Emiko With Jasmine
Emiko laughed brightly as Jasmine took off. They reminded her of an excited kit in that moment. "We'll be back!" Emiko called to where Oliver, Shorty and Eagle were before spinning around. The spotted she-cat bounded after Jasmine, skidding to a stop as they waited for her. A soft paw lashed out to gently boop her friend on the nose. "Come on then!" Emiko chirped cheekily, tail almost wagging in excitement. She turned and trotted along the stream, eyes bright as she thought of what they were heading towards. 'Could this really be what we've been waiting for?' She thought, almost breathless from anticipation.
Oliver With Eagle and Shorty
Oliver's ears flicked back. He had no clue what type of name would suit him. He glanced at Eagle and Shorty, gathering his voice. "Do you... Have an idea about names?" He asked the other two toms awkwardly. Words often felt thick and heavy in his mouth and the eloquence in his mind never really translated well into the physical world. One ear flickered towards Emiko as she called out to them and disappeared, but he shook his head and ignored it.
Mimi With Tawny, Badger and Berry
Mimi chuckled and heaved herself to her paws. "I'd be good with some moss gathering," She affirmed, smiling warmly at Badger. The older tom seemed a little awkward, but he reminded her a little of her first mate, Oliver's father, in his manner. "What about you Tawny?" She asked, turning to the younger Queen, "Up for the oh-so-strenuous task of collecting moss?" There was a gleam of warm humour in her eyes. Mimi was most definitely enjoying herself these past few days and it only seemed to be getting better.

"Well," Eagle mused, "Cats are usually named after either what they look like, or their personality. I was named Eaglekit by my parents because of my pelt," He explained. "It's usually easiest to just go with what you look like if you're choosing your own name."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I'm up for it," Tawny purred. She stood up, her tail curling over her back. She was suddenly incredibly excited - she had a new life in a Clan, and she had four lovely kits on the way. Smog was nowhere to be found, and the dark, stifling city was far, far behind her. She barely knew what was next, but she didn't really care...
((SmugGull Yes hello and welcome! You are free to bring your characters in anyway that you choose, but if you need suggestions then a group of one big boi and two queens are about to gather moss, a tiny girl about to go hunt, and a kittypet learning to hunt from a cat who is near tears. There's also a Shadow around somewhere. Also Sparkly, I actually laughed out loud at poor Winchester, which I don't do often. I was gonna have Pearl fail miserably and set her up for thinking about going home but I really don't have it in me to kill Win's hopes for the clan lol. Lycaonia, yer doin good kid.))
Pearl with WinchesterStill scrambling to keep her paws in the right places, Pearl was surprised when the mouse ran directly at her. Fighting the urge to jump away from this obviously crazed rodent, the cat stretched her claws out and swiped. At the feeling of contact she brought her other front paw down on top and hooked those claws into the mouse's fur. As if she was playing with her fabric mouse toy, she tossed it up. After the thud of the fallen body, Pearl sniffed and prodded the mouse. Her muscles were tense as she waited for it to jump back up and attack her out of fright. Jasmine with EmikoConcentration broken by a boop, Jasmine fell in place next to their fellow long-legged cat. The creek gave off a soothing ambiance as the two traveled. The sun had moved just a smidge when Jasmine spoke for the first time, "How far do you think it is?" They wouldn't think this mystical boulder they were searching for would be too far away. Surely GleamClan hadn't sent their medicine cat a terrible distance from the camp for the bi-moonly visits with StarClan. Then again, Jasmine wasn't fond of the idea of Emiko going alone anyway, or any other cat. Not yet at least. Shorty with Oliver & Eagle"Looks, huh?" Shorty meowed sullenly as he stuck a stumpy foreleg out. He stuck his tongue out in disgust too. "I don't care too much about my name, I just don't want it to be based on my looks." His medium length fur fluffed out while he tried to muse over possible names. Nothing sounded good to him. Then something else came to mind. "So what if a litter had a group of similar looking kits, like all black?" Badger with Tawny & Mimi"Very strenuous," Badger agreed quietly as he stood to follow the queens. "I think I saw a good place for moss on our way here." With a good luck nod to Berry for her hunting, Badger waited for the two queens. He was sure this outing was going to be a calm one. Possibly more so than his morning with the talkative ginger cat he'd worked next to. Not that he minded, Berry seemed to notice his lack for words early on and held a mostly one-sided conversation with pauses here and there in case he did want to jump in. Being around other cats didn't make him nervous in a survival sense, but he wondered if he'd get used to being so comfortable conversing casually on a regular basis. He was sure, at the very least, that he would ease into growing close to these cats and ready to protect them with his life if needed.
Xena woke with a start, jerked from her dreams of warm fires and soft Twoleg floors by the sound of Shrike's meow - and a jab in the shoulder. She glared at him, debating going back to sleep and running the risk that he would simply give up on her and eat any squirrels he caught himself, but the warning glint in his eyes told her she'd better not push it.
"It's cold," she whined, fluffing up her thin coat. "Why can't we go back to the city? I'm sure there are other housefolk who would take us in."
"And eat rabbit dirt? No thank you." It was an old argument between them. "Come on, I'm going to teach you how to hunt."
Xena's ears perked up. Hunting was something she'd enjoyed - she hadn't had the opportunity to do so in her housefolk's garden, beyond the occasional mouse - but learning it from Shrike? She was actually excited.
"Well done!" Winchester purred, approaching Pearl. "You did well there. I'm proud of you." He truly was proud - Pearl had done the actual kill all on her own. That was at least something. "Do you want to bury this for later, then go and find something a little more of a challenge?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"It would probably depend on things like build or which gender the kit is," Eagle explained. "In a Clan system, there are two parts of the name. The first part is usually based on the cat's appearance, or some other reason, and is given by the parent. The second part is based off a cat's personality or a skill they have, and is given by the leader. For example, my mother was named Squirrelstep - Squirrel because she had a ginger pelt, and step because she was good at walking quietly."

