Troutstar headed towards the camp exit, and thought silently for a moment before speaking. "I think Swiftclaw would be a good choice, but I haven't seen him around much. Rowanstorm too, even though he is hotheaded. I think if Redheart remained his deputy, she could balance out his ... Short comings. And vice cersa - Rowanstorm would he a loyal deputy to Redheart, as he has always been a loyal warrior to me, and would balance out the things she is overcautious about. And they will always be blunt with each other." Troutstar's pale blue eyes stared at the ground for a moment, then he looked back to Featherfall. "Of course, as more and more warriors begin to prove themselves, this could change. You could be the next deputy, too, Featherfall. I know the decision must come but I loathe to make it."

(Okay, sweet. Timeskip!)
"Okay, Vixenpaw, Fleetpaw." Redheart's patrol had finished their route with no accidents - or apprentice drownings. "We can practice hunting or battling - or, tree climbing, I suppose." The red tabby glanced at her smaller clanmates before flicking her tail. They had reached the very northern tip of the Meadow - since the area was open it was a good place to do battle training or even hunting, but she felt the decision of what they did was up to the small cats. "I don't usually keep up with apprentice training, as that is Troutstar's job, so I don't know where you are training-wise. It's up to you two to decide."

Rabbitswoop eyed the two apprentices as Ashstep wandered off, making sure they did not look for him. "What are you thinking strategy wise? he asked the two. Nettlepaw replied with a quick "We'll follow him and then surround him," but Doepaw took her time. "Why don't you follow him Nettlepaw, and try to get him close to a good tree? I could climb up and come down from in front of him, without crossing paths..."
"A good decision is never easy to make, as it shouldn't be. You have always been a good leader, and I know you will not fail us in this." She pondered his words a moment more and then continued on. "I know you wanted to hunt to get away, and I'm sorry if I've disturbed your peace with my constant worry. I do appreciate you speaking with me about it though."

Oh, a training session! Daisyeyes perked up at the distinct sound of her clanmates in the distance, snapping out of her self-imposed reverie. She caught snippets of their conversation here and there, peering out at the group through the underbrush. She watched the apprentices with a fondness, nostalgia bringing a small smile to her face. She remembered when she was that age, young and spry and ready to take on anything. If there was one good thing about her age, though, it was the fact she didn't have to spar anymore. All the other apprentices seemed to love it, but she was always a bit too sluggish to dodge her clanmate's swipes, a bit too hesitant on the attack. She hated participating in training sessions, sure, but she had no qualms watching. "Do you mind an extra pair of eyes?" Stepping out from the undergrowth, she flashed a sheepish grin, hoping they wouldn't shoo her off. She could use the company, after all. It was lonely in the nursery, sometimes.
Much like his daughter, Stoneclaw seemed prone to stumbling upon his clanmates as they roamed about the territory. Or rather, they seemed prone to stumbling onto him. Already on the edge of Founder's Field, Stoneclaw was curled up in a particularly nice patch of sunlight. It was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of clan life, and he'd already finished his duties for the day. Dozing off, he looked the perfect image of peacefulness, until a loud snore erupted from his sleeping form.

Vixenpaw glanced over at Fleetpaw, shuffling her paws. She twitched her whiskers in amusement. It looks like they both have to face their fears today, knowing his hatred for heights. "What's tree climbing for?" He asked, curiously, tilting his head. Vixenpaw sat down to watch her clanmate, as he waited diligently for a response.

"No, it's quite alright." The two cats had entered the forest now. "This decision forces itself to be thought about. I have put if off for too long." Troutstar led the way through the trees and underbrush - avoiding things he would have to jump or cross with effort. "Featherfall, who do you think should be deputy?"
"Tree climbing is used for catching birds and squirrels, but is also used in battle." Redheart informed the two cats. She adored being able to talk about things she was knowledgeable about. "You can climb trees and drop down on enemies from above - or climb up them to escape. Especially from wolverines and skunks. Porcupines can climb trees; though they are a little slow." The she-cat blinked. "Would you like to try it?"

Ashstep made sure to be as quiet as possible as he snuck off, keeping low to the ground and keeping downwind to try and keep the two apprentices off his scent. Finding a nice piece of long grass to hide himself in, Ashstep stayed low, stomach brushing against the ground and tail low as he kept his ears pricked. He heard the arrival of Daisyeyes, but didn't reveal himself just yet. It was up to the apprentices to try and find him without him finding them first.

