Silverpaw didn't answer, she was getting more and more wary of Ambershade. Black blood running down Ambershade's muzzle? Gloomy, dark and murky place which Ambershade confirmed as not Starclan? Crooning and alluring voice pleading me to tell more? Silverpaw shrugged off the feeling of dread, No way, Ambershade treated me well! She taught me how to fight properly so I could be better than Lilystream! She thought.

Firescorch blinked open his eyes and sat up, looking around himself in confusion. He very clearly remembered falling asleep in his new nest in the warriors den, but that certainly wasn’t were he was now. He narrowed his eyes as he scanned the dark clearing he was in and stood up cautiously. This had to be a dream, there was no way he could have been moved without his knowledge or waking up. Blackbird was seated between two trees, her fur so dark that it was blacker than even the Dark Forest sky. Her eyes flashed as she noticed Firescorch appear. She rasped. “I see you’ve finally started to see sense, seeing as you’ve willed your way here. Hello, Firescorch.” She greeted. (wait, I thought Dawnclaw was going to train him? ^.^’) Firescorch stiffened at Blackbird’s voice and he turned to look at her, a scowl forming on his face, “well, it isn’t too difficult to figure out where exactly I am, but who are you?” He said with a low growl, his fur bristling. There was no doubt about it, this was the Dark Forest. The same exact place that Lightningstar and Peachdapple had come to warn his clan about.

I’ve been dead long before you were ever born, but I was a Skyclan Warrior, just like you.” Blackbird explained, glancing over as another cat slunk through the darkness. Dawnclaw grinned brightly. “A new guest! How exciting. You know, it gets awfully boring around here without new faces to greet. New Skyclan faces, even more so. I’m Dawnclaw. I’m a little offended that your Clanmates probably don’t talk about me!” He pouted. “Blackbird’s right though. There’s got to be a reason you’ve willed yourself here, Firescorch. After all, this is where the wronged go to see their grievances answered!”

Firescorch eyed the two warriors warily but he couldn’t help the sense of uncertainty that he felt as they spoke. Did he really will himself here? Why would he want to come here? It didn’t make any sense to him. “Perhaps they don’t talk about you because of what you did to get here.” He finally said, looking at Dawnclaw as he approached. There was something familiar about the tom, but he couldn’t quite figure it out.

Who punishes you for having Thunderclan in your blood?” Dawnclaw inspected his claws with a knowing smirk, looking at Firescorch with a shrug. “In fact, I heard one of our own just got banished for following his heart. Is whatever I’ve done really all that different than what “good” cats have done?” He slipped closer to Firescorch, eyes soft with a mockery of care. “And, well. I’m so happy to see one of my beloved nieces and nephews. Look at how big you are. I can tell, your mother’s never talked about me, huh?”

Firescorch blinked in surprise, was Dawnclaw his uncle? “My mother…? But she said she was the only kit in her litter. She doesn’t have any siblings.” He said. What Dawnclaw was saying was starting to make sense though. How many times has he had to endure the looks from his own clanmates because of who his father was?

What Dawnclaw was saying was starting to make sense though. How many times has he had to endure the looks from his own clanmates because of who his father was? “Silly! She is the only kit in her litter. You are aware that Queens can have more than one litter, right? Well, I was in the first litter. With my dear brother, of course.” Dawnclaw pouted, before his eyes flashed darkly. “I expected my dear old father to never mention me again. And yet, I was a dutiful son. Goes to show you, cats can always let you down, if you let them.”

“Then why didn’t Lichengaze say anything about you?” Firescorch questioned. Why would his grandfather never tell him about Spotteddawn’s older brothers? Did his mother even know about them?

“Then why didn’t Lichengaze say anything about you?” Firescorch questioned. Why would his grandfather never tell him about Spotteddawn’s older brothers? Did his mother even know about them? “Because he’s ashamed.” Dawnclaw crooned, eyes flashing dangerously as he mewed. “Lichengaze hides so many secrets right under your noses. You all think he may be honorable, but he’s got more blood on his paws than you think. After all…” Dashclaw lifted his paw again casually. “Where do you think my brother and I learned all our allegiances from? Certainly not just our dear mother. Quite amazing, how he has managed to hide how he supported Adderclan’s creation so deeply.”

Marshpaw came suddenly awake, this time hardly even batting an eye as he came to. He’d fallen asleep with irritation in his heart, thinking about his envy of Sheeppaw, an apprentice who not only had out-fished him, but had also been trusted by the new medicine cat. Sure, his swimming had improved since Brinetail had last taught him, but he wanted more than that. He wanted to be Riverclan’s best apprentice, and he wanted it to be clear. Temporary fire stoking his heart, he quickly got up and went in pursuit of the cat he’d met previously. Moonblazer

Brinetail was currently speaking with Puddlepaw, who had just finished another bout of training with Lotusbloom. Now, he was looking up at his grandfather with a hint of delight. So far, he had begun training with Nightflame again, even if only a little bit. Combined with Lotusbloom's teachings, he was getting twice the experience as his clanmates. It made him feel special, to be wanted like this. "Thank you, so much. Really, you both have made everything better. I'll have to be a Warrior on time, and then after that, the best Riverclan Warrior I can be." Puddlepaw promised, only to stiffly whip his head around as he heard a rustle. The sight of Marshpaw made him freeze, eyes unblinking. "Marshpaw. My dear friend!" Brinetail mewed, casual and smooth, as he turned his gaze to the younger apprentice. Bright and blue, his eyes gleamed as he purred. "I was hoping to see you again soon." "I..." Puddlepaw stammered, before his eyes grew guarded. He greeted Marshpaw with a stiff nod. What in Starclan was Marshpaw doing here? Was he learning from Brinetail? Was that why Puddlepaw saw his grandmother far more than he saw his grandfather?

