The Clan is attacked by a rival Clan, who blames them for the mysterious attacks. Sparkpaw is killed, and Rowanstar loses a life. Squirrelheart blames Fuzzymask for the murders, and attacks him. Fuzzymask accidentally kills him, and despite Rowanstar understanding it was for self-defense, he is guilt-stricken and feeds himself deathberries. Falcon gives birth to two kits, one of whom unfortunately dies soon after.

Mooseleaf passes away in his sleep. That night, the brothers, along with Redpelt, visits Angelwing in his sleep, telling him that the group's story is coming to a close. They ask him to take care of Leafwhisper and her kits, as they will be Rowanstar's grandkits, and Angelwing and Squirrelheart's great-grandkits. Apparently, as long as the lineage continues, the Clan will be safe from The Dark Ones. Angelwing awakes, wondering if the attack that caused Redpelt's death was caused by Leafwhisper being unsafe.
