The Darkest Hearts What an oddly cryptic way to live.
Beyond known limits, Magic is a dream, but a curse all the same. And sometimes the line between what makes a hero and what makes a villain is blurred.
Sometimes, even in trying to achieve the unthinkable, the best known solution, an issue beyond your control grants life.
These, or this accurance is known as Karma, something very few could actually be aware of, but something that strikes at the most unfortunate of times.
And this is is the case for the severe few who dream to be heroes, dream to be villains, or dream for normality. A select few, mind you.
Hence why they call it, the myth, the Darkest Hearts, because what better way to cast these forbidden out of society?
Cast away by parents, by friends, by community due to a negative curse. What a bitter end.
See, the Darkest Hearts is a legend, per se, that signifies a warning of apocalypse, of the murderous fiends and traitorous scoundrels. And those marked by it must be deleted.
And each time this has occurred in the past, they were.
So here you are, finding yourself as a target, when all you aspired was a dream.
But you you know what they say?
Never follow fate, because perhaps it isn’t clearly stated.
For only fools defy the legend. -
Hello! Welcome to ‘The Darkest Hearts’ a Current WIP but OPEN RP that deals with a type of dystopian world in which every so often(About every 15 years) a strange accurance concurs, and teens start gaining, or being discovered with strange abilities. However, according to the leaders of the strange Utopian-like and lost ‘Atlantis’ and another city, called ‘Roanoke’, and other areas hidden within a silence kingdom, these linked cities seek to find and kill the children who possess the abilities, doing so under the guise of saving the kingdom from the children wrought to bring destruction. These children bare a mark of darkness, but it’s hidden for many. And even so, just possessing powers is the critirea people need to kill you regardless.
After an event gone wrong at a lab, children who were kidnapped(or just taken, some were orphans) begin to escape, but are majorly changed. They have abilities, abilities beyond what should be known. Yet it’s not natural, these abilities were given.but many don’t know that, and without practice, control is hard. When this fact becomes known, it’s up to them to band together and hide.
Elsewhere, members of both Roanoke and Atlantis begin noticing their abilities, and must escape when their lives are put to the test.
And even more mysteriously, people, not even of the kingdom of Terra, seem to tie into the little game too. These people aren’t even human, but are rare, and assumed to be part of the legend.
With th a major split, two roads diverged, heroes and villains, and perhaps whatever the imbetween is(a harder thing to become, given the circumstances, grouping is almost necessary to not be caught and to live on). Heroes, who wish to show that the legend won’t carry through, and that this is a mistake, those who try to show the light within even the darkest of hearts.
And those who refuse to needlessly die, those who choose to become what destiny foretells, and those who choose to kill to survive, if need be it.
Yet many darker secrets lie beneath just safety, and the faces of friends or fiends is blurred.
So what will the the cost of survival be? And who will win the game? - Alright, so, this isn’t super nice, but it’s somewhat inspired by the RP ‘We Could be Heroes’ but majorly differs in many aspects. TDH places aspect on this story that foretells that secrets are hidden beyond just belief, and that darkness hides in light, and vise versa. An aspect still exists regarding magic, however unless you explicitly ask me about it, I probably won’t allow your character to have a extremely powerful power(but then again, some do need these, as there is a plot, there are villains, and overall, just a story). This doesn’t have a fixed ending, but it is going to be an interesting ride.
You can join, no matter whom you are, and don’t need a form(not officially), I ask you give a character name, a minor description of hair and eye color(which can be odd, based on the circumstances), and their powers. Their backstory can remain secret.
Like mentioned, the true ‘Darkest Hearts’ have marks, but they are often hidden, and regardless may not show up on the skin until the ‘darkest Abilities’ are activated. Yet anyone, who has powers for whatever reason, is plotted to be killed. Even some people who don’t have powers, but were framed with having them, are killed.
This will be like a jump in, and will be fairly loose on rules. All romances allowed, please don’t be lewd with it though. And if you have a question, just ask.

