Honeykit scrambled up from the ground immediately as soon as he hit the floor, and the fur along his spine rose slightly as he grew more excited. "Okay, but ma says we can't play rough," he mewed, cocking his head to the side. He dropped into a clumsy crouch, paws splayed out awkwardly, and sprang at Silverkit with a delighted squeak, reaching out for her with his forepaws. He missed her as he landed, but spun around to face her again, his tail waving in the air.

Shadefang turned her head to Fawnstep, and her expression softened. "N-No, it's fine, I'm sorry," she replied quietly, and guilt dropped in her stomach. She didn't mean to look so upset. "If you say you're alright, then I believe you." She glanced back at Snailpaw, who was giving them a weird look, then said out loud. "Come on, we''ll head toward the other end of the stream."

Fawnstep followed slowly, still using Shadefang as support every now and then. When they reached the bottom of the mountain she hesistated, the climb down did put a number on her already aching limbs. She shook her head and continued on, not letting it slow her down anymore than it was already was. She hadn't been on a border patrol in a while and this would be a great opportunity for her to see if she could find Flintfur or find a cat who perhaps had seen him. If we bring Flintfur back we will be praised greatly! And Cloudsplash will be happier..

Shadefang stayed at Fawnstep's side as they climbed down, making sure she didn't misstep and take a tumble. Snailpaw hopped along behind them, clearly excited to be going out of camp beyond where she normally went. When they made it to the forest floor, Shadefang kept close to her side, noticing how going down the mountainside had affected Fawnstep. Snailpaw tilted her head at them, then hurried to get closer to them. "You two are awfully close together," she pointed out, eyes big. "Are you mates?"

Icebreeze laughed as well. "Perfect form, the picture of grace, " he let off a purr of amusement, his eyes glowing as he continued to laugh. Slowly, he calmed. "That was pretty good. We'll practice that one," he smiled.

Fawnstep shook her head, laughing. "No, Snailpaw we are not mates." She cast a look over to Shadefang, the she-cat and her had grown closer since she returned and even a little before that but she couldn't imagine the two of them actually becoming mates. Only because she could see how she might annoy her a lot. She couldn't help a certain feeling she got around Shadefang though, not like her heart was racing but something...calmer? Who knows.

Honeykit squealed in both fright and excitement as the moss covered him, and he scrambled to his paws in an attempt to wriggle out from underneath the fuzzy green blanket. As soon as he was out he scooped a wad of moss up in one paw and flung it at Silverkit, not really aiming but throwing it in her general direction. He purred, grinning broadly.

While Fawnstep was talking, Shadefang gave Snailpaw an angry glare over her shoulder before looking back at the other warrior. "I'm just helping her since she's a little sore," she said, then looked to the territory ahead. Fawnstep was her best friend, and she loved all the moments they spent together. But they couldn't be mates. Shadefang had such a hard time getting close without getting frustrated.
Snailpaw twitched her whiskers. "Well, Snaketooth and Robinsong stand close together like that and they're mates, so," she continued, holding back a giggle. "Just making an observation." She stuck her tongue out at Shadefang before hurrying ahead of the two warriors.

Fawnstep watched as the apprentice ahead and turned her attention to Shadefang. "Remind me, why did I agree to apprentice watch with you?" She joked, choosing to not bring up what was said by Snailpaw. The words still rang in her ears though, did they stand really close even when she wasn't hurt? She couldn't think of too many times she was too close to Shadefang, just close enough.

Shadefang shook her head. "Brokennose has more to deal with than I thought," she said with a smile. However, she did rather like the little apprentice's spirit. She watched Snailpaw hurry ahead of them and called out, "Watch out for the stream!" It flowed so quietly sometimes that you wouldn't realize how close you were until your paws got wet.
Snailpaw shouted back over her shoulder, "I got it!" before she bumped her head right into the trunk of a tree. She quickly hopped to her paws and licked her chest a few times, avoiding eye contact with the two warriors.

Fawnstep gave her a nod and settled beside the water for a few moments. "Seems like the water died down at least, I know last time Fogstar was here he had to use the stones up ahead." She commented, nodding her head to the stones a bit away from them. She felt at peace here, her bones less achy now. She turned her head to gaze across the water, taking in this small moment of clarity in their territory. She could see the houses and their outside borders, she scented the air for anything of interest but her nose was just filled with the stale border markings and the strong scents of trees. She rested for a few more moments before standing up, she was about to walk a bit ahead when she realized if she kept acting like she was super hurt like she was she could lean on Shadefang, just because they were friends and she enjoyed their closeness though.

Shadefang nestled herself beside Fawnstep, curling her tail around her paws, and looked down at the water. "You're right. The snow is nearly done melting off the mountain," she agreed. Then she let the silence settle as they sat for a while. She wanted to just relish in how close Fawnstep was to her own fur, and enjoy the view from the stream's bank. The weather was just so... nice. But they had a patrol to finish. The borders on this side of territory tended to get stale due to a lack of activity in these parts. Shadefang glanced around to see where Snailpaw was, but the apprentice wasn't nearby. And in the same moment, she heard a hiss and a shriek. "Snailpaw?" she said, moving to her paws.

Fawnstep gave Shadefang a confused look before rushing to the sound, forgetting how her body was hurting. She needed to see what was wrong with the apprentice. She quickly went into the water and crossed it, climbing to the shore on the other side. She hoped Snailpaw was okay, if she wasn't then...they'd be in deep trouble, not just that but she wasn't sure she could live with herself if she let an apprentice get hurt under her watch. No matter how annoying they can be. She was nearing where the noise was, she checked to see if Shadefang was nearby in case they had to fight whoever it was.

