Physical normalcies: round cobby-ish heads, mostly pale gingers, creams, and browns and the occasional whites and russets; tortoiseshells (especially dilute tortoiseshells) are common. Most have lithe, sleek figures to help them quickly navigate the maze and its surrounding plains. (Fun fact: the ‘classic tabby swirl stripe’ is a pattern that exists exclusively for the leader family, which you can see in Valleyfrost and his relatives.) - Physical anomalies: anything dark, such as black, dark gray, or dark brown. Grayish blues and grayish browns are also uncommon. Thick fur or wispy fur are not normally seen. Large, muscular builds or large paws are rare as well. (In case of muscular builds a cat could decide to build themselves up, but most don’t due to the fact that more bulk only made it harder for them to run through the maze.) - Has a set of three trials apprentices had to undergo to become full warriors (hunting / knowledge of history and the code – navigation of the maze – battle moves / sparring) - Has a hierarchy – the leader’s kit will become the next leader (or close relative, if the leader had no children) - Does not believe in StarClan but believes that there were spirits, or more accurately a form of energy in the ground that determines whether a portion of land is a propitious site or not. (If any of you are familiar with feng shui, you may understand what this means.) Medicine cats are trained to understand the geographical conditions and navigational conditions that allowed for an ideal spot. - Deputies and medicine cats are not as highly regarded as the leaders, but they are highly respected within the clan. - The most important part of the warrior code to them is “The leader’s word is law”. Cats who disobey are severely punished. - Has no medicine cat code; medicine cats are allowed to have mates one moon after they received their full name. - Knows how to use herbs and flowers to keep away bugs. - Toms are encouraged to spend time with their children while their mates are out doing warrior duties. - Is not very open to outsiders, but nevertheless takes in cats who claim they escaped from GorgeClan.
GorgeClan
- Physical normalcies – dark / grayish / saturated / diluted colors like black, gray, blue, grayish brown, or silver. Smokes, points, and ticked tabbies are the most common patterns. Fur length varies as many originate from cats who are not native to the area, but the most common is semi-long or medium length. Some have webbed paws, as GorgeClan is closer to the stream that separates the two clans and as such members of the clan learn to swim from an early age. Round muzzles and sleek-furred, lanky builds are common. (Fun fact: spiky fur is a common pattern for the current leading family.) - Physical anomalies – anything bright, like ginger or lilac, cream and reddish hues. A cat can have white blazes / paws / tail tips, but nearly none have over half white spotting. (Tan or fawn aren’t as uncommon but still considerably rare.) It’s hard to see angled features or pointed muzzles. It’s also hard to find cats with extremely short or long fur. Ear tufts are very rare. - Very open to anyone, especially if they formerly came from MazeClan. (Not for spying reasons, however. GorgeClan’s purposes for welcoming with open arms are anything but hostile towards their neighboring clan.) - ‘Marriage ceremonies’ are held. The leader usually pronounces a couple as mates at dawn and they take half of the day off to spend some time together. - The leader’s successor is hand-picked as a kit and then specifically trained to be ready for the duties as leader. The deputy’s successor and medicine cat’s successor are usually picked from the same litter or from a litter that’s born not too long after. - GorgeClan’s ranks are clear-cut – one is born to be a leader, a deputy, medicine cat, warrior, or queen. - Medicine cats can’t take mates, but taking the deputy or the leader as a mate (as long as they aren’t related) is tolerated. - They are not very superstitious, but often tell tales and legends of heroes who did the impossible or beings that ‘don’t exist now but did back then’. One such example is the Reflection Ghost, which can be observed in HAUNTED, a short story written by myself. From MazeClan: Fernstar, Owlclaw Sunmask, Roseclaw, Valleyfrost, Thicketfur, Jayflower, Honeystep, Viperpaw, Frondpaw, Rabbitstrike, Hazeflower, Whitesnow From GorgeClan: Stormcrest, Puddleheart, Pinepaw, Hollyshade Formerly loner / rogue / kittypet before joining MazeClan - Creekwater Formerly loner / rogue / kittypet before joining GorgeClan - Emberleap, Cloverwillow, Bearstorm Lived in both - Feathernose (also used to be a loner)

Hey guys! Sorry I haven’t been uploading anything here - the thing is, I wanted to finish up the clan allegiances sheet before posting the first page! (If anyone wants to see the first chapter cover page, I already posted it on my deviantART.) Sorry for the delay!

Allegiances and Chapter 1 cover up! On a slight reconsideration, I should have had more oranges and blues. That’s a whole lot of brown cats. (So probably might be redesigning a lot during the comic?)
