So who do yall think the StarClan cat in the prologue was. I think Ashfur I personally hope the StarClan cat in the prologue was Ashfur or Flametail, Flametail mainly because he could be rather interesting to be tied to the plot...
I have a feeling that this StarClan cat is also the "apparition" mentioned in The Silent Thaw's blurb.

I am SO sad Leafpool is dead... but, anyways, before I cry... I think this arc starts off to a good star, getting straight to the problem!

God, looking at the ThC allegiances, I couldn't help picking out cats I would have killed off between arcs... lol maybe the purge we need will happen in this arc. So many cats in ThC's elders' den now! Thornclaw should be with them, though I wouldn't have minded if Birchfall, Whitewing, etc. and other cats from the second arc were there, too, tbh. Ramble, 'cause y'all know ya girl doesn't know when to stop:For the first time in a long while (I think since midway through PO3?), I'm sympathetic with Jayfeather's short temper. I understand that he and Leafpool sometimes didn't get along, but their relationship in AVOS was pretty solid, and they worked together for a very long time. It must hurt so much to lose her I may have not been her biggest fan, but it's so odd to imagine ThC without her now. His answer to Alderheart about it still being different, even though he'll get to see Leafpool more often than normal cats do with their deceased relatives, was sad. You know, guys...I can't believe I'm saying this, since I've been one of the people most wary of Shadowpaw and prepared to dislike him, but I actually like him! Or may be on my way there, I guess? His personality seems sweet (@ the erins: pls dont make me regret saying that and he turns out to be awful, and makes terrible decisions). Not only is he eager to be a medicine cat, but he enjoys his work, and his excitement for his duties is refreshing for a medicine cat after the last two arcs. I think what also makes me like Shadowpaw is he has so many of the same feelings as me with his disability. He has the thoughts of wanting to be normal, and how even though he knows they mean well, he dislikes his parents' fussing and how they treat him like a kit -- especially considering they don't do the same for his littermates, who are full warriors and his same age. I've talked about my own health problems here a couple times, and my disabilities are invisible, too, so my issues are closer to Shadowpaw's seizures than Jayfeather's blindness, Brightheart's eye loss, Briarlight's paralysis, and Alderheart's anxiety...the latter of which seemed to disappear after, like, the first two books lol I related to Jayfeather at the beginning, but now that spot is taken by Shadowpaw (plus, as y'all know, Jayfeather irks me and I've long since disliked him). I see a lot of my own disability in him and it's kinda nice, tbh. I still hate his name though :'D Maybe that'll be my biggest nitpick. And hopefully he won't be like Alderheart's POV was when we got about halfway into AVOS and become sorta bland while not doing much. Everyone's already talked about the allegiances, but put my vote with a BreezeHeather kit as WiC's next medicine cat. I'd like to also add my voice to feeling bad for Sparkpelt...but it's been a while since we had a (sorta?) main character as a single mother, if ever, since I don't really count Bluestar. That's pretty interesting. As for Rootpaw, I'm disappointed he's not a she-cat, but maybe it won't be all bad. Not sure how I feel about his sister, Needlepaw, but I'm definitely curious about her personality, which faintly reminds me of Sparkpelt when she was younger. It's kinda cute, though, that Needlepaw is black-and-white like her mother, while having Needletail's name. I don't know why, but I kinda like that. Well, here's to hoping that Rootpaw and Needlepaw aren't gong to be just repeats of Alderheart and Sparkpelt, but with the change of Rootpaw as a warrior with his sister. I'd like for them to have distinct personalities. And I feel little bad for Rootpaw being embarrassed over his father. I can't recall if we've had a POV with that family setting, except maybe Thunder in DOTC and a little of Lionblaze and Jayfeather with Crowfeather? Hmm. Makes me wonder if, as someone else commented, there'll be family disagreement there, with Tree having expectations of one of his kits to be a mediator, similar to Sandgorse and Tallstar with tunneling. Or maybe Tree will be an emotionally absent father like Crowfeather was to Breezepelt, but with Tree being closed off for different reasons than Crowfeather's. With Bellaleaf's dislike and Wrenkit's fear of Tree, I wonder how many other SkC cats have had/are going to have similar interactions, and then reactions to him. All in all, so far so good with this, if you ask me! I know I've been a bit of a downer of the possibilities that might crop up, but I'm enjoying this so far, and eager to read the book.

Frecklewish's comment about younger warriors joking about becoming kittypets got my attention. Foreshadowing perhaps?

Cherrytail and Cloudmist STILL aren't in the allegiances? Sigh. How hard is it to include them after the fans have been yelling at you for years...

I know I missed the entire topic and I haven’t even read the preview yet but I gotta throw in my two cents on Leafpool.
Let me start this off by saying I have never liked Leafpool. But now I feel the same sense of loss most of the others have been feeling. She’s been in the ranks for so many books I guess she was, like, attached to ThunderClan.
Now I feel bad for listing her as one of the cats who should have been in the TC purge for the next book.

Honestly we better get a scene of Crowfeather, Breezepelt, Jayfeather and Lionblaze interacting after Leafpool's death or I'm going to be pissed. They're all family, and I would like to see them come together at least once and be civil with one another for her sake. I would love to see Breezepelt being a decent character and apologizing/comforting his brothers just once. I swear if he's a little asshole about this I'll jump into Warriors and kill him myself

Idk if it just hasn't hit me or something out of shock, but I'm not feeling anything about Leafpool dying. I feel a bit since I can see that Jayfeather's sad, but idk it's just weird. But then again it's only been one or two chapters really- maybe it'll sink in deeper into the book but I just don't feel anything. Which is funny cause she was actually one of my favorite characters. Eh, it'll probably just sink in later- I guess I'm also just stubbornly refusing to see her as really gone until I see her die myself- I've been that way with most characters that die off-screen, if I don't see them die in my head they just disappear into nowhere unless I see them in StarClan- then it'll hit me. Idk. That's just me tho.
I'm sad Millie's gone. She was an interesting personality. I almost wonder if Briarlight dying did her in. She died not long after she did.
As for the new povs, pretty neutral at the moment since it's only been one or two chapters. I'll wait a bit.
Overall interesting start and I'm looking forward to more.