((I am indeed a very good girl ;P In any case, I'm considering Foxwhisper for Oliver instead of Foxtail. I think it might suit him more, since I have a better idea of his developing personality now. ^^ I'm aso considering changing Mimi to Doeshine since there's two other 'heart' names already.))
Emiko With Jasmine
Emiko hummed as she considered Jasmine's question. She eyed the position of the sun and closed her eyes, thinking back to her vision. "Not too much longer," She replied, blinking warmly at Jasmine as she paused fora moment to take a drink. "I'd say about the same distance again, perhaps a little farther," She purred, "Certainly we should be back at Camp long before sundown, depending on how long we speak with StarClan for."
Oliver With Eagle and Shorty
Oliver tilted his head, considering his own pelt. His fur was also red, but he didn't think that 'squirrel' would fit him much. An idea came to him and he blinked, a small smile crossing his muzzle. "My mother used to call me her little fox when I was younger," He offered softly, a question in his voice as he continued, "So that might do for the first part for me..."
Mimi With Tawny, Badger and Berry
Mimi shook out her long, silky coat and took a deep breath. It was so much sweeter out here, away from the two-legs. The Camp was already beginning to smell like home. Purring, Mimi butted her head gently against Tawny's shoulder and nudged her shoulder gently into Badger, watching to see if either were uncomfortable with the contact. Mimi had always been affectionate, but she wouldn't push her affection on those who didn't want it. "Lead the way then, Badger," She meowed, beaming warmly as the large tom.
Shadow With Shrike and Xena
Shadow heaved a tired breath around the prey in his mouth. A half-day to himself had settled his nervousness and he was looking forward to returning to Camp. He had managed quiet a haul, including a squirrel that he was very proud of since he had never managed to get one of the quick creatures before. A few birds, his favourite thing to hunt and the prey he was best at catching, and three mice finished it off.
A voice from far away made him perk up. He quickly hid the bird he was carrying and started towards it. The scent of unknown cats hit his nose and he leapt up into a nearby tree, travelling quietly over the branches until he was looking down at a pair of cats. Hunkering down, Shadow decided to watch them for a little while, in-case they were a threat.

Shrike's ears twitched as he heard the faint rustle of leaves. He turned, seeking the source of the noise, but saw nothing, and the wind was blowing the wrong way for him to catch a scent.
He drew Xena closer to him anyway. "We'll start with mice," he said, glancing back towards her. "I've seen you hunt them before in the Twoleg gardens."

