That's what I was thinking too. I've got a good mentor character already made, but I may edit him a bit because I haven't used him in a while. Matthew Johnson Matthew, at 27 years of age, stands at 5'7", a little on the taller side for Rangers, but not by much. His hair is black and shaggy since he didn't really like the look of short hair on him. Claims it takes away the rugged look he's trying to achieve. Which means more times than not, he looks like a mess, especially after riding his horse. Underneath his black bangs are his bright, light blue eyes. They're strikingly light compared to his dark hair and always have a glimmer of humor in them. He claims that it does a man no good if he can't laugh at the world or find something to amuse oneself in day to day life. His attire is like every other Ranger. He normally wears grey or green tunics, brown pants, his hunting boots, and of course his grey-green cloak. Matthew is a lovable guy. He's lighthearted and adventurous, up for anything so long as it isn't too risky or completely irresponsible. The man is a thinker, preferring to think through problems than solve them with fighting, which is ironic since he's best at archery and knife throwing than in his unseen movement. His horse is a bay buckskin stallion with for white socks named Prancer.
Sallie Rou Sallie is a fair girl of 18. She’s the type of girl who turns heads wherever she goes, but not in a way you would think. For the most part, her appearance is average. Brunette hair tops her head, reaching a bit passed her shoulders. However, you will never see her wearing her hair down. She always has it pulled back into a ponytail with only her bangs hanging down over her left eye. She has a soft, round face, her nose lightly speckled with freckles, and deep-set almond brown eyes underneath think eyebrows. Well, one does at least. While the right eye still holds her natural brown coloring, the left one has long since turned milky white. The cause of this comes from the multiple scars running over her eyes, the only blemishes to be found on her face. It’s these old injuries that caused her to lose the sight of her eye when she was a child. Sallie is a soft-spoken girl but friendly and polite to all. On first impressions, one wouldn’t believe that she is a very out-spoken girl since she doesn’t often talk more than is need. Timid at first, the girl will wait until she has learned more about a person before speaking her mind in fear of causing unwanted trouble. However, once she has become friends with a person, she is no stranger to giving her opinion on a certain matter. She not an out-going person, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t like exploring every now and then, to get out of town for a while or two and leave behind the humdrum of everyday life. For the first seven years of life, Sallie had been in the care of her father. The man had problems with alcohol, and his temper was never in check. These two things combined were never good. Many times, he took out his anger on his daughter. At the age of seven, he had drank much more than he normal did, and in a fit of rage caused by some outside influence, took a broken glass bottle to her face, leaving the child with several gashes on her right eye and the eventual loss of her sight. After that night, Sallie had been taken in by her aunt while she assumed her father had been arrested and sent away.
Aseela Sharpe Tall, lean, and dark are some of the ways you could describe Aseela. Standing around 5'12", the 24 year old usually towers over many people, especially other women. She is lean and lithe, born with a more athletic look with soft curves. Black hair is pulled into a messy braid that hands down to her mid-back, her bangs falling in front of her chocolate brown eyes. Both hair and eyes compliment her bronze skin tone lovely in a simple way. She uses little make-up like many women of higher status do, but more often than not, she likes to keep her eyelashes dyed black. Aseela is a sharp-witted woman. Give her any negotiation, and she can talk circles around the best lawyer you place in front of her. The woman is calm and collected in everything she does, finding a joy in how people struggle to gain an upper hand with her. She is proud to be a force to be reckoned with, but that didn't mean she didn't have her share of problems gaining such skills. Her way with words has helped her gain a position as a Courier. Aseela is a loyal friend, offering help in any way she can. While not the most intimidating figure, the woman isn't afraid go straighten someone out if they have wronged a friend. And even if she doesn't, the suggestion is sometimes all it takes to cheer someone up, which was all she is after. Aseela was born in Arrida. When she was 18, she meet a young knight traveling with a delegation from Araluen for a renewal of trade agreements. While there, the two of them fell in love. Long story short, within the month that the delegation was there, experiencing some setbacks from within the government they hadn't foreseen, the two were married. She traveled back with to Araluen, settling down in Redmont with her husband. During the first year, she was approached with the offer of learning to be a Courier. While she was a bit old to begin apprenticeship, she happily agreed.
(I'll add the rest of my characters to this post, or my first one, just to give us a place to easily find everyone if we ever need to look up something.)

How old is he?
(Also, would you prefer for his apprentice to be a guy or girl? I don't really care, but I didn't know if you had a particular thing in mind?)

