Snowpaw awoke to morning sun shining into the apprentices den and glanced beside her to see Brackenpaw still there. He must have fallen asleep beside her as well. She held back a small purr and lay her head back down to pretend like she was still sleeping, thankfully all the other apprentices were asleep so if Brackenpaw happened to wake up before any of them, she might get to catch him thinking out loud without him knowing.

Eagletalon muttered something in his sleep before leaning againts Dovestar a little more.

Dovestar gently groomed his ears and head, unsure what he was dreaming about but hoping her actions would help him relax.

Brackenpaw felt some movement against him, waking him up. He lifted his head and glanced at Snowpaw, but the she-cat seemed to be sleeping. She must've shifted in her sleep or something. None of the other apprentices were awake either, and Brackenpaw sighed. "It's just so hard to talk to you," he murmured to Snowpaw's back.

Snowpaw heard his words and didn't move, hoping to hear more. While waiting, the apprentice wondered to herself why he thought she was so hard to talk to. She always tried to be kind to everyone, easygoing and friendly. Why did he struggle so much to talk to her than?

Once Brackenpaw began speaking, he couldn't stop. "It's not anything you're doing, it's all me. I just like you so much that it's almost impossible to get any words out!" he sighed, stretching his legs. "I just can't tell you how I feel." With that, he padded out of the den with his tail dragging behind him.

Snowpaw waited until she heard the branches of the apprentices den rustle and then lifted her head with a quiet sigh. "If only you knew I get the same way." She murmured.

Brackenpaw stepped into the light, his brown fur looking somewhat golden in the morning light. His jaws gaped in a yawn, tail flicking back and forth, as he sat close to the apprentice's den, licking his paw and swiping it over his ears.

Snowpaw waited a few moments before standing and following him out. She saw him sitting by the apprentices den and padded up to him, rubbing against Brackenpaw as she sat beside him.

Brackenpaw blinked at her in surprise. "D-did I, did I wake you?"

"I woke up when I felt you leave." She meowed. "Opened my eyes as you left the den." She wouldn't admit to having heard everything he said. She didn't want to make him nervous. "Thanks for staying by me through the night. It really helped with the storm."

Brackenpaw have her a nod in reply. A part deep down inside him wondered if she heard him tell her he liked her, but he pushed the thought away. Snowpaw wouldn't lie to him about something like that.

Snowpaw looked down, feeling immediate guilt over not telling him. She would have to deal with it if he was uncomfortable, but she could not lie to him. It just wasn't her. "Brackenpaw... I heard you." She murmured. "I was barely awake but I heard all you said."

Fern hissed at she felt the rain from the storm sink through her pelt, chilling her to the bone. At though it had died down, her little hiding place, the bush, did little to cover her from the rain. "Mousedung, and I just washed my coat," she hissed, shaking it out. If she didn't catch a cold, she'd be so surprised. Maybe Feather, I mean Featherpaw now, will help me with those silly herbs she was always going on about, she thought, sighing internally, thinking about having to go into the Clan's territory to find her sister.
Featherpaw had her tail between her legs as she slowly stepped out of the medicine cat den. That storm had given her a fright, leaving her alone and scared in her bed. Fern had always been there to help her get through those kinds of things, but now she wasn't. Slowly, she pushed herself to get some fresh air. The air smelled of the new rain, which was nice, it meant new life in the forest.

Firepaw exited the apprentices den and saw Featherpaw. He padded towards her, "hey Featherpaw." He meowed. "Were you okay alone in your den last night?" He asked, seeming to genuinely care.

Featherpaw jumped a little when she heard Firepaw. turning to him, she put on her best fake smile and nodded. "Yeah, of course! It was just a little storm anyway," she tried to say confidently, letting out a nervous laugh. She realized her tail was still in between her legs and relaxed it slowly. "How about you? Did you get wet at all? Are you feeling okay? I suspect some cats will come down with a cold after this," she rambled on.

Firepaw sat down, "I was soaked. It started pouring just as I got back from a patrol with Dovestar. You should check on her too. She got just as soaked as I did." He explained. "I feel okay right now though but I'll let you know if I feel sick."

Featherpaw nodded slowly, thinking about what she could do. "Okay thank you for letting me know Firepaw. Make sure you warm yourself up with a bath and try and get all the water out of your pelt," she meowed confidently now. Taking care of others was what she was good at. She knew she was a bit older than a lot of the apprentices but hopefully soon she would get her full name as a medicine cat apprentice. "If you need anymore help, or feel a cold coming on, please let me know so I can treat it as soon as possible. We don't want it turning into something worse." she smiled at him.

Firepaw nodded, "thanks Featherpaw." He meowed. The fiery apprentice then placed his nose on Featherpaw's shoulder. "I hope your sister will be willing to join the clan soon. I know you must miss her. Not sure what I would do if I didn't have Snowpaw here with me."

Featherpaw's eyes widened a little at the apprentice's touch and the mention of her sister. She cleared her throat and nodded. "I know she'll see the value in doing so. Fern is just too stubborn for her own good," she meowed softly. She appreciated deeply that others were hoping her sister would join, just as she was.

Firepaw nodded, "I'm sure the clan needs her more than she needs the clan." He mewed.

Featherpaw let out a little snort. "Oh most certainly," she giggled. "One time, Fern went face to face with a dog and your should've seen how fast the thing ran away when she ran her claws through it's nose. I almost felt bad for the poor thing," she chuckled.

Firepaw laughed. "She sounds like she'd be great in the clan." He purred.
(So I'm gonna have Dovestar get really sick because of the rain and lose a life to an early season case of greencough)

Dovestar purred and nuzzled him, "how'd I get so lucky." She licked his cheek. "And hello to you too my handsome mate."

(Sound's good! What's the medicine cat's name?)
Featherpaw purred too and nodded. "I wonder if she found shelter at all in the storm," she wondered, suddenly feeling nervous for his sister. She shook her head, Fern was strong, she could get through anything. "I'm going to check on Dovestar, do you know where I might find her Firepaw?" she asked.
Fern let out a little sneeze. Oh geez, that can't be good, she sighed. Getting up to stretch her stiff legs, she could feel that she was not doing the best. Great. And Featherpaw isn't here to help me, she thought coldly. Padding to the edge of Doveclan's territory, she decided that she'd sneak in to see her sister for a quick herb or two. No one would have to know she was even there, right? Crouching low, she slithered through the underbrush, keeping herself hidden from patrols and those who could possible see her.

(she'll start showing mild symptoms now, and I'd have to check. I forgot the name)
"Probably in her den." Firepaw meowed. "I haven't seen her come out yet."

Eagletalon chuckles a little before licking her cheek some more. "Time to face another day."
