Do you think that the series has a pattern of people not really enjoying the last book or two before the 6th book (or even the 6th book as well)? Or do you feel the opposite? I don’t know if everyone prefers the first couple books of a series over the last couple, but I seem to see it a lot, and I tend to feel that way.
Of course there could be other explanations like people tending to be more patient with the series in the first couple books but becoming more critical as it comes to a close, but I feel like for the most part a lot of people just don’t seem to enjoy the last book or last couple books before the final one of the series.
What do you guys think?

Pass the tomatoes because I’m about to get salty:
I think the Erins have issues planning out an arc when they first start writing one. The first three books will be good, and the last three end up dragging.
The arcs that suffered the most from this are The New Prophecy, Dawn of the Clans to an extent, and especially A Vision of Shadows. Power of Three, even though I like it, also took a hit because of poor planning. (Hey Erins, if you actually made a series outline, Hollyleaf could have been part of the prophecy. Instead, she got shoved aside for Dovewing.)

I thought the first arc did okay with that, but after that...

I noticed this as well, even though I really liked DotC and AVoS. The first half had a clear plot, but especially in the second half of AVoS, it seemed like the Erins didn't know what to do now that Darktail had been defeated besides SkyClan settling in. I kind of liked RoF, but even I admit that it really was just doing alot of waiting until Tigerheart came back, and TRS was just a disaster. DotC had villains in the second half, but One Eye was killed after one book and Slash was a pretty weak antagonist.
The opposite is true for me when it comes to TNP, where I was bored with the first half and somewhat enjoyed the second half. I didn't care for TPB and OotS, and I enjoyed all the books in PoT.
Hopefully TBC does better.

One thing: Villain died too soon.
Which in this case would be Darktail and One Eye.

The main problem is a lack of planning, but this mostly happens in TNP, POT, OOTS, and AVOS. (I only read two books of DOTC, so I can't comment on that.) No planning, then there's bound to be horrible writing.
There's also a problem with character development. We have too many cardboard characters, it's crazy.

Honestly the Erins should stop forcing themselves to make every arc six books. They had planned to make TNP only three but extended it, and now they are stuck with it because tradition. But it was the original series that felt designed for six books, most of the arcs after the original would have worked better as four.
