Since there's a topic about her spying...
Do you think she was important to the story at all? I've always believed that the books try to make it seem like she did many helpful things, when she really didn't do much related to her spying at all. If she was taken out, would she have made a difference to the story at all? I've always felt she was just a pair of eyes for the DF, tbh.

I do think she held importance. Both she and Dovewing. She served as a more rough and tough character who was not special in the ways the Three were. She served her purpose for me incredibly well in that she was easy to relate to, in many many ways. It’s a big reason of why I enjoy her character. If we take her out, all we’re stuck with is the exact same shpeal of POT, three special cats who hide the prophecy.
I loved the DF scenes with Ivypool. I loved how she had to kill Antpelt, how she was made to fight and had to decide where her priorities lie. I love her development and her overcoming her envy. I love how she rallied the trainees and snapped sense into them, and honestly I loved how she was in AVOS. Compared to Lionblaze and Jayfeather, Dovewing and Ivypool were way more tolerable and entertaining in OOTS. I think both served their purposes and allowed for two relatable chatacters, especially with those who were forced to grow up quickly, Dovewing with the prophecy and Ivypool backed into a corner and having to kill another cat and fight cats from hell.

I think that the main point is... who was important in OotS?
Every PoV did nothing in OotS, it was a band of cats running around in circles while the story was running in the background with a useless prophecy around. Heck even the 11th hour uniting Starclan of Jayfeather was him being a medicine cat and because of that allowed to visit the afterlife and it can be argued that Mothwing and Flametail did half of his work in there.
But yeah, Ivypool in the big scheme was not important to the story, you could switch her with any DF trainer and have the same result.
Actually thinking well you could switch Lionblaze chapters with Purdy telling stories in the elders den and would have the same result too.

it's honestly hilarious to me how Dovewing rendered Ivypool completely and totally useless in a single sentence by hearing through to the dark forest herself

She really is her sister's shadow.
