Snaketooth's fur bristled when she said that, he wanted to ease her worries but he wasn't sure how. When Ashpelt began to talk his fur flattened slightly and he nodded in agreement. "We are safe, if he was after us he would have done it by now." Unless he's building up his clan right now, could he be? He tried to imagine what it'd look like with Ravenstrike up on top of their leader's speaking point, ordering cats around. Who's his deputy there? Surely it's a cat with senses right? He flashed Ashpelt a look, wondering if the deputy believed his own words.
{ I can create him ^^' If anyone who doesn't have a higher position up wants to create the deputy they can, or doesn't have a major role rn either or. I'm thinking they could run into the deputy at the border or something idk. I don't think I should make a whole fleshed out side clan for Ravenstrike's clan though since we are battling them eventually o_o}

(it'd probably be best to keep it so there's only a few pc cats in the old clan, like maybe just those who want to leave with the patrol or those who are otherwise important? it'll keep things easy and organized. i dig the idea of them running into a patrol led by the new deputy tho! )
Robinsong was noticeably relieved to hear Snaketooth and Ashpelt reaffirm their safety. Not that it'll help when we stroll right into their territory... She shook the thought from her head and tried to focus on the positive side: she was going on an adventure with Snaketooth! Her demeanor quickly shifted from tense to excited, and when she realized that the mountainside had given way to smooth grass, her enthusiasm only grew. "I'll get to see where you come from!" Robinsong mewed, looking towards Snaketooth with wide, intrigued eyes.
Ashpelt pushed through the undergrowth, trying desperately to focus on the task ahead. However, it was almost impossible with the endless questions in his mind. What will we find? Will we be able to check on the clan without being noticed? Is the clan being properly cared for? Are my littermates okay? His attention wavered as he thought of his siblings once more. Stormscreech and Dappleleaf. Ashpelt's brother and sister had been too afraid of the journey to leave the old clan. If they see that we're alright... As much as he wanted to believe that his family would return with him, he found it impossible. Stormscreech had been adamant that Ravenstrike was the true Starclan-chosen leader, and Dappleleaf would never leave their brother behind. With a dejected sigh, Ashpelt pushed the memories to the back of his mind and trudged through another thicket of ferns.

{ True true ^^ I only thought of the deputy because I thought it'd Ravenstrike's second hand man in the whole scheme of things, maybe a cat no one thought it would be? Ehhh But we can keep it a NPC : P But I know NPC wise, if we somehow have to interact with camp, which I can see happening to get the cats back, there is no medicine cat or anything just for a reference when they get there. }
Snaketooth purred at Robinsong "Yes, you will. You'll see where we all grew up!" He continued pushing onward, feeling a bit easier that he did have capable cats with him that would be willing to fight if the time came. He thought about if they would need to stay close to the territory for the night, would it be safe? Surely not. Maybe they could rest further out, he examined the surroundings for some cover for them on the trek back. "I think we are getting pretty close, the sun is going further down." He commented, noticing the trees in front of them were beginning to grow larger. He strained his ears to listen for the water they would have to cross but he couldn't hear it just yet, so they still had time. "Ashpelt, everyone, I think it might be best if we go at night for this. But what do you think?"

Ashpelt pushed through a heavy thicket, then paused. He looked up at the sky and suddenly realized how far they had walked. At the sound of Snaketooth's voice, the deputy looked over his shoulder at the patrol. "Yes, we'll go in at moonhigh. We'll use the water to mask our scents and the dark to sneak around without any cat seeing us." Ashpelt looked around at their surroundings, trying to gauge how far they were from the old clan's border. "We shouldn't be too far now. We'll go a bit further, then rest until night."
Robinsong could barely contain her excitement when she heard that they were close. She was extremely interested in seeing the territory Snaketooth and Ashpelt grew up in. Maybe it'll help me understand them better, she thought hopefully. As she considered it, her eyes wandered to the tom next to her once more. Full of energy, Robinsong grinned at Snaketooth. "Once we stop, we should hunt together."

Snaketooth flicked his tail on her shoulder "I don't know if we should.." He tried to sound like he was going to say something upsetting but he burst out laughing "Because I don't want to embarrass you when I return to camp with all the prey and your empty pawed" Of course he was just messing with her, but he did want to catch a lot of prey for them. "Do you think we could catch enough for everyone? Or should we take another warrior?" He wanted to be alone with Robinsong, but it also made him a tad nervous to think about, what would they talk about? Well they could talk about Cedarclan, or how they think the day is going in Fogclan.

