the magician & the devil watch for manipulation and misuse of power. To be done: layout of other posts: rules, members, plot, characters, faction descriptions, faction members, faction territory, credit if you want to make/own the Ver Tahesh or another faction hit me up! The factions are mafia-like organizations with a hierarchy that starts with the boss, or leader, or King/Queen depending on which group you go to, and ends with a large following that will use their magic to aid their faction. Of this nature, they generally charge businesses in their territories for "protection", they remember who, under their rule, oppose them, and they will use various means to get what they want. Many Dark Arts users find a home in the factions, because they aren't constantly suspected of evil there. Granted, once in a faction, the evil is guaranteed--at least in action. Many members of the groups don't necessarily want or care about their leader's goal, but see it as a good pay opportunity or a good chance to not get killed; depending on where they stand on the ladder. And, being a roleplay with drama, that of course means that there are members who have joined to secretly get revenge, or to get revenge on another faction. There are countless reasons why one might join, but there aren't a lot of ways to get out after that.
ex: The Fourniers dabble in many art forms, priding themselves in professional business. They specialize in money laundering, counterfeiting (money, consumer goods), assassinations, gambling, extortion, bribery, grand larceny (jewels, art), and loansharking. They are identified rather easily because they all dress well, even the low ranking members. They have an image to uphold. High ranking members wear signature white suits that warn you of their presence. A requirement of membership is professionalism--you must not be angered easily, you must be calm and calculated, both in mannerisms and appearance. Anything less will not go unpunished. While the Fourniers have the use of firearms, they prefer knives and poison magicks since guns are "sloppy and lazy". When someone comes up dead because their throat was slit or they were poisoned, everyone knows the culprit. That is not to say they are adverse to torture. They will use more barbaric weaponry as a punishment or as a means of getting information. This is not a new development; the Fourniers are family business and the current Owners are twins Adrien and Émilien. They are identical twins and continue the legacy of their family line. Although you might become a Fournier by name, you must be one of blood to take Ownership under the long standing rule. This organization is run like a business and they own many of the corporations in Vadejira. This is why they get away with so much. They do not interact that much with the working class, who are not valuable to them. Yes, they strong-arm local shops and maintain their territory, but they don't go around threatening the people for no good reason. Again, they are not a street gang, they are professionals. The Fourniers have pull in the government and the police--though that isn't to say other factions cannot bribe anyone. The Fourniers use enough blackmail to get what they want./i]
if youre interested, describe your faction with what they mainly do, how they handle things, how they get recruits, what they prefer, what they target, etc. Ver Tahesh was the main importer of Angel Ash (drug) in vadejira, Fourniers have a hand in it but also do crime deals (assassinations, territory gain, high profile business deals)
hi! i have all the info and stuff all organized with some layout here (for mobile uses, the "here" is a link but the format and coding wont show up good on phone and will not show up at all on tapatalk) in public drafts. below are some quick points if you dont want to read all that! i would love help if anyone wants, even layout tips, or if you just want to say this looks cool or you would like to join, then please come in! I Love Validation this will not open until may/after semester ends i will be having a surgery after the semester ends but that really shouldnt impact my ability to be on my computer
here are a few points: - at least like. 2 Good paragraphs (good writing, grammar, punctuation, goes sorta in depth you know--) but not advanced, i really dont want like 47 paragraphs because too often one character will be continuing to do things without a chance for other characters to join or intervene (if anyone wants to tell me what level of writing that it is it would be much appreciated) - if you want to lead/write a faction, just ask! it will require work and good rp skills tho, keep in mind
- everyone is human - everyone is a magic user - everyone has one domain, like one element, or one form of healing, or alchemical arts, etc - there is a magical hierarchy - not all magic created equal - all powers have caveats--a buff and a nerf. if you will - there are jobs that go along with someone's domain, like book or item enchanting, or apothecaries - there are crime jobs that have certain domain uses - there are MANY regular jobs, as it is a modern society. you might be an accountant with cool number magic, or you might be an accountant with fire skills and a purchased enchanted finance book - all magic users have the risk of being charmed by a demon - Demons are not characters to be roleplayed, but if someone wants their character to be enticed by a demon, it must be discussed with creator - evil humans exist whether or not they are being enticed - Demons do not give humans extra powers, but they push for chaos and will persuade users, preying on their insecurities, to do things they normally wouldn't - someone may or may not be aware that they are being whispered to by a Demon, and may or may not be able to fight it off
Three factions are: - Ver Tahesh (unclaimed) - Fourniers - unclaimed

