(How about we change things up a bit? Maybe thrushstar was given the choice to save Squirrelstar from the badger but he chose not to because he thought there was no hope for him. This could fit with what Lilystem thought at the time.
Also, we can say that squirrelblaze and mooseheart do not have healthiest views after their troubling kithood. Maybe they truly believe that Angelwing was acting what he thought was best.)

Thrushstar and Lilystem both receive dreams from StarClan, warning them that a huge fire will decimate the territories, and they must flee immediately. Both cats awake, and whilst Thrushstar warns the Clan, Lilystem goes to warn IvyClan, MintClan, (I forgot this one. We have too many Clans, LOL.), CherryClan, and OakClan, only to discover that they were warned, too. As the six Clans flee their territories, the forest is set alight behind them, and they all manage to flee the roaring flames - not realising that the blaze is chasing after them...

With no queens or elders, the AppleClan cats quickly flee from their former territory with IvyClan, OakClan, MintClan, and HollyClan.
The fire seems to stop at the very beginning of their territory, setting it alight.
There are tortured screams and smells of burnt fur as the cats of CherryClan, a false Clan as it had always had been die from the flames.
Every hair on their pelt urges the warriors to go after these hurt cats, but the fire has spread too quickly and too fast.
The HollyClan leader, Falconstar, then says after moonhigh to the other leaders that this is a sign to return to their former home, the drowned territories. That are probably not as frowned anymore.
(Aka the better territories where there were better borders!)

The Clans begin the harsh trek back, leaving the territory they have known to the former territories of the forest. Once they made this journey as four Clans, now they are five, as OakClan is no longer entangled with AppleClan, as it had once been. The MintClan leader scoffs that AppleClan always seems to lose its leaders at the worst times, referencing the tales that AppleClan’s leader on the start of their journey all of those seasons ago, Ashstar, had died relatively early on. Unaware of their fates, AppleClan, HollyClan, IvyClan, MintClan, and OakClan run into the homes of a deadly group of rogues. The five Clans are all but decimated in their sleep, leaving but a few straggling survivors, ones who are tasked with rebuilding their Clan from the ground up...
Moons later, Mooseheart and Morningpaw stand triumphant in AppleClan's previous camp, only for a figure to limp out of the shadows - Squirrelblaze. Exhausted, Mooseheart doesn't question his brother's mysterious reappearance - only welcomes him back to AppleClan. The three cats appoint themselves leader, deputy, and medicine cat, and set to rebuilding the Clan from only memories of it's former glory.

Many AppleClan cats eventually re-join the others in AppleClan’s old camp before the dreaded floods, long since they were born. They had been able to recover but their journey had been much slower due to the larger numbers, Rookheart and Riverleap are among them, retaking their places as leader and deputy respectively. With the guidance of StarClan, it is not long before Rookheart receives his nine lives and the five Clans once again take their places in their true homes. (I was hoping for long journey, like last time, because that was fun!
And had a lot of desperation, death, random rogues and stuff. Along with random dropping off could be a possibility. But having a quick trek back is fine, I suppose, saves time.)

(Also since we’re in old territory now. HollyClan and OakClan are the nearest borders to AppleClan’s true home. MintClan territory also touches AppleClan’s but it’s not that big of a deal, while IvyClan has the farthest border but is still relatively close to its neighboring Clans, MintClan and HollyClan.)

As the entire clan had not been born in these lands, it takes them some time to settle properly. They begin to clear paths and dangerous terrain from their territory, things such as moving fallen branches or making paths through the thistles. The effort is led by Mooseheart who seems to really enjoy rebuilding the camp.
