Azariah knew that he had some form of naivety.
This wasn't something that he'd ever deny. No matter what had happened in his life he still had it in his head that things would work out. Sure, he had been captured by some pirate, but he'd always planned on escaping and he did. When he was alone on the streets he dreamt of finding someone to work with so he wasn't so alone, when he went to bed hungry he made plans to be better and smarter the next time. For Azariah everything seemed to work out.
Maybe that was why he was thinking so clearly in this moment. Sure, his heart was beating so hard that it hurt, his throat was tightening to the point that he felt like he couldn't breath but he could still think clearly. It was why he'd sent out some warning sparks, the only sign that there was something wrong. He hoped that Akumu had noticed that there was something wrong when he hadn't set the skies on fire but he wanted to give his partner one last chance to actually get out of here and come back with some kind of help.
He didn't mind the fierce hit to the back of his head, the only indicator of his pain was a slight gritting of his teeth, tears watering his eyes for a moment before he blinked them away and tilted his head up proudly. His eyes were trained on the sky momentarily, stomach twisting at the thought of how horribly wrong this was, wishing that he could turn back time and see this coming. Azariah couldn't help but wonder what would have happened if he not only listened to Akumus anxieties but voiced his own as well... this entire plan had been sketchy to begin with and Azariah had been too proud to admit it.
Maybe the auburn haired man had gotten a little greedy, or perhaps desperate, the sound of that much money literally making his eyes water. It didn't matter that he had taken one look at the money and realized they could live comfortably, they would have still lived with what they made on lesser jobs, and now he was wondering why he hadn't voiced his own concerns about this.
Because now he was having to deal with the consequences and he just hoped that Akumus escape plan had to do with him getting Azariah out now and not later while he was in jail. He stared at the brilliant colors of the setting sun until his eyes started to burn and he closed his eyes, trying to imagine what this would have been like if it hadn't been a trap, the sky would have been alight with fire. The warehouses would be singed and the sky would be thick with smoke, only colored by the random flashes of fire that he created, practically using the air as his own canvas.
The thought of this calmed him for a few moments and he had zoned out, the commanders voice blurring into the background so he didn't hear him much, allowing his body to relax as he opened his eyes slowly. He had to think about this rationally. This was clearly a set up, there wasn't anyway that this many armed men could be here if this wasn't a plan, and as terrifying as the situation was he couldn't help but be a little flattered at how many people were here with guns trained on him. Sixty...seventy... hell, even eighty but from where he was kneeling he couldn't actually get a good count of how many were here.
Either way... there weren't many people who had control of this many people who knew how to actually contact ShadowFire and Jack. He had a sneaking suspicion of who, though, although he was reluctant to admit that it could actually be the man he'd had in mind. It made sense, it was someone who had a massive group of men and someone who had knowledge of were the captain of the Blackwaters Cutlass was...
Which meant his best bet was that this was Captain Fates doing.
The Flame had to bite his tongue at that, refraining from the long string of swear words that was just begging to fall from his tongue, holding his breath as he thought of the repercussions of getting on the mans bad side. Both he and Akumu were painfully aware of Captain Fates reputation. He was influential, that much was clear, and could either make someone incredibly well off or make their life a total living hell.
You can guess which side the Shadow and Flame were on.
Technically it was their fault. They hadn't messed with the captain once, no, the Captain had been the center of at least a couple of their plots and indirectly affected in more than he was willing to count. The worst one, the one that had gotten themselves on the Captains kill list, had been when they tied him up and poured fish guts on the poor guy while stealing his coin... Which in retrospect was a little overboard.
"- You are under arrest..." The voice faded out once more as the auburn haired man finally dropped his head, staring into a crowd of people, breath catching when he met the cold gaze of someone that was all-too familiar. He could barely make the man out, hidden within the chaos, and his eyes widened just enough to show him how scared Azariah was.
Akumu was most likely the only one he'd be willing to show these emotions to and he needed the other to know how much he needed the Shadow right now. For a millisecond he'd thought that the man was going to swoop down, save him, and they'd some how ride off in the sunset. He couldn't help but wish that they could pull something flashy off, like he'd somehow be able to light the gun powder in all of the guns, creating a glorious explosion as the Shadow grabbed him and drug him away from the scene of the crime. Or... maybe Akumu would use his shadows to make something terrifying and distract the men long enough for him to run away.
But those were only dreams that he thought up as he stared desperately at someone he considered his best friends. He knew that Akumu would never do anything that risky, he had never been the type to be totally offensive, and Azariah doubted that Akumu would change his tactics just to save someone he still shot annoyed glances to more often than not. Sure their dynamics had changed lately, leaving Azariah confused as to where they stood as they shared quick kisses and a handful of tender moments, but he didn't think that he had enough influence to actually change the mans tactics altogether.
So he hadn't been surprised when the cold, unreadable, stare finally left him as Akumu turned his back to the captured man. Within a blink of an eye his partner in crime was once more hidden in the realm of the Shadow realm, leaving Azariah feeling incredibly alone and perhaps a bit betrayed. He'd been so distracted by his friend that he'd hardly processed the fact that handcuffs had been lashed onto his wrists too tight and only figured out things were going downhill when he was jerked roughly upwards.