(Thank you!)
From where she perched on top of her twolegs' fence, Bumble could see everything. Or, at least, what appeared to be everything that was worth seeing. The small she-cat curled her tail around her paws and gazed out into the world beyond her back garden, the blue collar on her neck starting to itch again. She was quite startled by the soft mew of "hullo" from down below and peered over the edge of the fence only to see the familiar pale pelt of her friend Cobweb. Cobweb wasn't really a housecat like her; he lived mostly on the streets and slept in a battered old cardboard box, but sometimes he visited the housefolk a few nests down for food and shelter in particularly bad weather. Bumble thought that Cobweb was nothing like the other street cats she'd seen, skulking in alleyways with claw marks all over their ragged pelts: Cobweb was slim, with soft, pretty fur and big blue eyes. He might've made an excellent housecat, she thought as she waved to him with her tail. She dropped down from the fence and pushed her nose warmly into her friend's neck fur. "Where are we going on our adventures today, Cobweb?" She asked merrily, twitching her whiskers. "I'm not sure," the pale tom all but whispered. Bumble thought for a moment, frowning, and then jumped up in excitement as an idea hit her. "I know! We could go hunting in the forest!"

((I think this'll be as good a time as ever to bring in a cat I've been thinking about for a few days.. Also Foxwhisper would be a fantastic name for Ollie and wow Doeshine sounds so beautiful <3))
Pearl with Winchester
The loud purr from praise that Pearl had started was quickly cut off at Winchester's followup. "More of a.." she began to sputter, only to stop herself. The she-cat steeled herself, taking one deep breath before nodding firmly. She quickly dug a hole in the ground and dropped the mouse in. As she scooped a mound of earth over it, Pearl spoke with enough confidence that it surprised her. "Alright, what's next?"
Jasmine with Emiko
Full faith in Emiko, Jasmine gave a satisfied nod. They wondered what it would be like to speak with StarClan. Would they freeze under the starry gazes of cats they'd heard about their whole life? Would they be able to say anything at all? It wasn't until now that the fuzzy cat considered anything but fanfare when they had found their ancestors. A sudden feeling of trepidation kicked in, large paws slowing just a tad.
Shorty with Eagle & Oliver
Shorty thought this naming system sounded like it could get troubling at times, like if a cat just wasn't good at it. Hopefully Jasmine wouldn't be terrible, he'd hate to have a repetitive name. He was a small brown cat, what if he got a name like Twigbranch? The tiny cat shuddered at the thought. At Oliver's mention of his nickname, Shorty chuckled. "Yea, I could hardly tell you from the fox earlier." Looking around at the leftover cats in camp, younger or injured ones, he turned back to Ollie. "Hey, where's that cat with the bad leg?"
Badger with Mimi & Tawny
Taken surprise by sudden contact, Badger stiffened for a moment. It wasn't scary or terrible. In fact it reminded him of when he was with a smaller group of cats for a few moons. Some of them were also naturally touchy, and he learned to accept occasional brushes of fur here and there. He even came to miss it when the group split. Relaxed again, the large tom smiled a little and took the lead. He even let his tail brush against Mimi's paws as he passed to show her it was ok. The spot wasn't too far from camp, thankfully, and only took a few moments to get there. Badger thought it was just far out of sight and hearing range. A safe place to bring the two queens, and he supposed later for young apprentices to gather moss. From what he overheard, this was a standard practice. The area itself was next to a small pond, there were a few sloping rocks that cats could lounge on and some shady trees. All good conditions for moss. "Here we are, sorry it wasn't much of an adventure," he found himself saying as he surveyed the spot.
Mystic with Soot
With his Upwalkers finally all gone for the day, Mystic knew it was time to make his escape. He tried the cat door they usually left open for him, but to his surprise it was blocked by something. Huffing, he went to a window and started to paw at it. Normally he liked how sturdy they were, good for laying against without the fear that he'd fall to the other side unexpectedly. Today it was annoying. He tried as many windows as he could find but they were all closed up. Resigned, the light gray and white tom plopped down on his nest to mull about the recent events until he fell asleep. A loud noise from the door woke the young tom up, and he sprang from his bed to see what was happening. Another odd sound and then the door was open! Two Upwalkers he didn't recognize were at the door with a lot of stuff and yowling, but Mystic took no heed as he zoomed out through the door. He heard their yowls turn panicked as they saw him take off, but there was no way he was turning back.
The tom enjoyed his freedom for a while, wide hazel eyes looking everywhere but in front of him. So it's no surprise when he bumped into something. His soft fur fluffed out when he saw it was a larger gray tom. He'd heard about street cats from his time at the shelter, how they'd claw your eyes just for looking at them. Well he wasn't having any of that. Mystic might've never fought in his life with anything but his toys and his owner's furniture, but this cat didn't know that. Immediately he snarled at the larger tom, "Just stay back!"