"I'm sure we can do it on our own," Robinsong mewed. Under her breath, she mumbled, "As if you could out hunt me..." There was a hint of laughter in her voice. She knew for a fact that Snaketooth could catch more than her; she was better at fighting than hunting.
Ashpelt led the group a bit further before he slowed once more, ears pricked at the distant sound of running water. The river. If he had to guess, the river was a couple of tree lengths ahead. He raised his tail, signalling for the patrol to stop. He scanned the area until he noticed a thick bramble thicket. Ashpelt guided them towards the bush and pawed at it until an opening was created, making it a makeshift den. "We'll make camp here until moonhigh," he stated, then looked to Robinsong and Snaketooth. "Alright, lovebirds, if you're so confident in your hunting skills, you two can hunt for the rest of the patrol." Although his voice was stern, his whiskers twitched with amusement.

Snaketooth led Robinsong a bit further away from the group, opposite of the way they went "I don't want to risk going to close to Cedarclan's border." He mumbled apologetically, bringing himself to a stop now. Before they could talk anymore, the tom was off, tasting the air for any signs of prey he could catch for them. He could scent the faint trail of a mouse, but it was so stale he didn't bother pursuing it any further. Finally, he caught the strong whiff of a rabbit. He tried to spot it and when he did, it was munching on some grass not too far off. He crouched down and crept forward, paw step by paw step. I'm going to have to give it a bit of a chase if I want to catch it. He thought bitterly to himself, noting there was a lack of cover near the prey. He bunched together his muscles and took off in hot pursuit, clawing at it's hind legs as it tried to make a break for it. The rabbit rolled through the dirt and grass but ultimately got back up. He cursed himself and continued to run after it until he finally pounced on top, giving it a swift nip to the neck to kill it. It had kicked at him in the few short moments yet luckily it didn't break skin with it's back paws. He let out a sigh of relief and sat it down, trying to conceal it with what little supplies he had around him.

Robinsong waited for Snaketooth to make his catch before catching up with him. "Great catch!" As she approached, she instinctively gave his ear a lick, looking up at him with admiration. Realizing how forward she had been, Robinsong flinched and quickly looked away, feeling her ears grow hot. Luckily, as she turned her head, the scent of vole found her nose. Her ears pricked and she immediately pursued the smell. She spotted the little creature scampering towards the undergrowth, likely heading back to its den. Robinsong stalked after it as quickly and quietly as she could. Once she was a few tail lengths away, the vole stopped and turned around, meeting her eyes. Immediately, she ran towards it and pounced, just barely catching it between her paws. Robinsong struggled with the vole for a few moments before she finally managed to land a killing bite. It was a sloppy catch, but a catch nonetheless.

Snaketooth was stunned when she licked his ear, not moving for a moment before he finally came to his senses. "I..uh..uh.." She was already gone though to hunt something, he tried to focus on the catch but the way she looked at him and reacted was still burned into his memory. He scared off a bird that otherwise would have been an easy catch and he shot up, cursing to himself. He finally pushed the memory to the back of his mine and went off in pursuit of something else, hoping he could find something else for the cats waiting. I should ask her how she feels, right? I mean is this what I'm feeling? No. Don't be such a feather-brain Snaketooth! Remember what they said? A cat with your overbite could never have a mate. He sighed and crouched down, scenting a mouse. He quickly crept up on it and caught it, it wasn't a very large mouse but it would have to do. He dangled it from his mouth by it's tail and dropped it next to his rabbit when he back tracked.

Shadefang was quiet for the rest of the patrol, give or take a few grunts to show she was listening. She didn't have much to say, nor did she really want to speak up. She had no connection to CedarClan to talk about, and no one to gush over the whole time. When the patrol stopped by the makeshift den, Shadefang took a seat outside of it and started licking at her chest fur. There were so many more brambles to snag and catch her pelt on. As Robinsong and Snaketooth left to hunt, she let out a deep purr. "How much longer do you think it'll take?" she asked aloud when the two were out of earshot.
Snailpaw nodded with a challenging flash in her eye before she turned away. Once she got up the tree, she moved to where Brokennose stood beneath it. The she-cat squared herself up and jumped, paws outstretched toward her mentor and shoulders tight. She wasn't sure what he had planned, so she tried to be as defensive as possible.

