Warblerpaw hummed in thought for a moment.
More kin, huh? He thought. He blinked at Robinstar before leveling his green gaze with the trees behind her, their surfaces rough and dark.
"I'm curious," he admitted. "What is it like, here? If this is where cats go to be punished after death, how can you seem so at ease?"

Just that?” Robinstar mused, looking both humored and saddened. She shook her head lightly. “It is a place where cats who have committed grave deeds go, yes. But, it is also a place where cats who do not hold faith in Starclan can find refuge. Some cats have been wronged by their ancestors, and would not wish to go. So, they find refuge here. The world is not so simple as good and evil, my dear. Rather… there is losing your way, and finding your way.” Robinstar flicked an ear towards the thick and blackened forest behind her. “The end destination may be different for everyone. I still wish to find my way, to Starclan. Or, at least, as close as I can get.” She feigned a fond look at Warblerpaw.

At first he'd been frightened, but now he could pick out small details he hadn't before, like the slight glow of the moss and the mushrooms, and the earthy scent of leaf mold. "I guess it's not so bad here, then." He flicked his tail back and forth, stirring some leaf litter as he did. "How do you know what... way you're supposed to go?" he asked, a little shyly. He loved his parents and his Clan, but he never felt he could really speak his mind with them. He knew what they'd say: You're fine as you are, Warblerpaw! Just because you're Spiritstar's son doesn't mean you have to prove something! Just do your best, Warblerpaw! They all meant well, but they didn't get it. But he felt like Robinstar could, so he found himself lowering his defenses without meaning to.

A path that you define. No matter what you face, you will take your path.” Robinstar offered.

Warblerpaw cocked his head, some of his usual arrogance returning, though more subdued. "I just wanna be the best," he said. "But not because of where I came from. I wanna be the best because I'm me."

Warblerpaw cocked his head, some of his usual arrogance returning, though more subdued. "I just wanna be the best," he said. "But not because of where I came from. I wanna be the best because I'm me." “A noble goal. Self-identity.” Robinstar mused. She padded towards her nephew, brushing her tail fondly across his shoulder and smiling down at him. “What does “best” mean to you? Leadership? A dedicated senior Warrior? A father? You sound determined, just as my mate did.” She asked, sounding wistful.

Warblerpaw thought a moment. He wanted to be a good warrior, someone his Clan could rely on to bring them prey and win their battles. He also wanted to help Robinstar to atone for her past deeds, to show his mother that her sister wasn't completely lost. He wanted to be brave enough to live however he wanted without worrying about anyone else's opinions. He set his jaw, leveling his gaze with Robinstar's, his blazing green eyes meeting hers.
"I want to be strong," he said firmly.

What do you feel is the best use of that strength, Warblerpaw?” She asked. Oh, this was all too easy!

"To live my life how I want!" he said with conviction. "I want to be strong enough to fight for my Clan and to scare off anyone who wants to threaten us, strong so that I can do what I want, whenever I want, and no one can tell me otherwise."
He drew himself up straighter; he was nearly full-grown, a large and formidable cat on the cusp of receiving his warrior name.
"Any stupid expectations anyone has of me," he said, narrowing his eyes. "I'll crush them."
Warblerpaw knew he didn't make much sense, but he couldn't seem to wrap his tongue around the words he wanted to say. In the waking world, he never faltered or stuttered; his words were like honey and his wit was sharp. But here, in the shadows and under his aunt's icy glare, he could feel a million emotions rising to the surface after being held at bay for so long, the dam finally crumbling under the stress of seeing his own mother die.
"I'll be so strong that Spiritstar isn't ever hurt again."

“Now that is conviction.” Robinstar purred her approval, seeming to be responsive to his last words most of all. Oh, if only the tom knew just how hard he would have to try to never see his mother hurt again. It was poetic, really, knowing she would end her sister’s life, and fuel Warblerpaw’s fire all while being the one to start it in the first place. And when he was no longer expendable either? She sneered at the thought.
“I’m proud of how far you’re coming all on your own. I hope you know this, even if you can’t see me in the waking world.”

"I-" Warblerpaw was taken aback for a moment. To hear such a powerful cat praise him? He couldn't help but to preen a little. "Thank you, Robinstar."
After a pause, he continued. "You were strong when you were alive. Now, too, I'm sure." His brow knitted with guilt at his next words. "Plumwillow is an incredible mentor, really. But she's just about taught me everything she knows, yet I feel like I could do more," he said. "Will...will you help me get stronger?"

