I'm sure many of us can agree that Lionblaze had a pretty underwhelming arc in OotS, especially see since it seemed to be mostly focused on his relationship with Cinderheart. So, how would you have written him in OotS, if he had to have a PoV at all?

He was basically male Dovewing, just less annoying but still annoying.

I'd slap OCD onto him.
Lionblaze starts having sudden, horrific, and very in-depth thoughts and images of harming or killing the cats around him: very much like in PO3, but this time it's constant. In particular he has images of killing Cinderheart, and starts avoiding her as a result. In the end he actually runs away from the Clan and becomes a loner as a way of protecting those around him.
Cinderheart finds him, lesson is learnt that you can't control the things you think about (the same way Cinderheart having knowledge of medicine cat skills does not make her a medicine cat), it is your actions that make you who you are, not the thoughts you can't control.
I could have really used a character like that when I was younger.

I think Lionblaze's arc in OOTS was largely impacted by them not knowing how to use his powers, and no taking the time to figure it out before they actually wrote the series. So in OOTS they kind of shirked away from having him use them, and since without them he's just another warrior there was nothing else for them to do besides focus on the ridiculous Cinderheart plot (I didn't like that she was reincarnated). I would re-write it so that perhaps we see him training more with his fellow warriors or give him a scene where he attempts to infiltrate the Dark Forest to save someone and has to fight his way out, something that makes him feel useful.

How in the world are they alike at all, apart from having a crappy love triangle? > Both have forbidden romances no one asked for. > Both were manipulative to those close to them at one point or another. > Both could have been spies for the Dark Forest and weren't. > Both kept hidden information they should have told others. > Both were ultimately useless to the narrative in the later arc. > Both had horribly written romances that made them boring or unbearable. > Both were gross hypocrites with clan loyalty issues. Like mentor like apprentice, I guess. The only difference is that Lionblaze actually remained loyal to his clan in the end, unlike Dovewing who took her stupidity to a whole new level.

Well, you win this one.

He was always my least favorite out of Leafpool’s children. If I was given a choice to spend a day with Star Flower or Lionblaze, I would choose Star Flower in a heartbeat, we could talk fashion or something. And as gladetail pointed out, he had gruesome images and thoughts of killing cats he knows, like Heathertail and Cinderheart. Ehhhhh I don’t think you want someone like that as a POV character.

maybe i just really like gentle giant medcat lionblazeNah man I getcha too. Like, just imagine this BIG cat with his BIG ASS PAWS that could LITERALLY DECK YOU... in the medicine den, sorting herbs, healing other cats, being a big soft helpful fluffball and loving doing that instead of being a Warrior where he risks using his powers if it means he can do something he wanted and NOT kill cats like some killing machine in a fight. Quite a fun contrast I'll admit. lol

Honestly I would've written him to originally want to be a warrior, but then after the visions of him killing Heathertail and latter on the death of Russetfur, he wants to become a medicine cat so he can't hurt any other cat again.
That or he would want to become a medicine cat so he can protect others without harm.
(There's a reason why I like making Lionblaze into the medicine cat in most of my POT AU fics)