Soot blinked in surprise, staring down at the smaller tom without moving a muscle. This strange grey and white cat had just barreled into him out of nowhere and then started to snarl and hiss as though he was a dog or a fox or something. He wrinkled his nose at the familiar, yet still unpleasant, stench of kittypet - they smelled too much like their housefolks' nests for his liking, nothing like cats at all. "I wasn't planning on coming any closer," Soot deadpanned, green eyes expressionless as he stared the kittypet down, "what are you doing out here, kittypet? Shouldn't you be with your housefolk in their nest?" Relatively unbothered by the tom's show of aggression, Soot sat down and swiped a paw over his ear. "It's dangerous out here, there are a lot of cats you could run into out here who are nowhere near as friendly as me." Soot wasn't necessarily a fighter - sure he'd been in a few scraps with other cats before, mostly the toms who owned the nearby alleyways, but he didn't consider himself a hostile or aggressive cat or someone who enjoyed beating wandering kittypets bloody. "What's your name, kittypet?"

Mystic with Soot
Seeing that the tom had no interest in shredding him, the younger cat calmed himself. He was still somewhat on edge, but at least his fur was flat at the moment. "I'm Mystic, and there's no way I'm going back to those awful Upwalkers," he huffed. His hazel eyes were narrowed as he shifted his weight from one paw to the next and back again. Though he didn't want to, he winced a little. "What about you, what's your name?" he asked to get his mind off other things.

((They're much better names, I think ^^ Oli's so quiet and watchful and Mimi's such a bright thing. I'm gonna stick with Shadowwatcher and Lilyfern for the other two though. Also owlspots I don't have a problem with Emi having an Apprentice ^^ Though they'll probably learn quite a lot together.)) Shadow With Shrike and XenaShadow nearly chuckled at the young she-cat. He kept it in but couldn't help the warm amusement that flowed over him at the sight. He remembered his mother teaching him to hunt for the first time. As the pair moved, a bird was startled from the undergrowth and flew into the air. A flash of mischief made Shadow launch himself out of the tree, catching it neatly around the neck and landing easily near the two much younger cats with the bird hanging limply from his jaws. He straightened and glanced at the two, tail flicking easily as the patch of sunlight he stood in showed off his heavily-scarred pelt and shredded ears. Knowing he looked vicious and intimidating to most, he set down his catch and sat, curling his tail around himself. "Good afternoon," He rumbled, blinking calmly. Emiko With JasmineEmiko was brimming with energy and excitement. Finally the shadows she had seen in her dreams were becoming clearer, her future was almost upon her and she couldn't wait. Excited as she was, it took her a few moments to realise Jasmine had fallen behind. Falling back herself, she slowed to match her future Leader's pace, though it was all semantics at this point for Emiko. Jasmine was her Leader as far as the half-blind she-cat was concerned. Emiko was silent for a bit, studying Jasmine's worried face. "Jasmine?" She finally asked, brushing her tail against Jasmine's side, "Are you alright?" Oliver With Eagle and ShortyOliver nodded, quietly pondering a second part when Shorty spoke, ducking his head in slight embarrassment at his comment about the fox. He supposed his fur really was bright enough, it was only the stripes that set him apart and even then they were difficult to make out when he was moving. Attention peeked, his ears shot to attention as Shorty asked about Spirit. "Not sure," He replied, looking around Camp, "Might still be asleep. Was a big journey yesterday for those with four fully working legs. Might as well let her sleep, she'll have time to build up her stamina." Mimi With Tawny, Badger and BerryMimi almost purred with happiness at the returned affection. With their new two-legs basically ignoring them, Mimi had been rather starved for affection lately. Oliver had done his best, but she had been used to larger amounts of it from their first two-legs and for a far longer time than he had. She knew the Clan would be good for her and, as they left Camp and she saw her quiet, reserved son talking with other, she knew it would be good for Oliver too. 'And the little ones will grow up surrounded by cats who care and will never abandon them,' She thought, almost desperately wishing for it as the same time. shaking it out of her head she smiled at Badger as the three arrived at the moss. "Oh I think I'll have enough adventure soon enough," She chuckled, motioning to her stomach, "Wouldn't want to go too far out anyway."