Lol, oops, forget to add that. I plan on him to be around 27, 28 maybe. He's still new to being a full fledged Ranger, but not too new that he wouldn't be up for taking on an apprentice. As for his apprentice, that I don't really care. It's up to you. I figured we'd be having a couple of female Rangers thrown in, not many but proof that girls are able to be great Rangers, so you can either have your apprentice be the girl, or have her more Matthew's age and be a full Ranger. Or you can have your girl be anything. Doesn't matter. XD We'll make things work. All I know is, my female character will be 18 and not a Ranger, if that'll help your decision making.

Tristan Avery Tristan is quite strong for his age and size, being only 17 and standing at a 5'8", he has a trim and muscular build, without being too heavy or bulky. He has ashy brown hair that he keeps on the shorter side, standing only an inch or two off his head. His face is angular and tanned, with thick brows and deep set hazel eyes. Since he is young, he can't grow much of a beard yet, but he usually has a bit stubble on his face. Though he is a bit tall for a ranger, he is an expert at being unseen and going unnoticed. There is nothing particularly remarkable about him that would draw attention. Tristan excels at hand-to-hand combat, and has been known to get in a fight or two due to his short temper and impulsive personality. Though he doesn't like to talk much, he has no problem intervening, but he tends to hit first and ask questions later (his mentor is working with him on this). He doesn't think through his actions much, and often regrets his decisions since he makes them on a whim. He has a grey mare named Rynn. Cariba Andrews Cariba has pale blonde hair that she keeps in a long braid down her back, with small pieces framing her small face. She is 24 years old and is only 5'4", so she is very good at slipping in and out of crowds unnoticed. The dainty girl has large brown eyes and a small nose and mouth, with skin that is tan and freckled. Though she could be considered pretty, her size and face give her a bit of a child like appearance, that garners little attention from those who see her. Therefore, Cariba uses her innocent appearance to her advantage. The female ranger is also very flexible and nimble, and is known for her ability to climb rapidly into the tallest of trees, with her sleight weight and build allowing her to go higher than most. Weapons wise, she prefers to use her daggers, and is a skilled knife thrower. She has a feisty and playful personality, and has been known to play a prank or two. She has a bay gelding named Lex with a star on his forehead and a single sock on his rear left leg. Finnick Sharpe 29 years old, 6'2", WIP Serena Caboro 19, 5'7", daughter of Witby's baron

(Okay, great! and I'll have another character up soon.)
Matthew stood on the veranda of his cabin, mug of freshly made coffee in his hand. The sun was just rising in behind the trees, and the mid-summer morning air as delightfully cool. Later, the heat would be out in full force, but right now it felt nice. The man always had a habit of waking early to enjoy the first few moments of the day to himself. With as hectic of a life he led, it was always nice to appreciate the peacefulness of his home when he had the chance. It did a person good.
Draining the last of his drink before all the warmth left it, the Ranger signed. Yes, there was no better way to enjoy the morning. But now, with his coffee gone and the color of the sky turning from indigo to orange, it was time to get to work. He turned and entered the little cabin, heading over to the second bedroom door. "Wake up, buttercup," he called to Tristan, and thus had been his morning greeting for the past few years. Why? Because he could and found it highly amusing. "We've got a busy day, and it's your turn to make breakfast. I'm hungry, so you should hurry up."

(OK! And if you want, I can make third character as well to balance it out :) )
Tristan had been sleeping peacefully when he heard his mentor's voice pierce the still quiet of his bedroom. Groaning slightly, he half mumbled, "Be out in a second," and sleepily sat up, swinging his legs over the side of the bed. Running a hand through his hair, he took a deep breath before standing. Blinking away the sleep, he quickly dressed himself and then slipped out of his small bedroom.
"Morning," He murmured to Matthew as he walked out, making his way to the stove to cook up some breakfast for the he and his mentor. "Hungry for anything in particular?" He asked, before his eyes caught sight of the empty coffee can that sat on the wooden counter. "Didn't want to save anything for me?" he quipped, slightly annoyed. "There are two people living here, you know," he added sarcastically, looking over his shoulder to wink at Matthew.

