I'd love to join, but how active would I need to be? Is this a daily/weekly thing?

I'd love to join, but how active would I need to be? Is this a daily/weekly thing? As active as you're able to be. Preferably weekly. I just meant that I'm not going to put in the work if someone decides to go missing for a month, ya know? I'm willing to work with you on a schedule

Arrow here, previously known as your neighborhood Icedheart. I used to do HTML layouts and graphics, but the switch to BB code completely threw me off. So now I'm here to start from scratch and hopefully learn some more advanced coding. I look forward to working with you all!

prophet Alrighty, here's my first attempt at coding since the beginning of this year. Question: How do you use images as backgrounds and is there any way to integrate Google fonts? {Banner} {Title}

Arrow↠Deirdre Stylistically, I recommend taking out the curly brackets, but, I mean, it's my opinion. Also try using forum fonts to spice your layout up. Do you know how to bbcode them?
Images are really simple to use for a background. First, you'll need to write the background tag:
[div style="background:
then add "img" and the url()
like so: [div style="background-img:url(inserturlhere.jpg)
The catch is that you can only use online images since it's bbcode and not html. If you have a dA or imgur, I use those to upload images my files to give them urls

prophet alrighty! this is the only coding i have attempted so far, since i usually fail miserably xD
Character Names - - - Insert Name
- Insert Name
- Insert Name
[/ul] Character Forms - - [ Name ] age ; gender ; rank
{ one line description of your character ; hair color, eye color, height }screennameCharacter Templates - - [Insert Templates Here][/spoiler][/font][/div][/div][/div]

ʙᴜᴍʙʟᴇʙᴇᴇ » That's fine! It's really good so far. So, adding a background would be the next step!
So, in all bbcode and html coding, a background is called a div, which is short for division (since it creates a division in the page, so to speak)
the coding looks like this (I'll keep out the second bracket so that you can see it):
[div
now you need the "style" like so:
[div style="
using "style" is easier so always use style Next, you need to tell the coding what to do:
[div style="background:
now the computer knows you want to divide "div" the page and make a background to it. This is where your (or someone else's) aethestic can come in. The first question is whether you want a transparent background or a solid color like "black."
I'd like you to try it and fill in a color, you may use any color you want

prophet so, like this?
Character Names - - - Insert Name
- Insert Name
- Insert Name
[/ul] Character Forms - - [ Name ] age ; gender ; rank
{ one line description of your character ; hair color, eye color, height }screennameCharacter Templates - - [Insert Templates Here][/div][/spoiler][/font][/div][/div][/div]

ʙᴜᴍʙʟᴇʙᴇᴇ » Yes! Exactly! Good job~
Now, my first advice is to bookmark color hex, a website where you can find any color you like! Hex codes will make your life easier, trust me. I know you already knew about them thanks to your form, but now you'll need to use them all the time xD
Go to the website and type in the search bar: #800000 This is so you can take a look at how the website works.
Take the div you just did and use one of the complimentary colors for your background

prophet i hope you meant to change the color
Character Names - - - Insert Name
- Insert Name

[/ul] Character Forms - - [ Name ] age ; gender ; rank
{ one line description of your character ; hair color, eye color, height }screennameCharacter Templates - - [Insert Templates Here][/div][/spoiler][/font][/div][/div][/div]

ʙᴜᴍʙʟᴇʙᴇᴇ » Yeah, lol. That website is really handy!
So now I guess is the next step. (You can change the background color if you'd like.)
Make all the text light purple (using hex) and change the font to "crimson text;" try using code to do so, but using the tools are fine if you don't know how