Featherfall was silent for a moment. She had not really thought it through on her own, at least not to a point where she felt entirely comfortable sharing her opinions, but he had asked, and she was honored that he sought her opinion on the matter. "I think that you've thought of some wonderful options. Even though I do not know the cats well, your reasoning behind choosing them is good. Whilst I have not put enough thought into the individuals to make a thorough decision, I do know that whomever you choose will have to be frank, and yet not overly demanding. Redheart is a good cat, loyal, honest, and willing to do everything for us all, but she is sharp edged and often cool, which can cause conflict. She needs a balancing force."

Rabbitswoop watched the two apprentices, impressed with Doepaws thoroughness. "Good thinking both of you, now decide and hurry, I think you've given Ashstep enough of a lead by now."
The apprentices faced each other and, though Nettlepaw thought her idea was just fine thank you, awknowledged the fact that Doepaw had voiced her opinion and decided to go along with it anyway. "Alright, you head up and I'll head out. Keep an eye on where I am." And with that one apprentice attempted to smell the way to Ashstep as the other scrambled up an oak.

Raggedstrike turned and just caught the tails of Troutstar and Featherfall leaving the camp. Deciding that he would be up for whatever they were doing, he ran after them. "Hey!" He meowed, catching up to the pair. "I hope i'm not interrupting anything, but do you mind if I join you?" he asked, breathing slightly heavy from his running.

Troutstar nodded in agreement. "You are correct in that. I cannot interfere in the clan's decision once I join Starclan - at least, not directly. A levelheaded partner deputy would balance out her personality for the leader. But who will that be?" Troutstar posed the last phrase as a question, yet not one that either cats could answer. At any rate, he realized, they had reached Founder's Field. His ears pricked for noises. "We're here, Featherfall. Time to hunt."
Edit:
Troutstar turned to their clanmate catching up to them. "Of course, Raggedstrike." The gray tabby bowed his head to the other tom. "We're hunting for our breakfast here. No patrol rules."

Vixenpaw stepped forward. The trees nearby had plenty of bark to get a grip, but you need to have a lot of strength to carry yourself. She jumped up, extending her claws into the bark of the tree. It was uncomfortable, almost painful, but she bit through it, she wasn't slow, reaching her paw higher, she began to climb, ignoring the feeling. Upon coming to the next branch she leveled with it before moving on to it, proving her inexperience. She laid down on the tree branch, having achieved her personal goal, she was pleased with herself. However, she dimly acknowledged she need to improve her climbing, as she'd never catch prey with the way she climbs. Her front paws hanged over the edge of the branch as did her tail, looking down at the deputy and the white tom.

Ashstep was feeling pretty confident in himself. He heard Rabbitswoop let them go and his heart rate slightly increased as he remained hidden in the longer grass. The benefit of being downwind to the two she-casts was that it would it incredibly hard for them to smell him, whereas he could small them just fine. Slightly opening his jaw, he scented the air, head turning towards the scent of Nettlepaw, however he couldn't quite tell where Doepaw had gotten herself off to. Bit for now the tom waited in position, tail twitching slightly as his ears and eyes remained on the constant swivel.

"Well.... You, uh, made it, Vixenpaw." Redheart stated bluntly. "When your head comes level to the branch, reach up with your paws and pull yourself over. As for climbing up, it will take practice to stretch your claws and build their strength to grip deep into the bark. Stretch your paws wide until they hurt; birds do this too, but they are lighter. You need to pull your body weight up the tree." The deputy turned to the remaining apprentice, saying, "Fleetpaw, now you try, on the same tree."

Featherfall nodded at their joining clan mate and then set herself about finding a good place to hunt in the field. "Any goals for the hunt?" She asked lightheartedly.
Nettlepaw found the scent a bit harder to track then normal, but that let her know she should be moving into the wind and not out of it. She knew she was getting closer as his scent grew stronger.
Doepaw was keeping an eye on the movement of her friend, and when Nettlepaw began lashing her tail she moved forward a bit, looking for the tom amongst the grasses. She just needed to get past him. Finally she spotted him and moved a bit passed, waiting for Nettlepaw to catch up.

Raggedstrike nodded his thanks with a small grin. He was starting to get hungry, as although he'd caught his fair share of prey, he hadn't eaten yet. He decided he'd have something small after the hunt, and then return to his duties. His darker fur stuck out in the field of flowers and grass, but the tom had enough experience on how to still hunt besides being very visible to his prey. Sniffing the air, followed by opening his mouth to taste the air, he scented for prey.

Flintpaws adrenaline levels began to increase, and like anyone experiencing facing their fear, he wanted it done and over with. He raced up the tree, pulling up his body weight, primary with his front paws. Vixenpaw moved foward, getting out of the toms way, her tail flickering. The height wasn't enough to harm her permanently, but she still wasn't ready to fall off. He placed his front paw on the branch and heaved himself up on the branch. He sat down rigorously, not meeting Vixenspaw eyes. He could feel his heart pounding and his breathing was quicker.