Shadefang looked into the water, really not feeling going in there, but she had to do it for Snailpaw. So she waded through the water and pulled herself up, resulting in half her pelt being soaked. But she ignored it to sniff around for Snailpaw, and soon caught her scent... mixed with something else. She followed it until they found a bush; behind it, an old white she-cat had Snailpaw pinned to the ground and was snarling in her face. But the apprentice was churning her hind legs furiously into the cat's belly, despite the claws in her shoulders.

"Get off of her!" Fawnstep snarled, daring to take a few steps towards the two. "If you hurt her you have to deal with us." She gestured with her tail to Shadefang. She made sure to lift her head up and make herself appear larger than she was, anything to try and intimidate the white cat. She was sure they could take her on if they needed to but she didn't want it to resort that, especially with how she had pinned down Snailpaw. Fawnstep fluffed up the little fur she had now, still making the vain attempt to seem larger but in reality she looked like a lanky soaked rat.

Shadefang's fur was bristled to make her look bigger than she already was, and she looked about ready to tackle the she-cat to the ground, no matter how she had Snailpaw pinned down. But before she could, the apprentice chomped down on the rogue's arm; not hard enough to bleed, but enough to get her attention. The strange cat yowled and scrambled away from Snailpaw, her eyes still bright with fury. Snailpaw pulled herself away to shake out her fur, breathing hard but practically unscathed.
The white she-cat growled at the FogClan warriors. "This little brat stole my prey!"
Snailpaw turned wildly to Fawnstep and Shadefang. "I did not!"

Fawnstep looked between the two, before fully making her way over to them. "Snailpaw, go to Shadefang right this instance." She commanded before turning to newcomer. "I don't know what happened, but you can't just go attacking apprentices like that!" She hissed. "Maybe you two were hunting the same prey, but that doesn't matter. Don't you have some twolegs to go back to?" She asked, trying to see any identifying kittypet marks on her.

Snailpaw lashed her tail at the old cat before scrambling to Shadefang's side. The large she-cat put her tail around the apprentice's body and glared at the rogue, her lips curled in the beginnings of a snarl.
The white cat let out a hiss. "She took the mouse I was already stalking!" she spat as she whipped around to face Fawnstep. "And I gotta take what I can get out here!" She knew it was warmer weather, and normally hunting wasn't such a problem, but her body would never move as fast as her brain told her to. At the mention of Twolegs, she rolled her eyes. "Never have, never will. Don't you, little miss kitty?" she added, eyeing the collar around Fawnstep's neck.

Fawnstep, for once, cursed the collar still hanging on her neck. She tried to keep her calm though, taking a deep breath and releasing it. "I am a former kittypet, I belong to Fogclan now." She tried to stop her tail from lashing but it automatically did it. "That doesn't matter, even if Snailpaw caught your prey, she was the one who killed it, correct? You're not a warrior or queen of our clan so we owe you nothing. Find more, there's plenty." She didn't take in the fact that this was a much older she-cat, she always saw it as you can hunt for yourself, have twolegs, or a clan to take care of you. She felt a bit of guilt when the thought did cross her mind and she turned to Snailpaw. "I'm right, there is plenty of prey. Snailpaw, did you eat the mouse or can we still give it to her? There's plenty of prey in camp now."

Snailpaw had been staring at the cat with huge eyes until Fawnstep's call distracted her, and she quickly got back to her feet. "No, I didn't eat it. It's still over there," she said, trying to keep her voice as brave as possible. But she still crept around the cat nervously as she went to retrieve the mouse she nearly died for. In her eyes, anyway.
The white cat watched the apprentice move toward the prey and her neck fur fluffed up again. "I don't need your charity!" she snapped, her tail flashing wildly now. Although, she couldn't ignore the pain gnawing at her sides. And the scent of the prey was almost mouth watering. When the apprentice dropped it at her paws and scurried to Fawnstep this time, she narrowed her eyes. "Take it back."
Shadefang finally had something to say. "We're not taking it back when you attacked our apprentice for it!" she said, taking a step toward the old she-cat. "Eat it."
The rogue growled, but she moved her head to sniff at the mouse.

Fawnstep watched her for a few moments before walking back to Shadefang and Snailpaw. She could see that the new cat was getting up in age, how hard was it to even that single mouse? Should we offer her to join our clan? I know she almost killed Snailpaw but if she stays out here there's a chance she could very well die.. She tried to catch Shadefang's eyes, hoping she'd know what to do in this difficult case.

The white she-cat finally bent down and started eating the mouse, without any sign of thankfulness. Shadefang could now see the rows of ribs along her side, and how her fur hung on her pelt. She caught Fawnstep's eye a moment, then sighed and turned to the old cat. "What's your name?" she asked after a pause.
The old cat's tail lashed, and she didn't answer for a few heartbeats. "Pearl."
Shadefang's expression didn't falter. "How well do you think you're going to survive out here much longer?"
Pearl looked up from the mouse to shoot a glare at the long-haired warrior. However, her mouth moved open and closed, unable to find an answer until finally she spat, "I'll be just fine if no more cats take my prey and leave me alone."

Fawnstep rolled her eyes "If you joined a clan you could easily just relax now, no offense but you look old enough to be an elder." She knew it might be hurtful to hear those words but she didn't care, Pearl was being unreasonable at this point. "If you really think you can survive out here on your own, fine. But if you change your mind our territory is just beyond this water. Wait there for a patrol and someone will bring you to Fogstar." Fawnstep was hoping she'd run into an actual good cat and not someone like Sprucemask or a former Cedarclan warrior from the quest who might not understand taking in new cats.
