The rogue that killed the former medicine cat reveals herself to be Serenewind's daughter. The rogue, named Night, reveals that when Serenewind went missing from the clan many moons ago it was to have her and her siblings with her rogue mate. Serenewind ended up breaking it off with her mate and returned to the clan, but she left Night and her siblings behind to die. Night survived, as did the rest of her litter mates, but Night demanded vengeance. And after hunting her down day and night, Night was finally able to exact her revenge. Songstar attempts to send a patrol after the murderess but Night escapes them.

Songstar launches a sudden attack on the rogues, intending more so to rescue her warriors then to finish the rogues off. During the process of the battle Night kills Flowerspark so the warrior doesn’t try to persuade anyone else on abandoning her cause. Enraged Pineshadow attacks Night, there is no definite winner of the attack as Pineshadow and Night both end up dead at each other’s claws, the rogues scatter in confusion. Songstar lost a life during the battle and Mooseleaf was killed, when the cats arrive back at camp, it is discovered that Angelwing was blinded by a rogue.