(Either works, I’ll figure out the name either way.
:3.
I’m not too worried about duplicated powers, as I have so many characters, and I would love to see people have multiple characters too.
For reference, I’d like only OCs though, no canon(to any show or anything), that is, to keep this more fun and original.)

A young girl with hair a shiny black and eyes of shimmering lavender-blue who lived in the city of the underground cave, Atlantis, roamed to the streets of the underground place randomly, dodging people as she rushed to keep away from others. Her eyes trailed ahead, she had one goal, to not be noticed. Atlantis was dangerous, and the whole fact that her parents died to a Darkest Heart 15 years prior didn’t help anything in regards to attention. She was no hero, but they were. This was something she constantly remembered, and perhaps one of the only reasons that she could survive as an orphan. No one took her in permanently, and people felt too bad for letting her rot away and die. So therefore, the orphan was granted the coins, a phone for communication, and other small things to fill her time. Though, in reality, it wasn’t much.
Not that it really mattered, her powers doomed her now, and even though she had better control over them, she was no longer safe in her home, no, she had to flee. The water’s mistress couldn’t remain near others who may kill her for her identity of now being what they called a ‘Darkest Heart’.
(Other character starters will come soon. This here is Lorelei, The Ripple.)

(Books, and other things(such as the amazing game later produced). This world isn’t canon to Dragonlance, but some elements still exist. The idea developed from the games like chaotic good, neutral, bad/evil and such. The powers(like the maged even) are kind of inspired. The world itself fascinates me, but this world is quite different and completely original to itself(having no actual canon relations to another). However the idea of the chaotic storyline does kind of connect. The idea that a legend foretells their deaths, and that the goodguys, by definition, are the ‘bad guys’ is kind of the moral story behind this, to make you think about it.
Hopefully that makes sense, it’s really meant to be a storyline and RP rather than just an RP
That being said, it’s going to be developed along he way.)

Woot woot for natural storyline development.}

It’s kind of set, but kind of your choice, all characters who have powers(or, who are known to have them by others) are already said to be ‘bad’ and targeted by the community. Some of these characters can choose to defy the legend, and some can choose to try and follow the legend through, believing it’s their fate. Some with powers may hide them and either try to help the others or try to catch them in return. Even some normal characters can help or defy. It’s up to you guys!
Yep, DVD is, and by kind of extension, Boulder’s Gate(I’m sorry if I misspelled it, I used to play it so much).
While this world doesn’t have elf’s, or mage’s(in a normal sense), it has magic wielders, though they are of the few.
Different races do exist, specifically they are segregated for the most part. There are humans(who life in different areas depending on who they are) and the ‘aliens’, those from the small minority of other ‘secret’ planets Who come to Terra(Earth) by accident.)
(You can join if you would like, but don’t feel obligated too. We would be overjoyed to include you though!)

A pack of teenage boys lurked around one of the many gloomy street corners of the underground city of Atlantis. They hooted and hollered like hooligans, pushing each other around and accosting and poor passerby who they took notice of. At first glance they seemed like common thugs, but closer glance revealed this was far from the case. They were dressed nicely, in fine fabric. Expensive watches and golden rings would catch the light, glinting.
These were the sons of the most powerful men and women were Atlantis. Their parents were party of the city's ruling council or most influential merchants. Money was the quickest way to anything in Atlantis, and unlike most these boys had grown up in abundance of it. In their eyes, this city belonged to them. It was not as if the law enforcement could do anything to stop them, their parents were the law. So the rich controlled the government, and their children controlled the streets. Or at least this corner.
Among the laughing teenagers was Wes. He stood with the rest of the group, blending in. At least for now. He brushed back his long floppy black hair from his silver eyes. They stood out stark against skin that was almost translucent from rarely venturing out of the city and into the sun. He snickered as the boy next to him said something funny. For now he looked as if he were any other city rat, but how long would he be able to keep up the charade until he was found out? The boys he kept company with may be cruel, but they did not possess black hearts.