Soot raised his brow in mild surprise, pausing his grooming to stare at the tom - Mystic, he'd said. "Were they really that awful? Must've been terrible having a nice roof over your head," he scoffed, putting his paw back on the ground, "what did they do to you to make you run away?" He had wanted to avoid the subject of his own name, not wanting to form an attachment with this kittypet, but when Mystic asked he'd figured it would've been rude of him to ignore the question. "My name is Soot, I live in that alleyway over there," he pointed a few tail-lengths away to the narrow opening between two fences, briefly glancing at it as though he was expecting something else to be there. Then something sprung to the forefront of his mind, and he turned back to the kittypet. "Say, now that you've left your housefolk - upwalkers, twolegs, whatever - do you have a place to stay? The streets are even more dangerous at night, and I doubt you've ever seen a fight in your life," he gave Mystic a quick once-over, taking in his kittypet-soft fur and the lack of scars or cuts or wounds anywhere on his body, "are you headed anywhere in particular?" Soot didn't see himself as an unreasonable or particularly cruel cat to the point where he'd abandon such a vulnerable cat in possibly the scariest place he knew of, so if the younger tom asked it of him he supposed he'd be willing to escort him to wherever he needed to be, then he'd turn right back around and return to his dark, dingy alleyway. Recently he'd heard tales from some of the other cats who lived nearby about a growing group of cats in the forest - something about starting a life together in some kind of... what did they call it? A Clan? Yes, that was it. A Clan. Perhaps Mystic wanted to head there, if he'd heard the same things. Soot couldn't really blame him; a life of more security than the one he currently had, where he'd have other cats to hunt and fight with - it sounded rather appealing. But Soot had always been alone, and he doubted he'd adjust well to living in such a tight-knit group of cats. If that's where Mystic is going, I suppose if I was to go along with him I could check it out for myself, he reasoned, zoning out for a second.
(Lycaonia thank you! I think they'd do really well together, Cobweb would get along well with her I think!)

Xena startled as the bird flew out of the bushes, then shrieked as a massive black tom caught it in midair. Shrike whirled around, teeth bared and fur puffed out.
That's not a fight I'm winning, he realized with dawning horror. The tom's fur was scarred and his ears were shredded - he'd survived more fights than Shrike had ever seen, even peering around street corners and spying from treetops.
Shrike dropped into a defensive crouch, taking a cautious step back. "Good afternoon," he replied, a little stiffly. "Is this...your territory?"
Xena pressed herself against her brother's flank. "Shrike...?"

Shadow With Shrike and Xena
Shadow hummed in thought. "You know," He rasped, thinking it over, "I'm not entirely sure." He stayed completely relaxed, eyeing the thin tom with amusement in his gaze. "There's a group of us actually," He explained, tilting his head and letting out a deep chuckle, "But we haven't set up a territory boundary yet. You may or may not be within it, though given that we aren't overly far from where we set up Camp, I'd say you are."
Shadow stretched out languidly and lay down in the hopes that the pair would relax a little. "You and your kin have nothing to fear from me," He assured Shrike, letting himself smile at Xena, "Even if I were inclined to attack, which I'm not, I don't think my friends would be too happy at me scaring off potential joiners. We're kind of looking to build up a bit, if you're interested in taking a look." Using the plural of 'friend' might have been a stretch there,but he figured it wouldn't be for long.

Shrike took another pace back at the mention of a group. There was something about the tom's calm, easygoing demeanor that set him on edge, but when he mentioned 'potential joiners' Shrike's ears pricked up. Cautiously, he relaxed his stance. "What kind of group are you?" he asked cautiously. He had no wish to get caught up in the back-ally feuds of the Twolegplace, but maybe here in the forest things would be different.
"How many of you are there?" Xena meowed curiously, inching closer until she stood just behind Shrike's shoulder.

