((Oh, I’d be happy to interact with any of them! Are any of them in or nearby twolegplace?))

((Is the city not the same as twolegplace? Like, I know the twolegplace is more urban but I figured it was close by, or connected even? I dunno the layout entirely))

Ruby
Getting impatient, Ruby scoffed and turned around. ”Hmph! I’ll be on my way, then.”
The she-cat jumped back up onto the fence, and headed forward. Her tongue caught the unmistakable stench of monster, her ears picking up the faint sounds of honks and screeches of the giant black paws against the Thunderpath. She was near the city.
Feeling adventurous, Ruby quickened her pace along the wooden fence, which shortly turned into the wiry mesh fence. Not watching her steps, she slips on a greasy puddle along the bar and falls onto the ground with a yowl.
Ruby gets up and puffs out her fur, shaking grass and dirt off. Hopefully no one saw her clumsy tumble.

Ruby
Ruby froze, wide-eyed, at the sound of another cat’s voice. It sounded like a tom, too. She’s heard stories about city-cat toms, none of them very charming.
But those were just stories! She sat up tall as she puffed out her chest, looking for the tom. She spotted him on the pavement, and held her ground.
”That’s certainly not a nice way to greet a lady!” She flicked the tip of her tail in annoyance.

Ruby
The she-cat bristled in embarassment as she quickly began to groom herself. ”My name?” She said between quick licks, ”is Ruby.”
Finishing her cleaning, her fur now spotless and shiny, she turned to the gray tom. ”Smog? A nice name. I’d say it suits you. Where do lyou live? Do you have owners or are you a... city cat?” She tried to keep her voice steady, but the quiver in her voice at the word ‘city’ gave away her fear of the tom’s origins.

Ruby
The calico purred softly, relaxing a bit. She cocked her head to one side, a mischevious glint in her eyes. ”So, might I ask why you’re sneaking around these parts? You’re pretty far from the city.” She took her gaze off of the admittedly handsome tom to look at the giant buildings. What was it like, living there?

Ruby
She sat for a few moments, flicking her ears in thought. Eventually, she turned to Smog and shook her head. ”I’m sorry, no. If she’d been in Twolegplace, I would’ve known.”
She dragged her gaze back to the forest with a hint of a scowl on her face. ”Although, if I had to guess, she’d be trying to find shelter for her kits. Apparently there’s a ‘clan’ or something, of wild cats. I lost my siblings to them. I haven’t seen them since, and I’m starting to suspect they’re...”
Ruby felt a growl rumbling in her throat. Why should she care about Sapphire and Obsidian? All they did was abandon her. All because they wanted to live out their kithood escapades.

Ruby
”Ah, yes, of course. Speaking of which, I should probably start heading back. You can join me, if you’d like.” She doesn’t wait for a response as she begins to pad away closer to the more familiar wooden fence, flicking the tom’s ear with her tail playfully. She jumps onto the fence masterfully, and starts her leisurely walk back home.
After walking a whole two fox-lengths along, she stops and turns around. She totally forgot to make sure Smog was following her, let alone even wanting to!

((I never though fully of the layout, but since twolegplace is just a general term for any human area I was assuming it was all one town. The city could be more distinct in traffic/shopping centers/not as many homes though? So the cats can call it that to distinguish which part of the town they're in. RIP Sapphire, but someone has to die for convenience and dramatics. Also wow thanks gooseberry for having advertised the clan)) Jasmine | Shorty | Pearl with Oliver, Spirit & MimiComing to the edge of, thankfully, the only thunderpath the group would have to cross, Jasmine stopped. They answered Mimi while looking both ways for monsters, the moon being in the forest not enough to make them forget what horrors those beasts to bring. "Nature-related names, mostly. I remember my father telling me they would change names to show their status in the clan. My great-great-great grandmother had been their last deputy before the great fire either killed or scattered the clan, her name was Juniperclaw. He said she would've been Juniperstar if she'd become the leader, something they did to honor their ancestors they called Starclan." The mottled cat's green eyes were somber as they recalled the tragedy that befell the previous clan, GleamClan. Blinking the thoughts away, the cat flicked their tail as the signal to cross. They noticed that Shorty double checked before nodding and crossing with his sister. "I'll go last in case there's any trouble," they said.

Mimi, Oliver and Jasmine with Shorty, Pearl & Spirit
Mimi carefully waited for a big opening before darting across the Thunderpath. She wondered what kind of name she'd have in a clan. Would she choose it herself or would Jasmine. Her musings were interrupted as she suddenly noticed that Oliver wasn't beside her, she looked back across the path to see him standing by Spirit.
Oliver was just about to follow his mother across, when he noticed Spirit hadn't moved. He looked her over, noted the bad leg and grunted, moving to push his shoulder gently against hers to get her attention. She was a bit big for him to carry in his mouth, so the tom crouched down and motioned to his back, offering to carry the young she-cat across.

