Astrape Vetton This above all: to thine own self be true
Astrape heard whispered words, and the young redhead looked over to see a boy who looked maybe two or three years older than her. She wasn’t certain which district he was from, but she knew he wasn’t a career. A slingshot would never be a flashy enough weapon for a career, and a career would never offer a random tribute training advice.
“Oh, thanks,” she said with a small, grateful smile.
She followed his advice, reloading the slingshot and firing it again, this time taking a breath and holding it before she fired. It worked! Or, at least, she hit the target this time. A little more practise and a slight adjustment of her aim would have her proficient with the slingshot in no time. When she saw her shot was successful, she looked over to the boy, offering him another smile.
“Thanks,” she said again “I have no idea what I’m doing if I’m honest, I’ve never used a weapon before. I’m Astrape, District 5,”
Now was her chance to learn his name and his district, and perhaps even get an ally for the Arena. Or else just a friendly face if she needed it. The more people in that arena who wouldn’t try and kill her immediately, the better. She knew the Careers would think her easy pickings because she was young and not particularly strong. She needed to play this carefully.

Everest had woken up before the sun every morning since arriving at the Capitol. He ate a protein filled breakfast, then would work out on his own, before hitting up the training center. As expected, it was never very crowded so early in the morning, but that's how he liked it. The boy had two missions this particular morning: the first was to train, of course. But the second was to assess the other tributes, and figure out which ones would make the best allies, and which ones would be the easiest targets in the arena.
Walking around with a sword casually hanging from his hand, Everest surveyed the large room, which echoed with the sounds of weapons hitting targets as the few tributes trained in their own silence. One girl caught his eye, as she was throwing axes, and seemed relatively skilled at it. But when she moved on to the shelter making station, she seemed to not as knowledgeable.
Striding over, Everest set down his sword, sat down next to the girl, whom he knew was from district 7. Though it wasn't a career district, he had hopes this girl might be a valuable asset in the arena, while still not too much of a threat that allying with her would put himself in danger. She was the perfect candidate, at least, from what he knew at that moment. But he planned on learning more.
"If you're trying to build a strong shelter, you're going to want to do it like this," he said, breaking the silence between them as she showed her a technique he had learned in preparation for the games.

Amadrya Darrow The fire-eyed maid of smoky war
Amadrya was surprised to hear a voice next to her; she was aware that a male tribute, the one from 2 she was sure, had seated himself next to her, but she hadn’t expected him to break the silence between them. To be honest, she’d expected him to think he was too good to talk to a non-career tribute. But perhaps she had misjudged him.
When she first heard his voice her instinct had been to snap at him, asking what he wanted, because she didn’t trust him. But when he started to show her a technique for the shelter, she softened a little.
She watched as he showed her the technique, before attempting it herself. It wasn’t quite as neat and precise as Everest’s, but it would hold. And it would make a strong shelter, she could tell as much. With practise she would be able to do it with a similar level of finesse to Everest, hopefully anyway. Though he had been training for years, so probably not.
“So this is the magical Career way of doing it, huh?” Amadrya said with a raised eyebrow. But her smile (which was rare coming from her) would be enough to show him she was just joking and meant no harm by it.
“I’m Amadrya,” she said by way of introduction, before adding, “I thought Careers liked the really flashy stations, with the swords and shiny things. What brings you over here with me?”
In fact, she’d seen he had a sword next to him, which only proved her point more, and she nodded towards it when she mentioned the swords.

Astrape Vetton This above all: to thine own self be true
Astrape shook Elliot’s hand when he offered it, and nodded when he said he was from district 3.
“Ah, that makes a lot of sense,” she responded “I figured you’d be 3 or something. You seemed too nice to be a career, but smart enough to know how to use weapons decently.”
She laughed a little when he said he wasn’t career level.
“Hey, I wouldn’t want to be,” she said with a shrug “I wouldn’t want to be anything like them.”
She looked around the room at the other tributes, taking them in. There were so many strong tributes this year.
“How’re you feeling about the tributes this year?” Astrape asked “I don’t think I’d fancy my chances in a fight with most of them.”
Of course, that was why she planned on a stealthy, distance-weapon kind of strategy. She didn’t plan on actually engaging any tributes in a proper fight if she could avoid it.

