Jasminefoot looked up at Deerleg, her whole body shivering in shock at what she had witnessed. Nodding slowly to Deerleg, she rose to shaky paws and padded back to the nursery, leaning on him for support in case she actually did feint.

Carefully, Deerleg supported the queen back towards the nursery. He was worried for her, and his whole Clan. Skystar didn't give any details when they left. Maybe they didn't expect to find anything, he thought. Apparently, they had, and it was in the form of Paintpaw's injured body. The rest of the patrol must have stayed behind...? His pelt tingled at the scary thought of his clanmates facing a fox. Worriedly, he clenched his jaw, hoping that they would all be alright.

As Hawkjaw distracted the second one, Skystar remained focused on the first fox. He decided to continue biting and swiping at its face and front legs, so it would continue to expect frontal and low-leveled attacks. After having it trained with his moves, he leaped above for it, biting into its shoulders and neck. It yelped, bucking, trying to throw him off. He griped tightly into the fur and flesh of the fox's back, trying to prevent from sliding off. He felt the air be shoved out of him as the fox fell to its side, nearly crushing Skystar. He let go in the brief moment, and before he could gather himself, the fox turned, snarling, biting at the tom. It bit down on his flank as Skystar turned to face it, and he yowled in pain. Swiping at the fox's eyes, it released him. He stood back as the creature tried to clear its vision, his sides heaving and hot. Hawkjaw heard Skystar's yowl of pain and turned with frightened eyes towards his leader. In his moment of distraction, the smaller fox raced toward Hawkjaw with snapping teeth. Hawkjaw was too slow to the defense and the fox sunk its teeth into Hawkjaw's shoulder. He let out a yowl of pain and thrashed with his front and back paws wildly, getting in several blows to the fox's eyes before the fox let out a howl of pain and dropped Hawkjaw. The cat hit the ground with strong paws, and only had time to glance at his now gashed and badly bleeding shoulder before leaping. He launched himself to the face of the fox and sank his claws into the back of the fox's ears and raked his claws into the eyes of the fox before feeling the fox's eye beneath his right paw. One gash is all it will take! He encouraged himself. One rake with his claws and the fox whimpered loudly in pain, swiftly banging its head tinto the ground. Hawkjaw was thrown off by the force the fox's face hit the ground, but when the fox raised its muzzle back up Hawkjaw saw he had taken out the fox's eye.

Skystar could see his deputy's injury clearly. The both of them were getting weaker, and Skystar had already sent Smokefur and Softlight off, and Beetlewing had left with Paintpaw. He faced the two foxes again, worry now visible in his eyes. He thought over what he could do. Was it best to make them flee, or should they try to end this? He thought of Paintpaw, and how the she-cat barely clung to life. His pelt burned with rage, and he lunged at the first fox, a screech escaping his lungs. Fury fired out through the ends of each hair on his pelt as he caught the fox by surprise. He tore into its foreleg, and as it tore through the air with its cry of pain, he climbed up towards its back, digging into its shoulders, grabbing a hold with his paws. He dug his teeth deep into the fox's neck, as far as he could, and tore out what he had bitten down upon. The fox fell limp onto the ground, Skystar falling along with it. They both hit the rocky surface with a thud, the fox no longer breathing. Weakly, Skystar stumbled back to his paws.

"Help Flightpaw apply pressure," Dreamwave instructed. She looked around for a brief moment, shook her head slightly, and focused once again on Paintpaw. "Have you seen Bluepool?" she asked her daughter. She began to apply more cobwebs into Paintpaw's wounds after she had smeared the poultice around that Robinwhisper had made of the goldenrod.

They both hit the rocky surface with a thud, the fox no longer breathing. Weakly, Skystar stumbled back to his paws. Hawkjaw stared in awe at the dead fox, then focused all his attention on the second fox. The gaping hole where its eye had once been was bleeding profusely. Fighting tactics swirled through his head, and he knew it was time to finish this fox off for the wellbeing of his clan. A defiant yowl left his jaws as he once again charged towards the fox, rounding from the right side of its body where it couldn't see him. Weaving between the fox's front and back leg, Hawkjaw unsheathed his front claws and scathed the right flank of the fox as deep as he could. Fresh blood came to the surface of the fox's red pelt before the fox had recognized Hawkjaw was upon it. Swiftly, Hawkjaw skid beneath the fox, coming out on the left side of it, and jumped onto its back. Pain seared into the exposed wound on Hawkjaw's shoulder but he knew he could finish this fight if he hung on a bit longer. Sinking his front claws under the fox's neck, he raked twice with his back claws on its shoulders. Before the fox could react he jumped to the ground, awaiting the fox's mad thrashing. Once the fox was writhing in pain from its shoulder wounds, he crawled beneath it and raked its underbelly with his back claws, causing deep gashes to form. The fox fell to the ground, panting heavily, its insides slowly beginning to expose. Hawkjaw approached the fox quickly and bit as hard as he could in the fleshy part of its neck, hoping to end the battle quickly.

