"I agreed to aid you and you alone," Outis replied. He crept over to the door and sniffed outside the hall, trying to determine if any other creature had dared to wander into the area. "After I passed over the castle walls that night, other humans were not included in the bargain. If you so wish, perhaps we can come to an agreement on new terms." Already picking out candy-coated words to work in exactly what he wanted, he silently slipped out of the human's chambers and started retracing his path through the maze of halls.
Admittedly, finding his way back out was more difficult now the blood oath wasn't tugging on his bones. Had he passed the suit of armor with the stale scent of despair clinging to the metal chinks? Or was it the one with the ash settled along the visor rim? Unsure, Outis huffed in disdain before searching the floor for the tar-like trail he had nearly stepped in earlier.

There was disappointment on Mika’s face when Outis said he didn’t owe Mika’s family any sanctuary, but after what they had done... he could understand. Even if they hadn’t tried to lock Outis away as a training toy, the entire war wasn’t nessisarily great for the relationship between the royal family and arcane creatures. He really couldn’t ask Outis for more than they had already agreed on. He was beginning to show interest when Outis mentioned discussing new terms, but something else took his attention.
A terrified, pained scream from down the hall, one of his brothers. Mika suddenly remembered the inky tarbeast’s words and he paled as he realized his family was under attack in this moment. “Yes, what can I offer?” He told Outis quickly, hoping that whatever the old beast had in mind might spare his siblings and father. The scream hadn’t lasted long and every second it took for Outis to answer only made Mika more anxious.

Ear flicking at the echoing shriek, Outis looked up from the floor and faced the boy. The human was duller than he had initially hoped. There went half of his fun. No matter, as long as he got what he wanted in the end. "What would you offer in exchange for a life? Perhaps your own? Another creature's? Or something far more valuable?" He stayed completely still, fur flat and muscles locked. "What is it that creatures so fragile as you would value more than a life? That I can't obtain for myself?"
Pausing for a heartbeat, he continued to answer his own question, "Time. All I desire is the rest of your short time. If you agree to my assistance concerning you and your family despite all the wrongs that have been committed, you will remain with me. You will tarry where I tarry, or linger where I bid you to. Your time will be mine to do as I wish with." It would be payment for all the time the humans have wasted and give Outis the chance to feast on a seemingly bottomless well of energy.

Though Mika was silent as Outis spoke, he couldn’t shake his dread that they were already about to be too late. He forced an enormous pressure on his jaw to keep from rushing the old beast’s request when he paused. The longer that silence followed from the other room, the deeper his fear drove. Maybe a smarter man would have hesitated or negotiated. Or even asked questions. He wanted to, but as soon as Outis was done speaking he was already nodding in agreement and putting his hand forward.
“I’ll give whatever you’ll accept for my family’s safety.” His words were rushed but quiet. He wanted to feel like he was making the right choice. But there were so many unanswered questions he couldn’t ask. It felt foolish, dangerous. He wasn’t certain of his trust in Outis and he hadn’t made any guarantee for his own safety. But the silence in the other room only pushed him to just agree and let Outis complete his half of the bargain.
He couldn’t waste time.

Outis stared down at the human's outstretched hand, mostly in confusion at the gesture. All the creatures he knew only did something of the sort to demonstrate that their hands were weaponless and they were making a pact to not attack. Obviously, the human posed no threat to him but Outis moved aside his cloak to bare his own callused palm. He didn't bother wiping the dirt from climbing the stone wall that had etched itself into creases of his skin and under his sharpened nails.
Voice a deep purr, he replied, "I will only take what is necessary. Nothing more." Nothing less. He swiftly turned down the hall and started for the silent room. He sniffed the air, trying to judge what he was walking into. Perhaps quite literally. Cleaning the black sludge out of his fur would take ages. Smelling nothing besides rank bog and the humans, he burst through the door and snarled, "I told you to leave."

Mika had begun to move his hand forward to shake Outis’s when he realized the forest creature was already withdrawing before the contact had been made. For a second, his heart seized in his chest Outis‘ was about to withdraw his bargain, but... he agreed verbally... Perhaps handshakes were’t the way he made promises. He would just have to follow along as best he could...
Speaking of following... Outis was already taking off. Was he supposed to keep following him now? After his siblings were safe? If he didn’t follow now and he was meant to, would the deal be off? He couldn’t risk that.
He followed after, a growing awareness forming of the mess the tarbeast had left in its wake. Another suit of guard’s armor was still and stained on the floor of the hall... He wouldn’t think of it. Not now, there was still questions and a danger present.
Outis opened the door to the younger brother’s room and Mika sucked in a frightened breath at the sight. The bedding was disturbed and scattered, any cloth surface he could see stained dark and his brother on the ground struggling under the tar beast. His movements were clearly growing weaker and more forced as he fought for breath, the tarbeast lifting its head to eye Outis warily.
If Mika could see this creature in the dark anything beyond a silhouette and glistening teeth, he would have seen a face twisted in frustration and suspicion. “You said the other two were mine.” It hissed, slowly rising. It’s claws came up from the child’s face and the boy cough and heaved hard to catch his breath. “What are you doing defending these monsters? These are the humans keeping this war going!”

(I'm so sorry that I haven't been able to respond lately. Life has been so chaotic and proboards hasn't been working on my phone. I'd like to continue the roleplay if you do! Is it possible to move it to google hangouts or discord?)