(DAAAAAANNNGGGG! Tristan looks good. XD)
Matthew sat at the kitchen table, nursing a second mug of coffee as if patiently waiting for his breakfast to be served. Ah, the joy of having an apprentice: he didn't have to do all the chores himself. Of course, the man didn't care if he had help or did them himself. He wasn't that lazy of a man. Still, he enjoyed the days he could sit back and just watch his apprentice do the work for him. With Tristan around, he knew what his own mentor felt like during his own apprentice days.
"Oh, you wanted some?" Matthew asked, purposefully taking a sip of his coffee. This batch had just about gone cold anyway, so he had doubted the boy would have wanted it. "I suppose you're right. I don't know how I missed the giant bear sleeping in the other room." The Ranger stood and moved to refill the coffee can. "You know, if you learn to get up earlier, you wouldn't be wasting so much coffee."
(I also had an idea about Matthew and Cariba's relationship, but I wanted to run it by you first. I was thinking they could have a sort of Jenny/Gilian type relationship where it's clear they like and care for each other a lot, but they just haven't gotten married yet because of their jobs. Like, they would have been apprentices at the same time, they've had time to become close friends, maybe even gone on a mission or two together. Everyone knows they've been on a date or two whenever they're together, but neither one of them wants to ask the other to give up their fief just so they can marry and settle down together. But that doesn't stop Matthew from bringing up the topic often when he visits her. Like "I know the answer will be no, but maybe if I keep asking her, she'll at least agree to marry me if nothing else." XD If that's not what you want to have, then I completely understand. I was just thinking that'd be funny.)

“Yeah, yeah. I just need my beauty sleep,” he joked before getting to work scrambling some eggs, adding in some vegetables from the small garden they kept outside their small house, making two medium sized omelets for the two men to eat. As they cooked, he got to work making himself some coffee. Once the eggs were finished,, the apprentice slipped them onto two plates and carried them to the table where Matthew sat. “There you go,” he said as he slid his mentor’s plate to him then went and poured himself some piping hot coffee. Sitting down and beginning to eat, he looked back up to the older ranger. “So, what’s on the agenda for today?”

"I think it's going to take more than just sleep," Matthew commented in good fun. Tristan was a fine young man, one who he had seen several girls turn to watch as he walked by. He knew that the young boy needed no help in that department. But he was his mentor: he was to teach him the ways of stealth and bow, not inflate his ego. When the plate of food was finally in front of him, he picked up his fork and dug in eagerly.
"Well," he replied, swallowing the mouthful of food, "first we need to get the horses packed. Then we're heading into town to get several things that I've been putting off until now. We need to drop off one of Prancer's bridles at the blacksmith to fix, trouble Miss Sallie," who was the local seamstress's niece and was just as good in the trade as anyone, "for some new clothes - yours are beginning to look thread bare. Then we head over to the castle to report that'll we'll be gone for a week or so."

Tristan rolled his eyes playfully at his mentor and spooned the last of his omelet into his mouth then downed his coffee in one gulp. Nodding as Matthew told him the plans for the day, a small spark of excitement arose in him as he realized he would get to see Sallie today. He had known the girl for years and they were good friends. They had grown apart a bit once he had become a ranger's apprentice, but he still got to see her every so often. Smirking at his mentor, he joshed, "My clothes are threadbare? You should see yours!" before asking, "Gone for a week? Where are we going?" The idea of getting to do something other than chores and routine practicing intrigued the young ranger.

Tristan simply chuckled as he cleared his plate. Matthew always had to comment about the way the apprentice ate. He simply didn't like to waste time! Listening as his mentor explained their trip, he smirked to himself. "Ahh we are going to see Cariba, eh? You were always eager to give her a hand," he teased, looking over his shoulder at Matthew. The poor man had been pinning after the female ranger for years, and everyone knew it.

"She's going to say yes eventually," Matthew defended. He didn't keep it a secret that he was interested in marrying Cariba. The two of them were good friends, and his marriage proposals were all in good fun between them. Yes, he wanted nothing more than to have her as his wife, but the man also wouldn't ask the woman to give up the job they both have worked so hard to get. He wasn't the type to dictate the actions of others. Besides, he knew Cariba would never be happy being stuck at home. He wouldn't if she asked him to give up his position as a Ranger. So the two of them simply played a game of chase and and stolen moments whenever they could. He waved a hand in dismissal. "Besides, that's not the only reason. It seems the group is larger than she had thought. She's manage to arrest several of the men, but the attacks keep happening, in multiple places. She's request for us to see if we can't help her cover some ground in the search. Redmont is a big fief after all."
(Finally finished my third character! ^^ I'm going to make another guy too, just so I'll have him and keep everything equal. I probably won't use him right away, but if we ever need him, he'll be there. XD)