i was also thinking about magic users that each have a domain over certain types of spells, where some would have more physical spells and some magic users have more mundane uses, like enchanting books or potion making--things that can only be done by certain domains so no one person is necessarily all powerful, however this leads to like. people who have Bad Domains like necromancy or people who find out they can summon hellish creatures

By the sounds of it, there's room for a lot of possibilities. If you are considering demons, I can see false promises whispering into the ears of those with negative impacting domains. Greed, and power the most cliche at the top, but maybe for a few others , brining back to life someone they lost due to terminal illness or someone who's life was wrongly taken.
In other instances, maybe someone with a negative domain will start recruiting demons, spawns or other creatures from the underworld, however they need hosts in the human world. So the one summoning these creatures works to create an army out of human despair , or tricking people into giving up their humanity?
Or maybe some demon, ghost, vampire has resurected from an unnamed past tragedy. Since all the people from that time are technically gone, no one assumed the resurrection of said individual so no one formed a contingency plan to counter this. Therefore it's up to modern day people to join up to stop the evil. At the same time said resurected individual is also collecting a modern day army. But he's technically ahead in terms of organizing since they don't make a physical appearance until they've gathered some people.
Just a few ideas to throw on the table

oh dude hell yeah
i was thinking, for instance, like in dragon age, mages can be tempted by demons so like only magic users of certsin domains, of dark arts, can be tainted--which is why they are feared

of course demons from the seven deadly sins are excellent too, preying on dark domain users insecurities

So a little bit ago I decided to watch the various incarnations of Saint Seiya, since Netflix is producing a new take on the show. Basically in every incarnation, or "almost every" excluding Seiya Omega; basically has the Resurrection of Hades which prompts the holy war. (Kinda like Fate), except the conditions for a reincarnated Hades really jerk the audience. Hades can only be resurrected by the purest soul. In otherwords, the most "heavily" and/or "most humble" soul is destined to become the most tainted, disciple, monster. [king of the underworld.]
Which when I stepped back to rewatch/reread other shows involving demons, monsters and ghosts; usually the character involved has some of the following traits.
- Abused Past - Poverty - Bullied - Introvert - greed - ambition - apathy
It's common traits meaning that the more, "lost" you are, the more easily it is to misguide you. Furthermore easier to manipulate and a quick source of power, since some beings rely on negativity for power. On the other hand, to try and consider "someone good" being swayed in the wrong direction, that could leave more room for the dramatic climax reveal, or the "OH SHOOT, we worked with you from the start and you did this."
In the original Saint Sieya from the 90's, Hades's vessel for that war was Shun, a warrior of the light. Literally someone who was at Athena's right hand. So when we get to the climax, gather everyone, and basically have everyone cornered. Shun goes from "Don't give up." to ballistic laughing, and "I win." mentality.
Kingdom Hearts is another game where one of the heroes is basically tainted with darkness. [Kingdom Hearts Union, Mobile game.] They are still releasing story content to the mobile game that is supposed to go hand in hand with KH4 , but so far what we know is that one of the five Union Leaders isn't who they say they are. Issue is that we don't know who it is, still don't and speculation doesn't help.
Fire Emblem Warriors, a neighboring prince was mentoring the "main characters" of the main story campaign. He gets captured , and is like absent for over 60% of the remaining game. Finally he reuinites, helps and at the climax; "SURPRISE" he used everyone to gather the essentials for a dragon awakening ritual. [cause it wouldn't be FE without dragons]
But yea, there's a lot of possibilities to take it.

