Virgil looked around, took a shaky breath, then walked to the door, knocking.

There was no answer, but the door was unlocked.
Roman let out another muffled cry as searing pain rushed over his jawline.

Virgil frowned. He knew Roman was home. Panic shot through him, as he shoved the door open, pulling out his butterfly knife. He spotted Roman and growled, “Let him go.”

"Who says I should?" the voice asked, glancing at Virgil.
Roman's eyes met Virgil's, and they were telling him to run.

Roman kicked back with a boot, and the masked murderer doubled over in pain, losing his grip on the detective. Roman ran for the door, grabbing Virgil' hand and dragging him along as he ran.

Virgil stumbled as he was dragged out of the house. He managed to catch his feet and run behind Roman.

Roman was starting to actually panic. He tried to pick up speed, but it only became his downfall, as he tripped.

Virgil reacted instantly, leaning back as Roman fell forward and keeping the other man on his feet. He ducked to the side, into a dark alley, and pulled Roman with him.

Roman's breathing was shallow and fast, and his eyes were wide enough that you could see the panic and exhaustion filling them. He was trembling sightly.

Virgil let out a soft sigh, tucking his knife back into his pocket and kneeling in front of the detective. He gently took the man’s hand and lifted in to his own chest. “Alright, I need you to breath with me.” He said, looking into Roman’s eyes and taking a deep breath, “Match my breathing? Okay? You’re okay... I’ve got you.”

Roman closed his eyes and tried to match Virgil's breathing. His heart was still pounding uncontrollably.

Roman's jaw looked extremely messed up. He couldn't speak. Like, at all. He kept his eyes closed, but tried to support some of his own weight.

Virgil walked into the station, surrendering Roman when medics ran over. He watched them with sad eyes.