Astrape Vetton This above all: to thine own self be true
When Elliot suggested that they could team up, Astrape was a little surprised. She hadn’t really expected that, mainly because she wasn’t sure exactly what this boy saw in her as an ally. But hey, maybe he saw something in her that she didn’t.
“Are you sure?” Astrape asked “You did just have to show me how to use a slingshot.”
Her words were meant in a light or joking way, but there was a serious layer beneath it. Her wondering why he wanted to be her ally. But after those words, there was a brief pause before she smiled and nodded.
“Sure, I’d be happy to team up with you.”
She barely knew him, but he seemed decent enough and she knew she could rely on him in the Arena. Hopefully if they were still together towards the end of the Games they could go their separate ways so neither had to stab the other in the back.
She loaded up another shot of her own, feeling a little more confident after Elliot had given her the tip about holding her breath. This time, she was slightly closer to the centre. She just had to keep practising, this was the weapon she needed in the Arena. She didn’t even have to stop at the bloodbath if she chose that as her weapon, because she could probably find a way to make one if she wanted to.

Burton Acton And either victory, or else a grave
Catullus Acton lay in bed, staring into the darkness of his room, into the black nothingness. For years after his Games he hadn't been able to sleep in the dark. He could now, but it made little difference on the worst nights.
It was not long after the end of the 100th Hunger Games, the night following his interaction with the president, when he had been forced to drink that poison. He knew it was working, because there was an aching pain in his abdomen, a dull throbbing that seemed to only be getting worse. He knew it wouldn't kill him, he'd been told so, but he knew it was already doing its job of making him ill.
He welcomed the pain, in a way, because it encouraged him to try and sleep just so he could escape it. He didn't sleep a lot these days, and he slept very little while he was presenting the Games. It wasn't fully over yet, with Mallory Libelle's victor's tour coming up.
He closed his eyes, knowing full well what was about to happen. But he didn't have the strength to stay up all night again. He had to get some semblance of sleep. And so he felt himself drifting off into blackness.
First he felt the rising of the tribute tube, could hear the slight whir as it moved upwards. And then he reflexively blinked, adjusting to sudden light. It took a few moments for the Arena to come into focus, but Catullus knew what it looked like anyway. The image had never left his mind in the decade since his Games.
First huge blurry shapes, and then they came into sharp focus. A city. A ruined city, really. Crumbling skyscrapers, an almost dusty feel to the air, probably from the rubble of collapsing buildings.
Catullus knew he was Burton once again, he could feel it was his younger self. He had seen his own Games afterwards, and he knew what he had looked like when he first entered that Arena. A quick burst of pure panic flashing across his eyes when he first rose up into the arena, and then the adrenaline kicked in. He remembered that in those last few seconds of the countdown he had looked like he was just desperate to run.
He could feel his heart thudding in his chest as he looked around at the ring of tributes. Faces he would later see projected into the sky. He knew all of them, their names and faces so deeply ingrained into his memory that he didn't think he would ever forget them. He looked at them one by one, going around the circle. He focused on each face, remembering their individual deaths. Alessandro Rune, Sapphire Ridgeway, Everest Stonewell, Macaria Slayte, Elliott Sawyer, Harper Leighson, Jonas Dell, Halina Flynn, Otto Wildes, Astrape Vetton, Carlo Valentine, Ireena Pivy, Ari Casas, Amadrya Darrow, Elijah Korynn, Corvina Blair, Hunter Williams, Riley Romanov, Darius, Destiny Ghere, Gus Fairwish and Robin Ètienne. None of them would survive. He knew which of them would perish almost immediately in the bloodbath, and he knew which one would be the final tribute he would face.
But the most important of these people to him was the girl standing next to him. Holly Alandria, the girl from his district. The only person in the Games he’d really cared about at the time, his ally and friend. He swallowed when he saw her face; she came to mean far more to him than the others. Far more than she knew, and far more than even he’d known at the time.
She wouldn’t make it out of that Arena either, but he suspected she’d known that all along. Even now he wondered if she’d planned for him to be the victor.
He listened as the countdown began.
10...9...8
He was Burton Acton again
7...6...5
He was eighteen years old.
4...3...2
He was the tribute for District 8 in the 90th Hunger Games.
He prepared himself to run, muscles tensing as he slightly leaned forwrd, ready to move as soon as the coundown ended.
...1
He started to run, and everything faded once again. But Catullus knew that wasn't the end. He was about the relive the Games all over again, like he had done so many times before.