"Will...will you help me get stronger?" “I did many things to gain that kind of reputation… but unlike you, I hadn’t yet truly known my way back then. My strength now will be put towards regaining my family.” Robinstar promised, relishing the young tom’s thirst for praise. She hummed. “Plumwillow. I’ve only seen her through fleeting sights. She must be a younger one, but perhaps that’s good for you. More relatable. But! Nobody can teach you like your aunt can.” She humored, offering her training to the tom on a silver paw.

Warblerpaw chuckled a little, dipping his head. "I'd be grateful for whatever you can teach me," he purred. "Plumwillow is great! She's kind and a good warrior, but she isn't incredibly serious, which I like. We get along really well! I'm excited to be a warrior, but I'll miss her."

You want a bit more than what you can be offered. I understand. As grand as a mentor can be, most have no choice but to teach at a more gentle level, compared to what you can learn here.” Robinstar nodded, before she fretted. “Though, I do warn you, the skills I know are very advanced. You may be expected to handle hard blows, and respond with attacks you may not be used to. Do you think you can manage that?”

Warriors with attitudes like yours are always the most successful, in my experience.” Robinstar crooned, wanting to inflate the young tom’s ego as much as she could, and spin his mind.

Warblerpaw grunted his assent, his tail flicking slowly back and forth. "No worries there..." he grumbled. "I don't think they'd get it, either. Probably would see past who I'm working with to see what I'm working towards."
He paused and ducked his head sheepishly, but only for a moment. "Er, no offense."

"Of course. I'll be right here, again." Robinstar nodded, her voice soft with promise and a feigned pride that she had used on all the young members of Adderclan, all the apprentices desperate to please her and her mate. She sat down across from him, tail waving slowly in good-bye.

As soon as the younger tom disappeared, Robinstar's gentleness faded right back into a cold and calculating gaze. She turned, padding back through the forest as she awaited her next visit. Within a matter of minutes, the visage of her daughter appeared, and Jaguar greeted her mother with a low dip of her head. Lifting back up, Jaguar mewed.
"Nightshade and Hemlock are old enough now to hunt and fight for themselves. We've been scouting around Twolegplace, and it just might fall in our favor."
"Meaning?" Robinstar mused, padding along with her daughter now dutifully at her side. The dark furred she-cat mewed smoothly. "The Twolegplace cats are catching more wind of the Clans. They either despise them, or they want nothing more than to benefit from the Clan territories. If Fluffcloud and Eelshock are to serve as the new vessels for Adderclan's return, then they're going to need numbers. If they eventually get to attempt to overthrow the Clans, then I say that they find some new allies in cats outside the Clans. An even larger Adderclan, than the one before." She offered.
Robinstar digested the words, before she mused. "We'll bring it to your father, and see what he can do with Riverclan's proximity to Twolegplace."
"There's more." Jaguar sneered. "Thunderclan and Skyclan are sending joined patrols to Twolegplace to catch prey. What they are unaware of is that the twolegs have been setting up traps to feed the prey animals poison. When they bring that prey to their camps, they might very well just start picking themselves off."
Robinstar stopped at this, a gleeful and evil grin poking slowly from her muzzle. "Prey that your dear aunt is probably eating plenty of now as she recovers from falling and drowning in the waters below the cliffs. She may just be weak enough once she loses her next life that I can... influence her. Just like that Shadowclan tom. It worked once. Surely, Adderstar and I can make it work again. Skyclan losing the sanity and eventual life of their beloved leader will drive them right into Fluffcloud and Eelshock's paws."
"Into our paws." Jaguar purred deeply, knowing exactly what her mother was saying, and inwardly beaming under her approval once again.

Darkeyes prowled through the forest looking slightly crazed with his ragged fur and pelt full of scars. He lashed his tail as he continued to fail to call Darkblood back into the forest. "How could he escape? This is a prison."
~~
Goldfire padded into the clearing, sensing a new presence nearby. One he hasn't scented since his death. "Emberpaw? Is that you?" he called, his sightless eyes seeming to scan over the area. "My my my how did you end up here little one?"
~~~
Halfshadow sighed as he watched and spied on the Windclan kits, keeping a close eye on Meadowbrook's kin. "They're already corrupting their poor little heads with their Starclan spiel." he lamented to no one in particular.
~~~
Lilyleaf grinned ear to ear as she stared at the small Shadowclan kit in front of her. "Hello little one, what's your name?"
Hailkit blinked up at the warrior in confusion, where was the nursery? Wasn't he taking a nap with his siblings? "Oh um, I'm Hailkit, who are you?"
Lilyleaf settled in front of the kit, trying to block off the forest's darkness around them from his view, "My name is Lilyleaf, I've come to you in a dream to see you. But you can't tell anyone okay? This is a special secret meeting. I think we can be friends."
Hailkit frowned but settled beside the warrior, she looked nice at least. "Why can't I tell my Mama? She said Starclan visits cats in their dreams sometimes. Are you a Starclan cat?"

