this was a thing i saw long ago on the old forums, and i'm not sure who started it. however, i just saw a thread (created by moonmasksunfrost, go check it out!) that jogged my memory, and thought it would be interesting to do one of my own! i'm currently focused on characters listed only, so please stick to the ones i have written down. once i get further in my re-reading, i will add more characters to the list.
if you're not sure how this works: i list characters that i love, like, am neutral on, dislike, and hate. your job is to try to change my mind! there's really no reward (sorry), but a lot of praise, seeing as i can be stubborn. disclaimer: i tend to type a lot about a character unless i really have nothing to say.

hmm, well, i don't really remember much from his book (Crookedstar's Promise). i have read it, and can look up some important plot points if you bring them up.
from the first series, he just generally irritates me sometimes. for example, he makes the decision to allow Brokenstar to fish from the river without consulting his Clan or deputy. he plans on hunting in WindClan territory after WindClan was driven out, which is disrespectful to WindClan and supportive of Brokenstar. in addition, he doesn't want WindClan to come back at all - which goes against the fundamental ideas of the Warrior Code. these are a few examples of why i dislike him.
now, he does redeem himself. he allows ThunderClan to stay on RiverClan territory during the fire. ultimately, he shows Firestar (then Fireheart) and ThunderClan great sympathy during the whole fire incident. and, in contradiction with the whole WindClan thing, Crookedstar is just doing what he thinks is best for his Clan, which isn't an excuse, but is understandable.
these points combine just give me a fairly neutral stance on him in general.

May I ask why you dislike Silverstream? I've never had a particularly strong opinion on her myself; I believe on my thread I did put her in the neutral category.

moonmasksunfrost this is just based off of the first series, when she was alive. i know she makes some appearances as a StarClan cat, but i'm disregarding that here. honestly, her blatant disrespect for the Warrior Code was just irritating, and her arguments and conversations with Firestar (or Fireheart at the time) were weak and unconvincing. there's not much to her character other than "pretty", "kind-hearted", and "in love with Graystripe", and i don't really like the way the Erins went about that particular forbidden love instance, so that only adds to my dislike. it's not going to be hard to bump her up to "neutral", because i don't have strong feelings of dislike, but Siverstream is just a bland character whose only purpose was to be a love interest to Graystripe (and i'm not a huge fan of him, either), and i just... don't like that.
Frozen about Brackenfur - how can you not love him? i liked him a ton as Brackenpaw; his steady, eager to learn personality made me favor him over his sister, and his patience with Graystripe when he was never training him because he was out with Silverstream only added to my adoration. he does what he's told, he follows the Warrior Code, he stands up for Firestar, but is level-headed and logical, he's a good friend and father... i just don't understand how someone can not like him? he's defiantly one of my favorite cats in the whole series, and is way under appreciated, in my opinion.
about Whitethroat - this one might be easy to convince me about, honestly. i was just... irritated with his character when he joined Tigerstar (then Tigerclaw) and his gang of rogues. honestly, i feel bad for the poor thing, being too afraid to go back to ShadowClan. but that doesn't excuse him from joining what is basically a cult to destroy the Clans - in particular, ThunderClan - when he quite literally owed his life to ThunderClan. Cinderpelt cured him of his sickness, so he is only alive because of her, and Firestar (then Fireheart), Tigerstar's biggest rival, was the only one who knew, and allowed them to stay until they were strong enough to travel without giving them away. ultimately, he's ungrateful and cowardly... but that doesn't mean i don't feel bad for him.

I just don't like Brackenfur because he's boring IMO. Yeah, he did all that awesome stuff, but I don't see anything memoriable about him at all. It kind of annoys me when people call him underrated, because literally everyone I've met loves him to death. Underrated in the books? Sure. But underrated in the fanbase? Heck no. I don't see the appeal, that's all. Other kindhearted characters like Crookedstar and Thrushpelt are more interesting in my eyes.
And I was mostly curious about Whitethroat, and I don't remember much about him, so I can't really change your mind XD

Frozen i meant underrated in the books, and under developed. personally, i've never found him "boring". i don't think a character needs to have drama to be a good character (such as Crookedstar and Thrushpelt, though i do love Thrushpelt as well). Brackenfur is almost a model warrior, and yet he still isn't quite perfect, which gives him a good dynamic. i found him very memorable, personally.
and about Whitethroat - no worries, someone else will probably want to see it eventually. thanks for asking!

i was trying to stick mainly to first arc cats, because i just re-read the arc and it's fresh in my mind. however, i just finished up Moonrise, and i can give you an honest, heartfelt "like" bordering on "love" for Feathertail. the only reason i wouldn't put her in the "love" category is because she seems to have lacked depth - i wish we would've gotten more from her perspective before she died.