Sapphire noticed a few more tributes come in especially the cute guy from two. She cracks her knuckles before making her way towards the knife throwing station. Time to show these tributes who they will be dealing with! Sapphire made sure to hold her head up high and keep her face confident. As she walked by the other tributes, she would either glare or wink at them.
Once she reaches the station, Sapphire picks up one of the knives and spins it around in her fingers. She looks at the target, pulls back her arm, and sends the knife right into the target dummy's head. She glanced around to see if anymore else noticed before throwing the rest of the knives aiming at different parts of the human.

- - - - - Holly Alandria Holly was climbing, but her focus was jagged. She froze as her hand slipped, and quickly fixed her grip, and finished up quickly. She left that station fast, she had a lot to learn still, and not enough room for failure. But she smiled, seeing her District partner, and headed in his direction.
She had a specific thing she wanted to show for her private session, but she didn’t know how to do it. Stealing, her best talent, made up from her best skills, wasn’t so easy to show. She had no idea what to do. She could use knives and katanas, but she wasn’t trained in them.
She stopped at the shelter building station, one next to Burton, it would be a good skill to learn. No matter the type of arena, she needed this knowledge. She mimicked the expert, learning the beginnings of the work, eyes narrowed with focus.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Alessandro at the Gauntlet, the training station set up to test endurance and the ability to dodge, jumping swiftness. It would be perfect for her, her small size made her adapt to dodging, she could jump fairly well, but her swiftness was her best bet for that, and her stealthiness. But she quickly glanced back at the work she was doing, sighing as she made a small mistake, and corrected it.
She wondered how everyone else was doing with the games, she wondered if Macaria was right. Would they all turn to kill, would they hide?
What was Burton going to do?

- - - - - Robin ÉttienneRobin glanced at the training center before her. She just wanted to be done with this. She was scared, she was lonely. She wanted to go home.
She couldn’t, and probably wouldn’t, she was by far one of the youngest tributes. But she wanted to belief she could, for her, and her sister.
She approached the archery table, she could use slingshots, and her sister was training her with the bow. Maybe with some practice, she could get used to more of the long distance weapons,
She picked the bow up, grabbing an arrow, and standing, on foot before another, body square to the bow, arrow point to her cheek, eye trained on the target. She let off a breath, letting go of the string, smiling as the arrow made it close to the chest of the dummy, closer to the right shoulder. She had a lot to learn, but maybe, just maybe, she could do it.
She really wanted to think so, anyways.
(Hey look on of my characters for once reflects the weapon I use in real life XD. I don’t hunt, I just train with it for fun.)

Burton Acton And either victory, or else a grave
Burton quickly noticed that Holly had left the climbing station and had, in fact, moved to the station next to him. The shelter-building one, another very useful skill for the both of them in the Arena. He thought it better for him not to cover the same things Holly was covering, at least at first, so they could have as many key skills between them as possible without missing any out.
But he could still talk to her from where he was, which was nice, so he looked over and gave her a smile.
“Morning,” he greeted “you beat me down here, huh?”
He looked around the room at the other tributes, trying to assess them as best he possibly could. The Careers were an obvious threat, and there were several other strong tributes. This might be a tough year.
“So, what do you make of the others so far? Who do you think is the biggest threat?” he asked her
When he said those final words, he had leaned a little closer and lowered his voice so he could ask her without any tributes nearby listening in to their conversation. He didn’t want to risk that one.