Marshpaw halted at the sight of Puddlepaw speaking with Brinetail. Nervousness came over him as he tried to judge the other apprentice’s reaction. Playing it cool, he bobbed his head to both him and Brinetail. “I hope I’m not… interrupting.” He said, with more confidence than he thought he’d be able to muster. He’d seen Puddlepaw sleeping in the den before falling asleep himself, but had never expected to share dreams with him. “I’m glad to see you again, Brinetail. I wasn’t sure this would work.” Marshpaw glanced between Puddlepaw and Brinetail. “So… you also train here? You know each other?”

“…He’s my grandfather.” Puddlepaw answered tersely after a long moment, before he forced himself to relax. He wasn’t doing anything wrong. Marshpaw was here now too, so if he tried to tell anyone, Puddlepaw would tell right back on him. He shook the petty thought away, having no reason to have conflict with Marshpaw. If anything, he was kind of relieved to see more cats wanting to train here. “I’m just getting some help from them to make up for the training I had to miss this last moon.”
“Have more faith in me.” Brinetail humored, the large blue tom looking at Marshpaw with a grin. “Puddlepaw is indeed my grandson. My mate, the one primarily training him, is his grandmother. Marshpaw here is motivated just like you, Puddlepaw. So, I wanted to help him like we helped you.”
“Makes sense.” Puddlepaw nodded, eyes flashing to the younger apprentice. “It’s a good place to really master training you can’t get done just during the day, you know?”

Marshpaw hadn’t been entirely sure that this place was real, and a little shiver went down his spine as he started to understand that this cat was real… and this wasn’t Starclan. He swallowed. Even if that was the case, Puddlepaw seemed comfortable, and Brinetail was only trying to help him learn. Marshpaw justified it to himself and said casually, “I can’t wait to see what you’ve learned. Maybe we could train together sometime. But, I imagine if you’ve been training here a while, I might be pretty far behind at this rate. Brinetail’s a good teacher. I bet your grandmother is too.”

He teased, though he did have a serious tone to his lofty offer.

He nodded. “There’s a lot of work to do before that could happen,” he replied, serious but not unkind. He thought of how reliable and even graceful Diamondheart was, and found it hard to compare to his mental picture of himself. He was clumsy, could hardly hunt, and had only become better at swimming because of Brinetail. Fighting was all he had any hope at, and even then he tended to lose his balance.

It makes you way stronger though, in the water back in Riverclan." Puddlepaw mewed with a hint of humor to Marshpaw, looking down at the younger apprentice. He waded through the water until it lapped over his shoulders. "Watch. Brinetail moves in this water like a fish." He breathed with a hint of praise and awe as he looked at his grandfather. Brinetail smirked, before he chuckled. "I've been here a long time. I'm used to it. As for what you'll be learning tonight, I'm going to show you a diving ambush. Using the water to hide in wait for an enemy patrol is good for when you want to fight for Sunningrocks, yes?"

Marshpaw’s eyes lit up in excitement. He knew how much the elders liked enjoying their time on Sunningrocks and wanted to have a good strategy for defending it. “I never want to let Thunderclan take it again,” he affirmed. The idea of diving and staying under the water was a little nerve-wracking, but Puddlepaw and Brinetail were both right there if anything went wrong. He hunkered a little lower in the water, letting it slide over his back in anticipation.

"Kinda feels like mud, right? It makes you way stronger though, in the water back in Riverclan." Puddlepaw mewed with a hint of humor to Marshpaw, looking down at the younger apprentice. He waded through the water until it lapped over his shoulders. "Watch. Brinetail moves in this water like a fish." He breathed with a hint of praise and awe as he looked at his grandfather. Brinetail smirked, before he chuckled. "I've been here a long time. I'm used to it. As for what you'll be learning tonight, I'm going to show you a diving ambush. Using the water to hide in wait for an enemy patrol is good for when you want to fight for Sunningrocks, yes?" ”Even just swimming in this once makes me feel so much stronger in the water back home,” he agreed. "Riverclan cats must be more than just cats who swim. We must be able to use the water to our advantage, at all times. Blend in with it, move with it." Brinetail mewed, slowly slinking under the inky water until he was submerged. Puddlepaw looked around quickly for his grandfather, unable to see even a single ripple or bubble to indicate where he was swimming. All of a sudden, Puddlepaw gasped as his tail was caught in a grasp of teeth, and he was yanked down into the water. Scrabbling at the murky sludge, he tried to get his bearings. He fought fiercely, only being freed when Brinetail felt like letting go. Resurfacing with a cough and a gasp of air, Puddlepaw blinked owlishly as he felt the sting of the new wound on his tail. For a moment, he felt a bit of shock at the roughness of it, but he sharply reminded himself that using claws and getting wounds here was normal, and made training have more stakes. Now, he was just impressed by how well Brinetail could move in the water. Brinetail lifted up from the water, now in-between Marshpaw and Puddlepaw as he crooned. "Nothing to it, hm? You didn't see me moving at all, did you? Yet I knew exactly where your tails, your paws, everything was."