Shadow With Shrike and Xena
Shadow smiled at the pair. "There's about a dozen of us so far," He answered, rolling his eyes with fondness at the thought of the eclectic group, "We have a Leader, a couple of Queens, a handful of street cats, forest cats and kitty-pets as well as a tiny little crazy thing with a talent for healing others." He shifted slightly to show off a still-raw wound on his side that looked at least several days old. "I got this yesterday in a scrap with another tom. An hour in Emiko's paws had me completely pain free. It aches some now, but I bet I mention anything about it near the little whirlwind and she'll remedy that," Shadow chuckled, remembering the indignant sweet voice, before continuing, "Apparently together we're going to make something called a 'Clan' and I'll be a 'Warrior'. Not too sure about it yet myself, but I've got reason to stick around. Tawny flashed through his mind, making him shake his head.
Shadow stood, stretching the knots from a long day's hunt out of his back. Carefully, he pushed the newly-caught bird towards the pair and stood a good few steps back. "From what I've been told, they take good care of each other," He continued softly, sitting down again, a slightly-pained smile on his face, "No more having to hunt or beg for scraps when you're delirious with fever because of a territory fight. Your Clan-mates hunt for you while your Medicine Cat heals you. No more starving at the end of the day because of a ruined hunt. No more being chased away by two-legs or other cats wanting what you have. A home. A family." Shadow chuckled, running a paw over his face. "Ah, I'm getting sentimental in my old age," He huffed, eyeing the pair with wry amusement, "You two feel free to eat that and, if you want, I can introduce you. If not, we part ways, no hard feelings."

Shrike inched forward and picked up the bird in his mouth, turning his head to drop it in front of Xena. The little tortoiseshell tore into it eagerly and a faint smile crossed Shrike's face as he watched. It sounded...nice, what the tom was offering. Almost too good to be true, but it meant safety and security and having a future that wasn't filled with darkness in every corner.
"I'm Shrike," he meowed eventually. "This is Xena. If you could introduce us...I'd appreciate it."

Bumble and Cobweb hadn't been in the forest for long; it had taken an awful lot of convincing to get Cobweb to come with when Bumble had suggested exploring the forest. However, to Bumble's delight, the pale tom had finally agreed, and now here they were. "Have you ever caught a mouse before, Cobweb?" Bumble asked, glancing up at her friend. Cobweb shook his head. "No, I did catch a bird once though. I don't usually like to hunt because I'm not very good at it," he admitted, his voice soft. "Can you teach me how to hunt?" Bumble's eyes were wide with awe as she stared at Cobweb - he definitely didn't strike her as the type to have caught a bird before! Cobweb shrugged, remaining silent, as though he'd already given her an answer to her question. Then he paused, stopping dead in his tracks. Bumble began to grow worried as the pale tom's fur raised, and his tail bushed out. Cobweb turned his head slowly to her, his blue eyes wide and sparking with fear. "We shouldn't be here, Bumble," he whispered. He lowered himself down into a crouch position and motioned for Bumble to do the same, which of course she did, because Cobweb wouldn't do this without a reason. Bumble sniffed at the air, wondering if her friend had scented anything - and he had. There were cats nearby, and they smelled scary; there were at least two or three, she noted, and they were really close to where the two were. "What do we do, Cobweb?" Bumble asked, voice shaking, "Should we run?" If they ran, the other cats might not pick up their scent until they were too far away to chase, but if they heard them fleeing then Bumble doubted she could keep up with Cobweb on his long legs - or outrun those cats. Cobweb shook his head, and after a moment of thought he swiftly turned around and began to nudge Bumble in the direction of a nearby bush with thick, dark leaves. Yes, we'll hide here, he decided.

