Big baddies such as Tigerstar, Thistleclaw, Scourge, Brokenstar, Mapleshade, Hawkfrost, Ravenwing, Darktail, etc.
Who would you pick to get a redemption ark and why?
Just trying to spark a discussion.

Probably Tigerstar for me. Have him be something like a shell-shocked veteran, and Firestar helps him get back to his paws while Tigerstar learns to appreciate Firestar for who he is while becoming good.

I always felt a little bad for Darktail, so it would be him. I would say Thistleclaw since I felt bad for Whitestorm, but that whole mess with Spottedleaf dumped any sympathy I had for him down the drain.

Hmmm. Either Hawkfrost or Scourge honestly. I would have liked to see Hawkfrost walk down the path of darkness, only for Bramble, Tawny and Moth to show him the way of good. The four face off with Tigerstar and protect eachother. Hawkfrost goes on to work hard and later becomes Mistystar’s deputy or something.
As for Scourge, him redeeming himself by losing to Firestar and almost being killed, only for Firestar to spare him and the clans to chase away Boneclan. Scourge is saved by Thunderclan’s medicine cat, Cinderpelt, and later learns that Bluestar, the cat who prevented Tigerstar from killing him, once led this clan and that both Tigerstar and Thistleclaw are dead and gone of course. He is cold at first, but he soon realizes who Firestar is, and slowly bonds with the only brother who actually would care about him. He does not regret killing Tigerstar nor leading his Bloodclan cats, but he seems like a cat of repaying debts, so he pays Thunderclan back from not only sparing him but also for Bluestar’s actions and memory. He later dies helping Firestar and probably doesn’t go anywhere or becomes a wandering spirit. I don’t see him believing in Starclan lol

I like Thistleclaw but he doesn't need redemption in any sense besides the afterlife. I like the idea of him at some point casting off the chains of the Dark Forest and finally stepping into the light once more quite a bit but I'm not sure if that really counts as a redemption arc, tbh.
Scourge having a redemption arc I would absolutely adore. I concur with the idea of him surviving the battle on a thread and having his life spared, at which point I do think that he could learn to be better. He might realize that he didn't have to be so cold, so abusive all his life. That he could have turned out like Firestar instead of himself.

Mapleshade or Thistleclaw
I would have loved Snowfur confronting him in the final battle, and her getting through to him. I don't think he ever learned to truly love again after her death, and that's what made him worse and worse.
Mapleshade could also have been redeemed through something with her kits. They were her one real weakness.

Hawkfrost in the Dark Forest after he finds out Tigerstar used him and finally realized how he needed to forge his own path. And when he realizes that Tigerstar loved Bramblestar more.

Hawkfrost. I feel like he could have chosen his own path instead on taking on his father’s anger.

Mapleshade maybe, she could have moved on and had a life with Myler, it's a nice thought. But I still like her as a villain too. On the other hand I think Hawkfrost or Thistleclaw would be my other choices.

It wouldn't redeem Thistleclaw but make him more understanding, and maybe spur on debates. I'd have it that Thistle loved Snow, properly.
I'd want his story to parallel Blue's story of grief. Both will experience losses (Sweetpaw and Snowfur for Thistle and Everyone for Blue). At first Blue would be jealous of Thistle because he is close to Snow and then his natural fighting talent and brazenness gets him noticed. It's only after Snowfur dies that Thistle would feel he would have nothing to live for, except to protect Thunderclan to ensure his son's safety, except he would take any measure to ensure this happens. That's why he would push Tigerpaw as much as he would and be so aggressive about borders. The reason Bluefur would see him slip into his dark moments was because seeing Blue brought up memories of Snow and Thistle's grief. Blue would then rightfully become suspicious as she does in the books, but no one but Goosefeather would believe her because she was so openly jealous of him. I'd erase how he slandered Snowfur and Whitekit in the DF but potential harm the DF cat for that. Blue could have been overwhelmed by grief and gone down this route, but didn't she pulled herself through it. Sunstar sees Thistle is still not handling Snow's death and is closer to Blue since being her mentor so she is picked as Deputy.
Also no SpottedThistle. That was stupid. Or if you needed to show how bad Thistle was, have him manipulate more than one apprentice into being better apprentices or even lie and say with their fighting skills they would become warriors quicker (not through dangling love and grooming them?). Heck Thistle could stare a war with Riverclan over sunningrocks which scares or pushes some of the apprentices to train in the DF (just lie about what it is, like what was done to Crooked and Ivy). This and how Mapleshade manipulated Crooked could be how the idea of doing this on a larger scale in OOTS comes about.
As a note I would have had Bluefur train Tigerpaw? So his betrayal was more of a shock in TPB, and Tiger having fallen to the dark side due to his ambition, drive to prove he isnt like his father, and possibly Thistle undermining Blue in the DF or Mapleshade recruiting him because he is Oakstar's grandson and must pay.
Would this redeem him? Nah but he would be more than some power hungry jerk like most of the other villains. Or maybe it would redeem him from the trash he became in Spottedleaf's Heart. Would it be another sympathetic villain? At first, before he takes things too far. The idea is up for tweeking, it's just something I thought of when I read the title of the thread.