Troutstar shrugged. "Not unless you want to compete with Raggedstrike," he joked. "We'll meet back here with our prey." Then, the leader hobbled into the tall grass. Being the biggest and tallest of cats on the clan, his ears would stick out of the grass if he stood at full height. Because he was hunting, though, he was crouched as low to the ground as his achy joints allowed, so he was only a light shadow moving in the grass.
(Stoneclaw is sleeping somewhere in the field, our cats should totally run into him.)
edit: As Redheart watched Fleetpaw swarm up the tree, she secretly praised him for using his front claws the most. "Now, try moving around the tree. Claw your way sideways - there is bigger tree branch just a tail-length away." She instructed. "If you fall, try to grab the bark, but don't ruin your claws - dig your front claws in, not your back ones." The deputy then moved closer to the base of the tree and around the side that the apprentices were instructed to navigate to.

Ashstep could scent Nettlepaw get closer, not to mention she was not exactly keeping the noise levels down. He stayed where he was a for a moment longer, but spotting movement just up in the grass head he started to move, softly backing away again and taking up another position under the cover of a bush. He still had no idea where Doepaw was, bu he didn't want to raise himself up and out of cover just to find the other apprentice.

Featherfall laughed quietly as not to scare the prey. "Sounds good." She said as she headed off into the brush, scenting for prey of her own. She was startled however, when she heard the eruption of a noise from the field rather close to her, that sounded a bit like snoring.
Doepaw dropped from the tree finally as Ashstep began moving backwords, and crept forward slowly and quietly. She was only a few paces behind him now, and if he turned or backed up anymore would run into her. Nettlepaw was done waiting, and glancing up in the trees realized that now it was time to leap. And she did, throwing her body forward and towards the tom with all her might and a loud yowl.

Vixenpaw hopped around the tom, who hadn't relaxed yet. She noted the branches distance. It was slightly. She began climbing sideays. Halfway there, her back paw slipped, reflexes kicking in, her back leg jerked her paw back up and on the tree. The route wasn't very long and when she was close enough, she hopped on to the branch, using her back legs to move her forward. She turned around, but she couldn't see Flintpaw.
Flintpaw heard he sound of scraping bark, and his breathing levels increased. He heard and felt Vixenpaw landing on the branch. Going sideays meant he couldn't do it quickly. He took a deep breath, his pupils dilated into slits by now. He placed his front paws on the tree on the side, a little higher than they needed to be. He then extended his claws into tree, by instinct, he used his front rights and back right paws as anchors, so to not let them slip. He saw the missing bark where Vixenpaw had slipped and had a small extra dose of fear pumped into him. He moved more slowly than Vixenpaw, full of caution. Finding himself higher than the branch he hopped down onto it.

Ashpaw could scent that Nettlepaw was still coming, but there was still no sign of Doepaw. For now he just forgot the other apprentice as Nettlepaw decided to do a rather stilly thing and leap at him with a yowl. It was the yowl which allowed him enough tome to deftly hop out of the way, head shaking a little. "Was that yowl really necessary? You gave away you position. You might have had me had you not been so dramatic."

Ashstep was so focused on Nettlepaw that he had completely forgotten that he still didn't know where Doepaw was... well he didn't until she landed on from him behind. "Oof!" as soon as he felt the apprentice on top of him, Ashstep dropped to the ground, rolling over gently to make sure he didn't squash Doepaw while he shook her off, standing up again and shaking his long fur off. "Not bad. Not bad at all."

(hey karma!! you doing alright?? ;o a few new people joined, and Fallen Stars had to leave because she was too busy ;; Troutstar is hunting w/ Raggedstrike and Featherfall, and Ashstep is training with Rabbitswoop, Doepaw, and Nettlepaw, and daisyeyes is watching them ^^ Redheart's patrol time skipped to their training session too, Deadleaf can be with em if you want her too!)
Troutstar scented the air. At least this part of his body wasn't failing him - along with the smell of his clanmates, he could detect quail, rabbit, and mouse. There was the somewhat faint scent of squirrel, too, but he wasn't interested in that. The leader singled out the scent of a nearby mouse and began to crawl after it.My joints hurt at evrry step... I'll need poppy seeds after this. He reflected that he probably wouldn't be chasing any rabbits for the remainder of his life, and it saddened him.
"Good job, Vixenpaw." Redheart called up. "Fleetpaw, do you know what you did wrong with hopping down on that branch?"