Lorelei recognized some of the boys before her, and her suspicion increased. She then cracked a smile, recognizing at least Wes from them. From her knowledge, he wasn’t as stuck up as he may have acted. Her purple tinted blue eyes, the color of coastal waters, narrowed. Nearby the underground city layer the underground river, which lead to the ocean. Yet the city was almost always safe from flooding. The teen, of 17 years, watched for a moment before collecting her breath and walking before them. She scanned them, rolling her eyes for a moment in good humor, a smile coming to her face. Her pale skin barely touched light as well, but her eyes were as bright as ever. Yet the annoyance was clear as her eyes snapped back on them, especially when some man had the nerve to yell at the fellow teens from a distance. Her eyes rested to the man who scurried off by then, ranting about ‘children these days’.
The girl, who wasn’t exactly a popular girl by her reputation for herself, but more so known as a hero’s daughter simply crossed her arms. “People these days, am I right?” She questioned, looking at the group for a moment. “So how’s the search for the Darkest going guys? Do your parents have any leads on who the new ones might be?” She asked, eyes narrowed. It was common knowledge in the city of who Lorelei Carlos was, and who her parents were. Her parents once served on the council prior to their murder by one of the prior ‘Darkest Hearts’, and even so, it made being a Darkest Heart that much worse. But she kept that hidden, no one had to know. Her eyes betrayed her emotions, as some sadness peeked through slightly, her arms remained crossed though.

Elsewhere.
A girl with hair so short and fluffy, sat upon one of the ruins of the city of Roanoke, legs dangling over the broken monument. Her heterochromatic eyes narrowed at the sunset, which was viewable from the city. Despite the ruins scattered aimlessly, Roanoke was a major Capital in the kingdom and world of Terra, and Dezaray know that well. Her hair was odd, multicolored from dyes. With colors of red, blond and black, and fluffed up. Surprisingly, the girl pulled the look off well with her skinny body and only lightly tanned skin. Though she was still pale for a above-ground citizen. Her eyes, heterochromatic in nature, consisted of the pretty blue and fascinating almost golden yellow.
She was currently looking out for any suspicious people, boredom etched onto her face. Overall, the whole ‘Darkest Hearts’ thing was kind of getting old. It seemed to be more of a method for controlling the population, or by freaking them out to the point of obeying. Either way, she didn’t want to stand to see innocents killed even she could t do much for them regardless.
(I have some males, females and others. For now, until more people join/more characters are added, I’ll probably stick to only a few.)

(Oh amazing, feel free to!)
(I have many more characters, some of which are OCs that we’re ceated for the WCRP, but I will use them here as well, as they are my characters.
These include, specifically, 3 siblings who will/May be cursed. Some may not be. At least one will be.
Daphne(possibly cursed): Steel grey eyes, tanned skin, brown hair. Middle sibling at about 17 years of age. Most likely won’t be cursed. He may be. If he is, he will have control over metal.
Kyoko(possible cursed): Blue eyes, blond hair, tan skin. Eldest sibling at 18, most likely won’t be cursed, but may be. If she is, she will have control over glass.
Holly(Cursed): Black hair, green eyes(with one later stained red), youngest sibling at 16. Paler then her siblings, still lightly tanned. Will be a ‘mage’ and have a darker curse alongside it. Holly is currently dead, and was a past ‘Darkest Heart’. She was killed at the age of at the age of 6, 10 years prior to the RP, but has seemed to still grow despite this.
(Alongside this, other character may be introduced from me. I’m willing to create or bring in as many as you guys would like. :3. Thanks for joining, and I hope you guys enjoy the RP.)