"Bluepool came back to camp with me, I, I don't know where she is." Robinwhisper meowed frantically, applying pressure to the cobwebs as her mother instructed. Blood was streaming all too quickly through the cobwebs, and Paintpaw was looking weaker as the moments wore on. "We need more cobweb!" she mewed to Flightpaw. "Paintpaw, just hang on please.. Please." Robinwhisper was whispering now, her pleas desperate. "Starclan... don't take her from us." Her meow was so low now only she had heard the last part.

Jasminefoot sighed shakily, ducking into the nursery and returning to the moss nest. She laid down in the moss, practically petrified. She looked up at Deerleg, wordless yet saying so much with her wide glassy eyes. In her whole lifetime she had never seen something so gruesome and violent. Was this a regular occurrence for clancats? Was she really capable of being surrounded by that? Her kits being surrounded by that? "This...violence. Does it... happen often?" she quivered, voice quiet like a mouse.

Skystar hurriedly limped over to where his deputy had the second fox pinned and at his mercy. He silently encouraged his deputy, his breathing ragged and heavy. His vision was blurry, and his paws felt weak. His muscles felt torn, but he felt weak of heart. Paintpaw's injuries were far worse... What am I, a kit? I'm Clan leader! Stop being so pitiful! he thought to himself. He tried his best to control his wobbling legs.

Dreamwave almost continued the questioning of Robinwhisper until she saw Bluepool, standing aside the warriors den, staring straight at her mother with an empty gaze. Dreamwave closed her mouth, and beckoned for Flightpaw to follow her to gather more cobwebs from the medicine den. Grabbing almost all that remained, she and Flightpaw returned to Paintpaw's side. "We might be able to stop it, if we use the rest of them," she meowed. "There's only so much we can do."

Momentarily, Deerleg was silent. He didn't know how to phrase his words without completely alarming the previous kittypet queen. "Well... it can, sometimes..." he started. "Paintpaw got hurt... because she was alone. It usually doesn't happen, but... our lives aren't always easy. Beetlewing brought her back here... because we look out for our clanmates. We're all family. Skystar and the rest are... out there now, probably fighting for their lives... and ours." He nodded to Jasminefoot's belly. "And theirs."

Hawkjaw hesitated at the throat of the fox. Killing wasn't his strong suit. Then Paintpaw's gurgling words came back into his memory and rage fueled his actions. He opened his mouth wide as possible and clamped his jaws with all the force he could muster around the jugular of the fox and held his jaws there until he felt the creature go limp. Weakly, he backed away from the fox, blood dripping from his muzzle. He stared sadly at Skystar, the breath catching in his lungs. His body felt ragged, the weight of one thousand different battles clouding his mind. A victory over the foxes meant little if Paintpaw would pay the price of them being there in the first place.
Robinwhisper gently pressed the new cobwebs into her apprentice's pelt. Her paws were covered in wet, sticky blood. "What more can we do? What else is there?" She asked Dreamwave, her soft voice cracking miserably. Paintpaw was her first apprentice and Robinwhisper loved her as if she were her own kit. A sadness of the deepest kind began to seep into her thoughts, and she couldn't help but begin to lose hope as Paintpaw's heartbeat felt more faint beneath her paws.

[Good night, shiba! I'll be going to bed here after this reply tbh lol. I'll pick up where I left off tomorrow, probably after my class ]
Dreamwave sighed, closing her eyes briefly. "Paintpaw will have to pull through on her own from here. We're not medicine cats, so unfortunately, our lack of knowledge is no help to her. If we can stop the bleeding here, she may have a fighting chance." She looked to the apprentice, who was covered in her own blood from ear to tail. She was still breathing, but barely. Dreamwave felt a glimmer of hope as she noticed the wound where she held her was slowly starting to clot, and less blood was seeping through her paws.