"Looks like the end of the road for you, scum," Spat his captor with so much glee that Azariah had to stop once more to try and think of what he had done to make the man so happy to do his job. Maybe he'd stolen something of his before, kidnapped a family member maybe? Right now the Flame didn't care, instead he kept his eyes trained on the horizon, waiting for any hint of his escape.
(Sorry, there's been some family stuff going on and I haven't been on long enough to write out a long, thought out reply for this. )

Akumu ❝ nothing ventured, nothing gained. ❞ ─ kaede akiba ─ Brown eyes set hard as stone and cold as ice, the man known as the Shadow was not a happy one. Panic clawed at his chest, desperation filling his head with irrational thoughts. His partner was gone, Azariah was gone, he had been taken. Sure, this had happened a few times, but nothing to this degree. A frustrated sound came from him, a hushed cry out as his hand balled into a fist and punched the wall next to him, the shadows moving and changing with his emotions.
"We are going back," he stated to the four others in the room with him. He was quick to at least get them away from any chance of being captured. The cutlass was torn from his side, thrown to the ground and consumed by the shadows, disappearing to a place that only one person could get to. "Azariah was taken in by Captain Fate himself." Not the easiest job that they've ever done. In fact, it seemed almost a bit impossible.
"You realize that he's the Captain of Blackwater, right?" Astrid stated, loading her pistols, her long blonde hair up in a tight ponytail, he braid tucked back into it. "Ain't gonna be easy blowin' him outta their reach." As Akumu opened his mouth, she gave him a smirk, her green eyes lighting up as she twirled her pistols around and put them into their holsters. "Sounds like a plan. Let's do the impossible." She was on board. Good.
Jason was already getting his rifle cleaned, the knives hidden in his sleeves, in his boots. Kane gave a hearty laugh, his mammoth hand clapping on the Shadow's shoulder, Cam sharing a sympathizing glance as to know how that felt with all his armor on.
"We are to rescue our friend!" the old man boomed. "Nothing will stand in our way." His accent was think from Sylvia, but it only made his character more... alive.
Cam's nose scrunched up, pushing up his glasses. "Well, technically there are only five of us and there's hundred of them, the odds of us surviving this sort of plan is extremely low." All eyes turned to him and a pink blush came to his cheeks with a shy look. He gave a small little shrug and chuckle. "B-But! We've faced worse odds before." That was the spirit that the other three wanted to hear.
Akumu took in a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart that ached. A wary glance went out of the window, down to the docks below. Closing his eyes, he willed to look through the shadows, reaching out to every dark place he could until he found a particularly familiar shadow. He was being walked away, handcuffed. There was going to be no escape through his magic, those things weren't going to let him.
Please, you flaming fool, he willed softly, watching him, memorizing his face, even if only for a little longer. Do not do anything stupid. We will come for you. Brown eyes opened to glance at his team, all of which were prepared.
"We cannot go tonight," Akumu stated, watching out the window to the many ships at the docks. "They are expecting us. We will go tomorrow. At noon, between the guard cycle. They will expect us in the morning, in the evening and at night. We must go when they do not believe a shadow is cast." Fierce green eyes looked at him in disbelief at such a statement.
"Are you nuts? You don't have shadows in broad daylight! And just about everyone can see us!" Astrid hissed. He walked up to him, her boots stomping on the wooden floor, pointing out to the bay. "Your best friend and partner is out there! They might kill him for what you both did! You can't fight in the middle of the day!" His eyes held her flaming one, his cold stare winning after a stare off.
"A-Actually, while the shadows have less mass, they seem to be d-darker in the pl-pl-plain daylight, especially at n-n-noon." Cam spoke up, fidgeting a bit as he cleaned his sword, polishing it and caring for it carefully.
Jason's rifle clicked as he moved his rifle onto his shoulder. "I don't think this is your best plan, but if there's gonna be less guards, it'll be easier to take 'em out, get the flame ass and get the hell outta dodge." His weight shifted as he leaned against the table, bullets and artillery galore upon its top.
He was listening, he was watching. Akumu didn't want to let him know that they were coming, however. The less he knew, the better it'd be. While he trusted his friend with a lot, he didn't trust him with his own life, so if he knew he was escaping, he could easily mess up. And he didn't want that, he didn't want to see him die.
Silence flowed through the room, tension building as everyone waited for the Shadow to speak. All he did, however, was just stare out the window, watching with his hands behind his back, jaw tight and eyes filled with anger and bitterness.
How could he have let this happen? He knew that something was wrong with this! He knew that this was going to go wrong. He could feel it in the shadows! Why didn't he just call it off? Was his greed too much? It had gotten his partner captured.
Listen. Watch. See what they are going to do with him, he told himself as he closed his eyes once more and looked through the shadows, going down to the ships of where Azariah would be kept.
"Oi, what'cha want with that scum, boss?" a voice asked. "Lock 'im up on the Grand Mist." a gruffer voice stated. "Cap'in ain't decided if 'e wants 'im dead or locked up forever." "Yes, sir."
They would not kill him tonight. He had time to plan, to watch, to calculate. He would get him out of their hands. That was for sure. Akumu let out a soft sigh and turned to the four in the room, looking at him, waiting for him.
"Well?" Astrid asked.
"They will not kill him tonight," the Shadow informed. "But they might soon. We need to act as soon as we know their cycle. It will take me a day. If plans change, we will act based on that. But not a moment sooner."
Hold on, you fool. We are coming.