One of the boys of the pack whistled at Lorelei's approach, but he was quickly shoved back by the boy nearest to him.
"Hiii Lorelei." crooned the boy who pushed back the one that whistled.
"Nah, we haven't heard much." shrugged one of the more laid back of the boys, shaking his head at his friends antics.
"I heard that one weird kid down the road was taken into custody!" interjected another boy, eager to impress the girl.
"Idiot! That was just a rumour! That kids weird but he just got taken in for disturbing the peace." interjected another boy. They whole group of them than fell into a rowdy debate that involved just as much shoving as name calling.
Lorelei's eyes were interesting, Wes had never seen anyone else with quite that shade.
"The Council has been investigating some strange things on the West side of town." said Wes softly, staring intently at Lorelei. His silver eyes seemed to almost glow. Could he tell that she was hiding something? "They've been trying to keep it on the down low, they don't want to give the Dark one a heads up."
Shockingly the other boys quieted down to listen to Wes. This had been news to them too. The dark haired boy did not speak that much, but when he did it was usually with good reason too.

Lorelei chuckled lightly, rolling her eyes. But her foot tapped the ground through their antics, almost as if a impatient rabbit. “Of course it would be a rumor, a dark is killed when they are found out. No matter the age. Remember that child they found, who was only 6? They still killed her despite her age.” She pointed out, referencing one of the darker who wasn’t discovered for a long while until the young child’s accidentally revealed her powers in an attempt to rescue a cat from a speeding driver. The cat survived, but the kid, Holly, was killed immediately.
Lore’s eyes narrowed when she caught Wes peeking at her, suspicion in her gaze. Yet she seemed to ignore it, glancing at the others.
Yet when Wes spoke, her own eyes widened, shocked, she glanced at him as he spoke. She barely ever heard him speak, he seemed shy to her, he never seemed to speak. His friends seemed to reflect the train of thought.
“Huh, you don’t say?” Lorelei said, blinking out of her stupor. “Welp, just imagine, 15 years from now the cycle repeats. I wonder why it’s every 15 years. Well, we’ll eventually find out.” She murmured, sighing lightly as she pinched the bridge of her nose, “Well, how are you guys doing anyways?” She questioned, her midnight hair was longer, or medium in length, almost straight, falling behind her back and groomed well. She wore a jacket of navy coloring, and black pants to accompany them. She always seemed to wear dark attire though.
(Sorry for any typos, I’m writing on a tablet.)

{Oh yeah, are there any guidelines you want us to follow for powers?} (Not really, some powers will simply be rejected because it’s either really unique and taken, or because it’s too op. But even then, if it’s op, and you have a good plot reason for it, I’ll most likely allow it. Lorelei has water abilities, and I’ll have some other characters who have abilities as well. Holly had magic over Dreams, and some type of telekinetic magic. She was actually quite powerful, before her death. She also still ‘lives’ on in an Astral form. Yet we’ll get to that later :3. Daphne and Kyoko will probably be normal kiddos. And I’ll have a make I’ll introduce soon, Zivon(most likely) who has abilities over wind. Then again I’ll have a ton of characters for this, and many will be connected to one another in one way or another. Anyways, as you seen Holly seems op, but she’s very tied into the plot. This is completely fine, for example. And powers can be duplicated(most can anyways).)

(Oh and I'd like to ask what mages are? Are they different from the basic characters we would create? And what is your basis for a power that is really unique? Do you mean something we came up with ourselves and isn't something more common?)
|