of course, but i also want to focus on the backbone of the rp, the logistics of it, etc
i mean, i definitely think there should already be turmoil in the world before the main plot comes in. things starting out all nice is Boring

I think everyone is a magic user, but I don't know we should make like. demons a playable race, you know? or maybe not in the beginning, or only the 7 sins and, what about magical offspring? but I'd rather, him
I don't want to make demons a desired race ro claim, and I want issues to be by humans so demons would just be non material, whisperings in someone's mind, maybe, so the human causes the damage doesn't give them more powers though

I entirely understand, if demons are set on the shelf, everyone's gonna reach for them. It's a desirable class, i'm not gonna lie. Heck on Fire Emblem Heroes, I've got my demon units too and if I can play them I will cause why not!
But anyways About a year or two back I had a role-play with some friends we were basically finishing a plot from the previous forums. But we also had magical beings, different races, turmoil etc. How we controlled the demons was kinda similar to how a role-play creator lets people add another slot to a character or promotes them to "a rp mod" or anything like that.
In this case, because some of the people had like 3+ years role-playing, we let them have a demon , or a ghost. But it also had to match the story, so if it was needed for the story the next person in line aka the person who has been here the longest, gets that role.
It worked out because we had an awesome person keeping tabs of all of our members. But that's just one of many ways to keep tabs.
I'm thinking that another alternative could be to only allow the Role-play creator to role-play the demons that physically appear or are relevant to the story. That the role-play creator can lend someone a demon to role-play for a certain amount of time, for story relevance so that the fight scenes, or conversations go further then "I'm talking to myself."
On the other hand there could be a requiremnet. I'm in another role-play where we can only have three characters. You have to wait a week before replacing one of your three, but if they have been in role-play for more then a month you need to kill them off. Taking this into consideration, there could be a character limit.
- One human - One non human - One corrupted and/or distraught character [in other words a future candidate]
When the story reaches relevance that corrupted character can either be recruited or keep going in the story until it is there turn? This way they can obtain new powers through a contract and the role-play creator can "remove" said contract at any time.
I can see a character who had the contract revoked going into a state of disary doing things to other characters because of the desperation. It leaves the role-player the option to conform to what happened, or to try and do everything in their power to convince their contractee to get them on board permentalty.
Suggestions, but yea some to throw on the table. I do agree though, starting with things too nice* is too cliche

maybe the main plot could be some magic users in some form of a cultish setting working on something Big and Evil, but after time when other characters do something that throws them off, they use a trump card or their last resort i want it to drag on, not a one and done sort of thing, you know
i dont really like character limits considering how many people actually rp advanced here nowadays, so we will probably keep it as humans and if you want you character to be persuaded into evil, talk to me about what the plan is and i can let that person control the demon voice of course, you also have humans who are of the evil category already, so they will add their own spice now the question is--what is the specific cultish/demon thing going on, whats the character, the motivation in this case i would need someone willing to be that character ya know hmmm

so some points id make are: - everyone is human - everyone is a magic user - everyone has one domain, like one element, or one form of healing, or alchemical arts, etc - there are jobs that go along with someone's domain, like book or item enchanting, or apothecaries - there are crime jobs that have certain domain uses - there are MANY regular jobs, as it is a modern society. you might be an accountant with cool number magic, or you might be an accountant with fire skills and a purchased enchanted finance book - domains under Dark Arts like necromancy or summoning, chaos magic, they are looked down upon as these users, other than having, well, Dark Arts, can interact with Demons - powerlisting.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Form_of_magic- Demons are not characters to be roleplayed, but if a Dark Arts user wants their character to be enticed by a demon, it must be discussed with creator - evil humans are allowed - Demons do not give humans extra powers, but they push for chaos and will persuade users, preying on their insecurities, to do things they normally wouldn't

Ooooo interesting points. I am getting some kamisama vibes , while reading these points. it makes demons sound like mentors, which is like teachers of the past , whispering into the present.
As for the cutish character as a trump card , I can't help but think blazblue. Specifically Hazuma who works for the imperial army as a captain, working over the years to gather every pawn needed for his* plan. Then like after the second game "surprise" he's evil.
Hahaha, glad to see that ideas are forming!