(bro i feel that)
Robinsong returned to Snaketooth's side, vole dangling between her jaws. "This is probably enough for everyone in the patrol to share," she mumbled through the fat creature. She looked at the mouse Snaketooth caught and her eyes lit up. "Wow! You already caught two pieces of prey?" The she-cat laughed as she reflected on the squirrel she had scared off after catching her vole. "That's awesome! You ready to head back?"
Ashpelt hummed and looked towards Shadefang from where he was collecting moss a few tail lengths away. "The border is close-- two, maybe three tree lengths away. We're far enough away to avoid detection, though, so long as we don't make a fuss." He carried some moss and bracken to the bramble bush and began to form some nests for the other cats. Once they were set up, he stepped out and took a seat next to Shadefang. "Snaketooth and Robinsong should be back soon," Ashpelt mewed as he began to groom his bramble-ruffled fur. "After we eat, I'd like you to stand guard with me while the others rest. We shouldn't run into any trouble, but..."

Shadefang nodded. "Got it," she mewed as she moved to get some branches off her shoulders. Arguably they hadn't even gotten to the hardest part of their journey just yet. She groomed herself in silence a few moments longer, then twitched her whiskers in amusement. "Speaking of those two... it's hard to believe they haven't already gotten together," she said with a huff of laughter. She knew cats like to take their time, but they were flirting like there was no tomorrow.

Ashpelt smirked and nodded in agreement. "They both have their insecurities, but you're right. They've been like this since... well, practically since Robinsong joined the clan." He reflected on how quickly the two had bonded, probably because they had something in common; they were discouraged by others for things they couldn't control. For Snaketooth, it was his overbite, and for Robinsong, it was her heritage. "Maybe those two will finally talk about their feelings on this journey." Thinking about the two, he suddenly thought about his own love life. "You know, I haven't thought about finding a mate myself since we left Cedarclan," he commented. "I am starting to get a bit old..." Ashpelt had been so focused on Fogclan that the idea of finding someone completely slipped his mind.

Snaketooth tried to keep calm but he could feel his heart picking up speed at her praise. You're not an apprentice being praised by your mentor. straighten up! He shifted his paws and scooped up his mouse and rabbit, barely able to fit both in his mouth. "Youth noth Robith-" He stopped himself, he couldn't speak right now with these here. He internally groaned, for once he had the courage to say whatever he had been feeling but now it was impossible. He refused to drop the prey though to do it though, lying to himself that they needed to get back now. He began to make his way back to camp with, purring slightly. He saw a mixture of golden, gray, and white. It had to be the group, he picked up his speed now. He could feel his belly rumbling as he could make that individual shapes of his clanmates.

Robinsong hadn't heard his attempt at speaking, too focused on getting back to their clanmates to really pay attention. She approached the three other cats and set down her vole. "We figured it was enough to share," she mewed, flicking her tail towards Snaketooth's prey as well.
"Excellent work, you two," Ashpelt purred. Once all the prey was laid out before them, he pulled the mouse towards himself with his paw. "Shadefang, Waspwing, surely you two don't mind sharing?" He picked up Robinsong's vole and placed it near the two she-cats, giving them each a friendly smile. "Robinsong, Snaketooth, you two can share that rabbit." After sorting out the prey, Ashpelt settled near the den entrance and dug into the mouse, happy that his clanmates would have full bellies for the mission ahead.

"Maybe," Shadefang agreed, although with their insecurities like Ashpelt said, it probably wouldn't happen. At the mention of mates, she smirked. "Oh, it's never too late for that," she insisted, flicking her tail tip lightly. She didn't know much about mates and relationships, although she had gotten rather close to Fawnstep recently. But she knew that kind of stuff took its time, just like with Snaketooth and Robinsong. The big she-cat was thinking of how else to respond when her eyes caught two familiar shapes making their way toward the group. She eyed the vole placed in front of her and Waspwing readily, but wasn't sure whether she should take the first bite or not.

Snaketooth dropped his own prey down, hoping it was indeed enough for all of them. "Do you want to share the rabbit with me, Robinsong? That is unless you want to share it with someone else I mean." He quickly added in the last part and was painfully aware how awkward he was being around the other cats. He tried to act casual about everything and not like he was about to tell her his feelings when they were out hunting. He quickly scooted the rabbit towards her to try and ease the discomfort in his pelt. His stomach, of course, had to growl again at this time and his ears flattened as he gave a small chuckle.

"I wouldn't want to share it was any other cat," Robinsong purred, picking up the rabbit and guiding Snaketooth to a spot a few tail lengths from the others. He seemed a lot more nervous now that they were back with the group, so she made sure to find a place our of earshot for them to relax and eat. The she-cat curled up near some ferns and happily took the first bite of the rabbit, nudging it towards Snaketooth afterwards. Once the first bite was down, she looked up at him curiously. "Are you okay? You seem... bothered."
Ashpelt watched Snaketooth and Robinsong walk away, a twinkle in his eye. He shook his head and returned to the mouse in front of him, occasionally glancing up to check on Waspwing and Shadefang. As he ate, he tried to map out the old clan's territory in his head. It wasn't hard, considering the moons he spent patrolling and hunting there.