(A mage, for reference, is a miscellaneous type ‘curse’ for this world. They can complete spells, and use magical energy better then others. They are a rarer type, and are limited(or can be limited) to their types of magic. A mage can control manipulation magic, per se, or other miscellaneous means. However, sometimes a better word could include psychic, telepath, empath, shifter and more. These are sub categories to the ‘mage’ type, which is really just the main title for most of the cursed.
For further knowledge, in this, I may dub characters with archetypes. I’ve already done this with some. You can do these for your characters yourself or I could make them when I start listing characters on a post.)
Lorelei, the Ripple
Holly, The Arcane Mage.)
(As for more unique...
Say your character can control memories, this could be considered op if they are simply a random character who doesn’t exactly fit this. But say this character is blind, or mute, or say that they are undercover and work against gifts. They could manipulate others into control. For plot reasons.
This could work for the opposite, a controller to help lead villains away.
Yet for now, I’d like to avoid time traveling type things, and maybe bringing people back from the dead or killing with a snap(Yes that’s a reference to a certain movie), and even these things will be allowed if the character proposes a purpose for them other than being super ‘OP’.
Holly is unique, given her situation, her powers are very uncommon and have many roots for why she is the way she is.
So yes, unique can be classified by the character and their secrets, and these reasonings. So feel free to have fun with this too. I’m really not going to say ‘no’ a lot to whatever you propose. Like I said, this is a developing story made by all of us. Though certain secrets are set, the storyline isn’t set in stone. I’d love to get you deep into the ‘world’ of Terra, make it a creative thing on its own where everyone has characters that are definite mains to the plot. Powers or not included.)

"Fantastic!" piped up the boy who had been trying to impress Lorelei with unsubstantiated rumours earlier.
"Ah c'mon Oliver, stop trying to impress her, you look like a toad challenged another boy. As Oliver set out to defend his honor, the older looking boy who had seen uninterested earlier rolled his eyes.
"Bored out of our minds." sighed the older boy. Generally the other boys regarded him as their unofficial leader. Erik was his name and he was one of the few in the group that possessed any common sense. Erik stood a good head taller than the rest of them, and his biceps were visible under the short sleeves of his white shirt. He had become leader by virtue of being the strongest, he did not really want to be. The others boys were like a gaggle of younger brothers he couldn't get to leave him alone.
Wes had returned to his usual silence, and although all the boys eyes kept wandering over Lorelei, his gaze seemed to be filled with something more critical than the rest of the boys impish thoughts. Lorelie Carlos, daughter of the great heroes of Atlantis.

(Hey! Sorry I disappeared, I completely forgot I had an assignment due tonight so I had to knock it out before I could respond ) It wasn't always easy being the daughter of a merchant, especially when one was trying to avoid being seen by others. Sybella spent her life hiding under a dark green hood she often wore. Her freckled cheeks and long, curly black hair stood out underneath the hood. People often whispered to one another whenever she walked by. Perhaps she came from witches? Maybe she sold herself to the devil? People often did not try to speak to her due to being afraid of her. Whenever someone attempted to approach her and talk to her about something other than buying her goods at her stall, then she often replied with short answers and a sharp tongue. Even though it was hard to sell much of anything, she always somehow managed to survive. It was just another day standing at her stall, waiting for someone to approach her and ask her about her products. The average 17-year-old would prefer to spend time with their friends instead of tending to a stall, but Sybella figured she had nothing better to do. However, she has noticed that since her father became ill their sales decreased, perhaps it was because she was the only one at the stall during this time. Sometimes she thought about forcing a smile and attempting to be pleasant but the last time she did that it led to more rumors spreading about her. Perhaps saying there was a sale on something would promote sales? "Discounted items today, get them while they last!" She shouted, attempting to get the attention of anyone.

Lorelei felt for Erik, who looked mildly annoyed, and she in returned cracked a small laugh. Yet she returned to silence, “Well, better yet, what do you guys think of the legend? Do you think all of them are evil that are killed, or is it just a misunderstanding?” She piped up, flicking her gaze across them, assessing their reactions. The young orphan waited patiently.
Her gaze wandered to Wes, whose eyes seemed analyzing were making her uncomfortable, though her life taught her not to let that show, she returned his gaze a moment. Yet her eyes flicked away, eyes were, in a sense, a perfect view into someone’s heart. And if the legend was true, Lore didn’t think she should be looking anyone in the eyes, that was, if she wanted to live.
The girl visibly jumped as a scream echoed in the air farther beyond in the city, and a gunshot rang out just moments later. She visibly winded at the sound, though it wasn’t hard to predict the reason for the gunshot or the scream. Someone must have been discovered, a Darkest Heart must be dead, leaving her somewhat fearful of her surroundings. Though that could easily pass for the sounds that echoed in the air.