((Just so I'm aware, owlspots, are you near Shadow, Shrike and Xena or are you near Badger, Tawny and Mimi? I'm guessing the first three, but I wanted to be absolutely sure ^^"))

Shadow With Shrike, Xena, Bumble and Cobweb
Shadow nodded, smiling at the pair. "It's nice to meet you Shrike and Xena," He rumbled, tail flicking, "I'm Shadow." One of the tom's tattered ears flicked curiously, picking up a strange sound. Yawning, he got to his paws. "I'll be right back," He informed them, padding back in the direction he had left his hidden prey, "I left another bird behind when I came to find you, I'll pick it up and be right back."
Nodding again to the pair, Shadow slunk into the undergrowth and immediately quieted his paw-steps. He moved almost silently through the bushes and ferns, circling around where Shrike and Xena were. His eyes narrowed as a scent finally hit his nose. He frowned, and carefully moved forward, spotting two young cats trying to hide. He moved ever so slightly so that if they ran, they'd be most likely to run towards Shrike and Xena. Nodding to himself, he stepped out of the shadows. "And what," He rasped, amusement in his voice, "Are two young cats doing this far into the forest?"

Cobweb had been convinced that the bush would be the best place to hide, but at the sound of the strange cat's voice the pale tom leaped straight up into the air, every hair on his pelt on end. He pressed himself against Bumble, shrinking into the young kittypet's dark cream fur. He glanced at her quickly, then back at the enormous cat who'd just emerged from the shadows. The dark-furred cat was absolutely huge; he was bulky, muscular and covered in more battle scars than Cobweb had ever seen on any of the other cats on the streets back in the twolegplace. Cobweb felt so small and pathetic in front of the stranger, he couldn't imagine how terrified poor Bumble must be - the little she-cat had never ventured outside the twolegplace before, barely being 6 moons old, and was completely unaware of how dangerous the cats in the forest were. "W-We were just exploring," Cobweb's voice came out high-pitched, his stutter prominent, "we didn't mean to trespass on your territory, we didn't hunt or anything, we'll just leave and we'll never ever come back." He heard Bumble's petrified whimpers from beside him and he pushed himself between the frightened kit and the stranger, swallowing his own fear and forcing himself to look the tom in the eyes.

Shadow With Shrike, Xena, Bumble and Cobweb
Shadow blinked, surprised and amused at the bravery of the little tom. He chuckled, sitting down as he had before, trying to ease the two little cats. "Easy young ones," He rumbled, smiling at the pair, "I'm not going to hurt you. You're both very brave indeed to come out thing way, a lot of cats from the twoleg place are frightened of it." The bulky black tom smiled gently, tail curling around his paws. "My name is Shadow, little explorers," He introduced himself, blinking slowly, "I'm part of a group that lives around these parts. I have food nearby if you're hungry."

Bumble peered owlishly around Cobweb's flank, blinking her wide amber eyes at the large tom, who had introduced himself as Shadow. His voice now sounded a lot less frightening, and the fact that he hadn't been aggressive to them even when Cobweb had stood up to him made him seem a lot...gentler. If that was a word that could be applied to the battle-scarred, rough-looking tom at all. When he had called them brave, her chest had swollen with pride and she'd lifted her head and tail higher, eyes sparkling. She was glad they'd run into Shadow - he was nice! There were probably a lot of other, much meaner cats in the forest, maybe some who were even bigger and scarier-looking than Shadow. At the mention of food, the little tabby's stomach rumbled loudly, and she flattened her ears in embarrassment. Cobweb flashed her a glance, and Bumble shrank into a crouching position. "Actually, mister Shadow sir, I think I am hungry," she started hesitantly, "but I've never eaten forest food before - y'know, like, a real live animal. I live with my housefolk so I've never hunted, Cobweb was going to show me," she admitted. Cobweb stared at her, eyes wide. "N-No I wasn't! I told you I've caught one single bird in my entire life, and we're on someone else's territory!" He looked up at Shadow, tail-tip twitching nervously. "We weren't going to hunt, I promise." He suddenly remembered that Shadow had said something about a group of cats; he'd been so focused on scolding Bumble that he'd completely overlooked that. "Did you say a group? Like...that Clan? The cats who live close to me and Bumble have been talking about a group that's calling themselves a Clan, and they live in the forest," he informed Shadow, now a lot less tense around the older tom even if his pelt was still prickling with anxiety.

Shrike's ears pricked at the faint sound of voices. Xena looked up as well, licking her muzzle clean of bird morsels. "Are we going to stay?" she whispered.
"I don't know," Shrike admitted. "We'll see. But it's not out of the question."
"I hope we do," she said. "I like him. He's nice."
"I suppose," Shrike said noncommittally. He kept his ears open for any sign of trouble in the direction of the voices.