Mimi, Oliver and Jasmine with Shorty, Pearl & Spirit
Oliver purred reassuringly as he stood straight once more, wriggling slightly to make sure Spirit was in a good position. His ears perked forward as his fluffy tail stood straight in the air, obviously pleased that he was able to help. Oliver has always been a cat of few words, though he was perfectly capable of speaking. He just preferred to listen. This time however... "You're very welcome," He murmured back, soft voice pitched just loud enough for Spirit to hear and no-one else.
Satisfied that Spirit wouldn't fall off his back, the tall-legged tom nodded to Jasmine before taking his place at the edge of the Thunderpath. His bright green eyes, the same shade as his mother's, narrowed in concentration as he waited until he was absolutely sure it was safe to cross. Finally satisfied, he bounded carefully across and paused beside his mother. He tilted his head at her and Mimi chuckled, turning to smile warmly at Spirit.
"He'd like you to know that if your leg hurts at all, he'd be glad to carry you further," She explained as Oliver ducked his head shyly, glancing back at Spirit. A small sound of discontent from Oliver made Mimi hurriedly continue in voice too low for the others to hear, "Not that he thinks you're weak at all, he just wants you to know the option is open if you're in pain. He isn't sure if it hurts you or just hinders your movement."

Ruby
Oh good, he was following her. She smiled back, and turned to continue along the fence.
Eventually, they arrived at a quaint little house with homey decorations. Jumping into her back garden, the she-cat let out a growl as she bumped into an overly cheerful gnome. Ruby honestly had no clue why her housefolk were so obsessed with these weird, tiny, unmoving men.
Tidying herself, Ruby turned to Smog with a glint of pride in her eyes.”This is my den! It may seem small on the outside, but the inside is quite big and warm. My housefolk are pretty nice too, when they aren’t staring at the big moving picture screen.”

(Hi, I'd be interested in joining. This sounds really neat. I'm wondering what kind of cats you're looking for right now to balance things out? I'm considering an adorable orphan older kit/young apprentice for Jasmine to take under her wing, if that's acceptable. Could end up being medicine cat apprentice or something...if you don't already have that.)

Ruby
She glowed in the compliment, only to frown at Smog’s sad news. ”Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that! Is... is that why you’re a city-cat?” She took a few steps towards the tom, stopping only two mouse-lengths away. ”I’m sure my housefolk would be glad to take you in! If, you’re looking for a home.”
Once again, her mind wandered to her siblings. The ones who left her. For a ‘better’ life. Maybe it was better. She shook her head. No, they left her and her housefolk, and now her owners seem to not care any more. They probably wouldn’t even notice if she’d left. No,no, they would.
Brought back to reality by a growl in her stomach, Ruby blinked and turned around to the doorsteps leading to her door flap. ”There’s some food here, if you’re hungry! It’s kind of dry but it’ll do. It’s easier than catching a mouse. Unless, you prefer that? There should be one or two on the other side of my fence. That’s the perks of living next to the forest I guess!” She took a few pellets and crunched into them, their almost-meaty flavor tiptoeing across her tongue.

Obsidian
Meanwhile, in the forest, Obsidian — Ruby’s brother — began on his way to find the ‘Clan Cats’. He didn’t want to leave his makeshift nest, but he knew that he’d only meet the same fate of Sapphire’s if he lay there any longer.
Parting his jaws, the enticing scent of squirrel hit his tongue. Moments later, his eyes caught the movement of the familiar bushy tail. Crouching low, the tom put one shaky paw in front of the other.
Please, just let me have this...
He was’t quite sure who he was praying to. Maybe Sapphire, who might be watching over him? Or StarClan, the ancient colony of dead cats that inhabited the sky, the ancestors of the Clan Cats.
Whoever it was, they didn’t give their blessings of an easy catch. When Obsidian pounced, his hind leg slipped on a particularly muddy patch of ground, causing him to land awkwardly on his front paws. His left foreleg twisted a little underneath him, not enough to break, but just enough to make him yowl. Loud. Hadn’t the squirrel already run off, it definitely would have with all of the other prey scrambling to escape the vicinity of the cat.
Beaten physically, mentally, and spiritually, Obsidian curled up into a tight ball, resting his dirty tail over his muzzle as he stuck out his paw to keep pressure off of it. He closed his eyes, wishing he could go home to the safety of his housefolk’s nest, with Ruby. With Sapphire. Why did she have to die? It should have been him.

"I haven't had this sort of food in moons and moons..." He murmured. He took a few of the food pellets in his mouth, and smiled happily, feeling the memories of his kithood wash over him. No... He couldn't find it in his heart to take advantage of Ruby. She was too kind and sweet. Maybe, one day, he'd show her the city.