Daphne, a young boy at 17 years old, and often teased for his interest in other males, walked silently among the mart. He came to make a certain purchase, flowers, and other memoirs for the anniversary. An anniversary he treasured, but hated. 10 years ago, when he was 7, his younger sibling by one year was killed. He remembered learning about it, and despite the fact that those with powers were called ‘The Darkest Hearts’, he still felt that the curse must be false. For Holly, despite her sharp tongue, and easily sarcastic nature, was a beam of good. Though, painstakingly upset over it, he kept the cat his sister saved, the one that they managed to get. They named the little kitten Hecate, and the cat was now full grown, the calico had a blue and green eyes. His sister gave her life for the cat, so he watched over it like a hawk. Said cat was at home, but he was still out.
He heard a girl call out for discounts, and approached, sheepish in his mannerisms as he smiled delicately. “Oh, hello, would you happen to have a sale for any flowers of any kind?” He asked, brown hair falling into his face some, and his grey eyes somewhat nervous at the social contact, he was a simply bashful teen. Very respectful too(a bit unlike his sister, Kyoko).

Sybella was not shocked that someone approached her stall. The moment people hear there is a discount on any items then they come running, no matter who is selling it. Just a bunch of vultures... She thought to herself when she saw the boy approaching her stall with her dark brown eyes that almost appeared black if someone glanced at her. However, she knew better than to say anything out loud. She had to make at least one sale to contribute to medicine. She figured it was best to say as little as possible and get the sale over with.
"Yes. Right here." She bent over and picked up a container that held three types of flowers, each having a quantity of five. It held white lilys, red carnations, purple tulips, and peach colored roses. When she stood back up, her hood fell off of her head, revealing her face that was often hidden. She placed the container on her stall and put her green hood back up. She felt exposed when she did not have her hood, it was almost like a security blanket. "Half off." She muttered, making sure she was loud enough to hear.

(You've put a lot of thought into this world~ I look forward to joining it! ^^ Just to clarify, not all of our cursed characters are considered mages? Just the most powerful or most well-versed?
My proposed starter characters have:
{Teleportation between certain distances and the ability to switch places with whatever or whoever has been 'marked' {Something undefined but can be classified as bardic magic- the ability to affect others with music/speech/singing {Divination, the ability to read fortunes in things such as dice or cards
Just want to make sure these are okay! I'll give them greater detail as I write-
And then for character types, I have one in the works who would be a kind of enemy general(?) when it comes to hunting the ones with Gifts- if that's okay? I don't know what the ranks would be like...Would it be a secret organization or quasi-military? Secret agents?)

(Oh yeah those will be fine, just make sure to clear it with others before shifting places with their characters! And yep, anti-characters exist too. They can be secret agents, or part of the hunters for the gifts with the government. It’s up to you!)
Daphne watched her, frowning. She looked discontented, hidden with her hood, and when it fell off the perch of her head, that seemed to increase. Despite his sister’s death, his family was wealthy, though through their own means. But he felt sympathy still, so he added, to be kind, “I very much like your hood, it’s a very pretty green,” his eyes gained a sad touch, “It reminds me of my sisters eyes,” he murmured, visioning Holly from when she was alive, bright evergreen eyes alight with mischief. He shook his head, clearing those sad thoughts away. Though his anger remained at her death.
“Whatever the full price is, I prefer to pay that, it’s not very fair that you work this hard to make sales and make all these wonderous objects and don’t your proper money’s worth,” he pointed out, gladly handing over the full price. His grey eyes narrowed as he looked up, sighing, gaining a smile, “These flowers will look good on the memoir for her, I think she would have liked you too, she loved green, it seems you do too,” he added, a little silent. He always lived in sadness over Holly’s death, and he was against the murdering of the cursed, even if he himself wasn’t one.