Beetlewing careened through the camp entrance, rolling over himself into the dirt like limp fresh-kill. Paintpaw fell and laid on the ground behind him, the ground smeared faintly with blood. Regaining his senses, Beetlewing, panting to catch his breath, looked around camp wide-eyed. "Paintpaw is...sseriously hurt..!" he wailed, legs shaking from exhaustion of the flight. "Someone... hhelp!" Robinwhisper, standing right next to the camp entrance, watched as Beetlewing tore into camp. She felt every nerve in her body go numb when she laid eyes on Paintpaw, and she stood frozen to the spot. A small, almost croak-like noise escaped her mouth and snapped her out of her daze. "Paintpaw!" She exclaimed, sprinting to stand beside her apprentice. Worry flooded her thoughts, the normally fluffy, calico she-cat had turned into a crimson, bloody mass. She placed her muzzle into Paintpaw's flank and felt a faint pulse, unsure of what to do next. (I have a question so where is Softlight, Quietsong and Smokefur? Would they not run into them?)

((OOPS lol))
Daisypaw hurried to her paws, and her moon of knowledge came rushing to her. βHorsetail and comfrey will help!β she said, and raced to the den. They were for more serious wounds, she knew, much more effective than marigold. She came back with horsetail in her jaws, and dropped them in front of the group of cats. βHelp me chew these up,β she said to no cat in particular, then turned back to Paintpaw, chewing up some of the horsetail. The cobwebs on her wounds were now soaked with blood. She began peeling them off and spat her first poultice into a deep wound. βIβll get more cobweb!β she said, and dashed off to the den again.

[ smokefur1 : We're assuming Beetlewing took a different route back to camp somehow; kinda hard to RP with 3 people when two are offline lol. To avoid any accidental RPing of people's cats that arent theirs. Softlight, Smokefur, and Quietsong are still in the territory, between the patrol and camp somewhere]

Dreamwave began chewing the herbs Daisypaw had collected from the den. "We just put it on her wounds?" she asked, her mouth still busily chewing. Though she was the most senior warrior at this time, her herbal knowledge was very minimal; she never had the intention of learning a lot about herbs, but at times like these, she wished she had.

Skystar gave his deputy a quick, curt nod. His sides were heaving, and his breathing was still very heavy. He felt dizzy, mainly from exhaustion over anything else. Surprised that the small group of cats took down not only one, but two foxes, had him stunned. Without saying anything, he took several measly steps back into the direction of camp. He wobbled occasionally, but was determined to make it back, and check on Paintpaw and the rest of his clanmates that had been left at camp.

Softlight shrugged, his nerves still getting the best of him. He looked to both Smokefur and Quietsong. Faintly, he could smell the traces of blood, but it felt like it was coming from all different directions. "We...we should probably go back to camp. I think I can smell blood coming from that way," he mewed. He tried to give a calm demeanor, but he even felt his own voice shake.

Daisypaw nodded when she came back, with a stick with cobwebs wrapped around one end. She put it down and looked at Dreamwave. βIβll take off the cobwebs, you put on the poultice, and Iβll wrap them back up with fresh cobwebs.β Before starting, though, she pulled out a few poppy seeds she had stuck in the cobwebs and put them by Paintpawβs mouth. βPlease eat these,β she said, her eyes pleading as she watched the uneven rise and fall of the she-catβs flank. Then she started removing the sticky, red cobwebs.

Hawkjaw noticed his leader walking on unsteady legs. The battle had been taxing on every cat, but had Skystar taken a toll on his body worse than the rest of the patrol? He's much older than the rest of us.. Hawkjaw reflected. This was the first time he had seen his noble leader show harsh signs after a battle. He could feel Skystar's determinated gaze fixed in the direction of the camp, but Hawkjaw worried for his physical wellbeing "Skystar..." he started, "maybe we should slow down a bit." He hated sounded soft as a kitty pet, but the pain in his shoulder was starting to get to him. The wound was beginning to become gooey and inflamed.

She stared down at Paintpaw's muzzle near the poppyseeds and hoped she had the strength to lap them up. The shock of the situation was starting to fade from her mind a bit, quickly being replaced by guilt. She looked up at Dreamwave and Daisypaw, "If i hadn't sent her out to hunt alone," she wailed, her eyes shutting tightly, "she'd not have gotten hurt. The foxes wouldn't have ever touched her."

Daisypaw looked up at Robinwhisper after finishing a wrapping. βNone of this is your fault!β she insisted, eyes narrowed. βThe fox would have attacked anyone that went out there alone. It just... happened to be her.β She flattened her ears for a second; did that even help? She was awful at reassuring. She began tearing off more soaked cobwebs and said, βBut I think sheβll be okay. I wish Quietsong and Whisperwing were here, though...β

[Robinwhisper has a knack of wallowing in any emotion she's a big baby]
Robinwhisper looked at the medicine cat apprentice, and shut her mouth quickly. How could she make anything about herself right now when Paintpaw was so hurt. She flattened her ears and looked down at her own blood-soaked paws and sighed. The only hope for Paintpaw now was to apply the medicine cat's strategies. It seemed as though some cuts were beginning to clot.
