Aww thanks! Lol I would love to see some desert pirates. Would they have some sort of giant ATV-like ship?
Mutants/Monsters would be great too. Like government experiments escaped and destroyed the world. They could be mindless or like semi-intelligent with a vendetta against people.

Ok so we got a good idea on setting and what we want.
Now we need to build the place and the roles. Once I'm done being distracted -cough-KingdomHearts3-cough- I'll grab some roles. Hon, how many people do we want as main characters? 5? 6? 8? 9? Name your price.

hmmmm i think 6 or 7 is a good number. and once the main roles are filled up we can add in as many side characters as we want. now we have to decide what these roles will be!

So I'm switching focus to something else and getting information down.
When you associate anything swith New York City it is visually the extraordinary buildings--standing tall and proud shining like enormous jewels--or the congested sidewalks with people desperate to shop in the famous stores in which celebrities dwell. The voices of the never-ending attractions call out and envelop you in awe and spell-binding seduction. The streets are filled with an atmosphere that is mystical towards the average human eye.

Urban magic rp. With a possible magic gang. I'm not sure. I'm trying to figure out the plot. I thought gang war but that may be too big for a small forum we have now with rpers.

Oooooooh. I got a plot idea for this. Ok but Urban Magic is all good. Cause we can have a bunch of fun things (go on Tumblr or Pinterest and look up the urban magic or modern magic posts and basically that). But what about the ancient magic like back to the roots coven magic that relied on demons and such. So basically maybe there is an ancient cult gathering power in New York City and the witches and warlocks feel the darkening aura in the air and dark things begin to stir.
And then somehow a certain group of characters get involved. I havent thought that far.

What are the physical rules for this magic? Who can perform it and how?
Magic generally inhabits people with a lineage to the first magic users granted the dark gifts from Satan and Hell itself back in the Dark Ages and forwarding through history. Nowadays, the dark covens are lost and magic is solely a inherited trait from magic user to magic user. Magic users marriage generally grants another magic user; magic user and a human can grant in a magic user being born. Sometimes a demon will offer magic to a human (whether the human summoned them or the demon saw strong potential in them); however, it's extremely rare nowadays for a demon to give the gift of magic. It is much darker magic in nature. It is extremely rare and very near impossible for two humans to give birth to a magic user.
As for the physical rules; magic users can comparably learn any magic. However, it takes a lot of learning and age to master the many arts. Several lifetimes in fact. It drains to learn more than one focus of magic, and even takes more energy to switch into completely opposite magic spectrum (i.e. fire to water; necromancy to healing). Really the only people who learn than one study of magic are older masters (and they only know three maybe at most and they are similar magics) or those affected by the dark arts and granted the gift by demons and the devil.
However, there are basic magic. The middle of the web; where most mundane spells and little quirks start. Like able to summon objects, little charms and vocal spells that all witches and warlocks learn in the beginning of their training.
What are the legal laws of this magic, if any? Who governs this, if possible?
Long ago in history, witches and warlocks were in covens. Each coven governed their own set of rules based on the demon(s) who granted their gift and the laws Satan placed at the time. Rules such as, what kind of magic each coven can practice, what and when to sacrifice, marriage, cullings, etc. These laws have since been abandoned; though a few simple rules remain in place. Such as don't reveal magic to humans, especially in extravagant ways and large population. Little magic always naturally happens to magic users, which humans always see as a sleight of hand or trick of the mind. This is the biggest rule, laid down by the devil himself in the Dark Ages. Mothers and fathers always tell stories that Satan himself will appear anyone who reveals magic to humans. Another rule is that dark magic is illegal. These magic includes necromancy, voodoo, summoning and enslaving demons, immortality, major curses and hexes and potions that have since become dark and included blood of a woman and bone of a man.
Nobody has governed magic since the fall of the last dark coven. However, three older masters monitor the world through magic. These masters are the last of dark users, able to manipulate more than one magic and having immortality. It's rare for a magic user to foster a visit of a master; they believe in letting the world grow and fall on their own. While they agree the dark arts shouldn't return to the world, when the dark sense begins building over New York City. They merely send a warning, warning that if their population doesn't stop it, the whole world may fall to it.
However, some magic users have taken to gang lifestyle. While adhering to the main rules of magic, they also take on the human gang rules with their territory and claiming it as their own with their own turf rules. Witches and Warlocks do not have to be part of the gang to live on gang turf; but they must follow the rules of the gang that are set. These can be simple rules such as 'don't tell any humans or live with a human' to complicated 'don't interact with the other gang or go near this area while living under our protection'. Living on gang turf is like being protected and governed without affiliation in New York.
How is magic viewed in this world?
To humans, it's myth and legend. This takes place in 2019 New York City; humans see magic like me and you, as fun and something of fantastical value.
Magic users see it as a necessary tool for living. They acquire a skill, a career, using an ability they were born with. Magic users base their whole lives on the one magic they thrive on. If a magic user doesn't utilise their magic, it's possible for them to become weaker when they need the strength or even near losing the ability.
Does magic have a source or does it come from within?
It depends on the user. Some witches and warlocks can use their magic without the need for a source, these are true masters in their arts; others prefer it as a grounding point for their magic, particularly those who regularly balance their basic skills and their arts on a daily basis. Sources can be anything; a wand, a pocket watch, a bracelet, a ring. As for how it's performed, its a combination of many things: the most basic magic is verbal/nonverbal spells, rhymes, and strong-willed sentences. Hand gestures are mostly involved in skills, but verbal and nonverbal magic can be a starting point. Mostly in magic, to think is to do; some form of thought has to be involved in using magic. You have to think the fire will turn blue to make it turn blue; it may not do it at first, but practice, will, and maybe spells and casting will help.

Oh yeah. I'm keeping the main idea with smaller group and roles. But I'm building a magic world based around it.

ENCHANTING- - - NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORKThe year is 2019. Summer was finally coming to New York City. The dreary cityscape was recovering its color, and a buzz of energy had been building up since spring. New York City in the beginning days of summer had always been the kind of beautiful backdrop that inspired songs, poetry—works of art that still did no justice to its sunny brilliance. The light that bathed the city in muggy warmth also brought into sharp focus the rich hues of towering skyscrapers and situated precisely where they were meant to be. The pavement was shaded by the shadows of the pillars above, beckoning tourists and locals to walk the twisting paths and chat with people as they passed.
Underneath the shadows and within the crowds of people was something far more magical; a whole society of people living under the shades of the tallest buildings. Who make pencils out of wands, who get in back alley fights using spells and enchantments, who charm guys harassing girls at the bars into having blue skin for the next week, who keep cats and dogs in their pet-free apartments by transfiguring them whenever the landlord steps in, who do street performances for money and wink at the little kids when a spark of magic reveals itself. Who exchange secret smiles when they pass each other; knowing each other exist, but the humans do not.
New York City is a bustling place; full of color and life that could only be described as enchanting.- - -