ʙᴜᴍʙʟᴇʙᴇᴇ » Ok, that was just to see how you went about doing it. The next thing to learn is how to clean your coding.
Clean coding is essential! If nothing else, your code needs to be clean. Your code is good, but messy.
I want you to start from scratch this time, recreating the code you already have, but there are some new rules!
1) no using the tool bar to help you, no looking up any coding! hex codes must come from that website 2) all colors must be hex; you may use up to five different colors, however you see fit 3) all "font" needs to be a style; example: [font style="color:#000000; 4) all text must be on the left; no using justify, right, or center! 5) all headers must be two sizes bigger than the other text 6) feel free to play around with anything else
Feel free to ask questions if you get stuck

prophet Yeah, I will take out the curly brackets once I have proper graphics made xD Those are just placeholders for now. And yup, I can use forum fonts. I was just curious about the Google fonts because I've seen codes that somehow tie them in xD. I may be thinking of HMTL though. Okay, so like this for the background? the image isn't seamless but I don't have the time to find one Testing Okay, this is awesome. Thank you

Arrow↠Deirdre I see, so you plan to make graphics for the headers. Ok!
Simple, huh? Now try a gif! Same code, but with a gif instead. All you need to do is find one through giphy (or some other site), and copy and paste!
Once you have a gif, I'd like you to try making a banner of sorts. I'd like the text to say:
BANNER an example
with the gif background, make it have a dashed border, 7pt, #000000 use #484141 for "banner" and #fffff for "an example" "banner" should be the "bungee" font (I forgot the full name) and "an example" should be "dawning of a new day" "banner" should be 18pt "an example" should be 12pt
(I'm going to bed for the night, so take your time!)

ʙᴜᴍʙʟᴇʙᴇᴇ » So the reason it doesn't turn out is surprisingly simple. You really only need to put in the font code once. This is what you did:
[font style="color:#ffdfab;"]Character Names - -]/font]
[font style="color:#fff8b7;"][ul type="disc"] [li]Insert Name[/li] [li]Insert Name[/li] [li]Insert Name[/li] [/ul][/font]
[font style="color:#ffdfab;"]Character Forms - -[/font]
Here's what you should focus on doing: [font style="color:#ffdfab;face:crimson text;size:3"]Character Names - -
[ul type="disc"] [li]Insert Name[/li] [li]Insert Name[/li] [li]Insert Name[/li] [/ul]
Character Forms - -[/font] Character Names - -
- Insert Name
- Insert Name
- Insert Name
Character Forms - -See what I mean?

Post by prophet on Sept 4, 2018 13:06:19 GMT -5
Sparkly The reason it doesn't turn out is because bbcode is very simple and doesn't allow many of the things you see in html.
you did this:
[h1]My First Heading[/h1] [p]My first paragraph[/p]
when you should do this:
[font size="4"]Heading[/font] [font size="2"]Paragraph[/font]
Heading Paragraph
In bbc, you have to rely on what it looks like more than the actual coding part, if that makes sense. I'd like you to try adding color to the text without the toolbar. Your hint is: color="" The color I'd like you to use is black

Arrow↠Deirdre Very good. I like that gif, lol.
I see that you kept your code clean, but not more concisely:
[div align="center"][div style="background-image:url(https://media.giphy.com/media/Sb9XUx3OOl4GreIHT3/giphy.gif);height:auto;width:450px;padding-top:20px;padding-bottom:20px;border-radius:10px;border:7px dashed #000000;"][font color="#484141"][font][font size="18pt" face="Bungee Hairline"]Banner [/font] [/font][font color="#fffff" size="12pt" face="Dawning of a New Day"]An example[/font][/font][/div] [/div][/div]
It should've looked like this:
[div align="center"][div style="background-image:url(https://media.giphy.com/media/Sb9XUx3OOl4GreIHT3/giphy.gif);height:auto;width:450px;padding-top:20px;padding-bottom:20px;border-radius:10px;border:7px dashed #000000;"][font style="color:#484141;size:18pt;" face="Bungee Hairline"]Banner [/font] [font size="12pt" color="#fffff" face="Dawning of a New Day"]An example[/font][/div] [/div][/font][/div]
But I think the whole thing is too small, so what do you think we should do to fix it?