Vadejira is a city of danger. Drugs, deals, all forms of organized crime--these aren't just underground anymore. The police have been pushed back and bribed to the point that the original legislature barely stands; even if it did, there's certainly no one enforcing it. Three factions currently control the city, much evolved from the small street and Angel Ash gangs they began as. Each of them own districts and enough mages for an army, but they constantly compete for territory. The people of Vadejira have accepted the new form of "government" considering landlord protection of businesses and how, even with their magic, they would not win a fight. Faction wars are just that-- wars. Those who have pledged their lives to their sect will die if necessary, and casualties are unavoidable. And now, the head of Ver Tahesh--clan responsible for the majority of Angel Ash trafficking in Vadejira--has been found dead. With most substance abuse in the city caused directly by Riven Shah and considering the money pulled in from the trade, it's easy to imagine just how many people might want him six feet under. But that only makes it harder to find out who did the damage that has currently plunged Ver Tahesh and parts of Vadejira into chaos. The other two factions now fight for Ver Tahesh's territory while they scramble for a new leader, and the Angel Ash lines are being bought. There are more sect members crossing territory to find out more, and the streets should not be walked at night. Within this discord, one can only wonder--what was the goal, what motivation could have brought this?

vadejira--
Not just a city of danger, however, Vadejira sits in a world in which everyone is a magic user. Everyone is born with an ability pertaining to one domain--say, Elemental Fire, Invocation, many different forms of emotional Manipulation, Blood magic, Enchantment--and each person has both a boon and bane to their power. Some domains are considered Dark Arts magic, harvoring evil or only used for evil, and such are looked down upon. Some Dark Arts users might hide their power or attempt to use it in a way that might conceal its true nature. Some domains could be relatively neutral, like Claricognizance, but they can also be used for malice. Mentality based and ESP based domains are often mistrusted because of this--as one can expect when someone's magic could allow them to dig into your memories.
Having magical abilities is certainly fun, but there must always be fault. All magic users are suspectible to Demon Whispers. The Demons, generally under the Seven Sins (Wrath, Pride, Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Envy, Sloth), are beings that seek to create chaos in the material world through humans. Demon Whispers are like voices in your head, though it is hard to distinguish if that voice is yours or not. Some people may be able to realize they are being Whispered to, some may not. Some people may be okay with the Whisperings.
While there are definitely jobs that require certain magicks or at least prefer them, this is a regular modern world that, other than some magically-created technological advancements, needs regular maintenance--even mundane careers. Of course, there are positions that would not exist in a non-magic world: apothecaries have magical items and ingredients, some of which--like Angel Ash--are highly regulated and need a prescription. Someone working at an apothecary needs knowledge of many magical substences, so they don't necessarily need a certain domain to be run. Enchantment shops, however--like for books, items, weapons--need powerful spellcasters that can weave intricate spells into objects like coding. There is a difference between an Elemental spellcaster, someone who can summon and control something like water, and an Enchanting spellcaster. Without the help of talented Enchanters, things would certainly fall into disarray. That means Enchanters are in high demand and receive good pay.
As previously stated, Vadejira is a city of danger.
And of course, being a city of crime, there are definitely more chances for criminal activity outside of the factions. One does not necessarily need to be aligned in Vadejira, though it is harder to run alone. Servicing a faction might make you a target. The police are not a large problem, but, like the 1920's LAPD, they are certainly crooked. Squads who have been bribed or blackmailed by a faction therefore work under that leader and can be persuaded to jail you at their leader's behest.