He wondered if he should tell her his feelings, or his worries about the clan they were approaching in on. To him, both seemed equally difficult to share especially at the thought of rejection. He felt like he could trust her though so he went with the latter option first or maybe even combine the two. "I don't know how safe we will be near Cedarclan." He muttered, glancing up at the deputy who was a bit away. He would have to keep himself quiet so no one could hear. "And I really don't want to risk losing you, or anyone, to them. I'm just kind of scared." He felt like maybe his words were enough to get the point across that he did, indeed, like her. Of course, they could easily be misinterpreted as being friendly and he mentally began to beat himself up.

(Oh dude same last couple of weeks and I've got exams and it's so exhausting, I feel you)
Waspwing glanced up at the sky, squinting into the gathering darkness. "Approaching after nightfall is a good idea," she commented, turning her unblinking yellow gaze on Ashpelt, "we don't know who these cats might be. For all we know, this Ravenstrike fellow could be worse than you think." She wasn't keen on the idea of having to wait around til then, considering they were close to the border already and their scents probably weren't very well disguised, but she wasn't about to disobey Ashpelt's orders - she was a Clan cat now, not a rogue. She noticed the vole in front of her and Shadefang for the first time with a small grunt of surprise, but quickly motioned for the larger she-cat to take the first bite; she wasn't terribly hungry, and wanted to be polite. "You're not that old, Ashpelt," she hummed, offering the deputy what she hoped was a reassuring grin but likely looked more like a grimace than anything, "you're still pretty cool." It had taken her this entire time to realise that she was the youngest member of this patrol by four entire moons, and now that she'd caught onto it she was overcome with self-consciousness - it was like being an apprentice all over again. She'd only been an apprentice for two moons in total, as she'd joined the Clan at thirteen moons of age, and it had been another two moons since she'd been named a warrior. There were other cats with more experience who could've been chosen for this patrol, yet she was the one asked to go, which gave her even more determination to prove herself capable.

Shadefang didn't hesitate to bite into the vole when Waspwing let her. As she ate, she couldn't help but keep her ears turned out for other cats outside their group. If there was any sort of noise nearby she'd glance in its direction. The fact that they were very close to CedarClan's borders was starting to set in, and it was putting her on edge. It already took her a few moons to get used to her own Clanmates when she joined FogClan, but now she had to be surrounded by plenty of different cats. She pushed the vole back to Waspwing and looked out into the forest.
Snailpaw kept that in mind as she headed back up the trees. She narrowed her eyes down at her target, then focused on the ground in front of him and sprang. She kept her paws stretched out, but she missed by a mouse length and planted right in front of her mentor, her paws barely brushing his whiskers.

"Oh, the young'un thinks I'm cool?" Ashpelt laughed, grinning in Waspwing's direction. He rolled onto his side dramatically, letting out a low groan. "When I'm in the elders' den, will you take the time to bring cool ol' Ashpelt some prey?" With a laugh, he sat up again and returned to eating his mouse, finishing it with a huff. He stretched and stood, shaking some dirt from his pelt before positioning himself near the entrance of the makeshift den. "As soon as you're done eating, Waspwing, get some rest. There are some nests inside," he mewed.
Robinsong's gaze softened and she pressed her flank to Snaketooth's. She had been worried about the safety of Fogclan since finding out they were so close to the old clan, but she hadn't considered the danger the patrol was in. A feeling of dread spread through her at the thought of something happening to Snaketooth. "I don't want anything to happen to you either," she mewed softly, her voice laced with concern. Robinsong could feel her pelt growing hot with embarrassment as she considered her next words, but she mustered up all her courage and continued. "I-I care about you... a lot..." She averted her gaze, clearly embarrassed to put her feelings into words.

Did she mean as friends or? He tried to not overthink what she said but he couldn't help himself. He gently put his paw over hers though and gave her one of his toothy grins, trying to ease the dread that was now clear on her face. "I'll be safe, don't worry. I know this land pretty well, I hid a lot as a kit from grumpy old Ashpelt and the rest of the clan, to be quite honest I think he was the one who found me most of the times when I sneaked out of camp." He gave her a gentle lick on the cheek and stretched out his paws before him, trying to get the shaking feeling off of himself. {Sorry I've been planting stuff, I'll try to be on tomorrow but it's iffy bc I'm aging up tomorrow }