Willow) "Oh, stop wailing." Wrenflight scoffed as he watched the other Thunderclan tom pace around, calling out for his son. It was true, Darkeyes had seemed to disappear a while back, and even now his father was still snarling for him. Wrenflight rolled his eyes at the thought of ever calling for his son, his oldest at least. Silentflare didn't need to be called, as Wrenflight was sure that he would be here sooner than later. Rather, Wrenflight rumbled. "A prison? Anything that isn't Starclan is the opposite of a prison. Perhaps he's fleeing and hiding like a little kit." --- (Cloning Emberpaw!) Emberpaw startled as she looked around wildly, her stomach dropping with dread as she realized where she was. With such a dark, foreboding feeling, and based on what her father had told her in stories, surely this was not the kind of place that a cat wanted to be. She looked at Goldfire, gasping as she saw her clanmate again. She ran to him, voice choking. "I-...It was an accident, I didn't mean for her to fall, I shouldn't have climbed that ledge, I-" She trusted him, had missed him deeply when he died, and in that moment she didn't seem to care that he was clearly not in Starclan. Instead, she choked. "...This is the Dark Forest... where cats who can never go to Starclan go, right?" She shuddered with fear and guilt. "Please, I- I'm not evil!" --- "It's lies." Meadowbrook spat quietly, though it was clear she was actually a bit startled by the revelation of how difficult it was to see anything visual about Clovekit, as though a veil was thrown over her. Surely she could not be so bound to Starclan already? She hissed deeply, coldly. "I want my sister dead. I want her away from my daughters!"

Darkeyes twisted around, a snarl on his face as he faced Wrenflight. "I have ripped apart every corner of this damned forest and I can't find him anywhere. There's no way he can hide from me forever. I'm the reason he's in this forest, I'm the reason that pathetic little scrap earned his warrior name before he was taken down by his soft-hearted sister. Darkblood doesn't deserve to escape this place. He deserves to rot with the rest of us."
Goldfire blinked his unseeing eyes, a careful tail wrapping around the apprentice's shoulders, "Not all cats that end up here are evil Emberpaw. After all, you knew me your whole life, what had I ever done to the clan other than be a nuisance? Now, who fell? Tell me what happened. It sounds like you need a friendly ear to listen." he mewed, voice dripping with insincere sympathy as he settled on the ground beside her.
Halfshadow giggled, a grin splitting his face. "Now now Miss Meadowbrook, I had a surprise visitor the other night. My own little niece Yellowmoon! And Goldheart has been visiting almost every night. We'll get to them in time don't fret. Let your sister think they're safe. Let her guard come down, the watchful eye fall. Then we will strike. We must go slowly in order to convince them completely."

Wrenflight looked at the tom with an unreadable expression, before a chilling grin split across his face. "Well, Darkeyes. If he's not here, and he certainly would not have been granted into Starclan, then perhaps it's time we consider the possibility that he's... somewhere else." He referred to the living world, where perhaps his spirit had somehow returned, just ask it was believed Bloodmoon's had. The only issue, was that it was practically impossible to know who or what cat they were now. Wrenflight assured. "Rotting is the last thing that we're doing. No, we will be thriving soon enough. Your son may be lost to the Forest, but mine just might be returning." He paced back a few steps. "And I know a good way to really hurt your daughter, if you're willing to assist me." Emberpaw swallowed, knowing that Goldfire was right. He had never been evil, not as long as she had known him, and she had once loved listening to his deep voice and hearing his stories. Was this where cats went too, who just... didn't believe in Starclan? She shook the thought away, guilt clouding her as she croaked out. "S-...Spiritstar. She... she fell down the Jagged Drop helping me back up when I almost fell from it. I-... I swear! I didn't mean for it to happen!" Meadowbrook nodded slowly, consoled by the success that Halfshadow was having. Meadowbrook knew she had to stick to younger Windclan cats, or at least cats that could have sympathized with her. Needless to say, she had already felt that Weaselstride's dedication to the Dark Forest was purely for selfish intent, not that Meadowbrook blamed her. After all, she was a dedicated tunneler, and Meadowbrook had no quarrel with her. She grunted. "Patience is key. You're right, Halfshadow. Thank you."