Frikin love this preview. Awwwww!!!! Rootpaw is so adorable! I'm really sad for Leafpool though, wonder how Crow, Lion and Squirrel will react.
Love Shadowpaw as well. Though I was hoping for Pounceneedle and Lighttuft. Well guess they'll just be for my Lost stars AU PMV :I

Two more new quotes! Thoughts? "Is it true? Has StarClan forsaken us?"
I feel like a medicine cat will say that Starclan has foresaken them, and for some reason I'm thinking it's Jayfeather. I also feel like it's a female cat who asks this, maybe a queen (or former queen) but I'm unsure.
and
"The Clans have a code for a reason. It’s supposed to be followed."
This sounds like it's coming from a leader or a senior warrior to a younger cat, maybe an apprentice. Or, it could be a cat saying this to Tree, someone who doesn't seem to care much about the code.

Wow, I can't believe they actually killed Leafpool off. And offscreen too. Wasn't she a favorite of Kate's/Cherith's? I'm shocked...

I wonder if Flamekit has some red on him and that's why he has that name despite having a black pelt.

Looking at the names of Featherpelt's kits, I wonder if she really likes music. "Whistle" and "Song" make me think of that. Whistlekit, Songkit and Flutterkit have super cute and adorable names. And I'm glad they listed her mate right there. I know people shipped her with Hootwhisker, but since I headcanoned her and Hootwhisker as littermates, this works out for me just fine.

And here I thought I was going to like Kitepaw and Turtlepaw. Hopefully they'll mature with age, because I'm already annoyed with them. Either way, poor Rootpaw. And it appears as though Needlepaw is the more sensible of the two. Ironic, considering her namesake, but I like it!

I think this arc will be the three "weirdos" hanging out together to solve the problems.
Rootpaw has gone to a place where have herbs and Shadowpaw mentioned that he wanted to look for some in the previous chapter, my bet is that Bristlefrost will save him and Shadowpaw will do the first aid.

Poor Rootpaw! He can't help it as to who his father is. Kitepaw and Turtlepaw are just bullies, constantly mocking and teasing him. And I'm glad that Needlepaw has some sense as to not listen to them. And Tree's ability isn't something everyone can do anyways. It's a special gift that you need to be born with.
And then Rootpaw falls into the frozen lake because of these two apprentices. I hope they at least have the decency to help.

It seems like Rootpaw will be a mix of Alderpaw and Lionpaw: anxious, but at times reckless, with a little bit of Bramblestar thrown in there as well since he wants to escape his father's shadow. Either way, it seems like he'll be an interesting character. Now I wonder what Bristlepaw is like.

Rootpaw and Needlepaw remind me a lot of Alderpaw and Sparkpaw...one is bad at being a warrior and the other gets it right away. I hope Root isn't forced to be a med cat or anything. And dang I was wanting to like Kitepaw and Turtlepaw but I really don't :/ they're just big ol bullies

I'm calling it now, Rootpaw and Turtlepaw eventually become friends and they fall in love. Or he gets into a forbidden relationship with Bristlepaw. Or both, because I wouldn't put it past the Erins/editors to do something like this.
But seriously, the former I'd tolerate if Turtlepaw goes through an attitude change first, but please no more forbidden romances!

But seriously, the former I'd tolerate if Turtlepaw goes through an attitude change first, but please no more forbidden romances! I can tooooootally see this happening. Here's what I predict:
Turtlepaw and Kitepaw get in trouble for provoking Rootpaw to run into the lake; Turtlepaw feels guilt while Kitepaw gets a bit more upset that he got in trouble. Turtlepaw helps to nurse Rootpaw back to health in that she visits him, plays with him, etc; bc let's be real, in the worth Leafbare they've experienced he's going to need someone to keep him warm.
Turtlepaw will probably train with him, get closer with him, he'll remain oblivious while also developing feelings for her too. Needlepaw will probably find out and will tell him to tell Turtlepaw, they won't communicate, but eventually they're reveal their feelings for each other. The end.

one thing that interests me is that this is the first time ever (since the OS) that we don't have sibling protags. We had squirrel/leaf (w/ bramble), holly/jay/lion, jay/lion + ivy/dove, clear sky/gray wing (w/ thunder), and twig/violet (w/ alder). I'm really curious to see what these guys' relationships will be like, and how they interact, etc.
My first thought was that Rootpaw would end up with Wrenkit rather than Turtlepaw, but I could see either happening ig. I could also see Root/Bristle happening which.... ugh. I mean, if they use their relationship as a way to get rid of that "no forbidden relationships" code, then I guess it could work? I mean that's like, priority #1 when it comes to revamping the warrior code, so in theory someone has to do something to challenge it... I'm not too keen on the idea tho.
I like that Rootpaw is very impulsive and quick to anger, but I was slightly annoyed to see him failing at being a warrior so badly. This is kind of just a repeat of Alder, except instead of being forced into a medicine cat role he's forced into a mediator role. It wouldn't be so bad if he could be a warrior and a mediator, but if he just sits around and does nothing like Tree i will be pretty disappointed.
